A call to action

With SCR and all of its hype behind us, it’s time to discuss a more serious subject: SOPA and PIPA. I don’t like to discuss politics on the site but this legislation, if passed, will adversely affect both Dream Cancel and the fighting game community at large.

In the grand scheme of things, the passage of either of these proposed amendments would result in streaming video games, posting matches or tutorial videos being considered illegal. The entire concept of fair usage in these cases would be null and void. Furthermore, any site which has links to posted videos, whether done by the owners, administrators or users, would be considered a rogue site and would be shut down by the Department of Homeland Security. In other words, every fighting game community site would be shut down and deemed illegal.

I’ve been active in contacting my representatives on this matter and urging them to not support either act. Here are some links and videos which do a better job than I can at explaining the amendments and their effects as well as provide you with the needed information to act, if you choose to.
