Don't have the game yet and heard some reports on the day one patch for it. For anyone who's played the demo and downloaded/bought the full version with the patch, is it actually faster like some have been saying?

So I just made my first playthrough of story mode. Unfortunately it's just like the arcade mode of the old games except with the occasional hi res movie scene. It's not terrible, but anyone hoping for more will be disappointed. I need more playthroughs with different teams, but I don't see it getting much better. Great game otherwise.

Don't have the game yet and heard some reports on the day one patch for it. For anyone who's played the demo and downloaded/bought the full version with the patch, is it actually faster like some have been saying?

I don't know about it being faster, but it is definitely different. Some of the combos I was using with Kyo in the demo don't work anymore which kind of pisses me off. Thankfully, there are so many awesome characters to choose from.

Yeah the story mode is pretty ho him but the conversations are nice, and Antonov is such a bro.

Mian is badass like hot damn. Idk how good she is but she is stylish.

The conversations are fun, but so far I have only gotten 1 per playthrough. As for edit teams in story go, maybe they felt beating story 16 times was enough?

Well, not just lore but also how he plays. I'm sure people have already unlocked and played him, but he's the only one without a character board. Hell, people here have yet to mention his mere name. I think we're all being cautious in regards to the final boss.

Edit: My online experience has been unpleasant. Well, my ISP is ass to Comcast Xfinity has dropped in quality over the past several months.

I meant to ask, how's the online? Mostly I've heard positive things on Twitter, but few bad experiences also. Reviews say it's good, even great, so what's the truth?

Party mode seems to have better online quality than rank and free mode.  I had one good online connection that had random slight slowdown after 6 matches. When it's good, it's good. One problem is that it's hard to figure out the connection when the bars are incorrect.

I did the entire trial mode in 2 sittings. I really wish they made them challenging. The only one that gave me troubles was Angel.

If it helps newcomers get a better feel instead of feeling overwhelmed like some felt for XIII trials, I can accept that.

i think the online is good depending on how good your connection is thou.
I fixed my connection by forwarding my ports on my router/modem (wired of course) and gave a static ip address to my ps4 which really showed a huge difference in my lobbies. With all my progress, am still a man looking for a perfect connection so i upgraded from 50/50mbps to 75/75mbps  :)

SNK is aware of the netcode issues in Ranked and Free Match, looking into a patch for it.

I noticed something interesting while fiddling with Yuri today. She can combo s.B s.A d.B d.C srk.C. You can obviously do different things with the ending, for example command grab wich actually does connect aswell. I haven't found any similar combos for other characters yet, but it is a possibility.

There's a few things about him that I can spoil, although all I'll say is try playing him with certain teams and look at certain endings and certain win quotes.

Not new the fighting games but still a bit new to KOF. My question is, where's the frame data? when I'm jumping in trying to poke my opponent I'm having difficulty stopping players from mashing crouching light kicks. I'm trying things short hops to keep the pressure, but I'm wondering wheres the frame data so I can work on creating frame traps?

As far as i know there is none, it took maybe two years or so for decent framedata to appear for 13 so you may have to wait.

Jump ins don't generally have as much stun as they do in sf so you have to hit relatively late during your jumps in most kofs. It feels different from character to character in 14 but for alot of characters it's more lenient than in 13 actually.

Your light normals will generally range from 0 to +2 on block so try to find lights that link into heavies, they'll obviously be good frametraps and if you can't find any then try out what works with "1 guard jump" in training mode.

In 13 almost all normals had 2 frames of hitstun more than blockstun. It feels like it's going to hold up in 14 aswell.

You can use the 1 Guard Jump option to see who recovers first to get an estimate on the frame data.

Is the region setting in your online profile forcibly tied to your PSN account region? My main PSN account is Japanese, my region is reported as Japanese in my in-game online profile and there's seemingly no way to change it.

Okay, I finally got the game yesterday. Seems fun, timings are less strict than in XIII, but still kinda strict. Seems responsive, fun to play on arcade stick, although I still suck with it.

If I have to form my team based on first three character I managed to trials, it would be Zarina, Love Heart and Xanadu.

Try to time you jumping attack once the character starts to descend from the jump. The issue with this is you will lose air - to - air. So you have to take a risk. That's one thing that makes KOF so fun, but tough at the same time

So I think most of us knew that there are character specific combos against the big bodies and the small characters. But turns out there seems to be a 4th class.
It seems that the shorter characters have marginally smaller hitboxes.
It isn't as big a difference as the small characters, but they affect some characters, such as Meitenkun.
These characters include
Mian
Meitenkun
Gang-Il
Nakoruru
MuiMui
Athena
Kensou
Yuri
So please keep this in mind for testing.

But besides that, this patch was great and well needed. I didn't play any of the top tiers, so everyone I play got just a touch better, and characters I played against got a touch worse. Feels good

I wasn't tier whoring so it has been all buffs for me.

Also super glad that they adjusted Sylvie and Nelson so well, can't wait to put more time into them now.

King nerf was kinda sad, and I don't know why they nerfed Yuri, Ralf, Maxima and Antonov.

Ralf got a pretty big buff, he can do 70% damage for 2 bars now anywhere on the screen.

The thing about Yuri is that the use and range on her normals sort of undermined Ryo. He is the one who should have range, not her. She after all does have more tools in the neutral to work with than him.

Overall I could see her becoming an issue if she was left as is while most other problem characters were getting fixed.

How much did they change the inputs?  I'm missing combos I've always gotten earlier.  I had to adjust how I do them to make sure they always connect.  Using the Dpad and Analog stick to do the two half circles or Vice's air super.

I don't know if it was too drastic but the buffer window was reduced. My guess is you are entering them correctly just maybe a bit too slow for it to register in time.

I guess nobody cares KOF XIV is getting an arcade port  :(

I care, it's just that I wasn't active here at DC at the time. Even though it would be a miracle if my country -Italy- saw a single KOFXIV cabinet installed xD An arcade version of this game means to me that SNK cares about it enough to do all they can to cater to the potential Japanese player base for this title.

I just hope SNK adds a manual region setting for your player profile in their next patch, because I only play on my Japanese account and I don't wanna hijack my KOFXIV online activity to my Italian account just to get my region displayed correctly -sometimes I search lobbies and I see room titles like "people from X country/continent only", which is absolutely understandable for the sake of an enjoyable room. SNK is no stranger to adding or modifying options in this game, so it looks like a reasonable change to me...unless I'm the only KOFXIV player in the world playing with a foreign PSN account xD

SNK at PSX? Guess it's to promote the KOFXIV World Championship and to announce a solid release date for the PS4 Garou port.

Oh, so there's more to SNK's presence at PSX than I had guessed. While the additional visual effects won't save KOFXIV from being deemed as "ugly as shit" by the masses, I'm honestly happy SNK cares for their latest creation to the point they're tweaking its graphics months after its release. I'd love if character models looked the same as in pre-fight dialogues in actual matches, but I guess the team isn't experienced enough to achieve it and keep the game running at 60fps -characters looking better during dialogues may be just a wrong impression on my side, but there has to be some difference since dialogues move at 30fps.

Besides, I bet version 1.10 will bring more tweaks to the game engine and specific characters. Between the last stage of their rebranding and the perspective of more changes to KOFXIV, I couldn't be any happier than this as a SNK fan.

Random KOF14 demo 2 impressions, copy/pasted from a post I've just written at MMCafe:

-the only things I don't like are that Kyo's face looks like he was Ukyo's present time reincarnation -that is, he has TBC- and Shun'ei's demonic hands aren't translucent anymore. Why I had never ranted about Kyo's face is a mystery to myself since we saw 1.10 screens of him countless times

-everything else went for the better. Character models have a nice Irem/KOF94 feel to them (to the extent 3D stuff can), and some specials/supers were made slightly flashier -Terry's HP Burn Knuckle leaves some energy sparks in its starting point and Kyo engulfs himself in flames while charging his EX Orochinagi, which is easily my favorite improvement.

-I didn't make a back to back comparison but I'm pretty sure the training stage got its color changed from that weird yellowish hue to a silver-like grey which I like a lot better. No changes in the other stages.

It seems in the new demo, when selecting random, chars change after every match. It´s a tiny change, but one that makes playing story mode (yes, there´s people that sometimes play story mode) more fun, so I´m glad they did it.

Man, I really was hoping they would just announce everyone at once. There really is no need to drag this shit out over several weeks.

I'm honestly surprised at the lack of speculation on who the others might be so I guess I'll put my two cents in. My guesses are assuming that 1) these reveals are going in order from left to right, and 2) all these characters are returning characters, not new or previously not playable in the KOF series.

So for the next reveal I'm thinking Blue Mary is most likely. This silhouette definitely looks like a short haired female and the lumps on the shoulders could be the collar of her jacket. The only thing that has me worried is the one leg we can clearly see doesn't seem to be baggy enough to be her pants. Also, Mary is the single character I want in the game most and that is reason enough for me to be wrong about this despite the fact that I can't think of a single character that is more likely for this spot.

The next spot I don't have a good guess except that I doubt it's Vanessa or any other female character. There just isn't enough of an outline on this one that is clear enough to make an educated guess. But if we have Whip for sure, and I'm right about Mary, then I sincerely doubt there will be any more female characters.

The final spot has to be Yamazaki. Sure I can try to stretch my imagination and say it's Yashiro or even a buffed up Shen Woo, but that would just be trying to deny the obvious.

So guys, you think I'm wrong or right?

I'd like to assume the standing figure is Rock. I'd imagine it'd be 2 female and 2 male characters for symmetry's sake. It's a real toss up for that 4th character. There is nothing to work with.

And I agree they should've revealed everyone at once. It's bad enough SFV is doing this; KOF doesn't need to do this

Well I can't outright exclude Rock as a possibility, unless it's a redesign, I don't think he fits that standing up silhouette. There is too much around the shoulder area for it to be his jacket. I also don't think that DLC is how SNK would want to bring him into the KOF franchise if I'm to believe interviews that I have read. In fact Yasuyuki Oda said:

 "I don't know why he's been absent for so many titles, but I remember that right after Garou: Mark of the Wolves came out and he got popular, the general feeling was "It'd be a shame to waste his inclusion in KoF right off the bat, so let's keep him out of this next one, at least.""

Based just on that I would say Rock is a no unless they are actually going through with a Garou 2 and including him in this game to build the hype. But I honestly would prefer someone else to be in the game because we already have Terry and Geese and Rock is just a mashup (a good one!) of the two.

Even though I do not always cry over a character not being in a game, when I do, I prefer to cry for Blue Mary.

Atlus USA's Twitter says it's available April 5. That's four weeks from now.

I think all the DLC characters will be available on that date and they'll reveal them weekly leading up to that date. I mean, they did weekly team reveals leading up to the release of the game.

If it's true then that'll take out some of the sting of spaced out reveals.

Uhmmm...I was thinking SNK's plan was to reveal each character in the beginning of a month and launching him/her a month later, but maybe revealing them all in March and launching them all at once on April 5th makes more sense.

As for who they are, I think there are enough legs in the group to be almost sure 4 characters will be added, and one of these legs makes me think about Vanessa's standing winpose with her hands behind her head. I think the other 2 characters are Mary and Yamazaki.

I wasn't hoping for Whip because I thought the KOF14 team wasn't skilled enough to translate Whip's weapon to 3D graphics at the moment, but they've apparently studied 3D modeling enough -I often see them talking about or retweeting 3D modeling stuff on Twitter- to feel confident to make Whip right away.

So the other night I dusted off my PS2, unearthed my Swap Magic, and popped in KOF 02 UM to familiarize myself with Whip and Yamazaki. Sadly, I gave neither of these two a fair shake back in the day. Can't really blame me though. With as many characters this franchise has, it's a bit overwhelming to try to learn everyone. With that being said, I'm a bit more excited about these 2 characters coming to the game.

All of that depends on many things; how safe or unsafe it is on block or on whiff, how large hitbox is (and if Whip has her hurtbox extended) & how fast it can hit the opponent. Her f+A in past games wasn't very good because it was very slow & you can just roll past the whips (normal & Guard Cancel) or you can just super her with any DM that can reach her. If ppl use it online and its not effective at all, then it will just open them up for punishment.

I hope players online will quickly learn that her f+A wont be used for cheap wins especially if they will get punished hard for it.

I'm getting less and less convinced that Mary will be one of these characters after looking at the feet a bit more. Mary always has her pants tucked into her boots and that is clearly not the case in these silhouettes. It sucks when your favorite character hasn't made an appearance in your favorite fighting game series for over 10 years (KOF XI was over 11 years ago if you can believe it).

Edit: So Rock was just leaked. Not what I was hoping for, but he will hopefully get more people playing the game. At least it's not Shingo or Bao  (like he had a legit chance anyway). Honestly, I hope this is just one of several sets of DLC characters.

Despite not getting the only character I really wanted, I'm still really excited for April 5. New characters, new stages, and some balance changes! I hope everyone will be playing this next Wednesday, and I hope this is only the first of several such updates. I know I'm being greedy, but this game feels so good to play and there are still so many great characters that deserve a chance with it.

I'm not saying this game should last as long as SF4 (that's way too long), but it would be nice if this game regularly got new content until the next game came out. We had KOF13 for 5 years and all the updates for the game were early on, then nothing for the rest of the game's lifespan. Besides, I like the odds of Blue Mary making it into the next DLC rather than to have to contend for a spot in the next game. Hell, at this point she is probably the most popular character, and definitely most popular female character, that isn't in the game yet.

I'm seeing a lot of personal tier lists on twitter. One thing that strikes my attention is that Vanessa is consistently lower than most in the competitive list. Any reason for this?

A lot of players find her a bit difficult to play with. Her normals and neutral game is rather weak while her combo damage and stun are strong.

Now that KoF XIV has been out on PC for almost a week, has there been notice of anyone finding game and/or character breaking glitches? I know SNK didn't test the game at launch, as evidenced by the throw tech glitches for Antonov and Verse. SNK has also rolled out several patches with game breaking glitches, such as 1.10 breaking netplay in the PS4 version for most of January.

Also, is the netcode terrible like the PS4 version?

Hard mode in this game is brutal with all those perfect DC and SC move combos of the AI!

Took me 40 minutes to beat only the first round (AOF team seemed invincible so I changed the opponent after countless tries). In the second round I quit after losing due to wasting so much time and energy. In that time frame I can finish KOF98 on hard. This hasnt happened in any other fighting game.
Seems KOF beginners are on a whole other level.
