Yeah, I know, seeing as I've already finished every route.  Gave me some good perspective.

Anyway yeah, playing KS...it gave me some much needed insight into everything.  Especially Rin's Arc.

kinda wanted to do lily or hanako's arc first but i ended up getting emi's doesn't really mater to me much i just wanted to play the game then worry about the other paths later

Almost everyone got Emi's path first, myself included.  To get Emi's path, there are literally two choices that trigger it.  If you do the right thing on both of them, it doesn't matter WHAT the hell you did earlier or what path you were on before, you automatically do Emi's.  However, if you miss either of the two choices, you can never get her.  It's just as easy to get her as it is to avoid her.

My opinion, the Order you should do...Emi>Shizune>Hanako>Rin>Lilly.

Lilly's is arguably the best arc with the overall best feeling all the way through, while I think Rin's is the best just as a general standpoint.  Emi's is a great start, and trust me, you'll want to get Shizune's out of the way asap.

seems about similar to the order a friend of mine gave me though he had lilly first and he also said and i quote "Bro Shizune's path is DILDOS"

Yeah it's really meh...and it ends really meh.  Like, it HAD something there they could've really gone off of, multiple things actually, and really brought the shit home, but they dropped the ball hard.  I'd say, get it done ASAP so you can just get that shit out of the way.  But yeah, ton of disappointment, and the ending...I did not feel happy at the end.

Nah, you don't need the Flowchart, except for maybe Rin's.  Her shit is annoying to get to.  Hell Lilly and Hanako's path is the same path except for the last choice which separates their routes.

Yeah but...yeah, I'm glad I played it.  I literally spent my entire Saturday just getting through 3 paths.  Took forever.  If you decide to read through everything, Lilly's can run up to 5 hours.

Saitsu is right. Lilly route is OP and Shizune route is Terry tier.

Saitsu is right. Lilly route is OP and Shizune route is Terry tier.

Meh...a bit better than Terry.  I'll go Joe without Stun combo tier.  Like I said, my problem with the arc is massive disappointment more than anything.  There were THREE plot points within the arc that could've easily been developed to be the main string for the path, and they just let them hang there and get absolutely no resolution.

Also, be sure to save whenever you hit a decision.  All it takes is one bad decision to throw you on a bad ending, and if you didn't save, congrats, have to go through everything again to get back to that point.

Thankfully, most paths aren't terribly hard.  Emi's is easy, hell it even has a fallback if you do fuck up.  Shizune's is also easy other than ONE annoying ass decision that was not really worded well in the answers though I probably should've paid more attention.  Lilly's is easy.  Hanako's is moderate, got to be a bit careful at times.  Rin's is a pain in the ass though.  You might need the flowchart for that one.

In Phoenix Wright terms.

Emi/Lilly = Winston Payne
Shizune = Klavier Gavin
Hanako = Miles Edgeworth/Franziska von Karma
Rin = DL-6 fucking Incident.

In terms of how annoying getting through the arc can be if you aren't hyper aware enough.
Title: VN General Thread
Post by: Xxenace on January 26, 2012, 08:07:14 AM
FUCK THE DL-6 INCIDENT I ACTUALLY PULLED MY HAIR OUT TRYING TO SOLVE THAT BY MYSELF

also i got emi's bad end (almost made me shed a tear) i saved at the decision point though even not looking at a flow chart i could tell i was gonna get the bad end for the choice i made
Title: VN General Thread

well actually i did it on purpose just to see what would happen i have a huge thing for random outcomes so i generally OCD about finding out multiple endings in games(of course i rarely ever like beating a game more than once so i look up missed endings elsewhere) dont worry though i got the good end too

and as of five minutes ago i finished hanako's good route and i have to say i enjoyed it  a lot of the stuff really hit home a lot more than i expected it to

also im need sleep took me like 6 hours to do the route i say it was worth it

also quick question can hisao actually die during any of the routes? the chart i found mostly  just states screwing up most of the routes places you in kenji's route

Uh, well if you fail to get any girl in Act 1, you do a Kenji route, where they have a MANLY picnic, he gets drunk, and falls off the roof to his death.  He cuts it close other times, other than that, you're good.

And again, stop putting off Shizune's...get rid of the route early.

Well how you feel after the bad endings usually rely on two things.  How emotionally attached you are to that character, and whether you got the good ending first.  Getting the good ending first usually softens the blow a bit.

Didn't know it was free.

Even so, you're wrong. I have several reasons for not being able to play this game.

1. Our computer is password-locked by my religious mother. This is why I usually spend all my time online at school or at the public library.

2. Even if I can somehow convince my mother to give me access to the computer, I'll never be able to get time to myself (no way in hell I'm gonna play this in front of others).

3. Even if I do manage to get time to myself, I probably won't even be able to figure out how to run it. I'm inept when it comes to computers.

alright finished shizune's arc at 7 hours on the dot  i dont think it was bad at all i just stayed kind of level through out the whole time and i prefer it over emi's. all thats left to do is check the bad ending  and then right after start lily's part

also and i dont know if this is true or not a friend told me that there was  a secret path i figured i hold off on it til after i do rins part i just hope he's not pulling my leg

He's talking about Kenji's path I assume.  It's not that big of a secret.

Also, 7 hours, geez, if Shizune's took you that long, Lilly and Rin's will eat you alive.  We won't be seeing you until Monday.

And AGAIN, I'd highly advise doing Rin's BEFORE Lilly's.  I wish I had.

The thing is, you're right, it wasn't...bad persay, but there were again, three plot points they could've easily went off of to make the arc great and they completely dropped the ball.  I'll list them in the Spoiler by importance from least important 1 to Most important, 3.
1. The fact that Misha is a Lesbian.  She brings it up for 5 minutes, never really mentioned again.  Uh huh, what the hell?  You'd think Hisao would press that issue a bit more.

2. The fact that Misha was freaking suicidal.  Okay, THAT should've raised a red flag.  Hisao probably should've mentioned to Shizune, yeah, winning back Misha's friendship is good and all, but push in the wrong way, and she might kill herself.

3.  Most importantly, and honestly something they definitely should've dealt with to avoid being Misha heavy (which it was, honestly the arc was more about Misha than about Shizune), was address the fact that Shizune's family is a bunch of assholes who don't really give a crap about Shizune's condition, her father especially.  Instead of working to help and support her no matter what, he constantly degrades her and all of her friends, tried to get tutors to get her to "speak right" when anyone with half a brain knows how hard that would be, and gives her a cellphone to use but never texts her to communicate.  He doesn't give a crap about his daughter at all, and while, yes I can understand the...hesitancy to do anything considering he's a very big, angry man with a katana in hand, it could've made a great plot point where Hisao has to learn to stand up for his loved ones no matter what.  They should've made it so Hisao would man up, and talk his condescending ass down.  Would've made it great.
I don't know, I didn't HATE the arc, it just disappointed in a lot of ways.  It had potential but it was a bit of a let down altogether.  Being level wasn't that great, since the portrayal of a normal relationship was done better in other arcs, Emi's in particular.  Plus, like I said in the spoiler, the arc turned a lot more Misha-centric than Shizune-centric.

You really get more out of it if you do the Bad Ends first. Tends to make everything more impactful that way. Maybe it's just me.

Probably, I wouldn't know.  I avoided the bad ends like a plague (by avoid, I mean I tried to get the good ends...and happened to get all of them first try except for Hanako's, for whom I got her Neutral End first try).

1. after playing shizune arc i did fell that it wavered way to much between trying to be about misha or shizune which is generally why i wish they had there own separate paths though that might have been hard since misha doesn't really have "visible" disability

2. i try not doing bad end's in this game first because they honestly make you feel like the biggest jackass in the whole planet ive only seen emi's and hanako's and i felt like shit after seeing them

3 i found some awesome tf2 sprays

1.  Yeah, I noticed that, which is why I wish they would've taken at least one of the 3 ideas I mentioned and ran with them to develop some separation.   As for Misha's disability...there's some rumor going around that...
The developers had initially had Misha's backstory as being placed within Yamaku by her parents upon discovering that she was a lesbian.  Guess they reigned back on that.  While that could've easily fit a story on its own...considering that this is also essentially about dating, it'd be kind of hard to do so for obvious reasons, so I guess they went back on it to try to give more focus to Shizune.  Too bad they forgot to add more stuff for Shizune to offset it.
Also, there's a college professor actually going to write a conference paper on this game and thinks it worthy of a study.  I personally think that's freaking amazing, and think we should do something to contribute.

http://ks.renai.us/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5462 (http://ks.renai.us/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5462)

That's the thread, but it's best to suggest to not answer these questions until you know...you actually complete all the paths.

I figure we can all write our responses here, then maybe one of us can compile them all and deliver it over there.

EDIT:  Also, side note...Skullgirls has officially entered Beta.

Mostly because I'm debating whether to make it solely a KS thread, or turn it into a thread about Visual Novels in general.  Plus if we did make one, I would want a mod to try and move most of the KS discussion on this thread over to the new thread.

I'm not a global moderator, so I don't think I have rights to move things around in the Social Club section. I can ask nilcam, though, if you'd like to make it happen.

I would also suggest just making it a VN general thread.

EDIT: Looks like I was able to do it myself. Feel free to rename it to whatever you'd like.

KS is not hard at all to run, I suck with them and I got it to work easily.  It's literally, download and play.

Hmm. I guess I'd better get help from someone with know-how on computers. I don't really want to delete it just because I can't run it. Also, I got it from Megupload (R.I.P.), so I don't think I'll be able to find it so easily.

If you don't care about art, try Umineko no Naku Koro ni. It's mystery/supernatural horror, but it's got interesting plotlines and characters. There's even a fighting game based on it. The series itself is rather long since there are 4 major story arcs spanning 8 VN's.
