What would you guys think about something for SNK non-fighters and see who can put up the best score for a game? It'd be like everyweek, one game would be chosen, and everyone would see who can put up the biggest #s on the board. If you can provide proof of your score, with a screen shot or record your playing, that's welcome, but not required. Games we'd run would be mostly the old side scrollers and shrumps like Viewpoint, Aero Wings, Metal Slug, and even the new Trouble Witches on XBL. What do you guys think?

Sounds good. Now I voted for Metal Slug, because that is only game I have on my PS2.

Ok, for Metal Slug,

High Score: 263593
Difficulty: Normal
Lives: 3
Reached: Stage 3

I want a second shot, so if anyone else feel like extending the MS challenge another week, I'm game.

doesnt the ps version have combat school like in the neo cd version. i could plug in my cdz again and see what scores i had. but combat school you cant die or its over, so you automatically get the most points per level  (depending on if you can find all hidden pows) cause you wont lose your pows, since you die and its over. also got viewpoint and pulstar and others.

id liuke to add that you guys should add neo turf masters sometime in the future, game is probably still one of the best golf games ever (arcade style awesomeness).
In the end, there can only be XIII.

While I'd prefer the straight neo-geo port, would love to see the score you had Musolini. And I'll add neo turf masters to the list. Thanks.

no prob, ill do that sometime in the near future. also, another fantastic game for scores comparisons is blazing star, shits a blast. only problem is i only played this in the cades and on emu. never released on cd, also i dont think its ever been ported to any other consoles. strikers 1945+ is another one of those great games. i think these are the best shooters ever made on the neo, and some of the bes ever in general.

oftopic, you guys know that you can already dl the free psn games (got wipeout & game with dude that got electirc powers).

edit: i dont quit remember but i think my ms score was easily over the mil. either played on mvs or hardest. also i always play max lives (5?). funny fact bout neo cd version, you got 5 credits, you lose them and its over. you cant continue on and on (dont remember the aes version, arcade you just keep on keepin on with those quarters). i usually finished the game in 1 credit, but dont remember how many lives id lose before id finish (since i always chose 5 lives).

Ok. I'm giving Metal Slug an extension for one more week, and hoping to put up my best score yet. Right now I'm polling the next game to be for the challenge. The choice is yours.

is there any chance we might be able to get sky stage on this list?

On the next go-around, certainly. But speaking of that, should I also mention Neo-Geo Heroes: Ultimate Shooter too you think?

Lives: 3
Reached: Stage 3

High Score: 589410
Difficulty: Normal / MVS 3
Lives: 5
Reached: Stage 6 (Final Mission)

I only have the SNK Arcade Classics version of MS, which always is always set to 5 lives on normal. So I included my score after 3 lives, for the sake of comparison, and my score after all 5, just 'cause I wanted to keep going.

Until the last stage, Allen is by far the hardest part of the game.

In defense of my score, it's been a long time since I've played Metal Slug, and at my best I've been able to break the million mark. But I assume that's also the case for everyone else who's participating, and this is all just for fun. :P

I fear this may be the only game I'll be able to participate in, since I don't own any of the other games in the poll. Love the concept for this, though. Hope it keeps going.

Great scores Rex. It does feel funny coming back to it after you've been away for so long. If I or anyone else can't beat you tomorrow, you'll be declared High-Score Challenge winner for Metal Slug.
