Title: New to KOF
Post by: Daniel P on July 24, 2011, 10:29:20 AM
Hello everybody,

I'm new to this site and KOF in general.  I've been a SRK member for a couple years now and a fighting game fan pretty much since I started playing games.

I've been a long time SF fan and the only snk experience I have is from CVS2 and a little KOF2k6.  I discovered DreamCancel from watching the Revelations stream.  It was an eye opener for me seeing high level KOF13 play.  I googled dreamcancel and here I am lol.  I've listened to all the DC podcasts so far and can't wait for more.

I've watched DandyJ's KOF tutorial on youtube to get an idea of the games mechanics.  I'm currently learning KOF2k2UM on xbl to get a feel of the KOF gameplay and to be ready for KOF13 console release.

I hope to be able to play KOF 13 on a competitive level and want to see this game/community get the exposure it deserves.

Looking forward to learning more about the game  :)

Welcome to DC :)

Cool to see more people getting hype for KOF thanks to seeing it at Revelations.  It can take a while to get used to it since there is so much flexibility and depth in the gameplay, but as long as you're having fun, stick with it and you'll get a rewarding experience :)

Just curious, who do you use in 2002UM and in your favorite SF games?  I always find it interesting to compare character choices between games.

Welcome to the site it's always nice to see a new player with interest in the series and a desire to become a high level player. Hope to see around for years to come both in KOF, SF and beyond.

Welcome to DC Daniel P!  I'm glad the steam, podcasts and video has piqued your interest in XIII.  There's going to be a live stream for several hours today, keep your eyes peeled and don't hesitate to ask questions around here.

However, I'm still trying to figure out what kof2k6 is...

2K6 is Maximum Impact 2. In the U.S. it was released as King of Fighters 2006.

And welcome to the Dream Cancel family, Daniel P.

Welcome to DC. I'm glad this site's publicity at Revelations actually had an impact.

Also, KOF 2K6 = <3

Welcome Daniel! Revelations definitely started a lot more hype and buzz for the KoF series aswell as the release of XIII. Hope to see you on ggpo aswell as XII when it gets released.

Welcome to the site Daniel. Looks like you're headed in the right direction as far as preparation for XIII, and nice to see you're hyped for it too. Hope we get to play you in this and other SNK games you might find fun. Thanks for signing up.

Thanks Omegaryuri and everyone else for the welcome.

In SF I'm a Honda player, I rely on mostly fundamentals/poking.  The first character I tried in 2k2UM was Vanessa.  I liked her character design (she's cute lol)  and she reminds me of Dudley lol.  I'm mostly in training mode since there's nobody on xbl.

Working on movement such as hops/hyper hops.  And BnB combo's I find from this site for various characters.  I'm trying out the characters that I know will be in KOF13 like Kula and King.  I wish Vanessa was in 13... lol.

I also wish Vanessa was in XIII! She would be a terror in HD mode.

You never know Nilcam maybe she just might be one of those extra console characters.

I completely agree with Vanessa being cute.  The local players I play with say she looks like a man, though that might just be some salt from being punched around a bit *laughs* .  Would definitely love to see her come back in XIII (I think one of my teams in the bonus console character wishlist thread was Blue Mary, Vanessa, and Jhun as the streetwise justice team *laughs* ).

And yeah, there's a general dislike for the netcode in the 360 port of 2002UM, so you might have a hard time finding players at random.  Your best bet for finding a training buddy is probably to try hitting up some people in the player directory in the online matchmaking subforum.  You can also try playing original 2002 over GGPO (possibly Supercade or Arclive, too...can't say for sure since I haven't tried those myself, but I'd imagine they have support for 2002), though you'll need to be aware that there are some system differences and most characters aren't quite the same between them (especially Vanessa, who's MUCH better in 2002).
