thing where 13 is lacking is some animations like falling animations. it aint really that important, but after being spoiled by sf3 falling animations where everybody spins soo fucking beautifully i do miss them a lil bit.but its only minor, like no special intros and only 1 winpose. a least we gotr taunts back.
In the end, there can only be XIII.

Yes faces that havent in more than 4 kof games, I want Adel, Momoko, Duck King,Oswald, Malin, Gato, Tizoc, B Jenet, and 98 iori and billy kane if they where really on the disk information
other than that the American sport team, 96 boss team as DLC

I do think that its one of the best looking 2d fighter especially in the extra detail they put into the game, love the stages absolutely breath taking, its pushing the boundary.

Other than that the next Samsho done in a a water color or painting stile that would be mind blowing

Ashspiralingblood

didnt kof 12 have the ground spinning sprite along with when you where air

Yes, I agree with you at this point. KO animations look the same for all characters. Animate this sprites is a titanic, so I can understand this. Like the most of taunts are other animations recicled, or there aren't intros, or only one win pose. But this something they could improve easily for next titles (if we have them..) Oh, just imagine. Own KO animations, incresed move lists, better taunts, intros, "get ready anim" when you select char... and more characters of course.

Other thing I really appreciate are color palettes. Not only the fantastic work they have done with Raiden/Big Bear or Takuma/MrKarate, but colors palettes like Yuri's ones (it looks like she wears a different outfit with each color), or King wearing gloves or not depending on the color you choose, Benimaru different t-shirts (or without), Raiden changing outfit, etc. Is something never seen before in 2D.

Well, as i remember old kof games didn't have great falling animations either, so it might be a nostalgia thing. I think it is ok, any improvements are welcome ofcourse but i wouldn't ask for any on the graphic's department since every character would need to recieve the same updates separately so it would be way to much of a hassle.

Nagare_Ryouma

I don´t thin the intro animations will be animated specially for the console release.
I do think that, if the KOF 13 becomes a mega hit for SNKP, and they plan to continue the series, we will probably see them soon.
When you select a character, you can even hear classic catch phrases that characters said at the begging of the matches in previous games.
Now that they finally made a full game, they won´t have to go back to scratch.
They can start adding certain characters, certain moves, little changes to some costumes, etc; just like old time. They won´t have to go back to scratch again.

from 96 onwards characters could fall forwards or backwards, on their backs or fronts, spin horizontally, spin vertically (this was the ugliest animated one, the one you get for instance when goro did his special throw).
In the end, there can only be XIII.

yes, closely followed by sf3 series and motw. but 13 is way above those 2 (cept in animation, in which sf3, motw and aof3 are at least on par with 13).

Gotta love how timeless 2D art can be, Capcom's work on Darkstalkers is very impressive to this day as well.

Yeah and its the overall package that makes 13 so impressive, it isn't just the animation but the exellenet backgrounds and the bright colors and the attention to detail on the character coloring and body part shadows. Add to that the fantastic special effects (love Maxima's steam effects) and you have a real winner.

But is not only graphics are gergous, I think Nona did an incredible work of art direction giving to new KOF a unique style. I'm pixel artist and I'm totally fascinated for KOF XII/XIII graphics.

This, a million times. The thing about Nona is that he likes to make characters unique, even the first first time he popped up (iirc anyway) in KOF2001 he tried to give each character a distinct personality in their win art (dat Yuri).

With XIII he did the same, pretty much each character looks distinct not only in looks but in the body type as well. With Capom you have Ken, Akuma and Ryu who look pretty much identical but look at Robert, Takuma and Ryo, they all are very distinct in their look. Same with Terry, Andy, Joe, all unique body types and feels. The list goes on goes on, they couldn't have picked a better artist than Nona imo to usher KOF into a new age.

I always loved Nona, even when everybody was hating him because he overexagerated kof characters in 2000-2001. Watching XI's endings or SvC Chaos artworks, I do really love his art.

Exactly. Just compare Terry and Andy, Kyo and K', Mature and King, characters who could be very similar but they aren't. I don't understand why he left the project... not sure if he left by his own or they fired him..

I think I read somewhere that he left due to overwork.

I'm pretty sure the in-game portraits and the official character art were done by different people. At least, that's been the case for most KOFs. At any rate, they have a completely different style.

But more to the point, Nona was definitely the best choice for art director of the new KOF. I really hope someone can fill the void left by his departure. Even looking at just XIII, I suspect that Kula was done after he left, and (in my opinion) it really shows.

Not really, they look like something he would do. I'm note %100 sure if it is he who did the in-game art but through the years I have heard a ton of hate for KOF2001 win art and all of it has been directed at Nona.

Definitely. I think Kula, K' and Maxima are done by the new art director. While Nona tried to give more personality to characters, the new one just tried to keep the "standard" look. The new one (I don't remember he's name) talked about Mai sprite like if it was from him, but the truth is Mai has a strong Nona style in all her pixels... maybe I'm wrong and the new art director did a good work with Mai catching Nona's style or maybe she was started by Nona and finished by the new guy.

Do you think complains about Athena and Ralf/Clark's proportions and XII's pixels are related to Nona's departure?

K' and Maxima look fantastic imo.

Kula is the one character I wanted redesigned completely (costume and all).

They need to slowly make Kula more and more different from K'...much like they did with Ralf&Clark; Mature&Vice.
