Post whatever you'd like to see done to the forum/site that seems reasonable.
I know this site is Wordpress and PHP but making it feel like phpBB would make it much user friendly IMO. Melty Bread and Dustloop are practically identical to SRK forums so I think it shouldn't be a problem if you copy them too.
I've got video working though it's somewhat odd to do. I'll post a tutorial in the announcements section. Posting and replying now takes you back to the thread you posted in. The same for new topics.
I'm working on the Moderator stuff. I've asked a few people and have gotten a few "No, thank you's." With the Wiki, I have not yet had a chance to get into that at all. I would like to get comfortable with it before I grant access. I'll look into the direct link to posts after I get home from work.
I'd volunteer to be a mod, anyway some things I'd like to see get done in the near future
- A dreamcancel.com youtube page, it can be used to house "good" KOF videos ranging from KOF 94-XIII along with other SNK games in general, tutorials/tournaments/Casuals/GGPO/PSN/XBLA/etc the whole 9 yards
- A new skin for the website, I dunno maybe something to reflect the logo of KOF XIII
- Improved front-page layout, not urgent just something I'd like to see
I think the character discussion forum should have the characters sorted alphabetically rather than by most recent post. This would make it easier to find a specific character.

I'll get to the YouTube channel once the site is moving along smoothly.
When you say a new skin for the site, do you mean the forums?
How would you like to see the front page arranged?
My idea about the design is to keep everything simple and visually unified. I'm very high on usability. The blue skin on the forum matches one of the blue hues in Kula's hair on the homepage and works well with the logo. On the homepage, I love the simplicity and plan to add a calendar and other sections as we move forward. I really want to put an upcoming events calendar in the footer along with a links to videos, etc.

The character discussion area is the most experimental sections on the forum. One of the moderators requested that each character have a thread rather than a sub-forum for easy access to all of the movelists. It made sense so we're going with it, at least for the time being.

As far as it goes for a new skin just the forums, for the front page maybe a couple subtle additions like newest videos added to the youtube page (when that gets up), articles, newest additions to the wiki, simple stuff
Yeah, that stuff is in the works. I'm trying to feel out what would be appropriate for the front page. Once we have the wiki going, hopefully in the next week, I'll add links to that as well.
How are you supposed to add/minus from Karma? Maybe it should be removed anyway...
Applaud adds karma and smite removes it.

Agreed. The reputation system didn't work out well on SRK at all.
Also, please throw in a mention of #SNKPlaymore on efnet somewhere.
Woah, I can't believe I missed this, but how about an offline matchmaking forum? I don't think online matchmaking requires an entire forum, considering the fact that it's just one area (the internet).
Might as well delete the XII forum too btw...
I was testing out the PM function and I found out that I can't see the PMs that I've sent. My outbox shows that I don't have any messages. Am I missing something here or what?
I think it's broken, same thing happened to me.
EDIT: Also I think it would be very useful if the location we set in our profile is displayed underneath name/avatar.
how about denoting which timezone is being used when announcing new streams? it's hella confusing for ppl who don't know where you chaps are based :]
I really don't think that Last Blade and Art Of Fighters need their own forum. Last Blade 2 can just have it's own thread and no one plays Art of Fighters.
I've added the Offline Matchmaking board beneath the Online Matchmaking board. That seems to be a good place for it.
I've disabled the karma system.
I'm going to keep the XII forum for a little while as I know a few players who just got into KoF because they found XII very cheap. I want them to have easy access to that. If it no one uses it for a month or so, I'll delete it.
SMF does not automatically keep sent PMs. You have to check the box at the bottom of the email that says save to outbox. I have not yet found a way to modify that.
I'm looking into the location display. Edit: Location added.
When something is posted on the homepage, I put the timezone. If it's in the forums that may not happen but I'll definitely encourage it.
I still have not found a way to direct link to posts. Still looking.
I'm trying my best to keep up with these requests but I've been pretty busy. I finished posting all of the XIII movelists that users had not yet filled in last night and that was quite a feat.
How soon would we see a Dream Cancel youtube channel? If THE ANSWER's direct feed videos of 13 should debut there, that would definitely generate more traffic here.
THE ANSWER has his own YouTube page. I'm sure he would prefer to have his videos there as he's doing the work and deserves the credit. The problem is that I have no real way to capture footage of XIII. I don't live near any nice arcades and it doesn't make sense to host a video on a YouTube page that can be found elsewhere on YouTube.
not sure if there's a webpage or forum that has Arcade Cabinet locations. Also thinking of starting Region Specific Threads similar to what SRK does (tho just one thread instead of a subforum) could be a decent start
Is it possible at all to get rid of the ugly prefixes before the topic names?

I'm going to look into it. I like the function but the icon is pretty ugly. I'm still working on the direct link to post. There's a lot of documentation to get through but know that I haven't forgotten it.
I've used a few SMF forums before, so I can help out with a couple of the issues.
If you want to be directed back to your posts after you make them, go into your profile, go to Look and Layout Preferences, and check "Return to topics after posting by default."
In order to link to a specific post, you can grab the link from the icon at the top-left corner of each post. It doesn't separate the post from the rest of the thread, but it will automatically scroll to it.
Thanks, Parapets. I didn't know about the direct link thing so that's very helpful.
I think we need to have a trend explaning the code words use in kof and fighting games in genral like dustloop has on their forum. stuff like what is a dream cancel,max cancel,waking up(not in the mood to spell that long japnase word for waking up), ect
The white and light blue is a good start, I'm curious though, are there plans for a darker layout at all? A few sites have different options for folks who don't like reading black text on bright backgrounds, so an alternative would be nice
If I can find a nice dark theme, I'll install it and allow users to change their theme.
Would it be possible to add a field for Skype in our contact information? I think it could be useful for us when playing against each other over GGPO.
I'm not sure how exactly you pick and add new themes, but in the interest of trying to help, I did a little searching on my own
Perhaps something like this
http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/index.php?lemma=2240
with maybe iori as the background? I myself have generated a few fuckaround forums before, but nothing in smf, so I'm not sure exactly how you have it setup, but I do like the small kula pic, it's a nice touch. So when I saw this theme I thought iori
Would be nice to have the option of choosing a theme that resembles each KOF XIII character's color palette.
We should delete the KOF XII board. It's not being used.
I'd like to see a skin option, I'm not a fan of bright, white color for forums
a dark skin that is easy on the eyes i.e navy blue or black like srk's would be great
bigger avs
Ban images in sigs.

Bigger avs couldn't hurt (around 108x108 pixels), and yeah a darker skin would be cool

Yeah, sigs should be restricted to a couple lines of text only
I'm working on the darker skin. I'll look into bigger avatars and I'm thinking about limiting the signature.
Edit: There is now an option for a dark skin. This can be changed under Profile > Look and Layout Preferences.
Avatars can now by 100x100px.
If you are going to put the stream on the main page, please turn off autoplay.
I'll be sure to do that in the future.
thx for avatar option... and ya no pics in sig please...
Just make sure to restrict the size on images in sigs. I've seen abuse of it before, I'm sure we all have, but no need to take the option away. No one is really abusing the hell out of it. I won't care if I had to make the image in my sig smaller.
coming from SRK. i like the way how they organized their character discussions for SSF4. i just recently got into kof a lot more seriously or at least trying to become a solid player. i noticed how they let you make threads under the characters forum section. which allows people to learn new things about the characters in a organized manner. like having a threads for match ups, videos and etc.
That's a good idea, but i think we need the console version or more people playing the game, so more people can contribute with the character forums.
At this moment i think most forum members haven't played the game yet (like me).
An "other games" section would be cool
Is there any chance that we could get a wiki setup for ngbc??? I'll gladly contribute to that if possible...
Also, is there ever going to be a thread made for foreign players??? It would be kinda cool if we were able to unite players from Germany, Japan, France, or elsewhere...

If you're willing to contribute to it then yeah sure, I can set up a wiki for NGBC later this week
I would like to see the wikis we have filled up with basics before starting a new one. We should be able to fill the 2002UM wiki with the basics (command lists and descriptions rather quickly now that the XBLA version is out.
About the wiki, I have a suggestion. We just launch ours on our website, unfortunatly it's in french (kof is not very popular so we made it in french for everyone here to understand) so you can't copy/paste but you can do some things :
- The movelist are done. Some are in french, some in english as the translator didn't finish the job (and there is a notation problem in the english ones with LP, LK notations instead of ;a ;b ;c ;d).
Exemple of movelist in english( http://basgrospoing.fr/wiki/index.php?title=Kyo-1_(2k2um) (http://basgrospoing.fr/wiki/index.php?title=Kyo-1_(2k2um)) ) and in french ( http://basgrospoing.fr/wiki/index.php?title=Orochi_Chris_(2k2um) (http://basgrospoing.fr/wiki/index.php?title=Orochi_Chris_(2k2um)) ). You can take the movelists on our wiki and retranslate it in english. The only things you have to do is translating "proche" to "close, "ou" to "or", "chope" to "Throws".
- The main system of 2k2um is done in french and we wrote it ourselves as we could not find a true good english tutorial. So if you find someone that can translate it from french to english don't hesitate to do it.
Here is the wiki : http://basgrospoing.fr/wiki/index.php?title=The_King_of_Fighters_2k2:_Unlimited_Match
Hope this will help you a bit. ;)
Thanks for the offer. I'll check it out.

Great episode, syxx sounds exactly like a guy I work with lol.
I liked the podcast with Syxx... I will say that throw breaks do occur quite often in KoF, maybe not in North America, but elsewhere they do... Other than that, it was dope.

This question comes up a lot. The last time we discussed it, we decided to stay specific for now but maybe in the future we would add it. I like that this community is very focused. When I was active at Cyberfanatix, it was always annoying that there was more activity about SFIV than the series the site was dedicated to. The idea behind Dream Cancel was to create a KOF specific place since there are very few other dedicated sites and SRK basically pushed all SNK games into a sub sub forum.
There is a way to add some sort of section where people can find immediate store links (amazon) to buy KOF games?
Also, is there a way to show a map of all the USA players? Like Frappr but that site is down.
maybe a general chatting thread?
it's kinda hard to get to know some of you dudes if we always just talk about KOF
edit: nvm looks like someone made one already
If time is allowed can get work together to get an extensive video with commentary about a specific character in a match, kinda like option-select.com??? It would be dope to see vids breaking down characters and why certain players use certain strats or combos... It would help the newcomers understand more about the game as well, and probably increase their skill once they start to apply the new-found knowledge...
Real quick, can we get an E button for games like KOFNW, NGBC, and some Samsho games???
;e
Done!
Domo arigato gozaimasu!!! I think I've got one last request, unless its already available... Can we put these button inputs on the wiki, since I think translating this over to an actual post would be way quicker (minus a few editing and deleting the ='s)??? Just curious if that's even possible...
Unfortunately, the wiki doesn't play that well with them and it would be too much work to backtrack and add the graphics to all of them.
Hey is it possible that we have the option to have our xbl and psn gametags somewhere near or under our avatar or dc name??? I'm still down for having a thread with a specific list of players and their gametags, but it would also be easier to get someone's gt and add them as a friend, especially if their gt isn't the same as their dc name...
How about some Samurai Shodown icons?
L = Light Slash
M = Middle Slash
S = Strong Slash
K = Kick
SP = Special
Coin/Start = Taunt

It's not possible to add that with the SMF Forums, unfortunately. I suppose people could add that info in their custom title or signatures.
KrazyKone123: I'll get those made up and added on Monday.
L = Light Slash ;l (semicolonl)
M = Middle Slash ;m (semicolonm)
S = Strong Slash ;s (semicolons)
K = Kick ;k (semicolonk)
SP = Special ;sp (semicolonsp)
Coin/Start = Taunt ;st (semicolonst)
Since we have a kick button now, mind adding a punch button so we don't have to use A/C all the time?

We could use Templates. It's easier to use {{abutton}} over using [[image:a_button.gif]] all the time. If people such as me are willing to backtrack as well, "too much work" won't be a problem.
Is there a way to combine the forum with a different kind of chat system for the forum and chat room can be viewed at the same time? I'm asking this because the IRC chat room stays empty, and there has to be some sort of way for we can immediately chat with each other and view the forum at the same time...
Other than using an IRC client or a browser tab, I don't know of any. There is a chat mod for the forum software but I've read a few too many reports of that software killing forums.
lol I'm not even gonna lie, I was wondering when we were gonna see a new front page banner for the site. I come in today and it's the first thing I noticed that has changed.
Can we get a Garou portion of the wiki??? I'm not trying to sound lazy or nothing, but alot of the info on SRK is scattered like the 7 dragonballs and SRK is restricted on some networks... I'm no expert, but I'll even help out with that portion when possible...

Click on the Profile tab and then under Modify Profile, click Personal Message Options. There's a checkbox that will show a pop up whenever you receive a personal message. You can also have an email sent to you whenever you get a PM.
@Jinxhand: I'd be more than happy to start a Garou wiki. I'll modify the all you need to know post to work as a wiki and move Garou to its own subforum. Once we have the basic movesets up, I'll start the wiki. I'm trying to avoid another wiki that looks like the 98UM one.

I'm rather surprised that its in that condition... I thought there was an ample amount of '98 (OG & UM) players... I can try to do something to assist...
But the Garou wiki shouldn't be too bad though, since there's less characters...
Sidebar question... Is there a way to have animated avatars under our name rather than putting it in the signature field??? I tried putting one up and it only takes a screen shot of the first frame of animation and does nothing else, but the signature field keeps the whole gif animation intact...

I agree with that, I think it's time to start putting more work in the 98 wiki too, especially since the SRK wiki's are down currently, also since the 2002UM wiki has been filled with a nice amount of plentiful information.
I'll try to put in some work myself into some characters and ask around too.

I think smileys are not available, but when you post a new message there's an "Additional Options" thing where you can check/uncheck the use of smileys.
So i'm also confused and asking the same thing.
The buttons and directionals are our smiley set, so no, there are no standard smileys available. I'll add some smileys when I get a chance.
Edit: I've added a few smileys.
;)
With all of this talk of arcade boards, sticks, pads, and things of the like, can we get a Tech Talk sub section under Pao Pao Cafe???
In conjunction with the last post, is there any interest in having a separate Media Section, for videos (cmv, matches, etc), art (gallery) and other forms of media???
I'm bumping this thread to ask:
- When will we see a spoilers/hide option? Mainly to hide or "shrink" posts that are too long, or when quoting very long stuff or something like that.
Not saying that my posts are the longest around, just needed to ask this.
- Also something that i need to ask is if my email is visible below my avatar, because it doesn't matter if i check or uncheck the "hide e-mail" thing i still can see it.
You got spoiled!
Use
, minus the space, for spoilers.
Your email is hidden from normal users but you can always see it. It was confusing testing that since I can always see emails.

I second this notion! While our numbers are small and even smaller is our tech savvy people, it couldn't hurt I think. I always like seeing people's custom sticks and discussing parts and PCBs etc.
I was wondering... how hard is to have drawn command inputs in the wiki pages? I mean stuff like ;dn ;df ;fd+ ;c > MAX , etc etc.
I think that would make it easier for non KOF or fighting game beginners easier to read combos and inputs on the wiki page.
Someone just has to upload them, then edit the pages with them.You should join the wiki crew and make that your job :)
I have never worked with Wiki, so I'm clueless on it. But it shouldn't be that bad to try it out. If I have time next week I should definitely try it out and see what I can do.
We've discussed doing that before. There are a few things to consider. Many people find it easier to read hcb, as opposed to ;hcb. Also, most other fighting game wikis use the letter notation rather than arrows. The other thing to consider is the massive amount of effort this will take. There are probably close to 200 hundred character pages at the moment. I would rather use that time to fill in character movesets for 98UM or 2002 or to get a Garou wiki started.
Well I was thinking of making some icons that show the curve instead of having individual arrows. That way instead of writing HCF you can just add ":" before HCF and get the icon. This is me assuming the Wiki page works like forum post.
The wiki uses [[file filename.ext]] type of notation. Post up the icons in the wiki thread and get some opinions: http://dreamcancel.com/forum/index.php?topic=301.0
I resurrect this topic because i can't mark all messages as read, it appears this message:
An Error Has Occurred!
Unable to verify referring url. Please go back and try again.
I can swear there was a thread about this problem, but couldn't find it, or maybe i'm going blind.
I had to monkey around with some settings trying to get the SMF>Wordpress bridge working again. I've restored the settings to the way they were so this error should be solved.
Nilcam, sorry buddy, i know i'm being a pain in the ass, but after your previous message (of this thread) , everything went normal for some hours, then the same problem again.
This problem appears on IE, but with FireFox things are normal, and for some time i will use my brother's PC so it's IE only with it.
It has something to do with cookies. Do you know if he has them turned off or something? Which version of IE?
EDIT : Yup, it looks like it's them damned cookies, i'm using IE 9 (9.0.8112.16421), i enabled the cookies, then deleted them , and i could mark forums read only once, tried to do again, and the same problem.
One thing , i can mark forums read in the forums (like social club for example), but in the main forum page it appears that error.
EDIT2: I did the same thing, enable and delete cookies, and it appears all is solved, need to make some tests before bothering you again :\
Thanks for the tip nilcam.
Thanks for helping me figure that problem out. I thought it might be cookies when I got that error on a fresh install of Chrome.
Is there any way to make when you receive a message more dynamic? I tend to not even notice I've received one until like 30 minutes or more later because I don't even notice.
Sadly, there is not. I've looked for this before and just rechecked. The notification system is the best thing about SRK's new forum software.
Is there anyway to increase post per page?
An increase in posts for page would be great. Was a bit of an adjustment coming to DC when I was previously used to Gaf page lengths.
Is this something we can do?
Too bad re: PM notifications. I think this is what is being asked by Saitsuofleaves, but would it be possible to have the link (or the button) show up in orange? Should be a fairly straight forward java script addition.
So this way we are avoiding a pageload upon message receipt which I think would be hard to handle, but at least when a page does get loaded via user action, the presence of mail becomes pretty obvious.
I would really like 40+ per page if at all possible.
Hmm... I would like the board to be wider or at least depending on the monitor resolution for it to stretch and allow more to show. Dunno if that is problematic to do or not.
