Online Matchmaking / Re: NeoGeo Station KOF 95 netcode testing

You're absolutely right. Ping does fluxuate. However I'm talking about major fluxuations. If your ping goes from 100M/S to 120 M/S that's perfectly normal. 80 - 150 you're getting into the game has to reset the parameters. Allowing for more input delay, slower match, etc. That would be why a connection of 100M/S is better then 200M/S. If your ping is better, then the 2 systems can communicate faster giving a better quality match.

Also GGPO works on. A completely different style of hiding lag. It let's the game speed fuxuate slowly throughout the match giving the illusion of a perfect running smooth match. SNK games run with a set game speed that gets readjusted if the connection between the 2 systems slows down enough to the point to no longer handle that game speed. Hence why SNK games are jittery at times while GGPO & Capcom for that matter really don't get jittery (unless you count the teleporting which is when the slow moving adjustments can't keep up with the change in Ping).

All I'm saying is it seems xbox resets the parameters a little smoother then PSN. This only really matters if the parameters are a static type like te SNK games and not variable type like the Capcom and GGPO GAMES. I have not played a capcom game on PS3 but I would imagine there is no difference really since the game speed is moving all the time so it should really be noticable unlike SNK games where it is.

^ Only major difference between PSN and Xbox live I've seen would be ping recovery. Meaning when your ping jumps up or rapidly decreases (I.E. going from 80M/S to 150M/S in a few seconds) how the game adjusts the connection. Xbox seems to run smoother then PSN.  This is going by Tekken 5DR and KOF95 so maybe I just have bad luck with game.

Personally I prefer the Tekken5DR over Tekken 6 on xbox cause of the net connection on 6.

Someone's telling you a fib. It's pretty good. Not as good as NGBC.

You're probably right. I keep thinking about 02UM as when it first came out. As long as the ping wasn't erratic, the matches were pretty good. The problem came with the updates. I ended up playing a guy from Japan the other day where the match had the same lag, but was dropping moves like crazy. What I couldn't understand was he left, then came back and the connection was near flawless. Wondering if 02 is getting the 98 & Garou treatment with the one sided input delays.

Honestly I would put XII on par with 02UM. It has lag (I got 1 second input delay) but it's still quite playable compared to the slowdown the old netcode used to do. The buffering is in tact and dropped moves are at a minimal. Worst thing you might have to do is slow your input motions down a touch.

I'm off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but I work midnights, so showing up for a couple of hours on the weekend is no big deal for me.

Samurai Shodown 2 needs love. Suprised it never has so far.

I don't have GGPO so I'll play on Supercade if it's on there.

Might try to get a game in, but haven't played AOF seriously since the original so I'm sure I'm cannon fodder.

Update: Thanks for the games. I had fun.

PureYeti I loved your Mongolian character (w/ the pony tail). Somehow that reminded me of playing my ex-roomates Hakan (SSF4) without the oil. It was sad but I was hoping he had a command throw, and when you blasted me with it I was cheering.

Solidshark: Your Mickey made me remember playing AOF1 in the arcades, I had a serious nostalga moment there when you 1st threw out the ground fireball. Been many years now.

Been playing a lot of RB Special on MVS. Wouldn't mind playing it on Supercade.

Cause I'm sure I'm not the only one who is wondering, but why do you guys think that even with UM out, a lot of countries and tons of players still prefer OG2k2 to UM? I recently played OG2k2 and the game is still a lot of fun to playa nd also feels a bit faster compared to UM.

but there has to be a reason why OG2k2 gets so much play even to this day.

From what I heard a few things though I am not 100% sure on this 2nd hand info.

1st A Neo Geo MVS is way easier to afford in an arcade. Buying the new system to get UM does not appeal to a lot of arcade operators who are on a tight budget.

2nd GGPO community for OG2k2 is pretty established. There are a lot of problems with the online on UM and many don't want to deal with it. They would rather stick to the original on GGPO instead

3rd This one I am not positive on but I have heard a few complaints about the balance on UM. Some say 2k2 is better balance wise though to me I really don't know about that.

What time zone are we working with? GMT kinda scared me. Thinking Eastern but what do I know. BTW online in player match now. Probably going to be playing random mostly right now.

(update) My net connection is crap today. 1 1/2 sec lag no buffering and dropped moves makes for a frustrating night I'm bowing out while I'm behind.

^ It seems like the motions need to be preformed slower, but no I get them off. Which system are you playing on? The computer rom when I played before seemed to give me trouble compared to the MVS I usually play.
