It is almost universally agreed that a good fighting game lies in how good the vs. mode is. I myself agree with this. However, that doesn't mean that the 1P mode should never be talked about. Some people like myself like playing fighting games for the 1P mode. I like the challenge of being able to beat all the opponents to get to the end of the game, where I fight the powerful boss.
So, since I have never played KOF XIII ( :(), what can you tell me about the 1P mode? How hard is the AI? The bosses? Tell me everything.
-
Saiki is not that bad, could be really cheap, but he overall doesn't require to use some exploit to beat him
Same with dark ash, but this one is worse, he can take 70% of your life without that much of effort, at times his b_f + P could lead to big combos, and the move is really fast
The rest is very forgettable, fighting against the teams is not hard.
I will dare to say that is more easy than 2000 or 97 which IMO are the easiest KOF in 1p mode
-
What are the requirements to fight Saiki? I know there are some, because you supposedly get a "bad ending" if you don't meet the requirements to fight Saiki.
-
To be honest, I don't know, I always end fighting against dark ash and saiki
-
There's a point requirement, but it's pretty lenient. At the end of the sixth stage, you need to have over 2.5 million points. If you have less than that, you get the bad ending.
Little known fact, but there are also different congratulations screens depending on your score. If it's less than 3 million, you just see your team on the screen. If it's between 3 and 4 million, you get your characters plus some others. If it's over 4 million, you get all characters plus fireworks. (At least, I think that's how it goes.)
-
Really? That's awesome Rex Dart, it gaves me a fatal fury special vibe seeing all characters, that's a motivation to get a better score on 1p
-
2.5 million points?
Makes me wonder how the points system is like in this game.
-
doesn't completing the side missions during arcade battles give you a point boost as well as a few other bonuses?

What? There are side missions?

Like most KOFs, you get points based on how much life and time you have left over at the end of the round. You get bonuses for perfects and for straight victories. New to XIII is a bonus for your max combo.

The three bonuses you can get are (1) 50% drive guage (2) 1 super bar or (3) 10,000 points. But I'm not sure what determines which bonus you get. Usually I get one of the first two, and only get the point boost near the very end of the round, but it might just be random?

Are you talking about the challenges on the upper left? (ie perform drive cancel, etc.)
For completing those you should get 1/2 drive, 1/2 super, and points all at once.
Also about leniency for the good endings, I've actually never succeeded in seeing the bad ending and I'm not an amazing player at XIII - it's pretty lenient :P
-
Sorry, my memory sucks. Also, it's been way too long since I've played XIII. :(
Also, welcome to DC BioBooster!
-
OK, seriously: what side missions?
-
If I had to take a wild guess (and it's a pretty damn wild one considering I've seen all of maybe 20 seconds of XIII's Arcade Mode), he may be referencing the top-left challenges you get during a match to where you have to do a Drive Cancel, or perform a Super Cancel or a DM or something of that ilk.
-
Thanks Rex! (Will have to post something on Meet & Greet when I get a chance)
Have been a hard-core KOF man for as long as I can remember \(^o^)/
@Saitsuofleaves - that's exactly right. For beginners it's a really nice idea as it makes 1P more engaging. For folks who've been around XIII a bit, the sorts of stuff that they do normally will unintentionally bring in those bonuses and provide more resources for combos (drive/super) which is a nice way to play 1P without having to necessarily be in training mode.
-
How many stages long is the 1P mode? It always varies from game to game.

Six stages, then two bosses. The console version also added Billy as a midboss (apparently).
-
That's a cool addition (if it's true). Now if only there was some way to sneak in fighting Ash or human Saiki in there...
-
I think tutorial mode is pretty well made from what I can tell. I like the fact that the easier combos scale to more experienced players where you can add in as many extra hits/juggles as you like as long as you complete what's in the requirements while doing so.
Training mode in arcade is fine, but it makes a huge difference having some guidance as is the case w/ console.
CAN'T WAIT!

This is so true. I have a feeling that this will help me finally become a good KOF player.

Yeah fer sure. It's definitely going to help me. There's going to be a ton of stuff to do with the 1P mode, esp in story. As I understand it, it's three perspectives Ash's/Adel's/Heidern's and with Ash, you can choose all of the teams individually.
Getting HYPE!

You know, I've played a lot of the new fighters recently. BlazBlue imo has the best single player content out right now. SF4 and MK9's single player stuff was ok but nothing amazing, although I did like the Challenge Tower in MK9.
But seriously though, after I've been away for a bit and started to look at the single player stuff being offered in KOF13, you'd have to think that this game will be setting something of a standard for any companies who wish to give their online/non tournament goers modes to waste their time in. It's amazing how much work has been done to this game to make sure it meets the demand for both hardcore and casual gamers. And to think this is what we were supposed to get in KOF12.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who is excited for some good single player content. :)

I have a feeling that XIII's story mode has the *potential* to topple BlazBlue's as there seem to be plenty of paths to take, but more to the point, *if* story mode has animations throughout it will be a huge advantage for KOF (console footage has already shown some animations). Can't remember which vid it was, but they showed Ash receiving the letter which animates as well as his arms (think there were some other bits like that too). < this could be mainly limited to the three main intros tho! The official site mentions that the final chapter will be using movie bits.
It still stays true to its premise (is visual novel style), but the KOF team mentioned that they put an extreme amount of work into it in one of the blog posts. So what I'm really hoping for is voice acting and lots of it. BB literally has hours worth, but can be slow paced and drag quite a bit leaving folks wanting for more fights or more rounds of it. IMO, voice/dialog is what drove BB's stories as visuals were limited to around 5-8 slides per character and maybe as few as 10 backgrounds (ignoring the comedic bonus bits for now, but those were along the same lines too).
If they are using voice, I think there'll be plenty of potential to beat out BB.
Now this amount of voice would certainly be unprecedented for the series so have my fingers crossed. What keeps my hopes up is at gaming conventions SNK has done special events bringing in their regular voice actors to talk and also act out script dialogue as the characters. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!
To my knowledge I don't think Yamamoto has ever been questioned about voice/animations for story mode in any of the interviews.
Sure I'll be plenty happy with it anyways - just having story mode is very cool for me as it is. I think we can at least expect animations/movies at the beginning and end.
You guys think my hopes are completely unrealistic? You think they would be conspicuously presenting voice as selling point if such were the case?
-
Are KOF13's bosses (Monster Saiki and Dark Ash) hard enough to be considered "SNK Boss Syndrome"? I.E. difficult/impossible to beat for very casual players?
-
neh, they are far from being the worst boss from SNK, or even a kof, even though dark ash could really screw you if he is able to pull a combo

I dunno, man... how many people actually care about voice acting? This isn't Japan where they make a big deal about who the seiyuus will be (or am just making a stereotype here, 'coz if so, I apologize).

Seems like others are jonesing for it as well now that the game has dropped. I wish story mode haters would understand that it is a graphic novel and not meant to be viewed as a movie. I'm still extremely hype for story, and that will likely be my way of working off the rust and earning unlockables ^_^
Now that a lot of us own it, how are peeps liking the 1P content??
Good times? Looks like a good number of folks are finding the missions highly applicable as well.
Damnit Japan! RELEASE THE GAME
-
Haha, I've been meaning to bump this thread to ask the question you just asked: How are people liking the 1P in the game?
Seriously? I have yet to get my hands on it and it looks amazing. Trial mode seems difficult, but I like a challenge. Also, I'm sorry to hear that Story Mode isn't getting good reception. I think it's cool from what I've seen.
Long live the King!
-
I would be more interested in story mode if the text wasn't so damned slow. The arcade mode is what you's expect. I do like mission mode.
-
Arcade Mode: I like it since is really practical thanks to the fact that you can get lots of stocks to try on practicing some large combos, I think that the target actions were a great idea
But
The game is incredible easy, even on ultra hard.
Story Mode: I had mixed feelings, I liked the scenes on the arcade mode, but 2 months ago, watching the SP movie, and the intro, plus the new stages, I was expecting something a la blazblue, with every team having a big route, multiple endings, and all that stuff, but it was really underwhelming, also, I was expecting something more depth with the elisabeth-ash interaction, but nothing happened
That being said, I loved the true ending, just because what will mean in the future
Mission Mode: It's ok, the combos are a worthy challenge, and there is lots of things to unlock
Overall, Blazblue 1P mode is miles better than this one, but is still decent and fun to play, but could bore you quickly

Thanks for your input, sibarraz. You gave me a lot of insight into the game.
All I have to say is that I don't have the luxury of getting bored with something, so when the time comes when I get the game, I will enjoy it to its fullest for as long as possible.
