Hey! A bunch of us from dustloop meet up in Dallas(mostly in richardson, to be specific) to play fighters, and a bunch of us are interested in KOF13. Oldboy, Jet, Ronin and I will definitely play since we already enjoy KOF2002um, and i'm sure several others will learn the game.
Our most played game at meetups is Blazblue, but we also play tons of other stuff just depending on who's there. (Arcana, Guilty Gear, Third Strike, KOF2002UM, Street Fighter Alpha, Melty Blood, etc. etc)
Even if KOF13 has good netcode, if you're in the area you should come by to our meetups! Offline is awesome. We usually meet on friday or saturday(usually saturday), usually from 3pm-10pm. We usually meet at my apartment at the University of Texas at Dallas, but Frigid who is about 20 minutes away in Dallas proper also hosts sometimes.
Meetups are usually 6-13 people with 2-4 setups, just depends on who's able to come. We usually meet every week, but usually every 4th week or whatever nobody is able to host.

I'll be hosting the saturday after kof13 comes out, probably. Hope to see some KOF13 players from dreamcancel at meetups after KOF13 comes out! If you wanna come to an earlier meetup to maybe play some KOF2002um or non-snk, that works too.

BTW yeti, what games do you play? Oldboy and I will be there so we'll definitely do some KOF2002um if you'd like. I think the meetup's focus this weekend will be BB/AH3, though.

Discovering that all the Ragna combos I learned (and still trying to master) were changed kinda turned me off to the game. However, I am willing to give it another shot I suppose. I really love GG though I admit that I would be lying if I said I knew how to play it. My main focus has been on KOF, and I have been meeting up with Dark Geese (who lives out in Canton) to train up on that game. He's dying for some competition as well so I imagine I can get him to come along as well.
I suppose the bottom line of what I'm trying to say here is that I am interested, but I only just recently started playing fighters hardcore. Many of the games you mentioned I have played only very little so I won't be much competition for them. As long as you and the other guys there can respect that then I'm in (assuming family crap doesn't get in the way that weekend).

Glad you're nearby! I understand @ ragna thing. Anyway, people would being willing to teach/help you with whatever games, but you dont have to learn non-kof stuff if you dont want to. We usually have 1 setup per 3 people(i try hard to organize that, anyway) so chances are if there's 3 people up for kof then you can just play KOF.
Dont worry that you only started playing fighters hardcore recently. We have players who are fairly casual/new, we're a pretty welcoming scene. I'm relatively new too, I joined in late 2009.
If Dark Geese came to meetups, that would certainly be something.

We usually play 2002UM on 360. Jet has a japanese ps2 and we have played it on that before, but he hasnt been able to come lately, so oldboy and I have been playing 360 version. More convenient stick-wise anyway.
We play BB on whatever. Slight preference for 360 though when it comes to my place, since I dont have the DLC charas on my ps3 copy unlike on 360 and like 2-3 people play on 360 pad.
You should probably bring your own controller, especially if you play on stick. Also, I have converters that allow people to play ps2/ps3 pads, ps2 sticks, and ps3 Hori sticks on the 360, so that may end up convenient for you. (Before I had a ps3 I actually bought a PS3 HRAP 3 because it was cheap, to my liking, and worked with my converters!)

I have a ps2 and a copy of 2k2um for it, so that works too if you guys use ps2 sticks. we'll make it work.

That's cool. Saves me the trouble of bringing my ps2, which wouldn't be fun because it isn't modded so I have to use swap magic.
Edit: Dark Geese will indeed try to make it this Saturday. He'll bring his own setup and a bunch of games. He likes to record his matches, but I'm sure he won't record anyone who doesn't want to be.

I'll try to make it to the first weekend you guys play XIII since I'm not sure if it'll be the weekend of Thanksgiving or the weekend after. I'm not super great with my execution and I'm still trying to learn the basics so hopefully I'll learn a lot from this experience.

I don't think anyone's worried about getting their egos hurt. I was just worried we'd disappoint or something, but I'm pumped to learn from people who really know what they're doing in kof/snk games.

Oh yeah, i understand that. I wish I had recorded matches of my losses in BB/AH3, and i'd love that for XIII. But 2002um is not something i've really put time into(for various reasons) though its nice for getting used to KOF in general.
But yeah, with regards to that, pretty much what oldboy said. I'm excited that DG is going to be at meetups, that will really help us get good at XIII i feel.

Sounds good! We'll have a good time and help you get better. I'll be hosting either the 25th or 26th, but I wont be hosting the following weekend due to finals crunch time.

I'm afraid embedding is the dreamcancel way. But honestly I find the slowdown to be mild, even on my android.
I'm still a bit pissed about those matches that didn't get recorded. Not because I won them (though that is nice), but because they were the best I played all day. My training with DG finally seemed to be bearing fruit.
I know I said I wouldn't come this weekend, but I have gotten hungry for more competition. DG says he'll be there this weekend as well.

-Mixed news on KOF13 netcode. On one hand, it uses GSS, which was the netcode base for kof12. On the other, someone with decent knowledge said NGBC also uses GSS(and ngbc imo has the best non-ggpo netcode ever), and damdai(supercade guy) reportedly was hired by SNK To help with netcode. So, may be awesome.
MTMM, if you could ask darkgeese to bring a spare ps2 stick next time, that would be helpful...unless he's someone who got an early copy of kof13. :3

good meetup, only had metal/darkgeese/eric but it was good
no shoutouts this time, mostly played kof2002um, but got in more really good litchi vs carl with eric
did pretty well with kof2002um vs darkgeese for a while but he switched to a large variety of characters and i got blown up especially by his zoners and also goddd pressure from nameless and others.
was good experience though, hype for kofxiii, will be much less scrubby in that hopefully
had some fun light matches with metal in bb after eric/dg left
i had to use a fucking american bat stick for kof2002um though rofl, only ps2 stick they had but it wasnt too terrible. buttons were weird too though
still, good meetup. really hype for next week. dg will come saturday then. DAT KOF13

Glad to see another KOF player. If the GG players are around at a meetup you can certainly get that going with them. Sorry to hear you hate blazblue, maybe you just didnt try the right character :P (but nobody has to like any particular game at our meetups, just dont be vocal about other people's games) None of us play mortal kombat any to my knowledge, so I doubt you'd get to play that at meetups, but maybe im just unaware of interest.
If you can come this friday and/or saturday, that'd be good. Bring your controller.

Later today I'll be posting saturdays vids in the 02UM forum. We had some really good matches, but I admit that I let mightfo's zoning frustrate me. Even so I feel I did a helluva lot better this time. Stuff I have been working on is starting to come out. I'm excited to see what the future will bring.

eh, i dunno if you should do that, we're not really of a player level that good 2002 players would want to watch, though i dunno what kind of vids typically get posted there..
Dunno about what good 2002 players think, but I like watching all skills levels. Never know where you might find some inspiration from. Took a peek at some of them, and I could see the rough framework of good ideas. Execution and cleanliness of play was obviously lacking (though I'm hardly a maven in either category myself *laughs* ), and MTMM's zombie colors are painful to watch, but hey, it's a starting point to grow from.

For instance, most characters skin and hair colors are directly related. You will be seeing much better color edits from me in XIII.
As for the actual gameplay, I feel things are really moving along. My defense has gotten much stronger and DG tells me my reactions are much faster. My execution is still sloppy, but I got several combos to go off that I have been consistently failing to do. I still have a tendency to do stupid things out of desperation. Zoning is still a huge problem for me as demonstrated in my matches against mightfo.

and please bring your controllers, especially if you have 360 sticks since we'll have 2 360 setups and 1 ps3 setup which is not the usual and i only have 2 converters
though i might get someone with saiki/billy unlocked on their ps3 to bring their ps3 instead of oldboy bringing his 360 so that we have 1 360 setup and 2 ps3 setups

It wasn't so much that they looked off as just that I'm personally not a fan of zombie clown colors *laughs* . And yeah, I remember a lot of characters having really strangely linked colors in the old KOF color editors (like Iori's hair and pants).

Who all is going to TBF6? It is in Plano this time, like 15 minutes from my place or something like that, $5 venue, $5 bb, $5 kof13, saturday.

I'll host saturday the 17th, 3pm-10pm, usual stuff.
I'll host friday and possibly wednesday from like 2:30-8pm or something like that. People who want to go to Goons on those days could come by and then leave early for goons. Hopefully I'll be up for going as well one of those days.

SRK used to only have a fort worth meetup for a while, but now they have a plano place again now. They start later though, like 7ish, which is part of why we usually dont go there. But they play a decent amount of KOF now I hear?? It is close to my place. If you come by my place one of those days and someone who has been there like ronin does as well you could get directions easy and such.

Will the tourney this saturday have flame iori unlocked? I need a new second, kim isn't working out, and I would like to know if I need to practice with someone else before I go all crazy practicing a character that ain't gonna be available. I also plan on coming on the 17th. DG may come this weekend, but he said if he did he won't compete (thank god), though he may challenge the winner. I'll have to ask him about the 17th.
I wish things were working out with kim better. But last time I lost a bunch of matches that I had a heavy life lead on (dat Maxima!) because kim wasn't carrying his weight like my other 2 guys.

Yesterday was fun. However, I'm still pretty bitter about how I got eliminated. I never expected to get too far, but to be eliminated so early on by someone who I could tell I should have been able to beat really is depressing. I'll just have to do better next time.

it would be cool but i am too lazy to go about organizing it. if someone else wants to organize the ranbats then i would support it. you should consider a danisen format as well as an alternative. would probably be a decent idea.

Got the converter yesterday. Tested it with 02UM and VF5 and it seems to work flawlessly. Even with the ps2 controller that went haywire when hooked up to your converter. The final test will be when I use it on XIII.

the advantage of the danisen format(iirc from when this was talked about before in our scene) is that it wouldnt be as influenced by how regularly one can attend

god damn i am hype. Saturday is looking pretty big. At least 12 people, possibly 21 if everyone who has a decent chance of coming does so. Got at least 5 setups planned, 2 of frigid's, blackjack's, and 2 melty setups. As pfhor said, if you want to try melty, fucking do it, now's a great chance.(they'll have at least 5 melty players there saturday)

Yesterday was good. I finally managed to get maxima to land df+c, dp+k after landing a counter hit with his vapor cannon. Had really good matches with blackjack. I swear every one got down to the wire. Would have played him more but I lost all feeling in my ass from sitting on the floor.
I tried to learn a little melty, but didn't get very far cause I was using a stick. I'll plug a pad into that next time.

I'm only dabbling with mr. Karate a little for fun. Honestly I think he may be too OP for serious competition. That said, I won't hesitiate to use him on fireball spammers.

Comboing from hop-ins is just plain tough in kof. You really got to land your hit as close to the ground as possible for it to combo. It really just comes down to lots of practice. Sorry I don't have a better answer, but it's just one of those things that there's no quick and easy way to get it down.

Yesterday was fun. I had real crap luck with who I had to face in KOF. Seriously, one of them was nearly as good as DG the other I almost got one match but he was too good. I'm pleased with how well I was playing though, got several real combos to happen (not my usual BS halfway done ones), and I beat out a Clark on command grabs with my Maxima (which was damned satisfying). SCV I just plain botched. If only I had the time to practice it as much as KOF.
All in all it was a great day.

I'd like to point out that KOF had the most entries out of the non-capcom games. Can I get a round of "Hell Yeah!" for that? Also, the guy the got second in KOF was the first guy I had to face. I got the worst luck, but at the same time it's encouraging because I'm feeling like I'm getting closer to being able to compete with people like that.

Also, I am helping to open up a venue to play at and am definitely going to be looking for ways to bolster the community. Anyways, good too see there are more players than I thought!

What time are you guys playing this saturday? And where, at the same campus? I have been fiending for some kof play. I live in Carrollton so, reasonably close to the school. I typically just go to the gatherings posted in the facebook group and that one time I went it was posted up. You guys should really get in there!

Great meetup yesterday. I expected more people, but it still worked out. Lots of good KOF play going on. Pretty much everybody who's been playing seems to have improved. Seeing a lot more combos out of people.

I just discovered some shit about Shen that I'm sure Jet would appreciate. The truth is shen can't do much in the way of combos from low attacks, and he certainly can't combo into that overhead from a low. So if we avoid blocking low too often on edge's shen, we shouldn't have to worry about that move so much.
@Edge: You probably think I'm a real dick right now for exposing the answer to the one thing you have been doing that works. But I shall repay you by sending a pm with some real combos for shen and iori.

he can link crouching light kick into crouching heavy punch which chains into his forward light kick. so yeah, he can get damage, you just have to do a link(which is effectively 5f because of input buffer)

Though my BSing aside that doesn't sound bad as what your talking about is at least a legit combo, not spamming low jabs into random overhead. Also, the forward b is easy to spot so as long as you block the lows before it, then you got a fat and obvious window to switch to blocking high.
My whole point really is that I'm on to his bs so he needs to start being more serious if he wants to win. Also, I was bored so I felt like picking a fight

Great meetup indeed. Had lots of fun playing VF with Pfhor and Blackjack. Had a bunch of good matches in KOF with Moosejaw. Some of which were frustratingly close. Definitely made progress on learning how to get through him though.

I feel so shitty for placing last in KoF. The only game I've been actively practicing lately. Still it was an amazing tourney. I'm going to sorely miss Bar Fights when I move back to SD. Having a plate of hotwings and a beer while playing fighting games is always a good day in my book.

Evo brackets are finally up. Looks like my hopes to have a pushover for the first opponent has been squashed. Never heard of this guy, but I looked him up on youtube and saw him go against DandyJ for the grand finals of a minor tournament. He didn't look like anything special, but he's probably just good enough to beat me. On top of that my first match for SCV is against animefreak. I personally never met him, but I saw he got 3rd at SCV at TBF last saturday.

If you guys want to see something funny, go check the online replays for VF5FS (ps3). I uploaded a video of my Goh vs. another Goh. I lose the first 2 rounds only to have a major comeback. On the final round the other guy is so desperate to throw me that he tries 4 CONSECUTIVE TIMES alternating between high and low and I dodge all of them and land a perfect on his ass. Has to be seen to be believed.
On a slightly sadder note, I got whooped by a super scrubby Kage. It's depressing, so far I haven't seen a single Kage online that actually tries to play the character.

i just want to let ya'll know that we are probably going to go in on the persona fighter hard and if you have any interest whatsoever you should leap on that once it is at meetups. it supposedly has low execution so dont think of it as much of an investment of combo training. i really want to encourage a strong, healthy, non-whiny competitive scene for the game and really make it the dustloop DFW community's vanguard game. i will probably run danisens for it in september. whether i do the same for KOF depends on ya'll. i might get back into kof depending on how my tinkering with mature/chin goes in august.
plus it has kof and shorthops and kanji's folding chair, soo

@mightfo: persona was definitely a highlight for me at evo. You can count on me giving it a fair shot. I did in fact see the Answer playing it at evo. He seemed to be having a blast with it.
@jet: if you host I will come. Not going to the tournament for sure. No money for registration fees.

We're doing D-town Beatdown this saturday instead a normal meetup. There will be casuals! Bring a casuals setup, especially if you brought one to jet's! Signup and casuals start at 1PM and tourneys start at 2pm I think.
$5 venue fee, $10 entry fee per game. There's KOF, SC5, and Persona among the games.

Sunfish will host a meetup this saturday instead of jet/me, starting at noon and ending at 11pm. Text him regarding address and guest parking passes at 805-674-0262. He lives about 10 minutes away from jet.
Also, he says: " I've got 3 moniters + 1 xbox (possibly one more I can borrow from my roommate) + 1 ps3. If anyone can bring consoles / games it would be appreciated. I need some chairs too, my living room is pretty vacant at the moment, but I've got enough for like 8 people to actually sit down."
So yeah! Chairs, setups, copies of games appreciated. Please post or text me or whatever so we can keep track of number of people coming!

"Towing is turned off for guest parking for the meetup. I won't need to get you guys passes, so for anyone who sees this that is coming tomorrow. Guest parking is in the shopping district towards the Coit and spring valley intersection. If you're heading towards Coit, it's two turn-ins past my place, if you're heading towards the 75, it's the first turn in you can take. You'll see a big building that runs perpendicular to spring valley, guest parking is behind that. Not the best directions, so if you can't find it, just call/text me(805-674-0262) and I'll try and get you to the right place.
For the people bringing setups, you might wanna stop by my place first and drop off your stuff cause the walk is kinda far, or get in touch with me and I'll drive over and help you load stuff up.
Once you've made it to the parking lot, walk towards the apartment complex and turn left. Walk a little more, then go inside the gate and head that way until you've get to the second gate next to the pool. I'm the first apartment once you get through the second gate, it's right next to a pool, so if you don't see one you're in the wrong area. Good luck travelers!
Also, towing goes back into effect at 10, so plan on packing up before that so your car isn't towed. It's like $200 to get your car back."

Can't believe I missed this post earlier. I certainly don't plan to stop playing SC5 anytime soon, so you can count on me to always bring a copy.
As for Tekken Tag 2. I haven't got it yet. Think I'll wait for the wii u version for the extra content. Besides, I'm not really a fan of the game's mechanics. They never really felt right to me. Still playing DOA5 and VF5FS though.

It's not like I couldn't ask for a saturday off, but I would be missing out on almost $200 of overtime wages. Not really something I can afford to not do. Especially since in a few weeks we got christmas and new year's and I'll be getting less than full time hours those 2 weeks.
