Title: High-Score Challenge
Post by: solidshark on May 25, 2011, 10:54:17 PM
What would you guys think about something for SNK non-fighters and see who can put up the best score for a game? It'd be like everyweek, one game would be chosen, and everyone would see who can put up the biggest #s on the board. If you can provide proof of your score, with a screen shot or record your playing, that's welcome, but not required. Games we'd run would be mostly the old side scrollers and shrumps like Viewpoint, Aero Wings, Metal Slug, and even the new Trouble Witches on XBL. What do you guys think?

Title: High-Score Challenge #1: Metal Slug

Ok, for Metal Slug,

High Score: 263593
Difficulty: Normal
Lives: 3
Reached: Stage 3

I want a second shot, so if anyone else feel like extending the MS challenge another week, I'm game.

doesnt the ps version have combat school like in the neo cd version. i could plug in my cdz again and see what scores i had. but combat school you cant die or its over, so you automatically get the most points per level  (depending on if you can find all hidden pows) cause you wont lose your pows, since you die and its over. also got viewpoint and pulstar and others.

id liuke to add that you guys should add neo turf masters sometime in the future, game is probably still one of the best golf games ever (arcade style awesomeness).

While I'd prefer the straight neo-geo port, would love to see the score you had Musolini. And I'll add neo turf masters to the list. Thanks.

no prob, ill do that sometime in the near future. also, another fantastic game for scores comparisons is blazing star, shits a blast. only problem is i only played this in the cades and on emu. never released on cd, also i dont think its ever been ported to any other consoles. strikers 1945+ is another one of those great games. i think these are the best shooters ever made on the neo, and some of the bes ever in general.

oftopic, you guys know that you can already dl the free psn games (got wipeout & game with dude that got electirc powers).

edit: i dont quit remember but i think my ms score was easily over the mil. either played on mvs or hardest. also i always play max lives (5?). funny fact bout neo cd version, you got 5 credits, you lose them and its over. you cant continue on and on (dont remember the aes version, arcade you just keep on keepin on with those quarters). i usually finished the game in 1 credit, but dont remember how many lives id lose before id finish (since i always chose 5 lives).

Ok. I'm giving Metal Slug an extension for one more week, and hoping to put up my best score yet. Right now I'm polling the next game to be for the challenge. The choice is yours.

On the next go-around, certainly. But speaking of that, should I also mention Neo-Geo Heroes: Ultimate Shooter too you think?

High Score: 270570
Difficulty: Normal / MVS 3
Lives: 3
Reached: Stage 3

High Score: 589410
Difficulty: Normal / MVS 3
Lives: 5
Reached: Stage 6 (Final Mission)

I only have the SNK Arcade Classics version of MS, which always is always set to 5 lives on normal. So I included my score after 3 lives, for the sake of comparison, and my score after all 5, just 'cause I wanted to keep going.

Until the last stage, Allen is by far the hardest part of the game.

In defense of my score, it's been a long time since I've played Metal Slug, and at my best I've been able to break the million mark. But I assume that's also the case for everyone else who's participating, and this is all just for fun. :P

I fear this may be the only game I'll be able to participate in, since I don't own any of the other games in the poll. Love the concept for this, though. Hope it keeps going.

Great scores Rex. It does feel funny coming back to it after you've been away for so long. If I or anyone else can't beat you tomorrow, you'll be declared High-Score Challenge winner for Metal Slug.

Not a bad turnout this first time around. Next time I'll be setting different placements for Difficulty and Number of Lives. As far as the setting of Normal/MVS and 3 Lives, we have our top three high scorers for Metal Slug:

1st Place - PureYeti - 419730
2nd Place - Rex Dart - 270570
3rd Place - KBlackNoah - 270270

Since these guys may not have played Metal Slug in ages, pretty good scores. Really close between KBlack and Rex too. I'll have to step up my shooting skills to keep myself in the top 3 next time. Well played guys.

Next game up to play will be Trouble Witches Neo. Don't forget you've got until July 3 to try and put your best score up.

Those god damn mines caught me by surprise, gave them the finger tho :D

Can we keep this only on MVS titles or have more titles and at least 1 mvs.
Ad aero wings for the next challange too so we who do not own xbox 360 can participate :3

Maybe ad also other games not only snk - bad dudes, dodonpachi, tmnt ..and all the arcade classics :D the guy or girl if any that gets 1 place has to name the next game for the challange

I'm not sure I like the idea of the person who wins getting to choose the next game. Imagine one person who was really good at shooters (Pure Yeti??) choosing shooters all the time and no one else being able to topple him. Voting allows everyone to be a part of the process.

And since this subforum is called "SNK Games" I think this should definitely remain SNK-only. But perhaps you could start another score challenge in the social forum? You could even use the "winner chooses next game" format if you wanted.

I'd rather keep it mostly for the MVS titles. The few who actually wanted to bought newer titles like TWN or KOF Skystage/Neo-Geo Ultimate Hereos shouldn't be forgotten, but most games will be old school and most likely MVS.

Voting allows everyone to be a part of the process.

I'm definitely for voting and keeping the games SNK-centered, at least here.

Later on I, or anyone else could start a high-score challenge for any game in the Social forum. For games like TMNT, Bad Dudes, Streets of Rage, Ikaruga, I'd definitely be willing to put scores up.
I started with SNK games though as a good excuse to play non-fighting SNK games for a change, and to see how good I am compared to other fans; so far I've found I've very little reason to be arrogant about a +200,000 score.

Extending TWN for another week, hope to have my own score up soon.  And restarted the polling for the next line of choices, so choose wisely.

Arcade has different spawns and balance than the regular version does, at least from what I know. Isn't that a bit unfair if arcade gives more points, they shoot faster, and they take less damage? Of course, the same would be for the new-balanced TWN, too.

Not totally sure about the differences between arcade and regular, but I'll let it it go through this time. But I'll try to make sure everyone scores under a uniform setting next time. Thanks for pointing that out Remzi. Would you happen to have a score to submit for TWN?

Finally got a score in

Character: Conan
Score: 19678239
Stage: Final
Setting: Arrange360/Single Play/High Anxiety Mode
Lives: Default

i think the 360 arrange version is kinda easy and for sure scores different.Just try the arcade version and you will see.To get to the last stage in arcade version it's near impossible with only 1 coin...  you have to be some kind of 2dshootingdodginggod LOL
I know this is for fun and kicks but i think it's best to stick to the same version, difficulty and other settings for all the scores posted :)

Final Scores for Trouble Witches Neo High-Score Challenge

1st Place - solidshark - 19678239 - Played as Conan
2nd Place - Kusogaki - 9631560 - Played as Aqua
3rd Place - KBlackNoah - 2595140 - Played as Pril

It should be taken into account that not everyone played on the same mode with this game (Arrange360 vs Arcade), so with the next go around, everyone should stick to the same setting.

Sorry for being late in establishing this, but the next game will be Viewpoint.

For those interested in playing, the scores will be recorded based on MVS defaults with 2 lives and 3 continues. Since I'm late, scores can be recorded up to 8-21-11.

If this game is as fun as I remember it, people should be having a lot of fun.

Highest score I've been able to put up so far is 41700 for Stage 2.

oftopic, im not really feeling the newer shooters (deathsmiles, tbn etc) butblazing star and strikers 45+ are fucking awesome. these are 2 of the best shooters ive ever played (same for pulstar, but that game is not about the score).  dont you guys play espgaluda or dodonpachi? favorite cave shooters atm imo.
Title: Re: High-Score Challenge
Post by: PureYeti on August 12, 2011, 09:26:03 PM

I don't think everyone has access to those shooters.

Viewpoint is pretty tough. There are times I can use the up button to avoid the shots or go through the circle easier at Stage 1.

62250 at Stage 2

back in the days i could actually finish viewpoint and pulstar in 1 cc. same for snes games like contra on highest difficulty. back in the days, lol. i havent even played any of these games in a long ass while. blazing star was hard though (hardest of the bunch imo). i could go to the last 2 levels without dying ones, but the last 2 levels raped me (i actually used to finish this in the arcade back in the days, last 2 levels always took too much doe from me.
Title: Re: High-Score Challenge
Post by: sibarraz on August 13, 2011, 03:51:08 AM
Blazing star was the game with the fetus as the final boss?

Because I understand what are you saying that the last 2 stages raped you, I had heard tons of guys who know about shotters, criticizing the game because the last 2 stages are not hard in the ''challenging way'' but are hard because they are badly designed

At least I don't know shit about shooters, but I could see the point on those 2 stages, but overall, was a funny shooter

Deathsmiles rules, at least I liked it more than espgaluda 2 (one friend bought it from japan, and since is region free) DS is better than DS2, but my cave favorite shooter must be mushime sama, I love everything from that game

Still, sigh, I never saw this post, I would have love to get a high score in TW even though I'm not good at that game
