In honor of KOFXIII's console release I have decided to hold an online tournament following the game's debut. Anyone interested in participating please post your gamertag and what console you are getting KOFXIII for.
The goal of this tournament is both to break out KOFXIII in a big way and to have a massive amount of fun while doing so.
The Rules:
- Standard double elimination
- Matchs are best 2 of 3, Finals are 3 of 5
- Winners can't change characters, losers can, everyone can change order
- All characters are legal except for the DLC characters
- There will be a separate tournament for each console provided there are enough players to justify it
- There is no prize aside from honor and glory
The contest will take place on Saturday, December 3rd at 3pm Central time. I will post the brackets here some time before we start. I shall run the tournament from the toolbar chat here. Signups will end on December 2nd at 6pm Central time.
UPDATE I have decided to make personal messages the primary way of reporting your wins/losses to me. I will still be on the toolbar chat in case there is a problem.
If at all possible I asked that people play on a wired connection. If using a router please remember to have it properly port forwarded. I also ask that everyone please install the game to their hard drives. Lastly, I suggest that everyone add eachother to their friends list before the event to help ensure the tournament runs smoothly.
I have noticed that some of you have signed up without mentioning your gamertag (and in one case which system you want to play on). I realize many have a gamertag that is the the same as your username. If that is the case please tell me. Your gamertag is what I'm putting in the brackets. Don't make me guess!
Here is the sign up list. DC usernames first, gamertags second. Please check and make sure your names are there correctly. If there is an error send me a pm and I will fix it. If there is a ??? next to your name then I don't have your gamertag.

Excellent! Yeah, I was thinking using the console voice chat was the way to go. I already asked a bunch of people to help out and I'm just waiting for responses. But it should be known that I asked Nilcam about my idea for this tournament and he is on board with it provided I fine tune the details a bit.

That's not a bad idea. But I am worried about the number of people that can join an xbox live party chat. Isn't it limited to 8 people? Right now I'm leaning towards posting all the matchups in the first post of the thread. After that first round of matches the rest will be handled in text chat here.

First post has been updated! I have the rules and times finalized with the exception of the DLC characters. I don't want to ban characters if I don't have to so I'm waiting to hear more about them.

Yeah, the toolbar chat. It seems to be the easiest way. But I will post the matchups in this thread as well. People will only need to find their name and they will see who they need to fight.

The 360 users could use the Wibiya Chat. The PS3 users could use the PSN Chatroom, which is text and can have up to 16 players IIRC. Another option is to use PS HOME and meet at a apartment/place and use the voice chat. Did that for several SF4 tournaments and it was kinda cool, I mean, it's a different experience.

I don't think that's a bad idea. But since I'm running a separate tournament for each system at the same time it's much easier for me if people check in and report their wins/losses through the toolbar chat.
As far as just chatting with each other during the tournament goes, you guys can do whatever you want. In fact, if you guys can manage to keep all the conversational stuff outside of the toolbar chat then it will be easier for me to do my job since the toolbar chat won't be cluttered.

I will assume, that since they delayed the game for only one month... the only problem is probably the Net-code, so now I'm like 120% sure that the Net-code is going to be really good :)... and that will make the tournament better for everybody. I will wait for the new date.... Peace out!!!

Since the game has been delayed I'll obviously be changing the day this tournament happens. I don't know if I'll be going out of town for Thanksgiving or what. Need to call my folks to see where we are having it this year

I have set a new date for the tournament. It will take place on December 3rd. I wanted to do it on November 26, but I will not be available at that time.
I talked to Dark Geese and he said he will be joining in on the madness. He's also going to try to get his pals in the latin KOF community to sign up. So I think we can look forward to some fierce and diverse competition in this thing.
I'm so hyped right now that I don't know what to do.

@BioBooster: I encourage everyone who"s interested to sign up no matter where they are from. As long as you can cope with the time difference because the tournament is scheduled for U.S. Central time (which is -6 GMT). I'm not worried about lag issues because this tournament is something of a trial run for future events.
@Desmond: Thanks for bringing this other tournament to my attention. It looks like that one is going to be xbox only, but it is much earlier in the day. Seems like they might be far enough apart for people to do both events if they wanted.

If you can save replays, is there a way to send it to someone through PSN to record and upload? I think it would be a good idea to have some replays up for documentation purposes (and proof since there isn't spectator mode).

I don't believe that will be possible. I think the best we can do is ask those who have capture devices or camcorders to upload their fights to youtube, then post them in the tournament results thread.

I wonder if photos off of the replay videos can count, like if I manage to borrow a camera that doesn't record video but can take pictures, taking like snapshots of the end of each round results with maybe K.O. or 1P/2P WIN on the screen (I think online will display PSN IDs on the top somewhere anyway, so that would further confirm the pictures to be legit.)
I don't know about the final round, though, if someone is finished with a super/neomax, the HUD disappears, unless the victory screen shows the PSN IDs somewhere, or maybe the "lobby" or whatever keeps Win Count, snapshots like that can help confirm who won.

I don't think replay sharing is allowed. I think you can only upload replays if you are like in the top 100, and that's just for ranked matches, I think. It would be nice if replay sharing is allowed, or like Smackdown vs. Raw 2010, you could directly upload replays to Youtube straight from the game itself! But I don't think the replay options have features like that, though it would be nice if replay sharing is possible somehow, that could make things a lot easier for those without video cameras or digital cameras/cables at all.

Yeah I'm sure it will be fine. But vids/screenshots help make the results more legit and tournament more exposed to the public, but that is natural to make vids/pics optional since not everyone has those resources. I'm still gonna try to borrow a camera though because it would make the matches better than just a statistic. ^_^
Do you have a backup plan in case for example, two players argue they won the match and neither has proof?
maybe both players are eliminated/disqualified and marked as a draw to ensure the liar doesn't progress (I'm sure the winner would be okay with that as long as the opponent who lost doesn't advance either.)? :)
There are a lot of tournament situations to consider and prepare for anyways, like people not showing up. Possible disconnection or incompatibility, forcing players to resign from the tournament or redo the match.

I've run quite a few online tournaments and have never had the issue of players lying about wins. I doubt we'll see that here. We'll be backing MTM up so things should run as smoothly as possible.

oh yea I'm sure it will go smoothly! It's just good to consider and plan ahead so solutions can quickly remedy any situation. :)
So when people report the match results, it's only sent/received officially and directly through that toolbar chat thing? Like what if two people on consoles (without PC access) finish their match and for whatever reason can't access the toolbar chat or forums, do they send their message across the PSN chat room they are in so someone else can report for them, no wait that doesn't make sense.
oh wait, PS3 has a browser, but I wonder if that is compatible with the toolbar chat thing, it isn't compatible with a lot of software and certain websites and the tool bar probably won't register on PS3 browser. Well maybe the forums can still work through that.

So far no one has said they have a problem with doing it so I can only assume everything is gravy. Unless, are you telling me using the toolbar chat is going to be a problem for you? The only reason I'm not telling everyone what the alternative to the toolbar chat is going to be is I don't want people abusing it. The moment you start giving people options they start doing whatever the hell they like and that makes it harder on me.
I actually do have a plan for all the things you mentioned so don't worry about it. I have been planning this thing for months now. I got this!

okay, I'll try to keep the PC on in the other room and transfer the cable after best 2 out of 3 matches results to try the toolbar chat method. :) Yea! I think I got this figured out thanks.
I'm having trouble connecting to wibiya chat, though. I try to sign in twitter and eventually it just has an error.

I have updated the rules yet again. I have decided to ban DLC characters since they are not yet available to everyone. I also decided to take Desmond's advice and use pms as the primary way to report wins/losses. However, I still want people using the toolbar chat for asking questions and other things. These should be the final changes (thank god).

Argh... I thought I would have my PS3 with me when this happened, but since I'm using my nephews PS3 atm, I'm a bit stuck. Since he will be playing it all day today, maybe at night I might have some matches, but I doubt you guys will wait for my matches to happen. =/
Sorry, I really wanted to play on this tournament, but stuff isn't working out. And tomorrow might be the same situation, since it's weekend and my nephew plays the PS3 a lot.

It's a shame the 360 tournament was cancelled. Ended up doing some casuals with SAB and DavidKong, though. Great matches. I know a lot of people aren't satisfied with the netcode, but it's certainly provided me with a lot of fun games.

Great tournament and matches! :) Some really explosive situations! ^_^ I think I did pretty good with Athena, King and Kula. Well okay, I admit I was doing better with King and Mai mostly. (King swapped with Mai or Leona if a match is lost.) I felt I was sloppy with Athena's zoning and Kula's setups. but that was nice catching someone with Leona's V slasher finish. There's so many options, and I think I burned meter like crazy. ( I did save it sometimes for 2nd round. at least in one occassion I had King spend no stocks so the 2nd fighter could have wider options.) xD yea I was getting predictable with the neomaxes. Nicely organized tournament, thanks Metal/render! :)

Actually you were disqualified. Just didn't have a way to fix it in the bracket program as far as I know.
