General Discussion / New Kof Confirmed?
« on: August 06, 2014, 04:00:46 AM »
Read here:
http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2014/aug/05/new-king-fighters-development-will-be-3d/

"Recently, SNK Playmore added a staff recruitment page to their website for a new King of Fighters.

This entry, however, will not be using the high definition sprites of previous titles. Instead, the new King of Fighters will be in 3D.

Read below for more details.
Along with a game programmer, the recruitment page specifies that the company is looking for a CG designer who can work on 3D and high-end character models.

Siliconera managed to get in touch with SNK Playmore and confirmed the 3D aspect of the new game. It's currently unclear whether the title will truly be 3D similar to the Tekken series or if it will take a 2.5D approach like Capcom's Street Fighter 4.

Sources: Siliconera and SNK Playmore's official website.

Tip sent in by XeroDgX."

That a new Kof was on the way and that it will be using 3d models. I imagine this is to speed up the production time wile reducing the cost and attracting more people.

I know some people are looking forward to something new, and this might be it.

Thoughts?

This channel has been posted before, but I was simply posting a Street Fighter and King of Fighter video that I found interesting as I hadn't seen it done before.

Simply thought it was interesting to watch.

Yea you also stress your hand out with it so low.  Slow inputs are great, hence why I recommend CvS2, but Kof is fine. Anything but SF4. Marvel requires complete half circles.

Double half circles in Kof have some leniency, so be aware of that.

I know Tha C-Master was supposed to upload some more neat videos with alternate inputs.

I don't recommend using SF4 to practice on a new controller.  The very loose inputs and input storing can really mess up your since of execution in other games.  I always recommended Capcom vs SNK 2 for the following reasons:

1.  You have training mode, and some older games don't.
2.  You can adjust the speed to very slow (1 star) and learn the inputs slowly, and increase the speed as you improve.
3.  It doesn't have the input leniency of SF4 or most newer game.  You have Kof inputs AND SF inputs and you can learn both.

I think the hitbox is your best bet because you have the quickest speed (especially once you learn alternate inputs), more accuracy, and as you said comfort.  I like being able to play all day with no discomfort or being able to lay down and play if I see fit.

One thing you can also do is also do some trials or beat up on the CPU to  help yourself mentally do the motions.  Doing it in practice is a start, but you also want to be able to react with it.  Which also takes some practice.

The jump button being down allows you to use your right thumb to jump, which means you are using two hands to control your character, with one finger on each button.  This way you have the quickest and most precise control for things like 360's and tiger knee inputs.

Someone had messaged me this and I thought it would be a good idea to relay it here to see what people thought.  It talks about Kof's mechanics and SF's.

Some things I thought were interesting:

A lot of the people feel qualified to comment on a game they aren't familiar with, saying things like it's badly balanced based on some top 8 picks, counter pick heavy  and everything else.

Obviously most people will always go with what they prefer, but people refuse to think critically.

The Kof side seems to have the debate a bit stronger in terms of how the game is designed.  I'd imagine this is because the overwhelming majority of Kof players have played SF4 and other games, whereas most SF players have never played Kof.

It's interesting nonetheless.  Maybe somebody wants to add an educated opinion from here.  I'm just bringing it to your attention since I thought it was only fair.

Training Room / Re: New player a bit confused about punishing

If they are dead set on doing DP's; just block them.

If they don't do anything, use the back C/D option select, which is a throw/attack.

Throws start up in 1 frame, so if they use it as well, you'll always tech.

Consoles are easier in some ways, but they definitely have their share of issues as well.  More expensive and time consuming to update on is one (patches), they don't run nearly as good as a functional PC is another.  Fighting games take very little resources compared to other genres so running it wont' be a problem.  You'll only be using one computer on FG's live most likely anyways.

Emulating won't be an issue if we're talking about modern games.  Lag isn't an issue if you're playing live, lag online is an issue on consoles as well, and even worse (especially certain games where one console has an inherent lag time compared to another, ala SF4), with PC's this isn't a problem unless a person is running an ancient toaster.  People love to talk about arcade quality.  Arcades are really just computers in a giant cabinet, so it can be done outside of that.

For computer parties you're really better of simply using a laptop.  I think of the issue comes from the fact that most people just don't care to learn how to use a PC (the fighting game community tends to be younger and also not as computer savvy and don't want/can't spend money on a gaming computer, even though it's cheaper in the long run), and it's not "mainstream" for fighting games.  Consoles are just plug in and go.  You can plug in a PC and use it too and with the cost of consoles going up with more expensive games, they are often just watered down PC's.  PC's also have the advantage of accepting any controller and most are simply plug in and play.

I'm glad that more and more fighters are finding their way to the PC because I find myself gaming on it almost exclusively (between my desktop and laptop).  It's already on, it's fast, the games are cheap, and you get some pretty neat mods and fan projects too.  I'm just waiting for 3d fighters to find their way there.

For the foreseeable future, you will see gaming on consoles.  Though with smartphones and portable games becoming more mainstream, I expect to see a decline in console buying when you could just get a PC at that point.

One more thing to factor is that gaming events are often sponsored by consoles, which is why you see their presence there.  If a computer company was the main sponsor you'd certainly see more PC's.

General Discussion / Re: The King of Fighters XIII Video Thread

I discovered that someone I ran across online on steam recorded our match, along with some other DC team members matches, lol:

vs LazieFred

Yea I think I put up a vid from him a while ago.  He records everything and has a community thread too iirc.

Those were some cool matches.  Good to see some of the players here in action coming from a member who mostly reads.

I'd like to give this game a test so I can let everyone I know about how it actually runs.  I am also used to recording and uploading matches if necessary to give some video feedback of the matches as they happen so I'd love to help.  I have a Laptop and Desktop that are more than capable of handling the game.

I hope so too.  Is there a place where you can post vids of your matches?  Could I make a personal thread for it?  That way I can get some feedback and things like that.

Hey man, there is a thread here video feedback:

Been lurking the forums a little bit trying to find some competition for KoFXiii.  I played a bit of the old school stuff, and LOVED Capcom vs SNK 2.  I find this game to be great and it still has that old school feel unlike many other fighters nowadays that have been watered down (though I still play them too sometimes).  Seems like a cool community without a ton of trolls so it would be nice to play some of you!

I also do videos so I can watch myself play and improve my game.  Hope to have fun!
