Title: NYC: SNK
Post by: booty clapper on July 30, 2010, 11:38:30 PM
We already have a number of player list on the other subforums but i'll start another one if we do have a large amount of ppl from NYC.

I can host at my apt in brooklyn. Anakron stops by here and there and i do get a number of players that come over but i'd like to keep it more SNK oriented if it's possible.

I'll reserve the other two post just in case.

Right now I'm studying and getting ready for a possible government job so time is strict right now for me. But I would see if it's possible to make some time to get some games in. What part of Brooklyn?

Never been there but then again, I never have any reason to go to Brooklyn. Just did a Google Maps search and I'm only under an hour driving from Park Slope. What trains go around your area?
Title: Re: NYC: SNK

R train stops a block from my apartment. Or the N and a number of other trains to Atlantic Ave/Pacific St. Which is about 12 or so blocks from me.

I play pretty much anything SNK. I'm definitely down for casuals in NYC.

I played MOTW, KOF98/2K2/XI, Real Bout Fatal Fury 2, Last Blade 2, Samurai Shodown, etc. Haven't played much of KOF13 at NL.

I'd imagine it would be hard to play considering people have said the machine is dead when it comes to players.

Well, I'm going to try to head out to Next Level for the first time this Friday but I don't like the fact that I have to pay an hourly fee on top of feeding the machines to play. Sorta makes no sense to me but I'll play 13 with anyone who is there.

Also don't know if I should bring my stick cause I have no idea if on Friday night any setups will be free to play any other KOFs. Not to mention that I'd imagine Next Level is pretty much nothing but SF4 and MvC3 on weekends.

And not that I'm bitching or anything, but I'll try my best to play with the Japanese setup used in the cabinet. Then again, I've been so busy the last few months that I haven't played any video games and I'm just trying to see if I can get back into them.

So if TNL the best place in NYC to host a KOF event?
Title: Re: NYC: SNK
Post by: Anakron on June 17, 2011, 09:15:43 PM
Definitely. I don't think there's any better place to hold a fighting game tournament in NYC since hotel ballrooms are expensive and TNL already has a bunch of setups. Their prices are great too.

Post by: Cibernetico on July 02, 2011, 08:22:19 AM
Just got back from The Next Level a while ago. Got there a late night but the place is still pretty cool. Got a few games in with some guy that seemed to have quite a few beers before he sat down to play but all was good. Got beat by some guy who I think played in the CvS2 tournament they were holding.

and I've said it before and I'll say it again, how people could play well on those super sensitive controllers just baffles me. Some attacks were coming out for my characters when I just barely grazed the top of the buttons and it was seriously pissing me off. also, not to mention that the buttons just feel too damn small. But oh well, if it means playing 13 with that setup for now until console release, so be it.

As for The Next Level, I don't know when I'll be there next, but I will say that for 3 hours and only having to pay $8, I'll see if I can try to make it out there more often.

First I have to said what's up my fellow New Yorkers, when I heard that CTF went down I die. I play pretty much anything SNK, and one of my joy in life was to walked into CTF... and play some KOF.

I will definitely check out The Next Level... one of these days. I'm down for casual games and tournaments in NYC....
ahhhh also if any of you are planning any evens and need help, let me know I try to help in anyway I can.

Guys, I'm glad I found ya!

Anyways I'm Meanest Rage from Kick-Punch-Block, a team whose purpose is to serve and help the fighting game community locally and eventually globally. Since we are based in NYC there was no need to make a new thread and I will just post here.

Anyways, I have access to a venue in Manhattan where my team would like to use to create a sort of  weekly ranbats type system for kof xiii. I'd like to make a test run in December if I get enough hits here and from there make a Ranbat season starting in January and lasting a few months ending with a Finale tournament also paying out the top three players of the entire season aside from the winners of every ranbat tourney each week. In addition, every month up to and including the finale tourney, offer double ranking points and pot bonuses as well. We're looking at a $5/$5 pot/venue for weekly events fee and $10/10 for the monthly tournaments. The Finale would be a little more but definitely worth it if we have continual attendance.

Please let us know how the local community would feel about this by replying here or hitting us up at info@kick-punch-block.com and please check out our home & facebook pages over at www.k-p-b.com (http://www.k-p-b.com) & facebook.com/kickpunchblock when you can. Thanks in advance for you time & input!

@meanestrage

I used to play at Neo-Crash in the Bronx before it close in early 2002, in was a small arcade, but surprisingly high level of play... So high that every-time I went to Chinatown Fair, I would just kill everybody. I miss the place very much, specially because it was very close to my home. I'm down with any type of events and if you guys need help... I'm a special effects editor/filmmaker, I haven't try Streams, (I'm more of the Short film, Documentary type,) but I have a hd professional camcorder, that I use for my shots.

It you still at that building, We're not that far from each other (I live by 196st. and Jerome Ave.)... I saw a picture at the Kick-Punch-Block page, and I did recognize some guys like Rodney (I could have the name wrong) the big black guy in the right. People will call me Poppy for my love for Galford

If anyone lives in the Valley Stream area, there's this shop called "Gamers Edge" which usually has Casuals every Thursday night called "Valley Stream Monsters". The stream is mostly MK related, but you are allowed to bring your own setup and play whatever fighting game you want. If anything, I'm more than willing to bring my setup this Thursday. in hopes to get others interested in KOF.

LOL wow it's so cool to hear that there are players here who attended Neo Crash when it was still around. My god I loved that damn place and my heart sunk when I went there and it no longer was there.

But anyways, I'm from Yonkers, NY and I'm not that far away from you at all ChipyMax. Hell, I usually always drop off some of my co workers in the mornings. We should seriously consider getting together and playing some games.

As for the gatherings, I'm all for anything. Problem is that I mainly work overnights and right now my only days off are Tuesday and Thursday nights. Yeah it sucks hard but what can ya do you know?

But I'll be keeping an eye out on this thread if anything comes up. And if anyone is willing to meet up on a consistent basis during Thursday and Tuesday nights at either Next Level or The Gamers Edge, I'm all for it.

I just had a friday night session at my place on the 23rd and it turned out to be a success (although it was an everything session, not just KOF.)
But I'm off Sundays and Mondays, and am not opposed to playing or hosting after I get outta work (which is after 11pm Tues-Saturday.)

Yea we should definitely set up a meetup and get some games going. I think it would be a cool idea to meet up at nextlevel however idk if they have enough setups. If someone knows how many setups they have of kof let me know. I think this would be better because that way we can be there for a much longer time and get some games going. Hopefully spark interest for some other players there.

Awesome, im loving ppl from manhattan.
Ok two things, now im jus putting this out there. But since I can host (and unfortunately work Tues-Sat closing shifts at Starbucks x_x)...how do people feel abot Friday or Saturday late night?
I could invite other KOF/FG players that would definitely come so we can jus have like a big late night session that will end until god knows when.

I'm off all Sundays. Is anyone willing to start some ranbats in Brooklyn at Next Level? I figure maybe sometimes in the afternoons and having it end at 9-10PM just so people can get home at a reasonable time. Is anyone down for this idea?

I would love ranbats but Sunday's are very bad for me. Best days are Friday or sat for me usually

And that would be the problem for me since I work overnights on those days. Right now, I'm usually off Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights. And if LB is going to be doing these every Thursdays, it sure will be hard for me to choose which to go to between KOF13 and MK9 :(

I would love to meet at tnl since I am free this weekend. However, Final Round is this weekend so I don't know if I want to actually go to tnl cause its usually empty during majors. But I am willing to set something up next week, I just need to know what days people are free next week. I will post what days I am free myself later on when I fine out my shifts for next week.

ok guys, a bit of an update. I also play MK9 and usually always go to The Gamer's Edge in Valley Stream NY on Thursdays. The place there is super cool and it's only $5 for all night play. All you have to do is bring the game and they will set you up.

Now, the reason I say this is just to see if anyone is willing to come on out there and get something started. I have a player who is willing to play KOF13 there and we would like to know if anyone else wants to. It just seems like KOF13 is too dead in NYC or maybe everyone is just keeping it on the low.

But anyway, like I said, if anyone is wiling to meet up at The Gamer's Edge on Thursday nights, I'll be there. Just gives me a heads up so I can bring my stick along. And if you live in the Bronx, I would have no problems giving you a ride home since I do that for some of the MK9 players who attend The Gamer's Edge.

Ok so after watching the Kumate yesterday, East Coast's skill level overall is shit & this needs to change ASAP. I'll be moving back to Queens this Wednesday, so anyone who's really trying to get better needs to post up on here & contact me because I know people, we all need some fire lit up under our asses because this play is so atrocious & some of the commentary does not help, giving misleading information to stream viewers who are interested in the game. Marco's my boy & no bad blood to him, but he should not be winning that easily when Zidane/XAQ/RyRy (Who's from VA) are not in attendance at all, so if you're mad at me, good, then step your shit up. Also that's not to say I don't appreciate what people are doing but this scene here is so stagnant about actual progress, do you guys not care about losing to the same Month 2 shit, good god, anyway, I hope this helps.

I'd try to come, but as of right now since I just moved back, I'm completely broke & have to get some work first but it sounds like a good idea. And as a suggestion, since it's a Ranbat type tourney you're going for & considering others schedules, if you could, I think it would be better as a semi-weekly event, of course that's just my two cents.

True that. You got a point there. Bi-weekly sounds good, i am aiming for a place at st marks called 8bit and up. Im cool with the people there only problem is that there's limited set ups and other would have to bring their own system/game and yes i will stream this everytime

Ggs to those I played yesterday. I was the King, Takuma Iori player. I really hope to see more KOF players at NL and hope more players come out to NL to play. Good players, new players, just more people to play. Malik whenever you plan on dropping by Next Level let me know I will definitely drop by because I really need to level up in this game. I'll be at Next Level every Friday playing KOF. If there is a day where more people are in attendance for KOF please post here and I'll do my best to make it.

I just got home from the Kumate#6... I had a BLAST!!! even do I got blown away in the first round, but I knew that will happen... I'm still not use to the fight stick, everyone keep saying that it will take a year to get used to it, and I'm only been using it for about three weeks now... So little by little to get back to the pad level and than higher.

Congrats to Malik for getting second place. I will be in in the next Kumate... peace out NYC!!!

Most of the time, Savage Saturdays for KOF is cancelled due to # of participants so your best bet is on Fridays & whenever there's a Kumate which is supposed to be scheduled one Friday a month.

I know for a fact that PachuKOF & like two other guys are there every Friday so you'll have someone to play, I can't afford it so much honestly & there's other reasons I don't frequent Next Level which I won't get into specifics on here, but yeah, you'll have people to play & will probably be happy to see someone new.

OK guys so the House of Crack tournament is scheduled to happen tomorrow if the weather doesn't get as bad as reports are saying. Venue and Entry are $7 a piece totaling to $14, 360 is the system being played on, All DLC characters will be available, and tournament time is scheduled to be 3:00PM, don't be later than 2:45PM. If the weather is too bad then this will be postponed until next Friday with the same rules. Also next Saturday is the monthly Team Stickbug (http://dreamcancel.com/forum/index.php?topic=2807.0) series so make sure you make both if time & finances allow you to. If you say NYC, then there's not TOO many of us that actually live near there but people usually meet up at gatherings & only come to Next Level for tournaments but if you do go randomly on a Friday/Saturday, you may see one or two setups then. I ended up showing up thinking it was still going on (I knew it would be tough for out of towners, but I figured those of us living in the city would have an easy time. I had no problem getting there taking the 2). I got to Bum's house and rang the bell several times, laziefreddy and garoumike texted me back telling me that they think it's postponed (thanks to mike and freddy for responding, hope i wasn't too annoying with the texts). Finally I buzzed one last time to make sure and finally Bum responded and though I couldn't hear him cuz the intercom was all scratchy, he didn't sound happy. I'm assuming he was living up to his name and being a bum sleeping.
Luckily I have a friend who lives near Bum (they actually know each other from their smash days) so I ended up going to his house and playing sfxtekken.

Most people show up on Fridays but generally most KOF players don't go to Next Level, we meet up at other places. Are you free on the weekends because that's when most of us actually have a chance to play since a majority of the KOF players are older.

Hey guys, Attia the mothafuckin Hun here. So I have a friend from France who's been here fora little while named Damascus (plays ssf4). He still keeps in contact with his friends in the French community and a French kof player named Frionel (one of the best in France, don't think I've ever seen a match of his) is going to be in the city next Wednesday (and only Wednesday apparently). He wants to visit Next Level and he'd like to play the kof competition in the area, so Damascus asked me to let you guys know.

I pointed out to Damascus that Wednesdays are usually busy at Next Level (which he already knows since he normally goes to battle circuit). He told me that there's normally 1 or 2 casual stations, so we should be able to use at least one for kof. I don't know what time Frionel intends on being there, I'll ask my friend and let you guys know (hopefully earlier than later so we can get games in before things get busy).

Um... I think that's it. If you have a question let me know. I don't have a facebook, but I know Malik does, so if you wanna mention this on the kof page we have (I think we have one, right?) and let everyone know who doesn't check this thread. I'll be there with Damascus and Frionel, so you should be able to spot me.

Ok so Frionel isn't going to be at Next Level tomorrow til about 8pm (if I understood Damascus properly Frionel's plane isn't arriving til late afternoon or something).
Also, Damascus spoke with Henry Cen and apparently Henry said that if we have at least 8 people there for kof tomorrow he will add kof to battle circuit tomorrow (and I'm assuming just for tomorrow since Frionel will be there).
Dynicksty (hope I spelled it right) said that Frionel posted on facebook that he's not leaving til 7pm Thursday. I haven't asked Damascus about that as I'm going to be busy with my family Thursday anyway, but you guys can ask Frionel what his plans are for Thursday when you see him tomorrow.
I wish we could've gotten more time to play him but oh well. Hope to see some of you guys tomorrow. Also, good luck to those of you going to evo. Vamos Pachu! Freddy, I think I saw you got duc first round, bad draw but I think you can beat him.

Edit: Nvm freddy they moved you. Duc is thanking the kof gods for his luck right now.

Not that many of the East Coast guys read this thread anyway but people should be going to Next Level tonight since a session never got planned, Pachu & others should be going so that'll be a good look.

Just heard from Henry Cen that KOF is going to be added to Savage Saturdays again JUST for this upcoming month of September & this is scheduled to be the first weekend of that month according to the calendar so whoever can make it out should try to
http://www.nycnextlevel.com/events/2013-09 (http://www.nycnextlevel.com/events/2013-09)

Also Battle Circuit #35 which is Sept. 4 is having KOF as well

So KOF is done at Battle Circuit but it had a decent run IMO, everyone should honestly be trying to push to make the TSB monthlies as far as on-going tournaments are. Savage Saturday this weekend is being done as a trial so the turnout will determine the future of it on there

Ok so the next major The Northeast has coming up is NEC XIV & usually around this time The Secret Society trains up to be in the best possible shape & have been doing this for more than three years now. Since I myself & most of us lead busy life thus making it difficult to meet up, I am going to propose an idea inspire by what I went through playing Melty Blood Acrtress Again on the days when it was on PS2 only. FROM THE WEEKEND STARTING October 18-20, there will be a session ONE of the weekend days (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) to sit, play, critique, and to enjoy the game UNLESS there is some event or other plans take that much priority. ANYONE is welcome as long as they know how to conduct themselves & behave. IF you display signs of behavior that is out of place and disrespect that is uncalled for, you will be asked politely to leave then otherwise things will get "messy." So as I said ANYONE is welcome, BUT if you wish to partake LET ME KNOW because I will NOT go out of my way to help YOU out, everyone needs to be responsible for themselves & learn how to manage their own time/schedules. Hope to see people show up looking to seriously improve themselves & take themselves to another level.
NOTE: For location details, reply back or send me a PM.

KOF's been taken out of Team St1ckbug monthlies as of the last tournament in case no one heard yet. So as it stands there's no tournaments going on in the NY/NJ/PA area aside one coming up in November but that's a one time thing & this is just a heads up

Good turnout at Mashfest last night, there were about 7-8 different people playing KOF. We're going to try to make this a permanent thing for every one of these events since it seems that people can make it there. The next one is January 27 so try to make it there for those interested in playing with people in Manhattan or in NY period. APEX is this weekend & if you're going to KOF only, you only have to pay the $20 spectator fee since it's a 1-Day event and the entree fee ($10) for it. For more questions, check the APEX 2014  thread (http://dreamcancel.com/forum/index.php?topic=3019.0).

A few people are going to Mashfest at Fashion 40 Lounge this Monday, it starts at 6PM and ends at 10PM, $5 to get in and you have to be 21 or older to enter since it is a bar. Most of the guys who plan on playing are going to show up either exactly at 6PM or no later than 7PM so show up early otherwise you'll miss an opportunity to play with people in the city.

Yeah Next Level isn't too bad via public transit from Astoria. If you need a main indicator on how to get there you take the D Train to 9th Ave. and walk from there, but to get to the D you can transfer from another train in your area.

I'm throwing a session at my house today (last minute I know) and Monday. PachuKOF will be at the session Monday so if you want to play him, come through BUT PM me first so I can notify whoever's interested in coming.

Ok so since EVO is literally a month from now, I am going to host weekly sessions at least once a week for people to stay in shape & fine tune any issues they have before going. Reply to this message or PM me for more details

Also I'll be hosting the last scheduled session this Saturday (07/05/2014). If we can get an AverMedia to record & upload that'll be good. Remember, we're playing on Xbox 360 if you're gonna come

Anyone who plays still should come to NEC this year, there is a $1,000 pot FREE ENTRY tournament so show your support. Link to the thread is  here (http://dreamcancel.com/forum/index.php?topic=3345.0) so make travel arrangements, request days off, save your coins starting now because if you live anywhere NEAR this side of the country and miss this one not due to school or work obligations, you will regret it. Hope to see all KOF players there.
