Title: The King of Fighters XIII Home Port Wishlist
Post by: Homies Over Shotos on October 29, 2010, 10:08:17 AM
I've noticed that so much of the stuff gets posted in other topics, and we should really unify it to one topic.  This is my last post, but with some refinements and a bit more elaboration.

1.  Great online gameplay.  Netcode that works, but with the KOF XII features like
*Clan Battles with six people playing one person per character.
*Clans need to return.
*Clans need to be able to wager their clan points with other clans for who's the best
*Replay area where the best replays are uploaded.
*1 v 1 online play.  There's lots of people from other camps that still want this for online games.
*Add a region setting for areas such as letting us know what country people are from, and if in the US what *area they're in "West coast, East Coast, Central and so forth."  Possibly by state.  Show ping too.
*Titles like Street Fighter 4.  People love these.  But instead of just unlocking them, make them purchasable by points you get from winning people online.  Also add those weird icons that Capcom also makes and make those purchasable by points.
*Rage quitters lose points and when they hit 10%, need a crybaby icon
*Online Ratio mode for people who want to put variety in their game
*Tournament mode with forced ratio system

2.  Training mode options
*Each character has their own training mode which includes how to do special moves, DM's, combos, neomaxes, blowbacks, block strings, cancelling and situations on how to use the moves.  This will ensure that more then six people are used.

3.  Media section
*Along with the titles, and icons we need a media mode.  This will be an area to unlock art, music, voices, possibly interviews and the concepts of how KOF evolved from 12 to 13.  Or the history of KOF.  The points gained from winning online battles and beating arcade mode or versus offline battles in general will be used to unlock this stuff.

4.  Fanservice
*Classical music tunes like the KOF music from 96 or 98.  Perhaps after some time, unlock a Garou Mark of the Wolves Terry or that 98 Iori that was shown as garbage data.  Of course this could be later after a lot of work.

5.  Fully fleshed out storyline
*Though it's a fighting game, there are people who actually do play it for the storyline, and Blazblue mopped up with this.  King of Fighters has a rich history and lots of storyline to it.  Besides the team story that goes in arcade mode, some more detailing could go in story mode and even have a single character mode to show their individual stories.

I think game should have some good offline modes too. A lot of casual players don't like to play internet because they aren't so good, and prefers play mode story, mission mode, trials mode, survival, etc. I think these modes are important too.

Some extra escenarios and maybe 2 or 3 extra characters could be cool. And alternative palettes like Raiden, Mr.Karate, Yuri ponytail, etc. for the of the cast via DLC could be a nice way to make money (like alternative outfits for SFIV)

You're right on offline modes.  I was thinking about that and I'd put stuff like this in.

Challenge Mode:  Do certain stuff to win the fights, "win in 20 seconds" or "finish them with a neomax" or "Only combos past four hits do damage" that sort of thing.

I already addressed storymode though.  I'd see the offline modes like this

Arcade
Story
Survival
Time Trial
Challenge Mode
Media mode

New Characters I wonder if it's feasible.  Alternate Palates could be good if they can churn em fast enough, but the fact they have to hand draw all of this makes it seem like newer characters are a better investment.

Arcade mode has challenges built in to each fight. For example, when the round starts, there is text at the top that says something like combo 2 lights. These get harder as the match progresses. In order to get the best ending, the player has to complete the challenges.

Edit: I didn't know the ending was determined by points. The arcade attendant at UFO told me it was tied into the challenges. Oops.

I agree with everything in the first post. I would like them to add more voice acting, in dialogues , endings, etc.

*Tournament mode with forced ratio system

I'd just like to say that I'm totally opposed to this idea. It's one thing for players to implement a ratio system to encourage variety, while it's another thing entirely for the developers to assign values to their characters. If they think the game is imbalanced enough to require that, why don't they just re-balance it?

Developers adding a forced ratio system just smacks of laziness to me.

I'd argue that individual stories don't fit in KOF, because the story is about a team-based fighting tournament. For me, team stories are what make KOF what it is.

As an alternative, I'd suggest a simple profile mode where you can see each character's sprite, alternates, and read up on each character's backstory. Also, perhaps they could add a tracker for keeping track of what intros and win-quotes you've seen for each character.

Arcade mode has challenges built in to each fight. For example, when the round starts, there is text at the top that says something like combo 2 lights. These get harder as the match progresses. In order to get the best ending, the player has to complete the challenges.

In order to get the good ending, you just need to clear stage 6 with over 2.5 million points. The challenges don't have any direct influence over that. All the challenges do is give you more bar and drive meter, which is quite nice, as it allows you to do more combos. (Actually, the challenges can also add 10K to your score, but it still only indirectly affects the ending.)

Also, there isn't a great deal of variety in the challenges (there are eight total), and it isn't character-specific. I'd say there's certainly room for a 98UM/2002UM/XI/MI2 style challenge mode. In fact, I'm hoping for one.

fuck a ratio system, they better balance the shit for console release. only 4 characters need some sort of balancing imo, k, raiden, lizzy & kula. for the rest the game is already fair. game should have all options available for modern fighters. all bugs & glitches need to be gone. maybe a team or 2 extra just for console release. that would really be the icing on the cake. yamazaki, oswald & mary or anhel. 96 boss team would be fucking dope as well.

If I were SNKp I would insert a game library with 98 and 2002 UM. It would be like " We are sorry for what happened with XII there you go have fun."
Both of the games are ready for consoles, no additional work is needed and it will be a nice gesture especially to PS3 people.

But it would also be ripping off the people who bought them on XBLA, especially since 2k2UM would have come out several months prior.

Well I bought 98 UM for like 10 bucks so I don't mind. I don't feel that way. I'd be more than glad to have it again with a good netcode.

If I payed 60 bucks then I would feel ripped off.

SNK doesn't need to apologize for XII just because everyone shat all over it.  I happen to enjoy XII and CCs for that matter!!
(Don't get me wrong, though, XIII is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better!!!!!!

My wish list (other than what has already been said) for the console port would be any of the following characters:

Duck King
Blue Mary
Oswald
Momoko
Team Garou: MOTW (Maybe replace Gato or B. Jenet for Hotaru [TIZOC FTW!!])
CYS (Mature and Vice are back, so...)
Angel
Chang
Choi
Billy Kane
Yamakazi
Vanessa (and company if necessary)

Okay, okay, never mind, I guess I just want everyone lol

Most of the people don't complain about the fighting mechanics but for the shitty online code on a 60 bucks game. Anyway already forgotten xii and cannot wait for 2002 UM on xbla and XIII. Moving on

My characters wish list is:

John Crawley ( I guess I can dream)
Oswald
Iori 98

I also don´t agree with a forced ratio system.
About a classic Iori, well....I am a Iori player since day one so of course I would love that.
But I am not so sure they are gonna do it. Maybe they just wanna wait for the next game to do that (since acording to the storyline he got the magatama back), and then or in a future dream match just put the 2 Iori's in the game.
I would love to have a Garou Terry, in fact, I like it more than the original. But I can understand why they went back to the old Terry with XII, I mean, it is a classic.
I am still wondering if there will be secret characters, since this time they have to make it back from scratch.

You're right on the forced ratio.  That's why I said tournament only mode not for ranked or player matches.

Good point.  I'd pay to have 98UM with good netcode.

As for the fixed ratio system, people hate that.  Capcom tried it with CvS 1, and that was one of the biggest complaints that people had about the game.  Making it optional like CvS 2 might be cool.  98 Iori would be sweet.  Maybe just call him EX Iori or something since I doubt ROTB Iori will be used anytime soon.  I'm really not asking for anything huge for consoles.  I don't care about extra characters too much (the cast list is good as is IMO).  My main hope is for playable netcode.

1. Netcode that isn't fail, along with what have become standard FG online features including Lobbies, Replay recording, and a non-retarded ranked mode.

2. 3-5 more characters, Including but not limited to:

98 Iori
Geese (Non-Broken)
Rugal (Non-broken)
Billy Kane
Yamazaki

3. A healthy helping of offline content to keep the casuals playing.

4. Nerf Raiden's dropkick and Betty's AA.

5. Fix the remaining bugs.

Oh, and for the love of god NO RATIO!  No.  No.  NoNoNoNoNoNo.  There's a reason why CvS1 had it - the game's balance was horiffically broken.  Remember CvS1 Nakoruru...*shudder*.

DLC charater(though rebalancing the games gonna be anoying)
Rock
Nameless
Whip
Lucky Gambler(LOL)
Kim's kids
IDk some older AOF,KOF charaters

Alterntive costumes

I would like a tornment mode.
Good netcode

Isn't rock to young at the time of this?  Nameless is dead from 2k1, Whip who cares about whip?  Lucky is probably playing Basketball somewhere being a homie with Heavy D and Brian Battler.  Though I'd love to see that sports team come back.

Kim's kids?  Are they even old enough to be teenagers at this point in time?

I'd rather have balancing and fully fleshed gameplay modes then new dlc characters.  Though They can't introduce characters one at a time either.  They have to be introduced in teams.  So ten dollars per team?

Besides the #1 thing of having a fantastic Netcode.

Fix the rest of the known bugs.

Nerf Raiden's dropkick.

Online Matchmaking where it will always find the best connections first.

A strict system to punish rage quitters.

SF4 style play arcade mode and a new online challenger will come face you and fast, not like BlazBlue CS style where it takes forever.

Create your Own Custom Character Colors, those Arcade colors are ok, but not good enough.

Alternate Costumes, I want Liz to have a boob window like before. If they can give Takuma a Mr. Karate Mask and Raiden have no shirt and have his mask off, they can do that for Liz.

Easy button configuration kinda like how BlazBlue CS has it where you easily hit a button for that specific button which only takes a couple of seconds. Great for tourneys.

1.  Yeah netcode is number one.

Nerfing Raidens drop kick can come in two flavors.  Lower the total amount of damage it does and keep the charge time OR keep the damage it does BUT make the charge times significantly longer making it a far bigger trade off.

2.  I don't really trust games finding the best connection, I'd rather have a ping list which shows distance, where they're from and their ping.  That's optimal to me.  The red yellow green bar thing is crap.  I rather read ping and where they're from "like say they're from the us west coast"

SF4's online arcade mode is great.  But that would not lead to finding the best connections.  You're right on the Blazblue CS taking forever though.  Waiting minutes for a ranked match should be banned.

Custom character colors?  Isn't that where everyone made the nude skins for many fighting games?

no easy buttons or simple configs. If that must be put in, then don't allow them in ranked games.

Custom character colors?  Isn't that where everyone made the nude skins for many fighting games?

They can do what Soul Calibur 3 and 4 did, they just avoid having the "Skin" colors as selectable while changing certain parts colors. Taki was the one that they were sure to make that feature a must, so I don't see a problem with that.

I really with there was a online training mode, having a friend and your just training without losing points or losing a round will help make great combo videos and learn new things from each other.

But as mentioned, have more alternative pallets so you can experiment with the sprites, I bet there is a way to make it work. I was surprised they didn't do many things for certain characters, like why not have a K with one color for his jacket and one for his pants? I know he has one but the colors are horrible. Anyways, we need custom colors or at least more options.

Who cares about "naked" characters without nipples and genitals? It's like getting upset about a naked Barbie doll, although I don't doubt there are people who have been upset by that.

I'd be more worried about people making all-white, all-black or just random loud colors edits. Edits that actually make it harder to play the game due to the the eye strain it causes.

Anyway, the easiest solution to both problems is just to include an option to turn off custom colors in online matches. Or only allow them for matches with your friends. Or whatever.

I think the bigger challenge to including custom colors is just how complex these sprites are compared to their NeoGeo predecessors. The typical NeoGeo sprite had about 15 colors, while these probably have around 30. It would be a bit simpler than in XII, since each sprite no longer has personalized lighting/shading details. (Which I sort of miss, since it was a great detail, but I'm getting off track.)

Alternatively, they could have a "select a color" editing system, where you can change specific parts of a character from among 10 choices. For example, the color of Shen Woo's pants from among any of the 10 varieties already made. This way, the shading is already done and people will have a harder time creating monstrosities. A bit less freedom, though.

Here's one wish I'll contribute to this thread. I hope that the console version comes with only the first four colors unlocked, and completing arcade mode/challenges/whatever unlocks one more color for that character. Instant replay value added with minimal work on SNK's part.

SNKP should see what Arc System Works did with BB CS and based the game around them (except the online matchmaking)

2 types of challenges, BB style (with 10 challenges for character where you learn combos from basics to advanced) and KOF style (showing some mechanics of the game, even though better explained than in 98UM or 2002UM, and some silly yet funny challenges like the ones in 2002UM)

The training mode in blazblue continuum shift is perfect, has everything

SSF IV arcade style will be a good idea too

Some tutorial for begginers like the one used by  Dandy J, or like blazblue will be good too

If they add more characters, I want to see them balancing the game, and hopefully, than an arcade upgrade will be available for them too

Color edit will be cool, but like rex dart said, they should make it a little restringed. Alternate customes is something that I would never hope to happen (there was a big effort with the ones present in KOF XIII, even though all of them are headswaps, it will be a much different story if they tried to change the clothes for everyone)

New stages will be cool too, even though I hope that those new stages are on 2D and not on 3D.

And that's all, even though with a good netcode and some balancing I will not had any problem

Agreed on the netcode, and practice mode. The colors, seems like SNK has given us a lot of choices already. Unlockable colors may or may not work; I suspect newcomers might want to play with more characters considering how they look versus what they can do.

Stages - just the Russian one from 12, since that is the only one I didn't see make it over to 13.

Challenge mode(s) is/are probably necessary, despite what's already been done with the Arcade mode.

Extra characters - Adelheid, Oswald, Malin (not on the same team), and a TFTP team (Botan, Shroom, Rimelo). That's one thing I was really hoping for.

Lastly, some kind of mode to explain how the story has progressed to this point. At the very least, explain the beginning and middle of the Ash saga for people who don't know what's going on ('03 & XI). At most, go over each saga and explain where most characters fit in.

yashiro, chris and shermie (ESPECIALLY their orochi versions)
vanessa
blue mary
rock
geese
yamazaki
heavy d
billy
shingo (just because :P)

I'll update this if I think of anything else

Oswald

a  tftp team would be a waste.

How so?

To make 3 new character at the end of a saga, that PROBABLY won't appear in the next one, would be kinda sad.

If their story is to continue somehow (just as how the NEST and Orochi saga have characters who are still around), then it could be worthwhile, however. I'd love to see a playable Boton.

------

Anywho, I'd love it if the games home port added in a bunch of the "missing" stuff, such as more elaborate time out poses, alternate winposes/winposes after neomax for each character, better taunts for a few characters, A few more EX DMs/Specials/Command normals for characters that could use them, Alt designs/Color palettes for a few more/all characters, some more "special team" ending illustrations, and maybe, just maybe, a new character or 3. (It'd be fantastic if they did a "Fans vote" team, but instead, say, make the favorite character of the UK, US, and Mexico, for example)

My Dream port option would be for each team to have a mini-game made to present their backstory in this saga/the series, much like the neo-geo pocket CapVsSNK had minigames, or for a more recent game, the JP version of Tatsunoko VS Capcom. Make them single stage/screen, score based, leaderboard-friendly throwbacks to Neo-Geo games of old, kinda like the cellphone games SNKP has in Japan, and we'd have a nice way to increase value, pull in new fans, treat old fans, and keep the game played/talked about, even when it's not about the fighting action.

KoF needs to bank on it's personality to solidify itself. Just like Aksys did with BB. So it'd be great to see the UI really character based. Have Iori's band, the Psycho Soldiers, and CYS randomly playing the music on the soundtest screen. Use voice samples for mode selections (Terry screaming "OK!" when you select a mode, Sie screaming for Nikuman's when selecting extras, etc.)

The biggest problem of XII was that it didn't feel like a full product to many people. Compare it to MI, and how successful it was in the states. Look at how much enjoyable extra content those games offered. MI series is probably the best blueprint as to how to make KoF and SNKP into a more well known brand/company.

It'd be great to see another NeoGeo Arcade stage like the one in MI2, for that matter; Every character your fought brought with them a classic theme from various neo-geo games. It'd be great to have something similiar in XIII.

Don't really care for the bells and whistles (story, extras etc) so all I would really like is a good port, fast load times, great online and a good practice mode (with a record function).

What would be nice from a consumer perspective is a KoF Back Story detailing the events of the previous KoF Tourneys.

Other than that:
- Good netcode
- Practice mode with record functionality
- Color Edit would be nice
- Ability to save offline and online replays

@ SAB-CA ...for all that to happen... SNK would need the help of a bigger company's cash like capcom... SNK just doesn't have the $$ for all of these...

but yes it would be awesome to see an overkill package for KOF games... BUT that might also make them SELL OUT... so after all i like my SNK the way it is... even with all this new technology KOFXIII still gives the feel of old school... something that capcom lost by greed of $$...

A great net code would be the best (ok its obvious i know) then you can add some cutsy stuff (even on dlc i don't mind) but actually i would buy it no matter what.
I would love to see the orochi team but don't think thats gonna happen (o.chris <3).

view friends last replay like sf4 vanilla

training mode while you are waiting for an online match (like sf4 arcade mode)

*Hello. I've been lurking on the forums for a while now. Decided to make an account out of boredom*

Anyways, a good netcode goes without saying really. It'll definitely be the 'make or break' factor for this game. A good training mode would be great. Put in Survival Mode, 1 VS 1, and some other stock-standard fighting game modes, of course. An Edit Mode for character colours would be nice, but it's not really needed due to the insane amount of palettes available for each character.

SNK should really aim to continue supporting the game for a while (atleast 6-8 months really) regarding balance + possible DLC content. Although, I really don't think much has to be changed barring the top 4 (mainly K' and Raiden's dropkick, Kula and Liz would only need minor tweaks imo). My suggestions for them are roughly the same as everyone elses, so I won't bother posting them.

As for new characters...I would like to see a tftp team. You can tell that SNKp initially wanted to have one, due to their unveiling in the early trailers. If we were to get such a boss team, I'd predict that it'd be Mukai-Botan-Saiki (before absorbing Mukai). Also, yeah, they probably wouldn't appear in the storyline after 13, but they could still appear in dream match games (every 4th game in the series seems to be a dream match title. since KOF14 is the 4th game since 2002, I assume it'll be a dream match title) Other teams & characters I would like to appear in the home port:

Billy-Yamazaki-B.Mary
Vanessa-Ramon-Seth
Chang-Jhun-Choi
Adelheid [single entry]
Shingo [single entry?]
Shion [secret boss]
Brocken [secret boss lol]

Probably not all of the above, but some of them would be nice. As much as I would love to see the Krauser-Geese-Mr. Big team return, that ain't gonna happen lol

1) Have a better netcode
2) Good story mode(kinda like BB)
3) Balance Raiden drop kick and etc
4) More colors and if possible DLC chars
5) A better practice mode and Challenge/trial mode

Besides the obvious like good netcode, balance K, Raiden, Liz, give us some few new characters, i would really like them to let your team stand in the background and emote etc like they did in all the KoFs up to 98. I would also like if there is a draw game on your last two characters to go to a sudden death with those two like in KoF 94'

Just give me Gai Tendo, Billy Kane, Vanessa, Heavy D!, Eiji, Geese, Mr. Big, and Gato...

Ok, good netcode, a good replay mode, indepth training mode/tutorial, and a bunch of unlockables (gallery, icons, etc.)

Just give a good netcode and if possible an extra team that would be great but they could also buffed some of the characters that would help a lot to make the balance better.

Also, though I don't know much about Botan, I think she deserves to be playable. Maybe you can fight her before Saiki in Arcade Mode.

My favorite charaters I would like to see are Xiao Lon, Shion, Vanessa, Lin, Jhun Hoon, Luise Meyrink, Angel, Shermie, and Eiji. Most of my favorites probably won't be added. I would need Mature added to a third member along side with Andy and Leona.

man at least half the cast of kof 97 was beast. i remember killing people with yamazaki in the arcades back when people didnt even know wtf yamazaki was all about. to this day, i still havent seen anybody use yamazaki as a rush down monster like i did back in 97/98. most people zone and turtle with him. i used him stricktly as rusher with the zoning as a tool not as the main gameplan, cause that was to
rush the shit out ya. 97 mary was like the rest of the overpowered high tier cast, too damn strong.

p.s. my skills in kof must have detoriated a shitload though, not having played seriously in like 9 or so years. simple combos that i used to nail 100% of the time are hard to do now (for instance marys double  ;c into  ;fd ;a cancelled int  ;bk ;fd ;b and finisher. its either the kb or my skills really gone down the drainer. kof without flawless execution is low tier. pme pf my maion strengths was never dropping shit and always achieving max damage for each situation (how kof at highest level is played imo).

if we could get 2 teams extra that would be fucking awesome. 1 new face team feautiring botan, and a classic team team with at least yamazaki and oswald in them, perhaps mary or somebody else in the mix.

I'm sure we all will start to seee info about KOFXIII's console version in next year.

About that idea of record a Tech Ref. for each character with all his/her stuff such as combos, etc. i totally support it. I would loved to see this for Mai, but never happened. Even snk HK released combo movies for all characters except for Women Team and Psico Soldiers Team. sad...

i would love mary in KOFXIII as DLC, but probably she will be more completed than Mai or King and that's gonna make me get anger... They should work more in some current characters of the game before add new ones as DLC.

97' Yamazaki was OP. I would love to see him in XIII I think he would fit in perfectly specially with the HD system, however maybe his 02' version thou it's more balanced but still really good.

I know we are proly going to see more about the console release next year, but what I'm worried about is that the new people who were considering crossing over from other games will lose interest for lack of news by then since they will proly be over hyped by this other new games.

I would love to see my favorite Real Bout character Yamazaki. I feel Yashiro, Chris, & Shermie would fit in well in KOFXIII. Yashiro's Jet counter, and Upper Duel in Hyper Drive would look cool as hell IMO.

Truth is, the ppl that do lose interest probably wouldn't have stuck around long enough anyways.  Something that small that'll sway them would probably make them just casual players; we need players that want to learn and get good at the game.

I feel you kane & Answer, thats what my post earlier was somewhat regarding to.

If we do get a new team, I'd think the B. Mary-Billy-Yamazaki team has a very high chance of getting in there. They're all supposedly popular characters (although admiteddly, I've never heard anyone say "hey, I'm a Billy Kane fan" lol. He's a cool dude, but still...) and SNK seemed to like them enough to put them in several games.

Haha, I think we have all had your dream of a dream match in these graphics and gameplay.  It would just be TOO glorious.  (NAMELESS IN HD WHERE YA AT!?)

Anyway, the reason I chose that passage from your post is because I hope they at least have Kusanagi and have his face drawn as he looks in his 2002 UM portrait.  If they can do it for Raiden / Big Bear why couldn't they do it for Kusanagi?? (And they'll be doing the same thing for Shingo anyway as he WILL return [unless he gets a Takuma-style revamp and gets his own new body!!])

Hey, I'm a Billy Kane fan.

I stand corrected then xD

edit: Don't get me wrong, I'm a Kane fan too. He was my fave. character to use in the Fatal Fury games. It's just that I've heard people say "I'm a B. Mary fan" or "I'm a Yamazaki fan", but never Billy Kane. I thought it was kinda wierd...nice to see another Billy Kane fan though lol...

@sibarraz: I kinda liked Malin in the Anti-Kyokugen team :/ the only other people they could add are...Ryuhaku Todoh, though they'd have to flesh him out (only has one special in AOF lol) or Lee Pai Long - who's a bit of a stretch 'cos he doesn't even have any sort of hate against Kyokugen, but him and Takuma seem to be rivals, I think.

@sociald & JTSNOW6 : At the very least, XIII Kyo, from what I've seen and heard, plays like Kusanagi in KOF 2k2, so unless any big Kyo changes happen, I don't think Kusanagi will be back. Although, as you implied, SNKp might be tempted to make a clone Kyo team again, since they could just palette swap Kyo, and then change up his moves from there.

I hope Shingo comes back though. I actually preferred him to Kyo, gameplay-wise...
Title: Re: The King of Fighters XIII General Discussion Thread
Post by: SAB-CA on December 22, 2010, 06:23:56 PM
I wouldn't mind seeing Shingo with his own old moves + A few '98 Kyo chains. I really enjoy playing Shingo in general, so to see him grow + use it as a way to satiate those who want 98 Kyo back, would be fairly slick. (Him + Traditional Iori = All useful forms of Kyo/Iori in one updated KoF).

If there is a new team or 2 in the home release, I really wouldn't be suprised if some of the characters were skillful clones, like Vice/Mature, Ralf/Clark, and Joe/Hwa. Though I'd hope to have some really original members of their team (Such as Boton, or Oswald... or Jubei Yamada!) to offset this. I'm not a fan of clones, but SNKP's are noramlly pretty worthwhile, so I don't mind them nearly as much.

@SAB-CA: Shingo Kick. All day, every day.

And you're probably right about the skillful clones thing. But yeah, the clones in KOF usually aren't as 'clone-y' as they are in other games. What such characters are there that they could use though? There's Shingo...Normal Saiki could be a simple headswap if they decide to do that...erm...I can't think of any others :/

And was Jubei Yamada the old due who threw crackers at you? If so, yes please. He was awesome.

@JohnCrawley: I really do hope SNKp does this eventually. In the recent games (barring XII), they seemed to have brought in atleast one surprise character (in XI, it was a whole bunch of them, i.e. Gai, Silber, a Garou team, etc) and John Crawley seems like a simple enough design to build up on.

@THE ANSWER: Kevin would be cool too. You can never go wrong with Garou characters...

That's the problem with john, is just.. too simple, I couldn't see it working in this time

Hell, imo all  the characters in AOF who had decent to good designs had already make it to KOF, maybe todoh is the only one who needs to debut soon, but the rest of the characters are too... boring

And lol, now I remembered the random as hell cameo of Jin Fu Ha as an commentator in KOF XII, without saying a word

If SNKp really has extra characters planned for a console release, I'd say let it be more Ash saga characters (Oswald, Malin, Momoko), (Botan, Rimelo, Shroom [Those From the Past]), (someone, Rose, Adelheid). I'm kind of hoping these are down-the-line downloadable characters, meaning less to delay the console release. I know most would rather not have to pay extra for additional characters like lots of other fighters, but these are fighters would be worth it to me.
Title: Re: The King of Fighters XIII General Discussion Thread
Post by: Adnan on December 22, 2010, 08:10:23 PM
@sibarazz: I always thought of it the other way - he has enough potential to become a good character.

I'd laugh, isntead of bringing Whip back, the put Lenny in instead xD

@solidshark: Good point. I'm sorta expecting Adelheid to be there, since his sister 'randomly' hosted another tournament. A lot of people seem to want Oswald back in, although I'm not sure what team he'd be in (he could be a single entry, I suppose...).

I really want a TFtP boss team of Saiki, Mukai, and sexy Botan to appear. Or atleast a non-Ash boss =_=' You can tell from the initial trailer that more TFtP characters were planned to be in, but didn't make it to the final game. Of course, as you said, they shouldn't delay the game too much...

Yea, I feel that if they most likely would add characters it would be from the Ash Saga. Like Oswald, Malin, & Momoko. Furthermore,  I think Oswald has a high chance of being in since Oswald was Shen Woo's, and Ash's teammate in the past.

My two wishes:

a) Best possible netcode so I can play this game without having to travel, which I don't have the opportunity to on the weekends due to work

b) More rebalancing, to improve the game- which then gets ported to the arcade.

As for extra chars: I'd love Billy to be in.

An extra I'd really, really love: the 98UM remix on the disc as a bonus.  I'd pay the full price for that alone.

He's simply too sick to omit from future installments!!

- All the new characters from the Ash Saga to be playable. That means Oswald, Malin, Momoko, Adelheid. It only makes since for them to be in since XIII is the conclusion. Also, a playable Botan would be awesome.

- Gallery

This is all I want added to the game.

This idea just popped in my head about a month or two ago, and this kinda pertains mainly to cats that don't have many people to play against or train with locally... There should be an option for an online training mode!!! Let's face it, many training modes give the option for player 2 to jump in to test some things out, but there are times where "player 2" isn't available, and not all fighting games have the "record function"... And even if there was a record function, you technically would be practicing on a situation you're controlling not because of a trap or setup per sé, but because you told the computer to do this... Record functions do have their purpose and I'm not bashing that at all (I love that ability)... I'm just saying that if you wanted to try out a setup, trap, mixup, whatever, it would be kinda cool to just hop on training mode, and invite that homeboy/homegirl of yours to jump in, and just start testing crap out... You might even get different (maybe better) results...

Now I am aware that local training mode would be better than an online one due to lag and the "lagicities"(tm) of it all... I'm just saying there should be a training mode, with the option to invite someone, or even a few people to spectate to see if they know something that works and they want to see it tried out... I know in other fighting games, I might be training, and a buddy of mine comes through, and they want to try something out, so they go in and I set the cpu to controller, and we might battle for hours, which ultimately helped our defensive/offensive skills, but we might come across or come up with something that we did know 5/10/20/50 mins ago... This same ability should be accessable to people across the state/country from each other and might produce the same result hopefully... That might be too much, but it could definitely help out the scene for the better, especially since KOFXII had that lobby system for 6 players... It would be kinda dope to see training mode evolve into something bigger and better, and in turn upgrade the level of play for people nationwide...

If this ran on for some reason, my bad... I just remembered this and didn't want to forget, so I kinda just started typing...

I don't know why, but special intros in XI are my favorites since they seem to be the more elaborated, that being said, they killed the father of all special intros (GEEEEEEEEEEESE!)

Even thoug in 2002um there are some ones with some obscure references that are really cool too
Title: Re: The King of Fighters XIII Home Port Wishlist

I think dialogues are a very nice addition. I would like to have intros animations again for future KOFs but I hope they keep these dialogues too, I love them.

Intros were cool, but at the end all players press start to start the fight and the most of times we don't see that intros anymore. And we should keep in mind that animate this game is not the same like animate a 3D game... Just one animation is about days of work, while one animation in 3D is about a few hours or less...

Man, I wonder how long do we have to wait until some info about console release... for those who can not play arcades all that silence and waiting is a pain in the ass :(

now back to you point, im talking bout jhon aof 1&2, one of the worst games with the shittiest characters ever in a neo fighter. theres still a boatload of ff characters cool enough for kof we havent seen yet. aof already has all th best ones in kof, rest is utter crap. though i wouldnt mind lee along with ff jubei & tung in a kof oldies team. thats pretty much it.

Ah I thought so, I just didn't know if that was a typo, my bad =)

I don't know if anyone noticed but since XI ( kof 2002 UM has it) the characters don't interact when beginning a round.Usualy they have some kind of intro depending of the relation between the 2 characters.I want that on my console port! it gave more personality to the game...

Aww... and here I wanted to see Eiji flip out at the sight of Iori

Eh, we can only hope for the best. But if a miracle could happen:

Godlike netcode on par with Blazblue.

Solid training mode that teaches HD Mode combos.

Balanced out slightly.

2-3 new characters. Crossing my fingers for Oswald, Lin, and Yamazaki.

Ex characters is the easiest thing to happen rather than a character that they have to draw from scratch. I see EX Iori ( flames) happening. I'd kill for an EX king.

How would EX King play? She basically plays the same as she's always had, minus 2 moves or so. I can only imagine an EX King having a good AA, maybe another super, but losing air projectiles and something else. I'm all in favor of EX Iori raping K' and Raiden.

Yeah I want to play as EX iori ,but the new Iori its not bad at all. What I really want is EX Kyo with rakkas back. Thats the character I started in 98. But my main wish is the Orochi team mainly Yashiro. Yashiro was my favorite character in the series but seeing as this is not a dream match the appearance of the orochi team is unlikely.

I truly believe Iori's change is for the better, the old Iori was effective but somewhat bland.  XII and XIII Iori is more "rabid", more his style if you ask me (and he's just as good).

Kyo with his Aragamis back will be awesome in Hi Def, and he'll be truly scary in HD mode.

Agreed. Flame-less Iori still has his brutal ground & Grab game. In the most moderate of players hands, 98-XI iori was one of the most OP'd chars around. -not broken BTW-  He was like the nightmare child of ST Ryu and 3s Makoto. WAY too many options. If you weren't fighting him with certain upper lvl chars, you were in for the guessing game from hell.

New Iori seems better in tune with the rest of the cast.  Tone down the combo-ability of Betty's super and Raidens drop kick and the game'll be perfect for me.

Home Port Wish List:

-Turn into Real Bout 3 instead of being KoF XIII lawl

-Completely balanced out with no annoying glitches or tons of infinites. At least make the infinites hard enough to where those players need to work hard to make them happen.

-Bring in characters that can actually help add balance to the game, as opposed to just tossing in fan favourites and seeing how it goes. SNKP needs to make sure they don't add in something like the old Vanilla Fei-Long infinite

-MARKETING MARKETING MARKETING! Pour money into marketing or hire someone whose shown positive results with marketing to do it. Make some cheesey commercial for America with two dudes fighting (Preferably Americans or Ninjas) and make everyone notice KoF.

-If GGPO is not possible, do what you can with the engine to try and get it as close to even SSFIV as you can. At least let it be playable for us, Japan's internet is faster than America's and we're way more spread out than Japan is. East to West coast is a loooong ways comparatively.

-Release alternate costume packs as DLC as well as pay attention and release balance patches as needed, as well as new music tracks and characters.

Thats about it, unfortunately its falling on deaf ears. SNKP needs a community manager whose familiar with the competitive scene and can speak for us, AND knows how to market.

Home Port Wish List:
-Release alternate costume packs as DLC as well as pay attention and release balance patches as needed, as well as new music tracks and characters.

Make them available the they were in KoF: MI/RA. By the time you pay for all the packs, you end up paying for the game again.

I'd respect them for going with a complete release, all included. But in all honesty, i wouldn't mind if they made dlc like capcom from the getgo. I wouldn't mind "sponsoring" snkp's possible future endevours by coughing up some extra cash for what i hope to be this generations best fighting game. I'm guessing i'll buy the kof13 themed arcade stick that i expect them to get released and i'm also expecting to go for collectors edition or whatever other fancy special release they might go with. They pretty much have my money, they just need to decide how much of it they want

supporting a company is one thing, by buying theior products worth buying. buying trivial bs like outfits and asking $ for it is scandalous. problem is there are actually people buying this bs so they get the signal they doing right, shit sucks.

Everybody is doing this. I don't see why SNKP shouldn't do that. Anyway, alternate outfits are something optional and don't affect the game at all, so they can be ignored.
What I don't like are DLC chars, because do not buy new characters is quite hard because, even if you don't like them or don't want to use them, you will fight them, so you need to know them. Like Yoda in SC4. I totally hate it was DLC, because he was a very tricky char and I never could practice against him to know him well because I didn't want to buy him. So, when I found some Yoda online I never knew how to attack him or cover from his attacks. Grrr.

On a side note. Alternate outfits could be great, not only because are something cool in terms of visuality, but also because it would be the first time someone do alternate outfits in a 2D game. This could give to SNKP a very good feedback. I really would love an "alternate outfit" for each character like the ones Yuri, Raiden, Andy, etc. have. But don't forget that do this for a 2D game is a titanic work (all frames have to be duplicated and redrawed, and each character has around 500-700 frames...).
Title: Re: The King of Fighters XIII Home Port Wishlist

DLC characters I don't mind so much, especially with XIII. If they ever do that, I don't imagine it's going to be more than a few characters. Alternate outfits I'm usually less thrilled about, mostly because of how much companies charge for them. I'm not even sure XIII would have to have alternate outfits; several character color schemes made it so it's almost like a whole different outfit anyway.

One thing I'd wish they'd get more into after XII is the additional music tracks for teams. Make available arranged tracks for each year (Japan, AOF, FF, Psycho Soldier, Ikari, Kim, Iori, Ash, etc), make each song $1.99 at most, and let you design your own custom soundtrack. XIII already has a great soundtrack, but that option would be nice too.
Title: Re: The King of Fighters XIII Home Port Wishlist
Post by: steamwolf on March 10, 2011, 04:26:30 AM
The DLC is more of a marketing plan than an actual money saver. Yeah they make you pay but everyone is doing it now. Personally? I prefer to pay and download it than have to unlock everything in Tekken. It can take soooo long in Tekken 6 to do that and honestly? I REALLY do not care about offline content that much. Story mode, sure. Maybe a few trophies but Tekken 6 is on my shelf collecting dust for a few reasons besides shitty online. With pay for DLC, with proper marketing, this will net SNKP more money as well make it easier for people like me who just wanna select the costume and go. But fans do not stress! This also shows SNKP you like KoF and want more KoF content. Supporting the company is a good way to get more from them. All of this "boycotting SNKP" does not work. When Capcom's sales decreased drastically They disappeared for ten years, it was the tournament scene and fan demand that brought back Marvel and Street Fighter. Fan outcry is what got them to work on the online play and create something better, its what got TvC here. Always remember there has NEVER been an example in the game industry to prove "boycotting" ever does a damn thing so again, DLC would further aid in assisting SNKP and let them know there's people here that want their games. Adding in ridiculous hours of grinding for in-game money and unlocking a bunch of tiny pieces of costumes imo is not quite as good as having DLC costume packs. But I do think the Scenario Campaign for Tekken 6 was very interesting. I'd like to see a Fatal Fury reboot have something similar as a pre-Fatal Fury 1 campaign.

That's a really cool idea. And unlike capcom who are unable to go to any other sf game than the second one for good music, there actually is a fair deal of good stuff for kof. It could both work, be fair and unique all at once.

I dunno man, I loved the music in the Darkstalkers series, the Alpha series, SFIII series, JoJo, Marvel vs series (MvC2 was good but...different). Only miss for Capcom imho would be SFIV/SSFIV which they sorta fix by letting you hear remixes of the classic stuff. MvC3 is mostly remixes of MvC1 music, but the new stuff there like X-23's music is really good, same with others like She-Hulk. Albeit for me to bring up something in favor for Capcom on an SNK forum...but ya know, give credit where credit is due. SNKP makes some pretty good music but I was rather disappointed with 94, 97, 98, 2001, 2002, 2003, and XI's soundtracks. They had some okay stuff here and there, but really I didn't get much outta those soundtracks. And they remix songs or rehash them a LOT. Check out how many Geese remixes there are, or Esaka (Japan team) remixes that exist. They can't seem to go one game without Esaka being in it. XIII truly has good music though, unique too. Terry/Team Fatal Fury's "Kurikinton" sucks imo too and always has. There's much better music to use, like 196th Street.

To each their own, i really hate sf alphas music. Sfiiis music is weak aswell, though not as bad. I like kof 94, maybe not every song but atleast ikari warriors theme is memorable. I think x-23s theme is a failure, one of the most annoying songs in mvc3 though there is plenty of good stuff in there to compensate, for example wolverines theme gets the job done.

I'm expecting Mary, Yamazaki and Billy Kane, because they don't have any cameo at any stage. But this could mean the third fatal fury team of the game, so change billy or yamazaki for eiji or kasumih could be fair.

I would like to see 'alternate outfits' similar to raiden's or andy's one for each character. It could be a nice DLC to make extra money from those who like buy things like that, but nothing really important for those who don't care about outfits or who don't want to buy DLC.

But what I really wish is varied and funny and challenging game modes (time trial, missions, survivor, tutorial, challenges, this kind of things for when you don't have a good day to play online :D)

other good characters id like to see return but not as much as the 2 above: 96 boss team (geese, bigz & krauser). anhel, blue mary, vanessa, gai & silber. also ron, hes cool as fuck. ron > duo by a large fucking mile.

Saiki will probably be made playable.

Is their even a point in making Dark Ash playable? He plays the same way as regular Ash. At least from what I've seen (and I haven't seen much).
Title: Re: The King of Fighters XIII Home Port Wishlist

Saiki works fine as a boss, but making him playable would be a complete waste of resources.

He can't jump, he can't crouch, and has only three normals (A/B is the same move). There's no way this character could work as a playable, balanced character as-is.

SNK might decide to animate all the stuff he's missing, but it would just take away time that could have been spent working on characters people actually like.

also i do hope that if 14 ever comes lizzy can somehow sacrifice herself and get ash back to life. at first i didnt like ash (especially since he a main character), but hes really grown on me. lizzy that bitch needs to die asap.

also losing hwa and giving some of his options to joe would be the shit.

About Saiki, ditto with Rex Dart.

About Dark Ash, well yeah, he's just an overpowered Ash. He's got subtle differences though. For example, his A Ventose is fricking fast, so fast that you could probably do an infinite combo if you managed to trap your opponent in a corner (glad the CPU doesnt take advantage of this and stops after 3). His C Ventose is like Ash's EX Ventose but with the properties of a normal projectile, i.e. doesn't clash with super projectiles, like King's Double Strike in previous games. Nivose is practically the same but faster. Genie blows up almost as fast as EX Genie IIRC and his EX Genie summons two Genies at a time. His Germinal Caprice travels full screen.

He doesn't have Sans Culottes but he can use Germinal without it. Thermidor is much better for him as it just stays in place for a long time after moving. Pluviose is the same as Ash's EX Pluviose IIRC. Then there's Frimaire (just a speculation), or whatever that full screen attack is called.

If made playable, I think they should rebalance him and retool him in a way that he'll play like Ash but not quite. Frimaire should probably be his NeoMAX too. To be honest though, I'm fine with him as just another playable boss character for people who play casually.

I don't get why you hate Elizabeth so much. I like her as a character, and think she could be really fun to play as if they balanced her better. As is, most of her movelist is rendered almost useless by the effectiveness of two/three moves. If forced to use mix-ups and different combos to win, she'd be great.

Hwa and Joe need to be differentiated a bit, but they're both fun to play. You know what they say about babies and bathwater, right?  ;)

My number one console wish is improved balance. Character-wise, I think Yamazaki and Vanessa would satisfy the most people, so those would be my choices. Botan would be cool too. BUT they'd all just be icing on the cake.

eh, that's not a problem really, king was crying on kof 2002 mexico stage, yet she appeared on the PS2 port, they removed her from the background

Did they? hm, I didn't know it. Well, it's not something usual but maybe they will do it again...

I really want to see the other characters that appeared in ash saga, the others you guys listed not so much because I can pick a ramdom kof game from 99-XI that will have one or more  in the game
or
some new characters would be great

These characters being:

From other games: Gato, Tizoc, B. Jenet, Duck

I guess all of these could work...

I'm pretty much the same way, it was annoying enough 2k2 was missing so many of the NEST characters.

Okay, I'm probably totally alone in this, but...

Would anyone else besides me really love to see a 3DS port? After the PS3/360 versions are released, obviously. It's a shame SNK never supported the original DS with more traditional fighting games. KOF EX2 on the GBA was the system's best fighter I think. But I digress.

XIII would look marvelous in 3D.

ngcp or whatever the psp2 is called, yes. 3ds, no. psp, no.

also you guys read nintendo to release a console more powerful than ps3 and 360 this year? unrelated but we might actually still see kof 13 on a nintendo (rather not).

I agree to some extent as I think the 3D effects on 2D objects would be amazing. Unfortunately, the 3DS makes my eyes hurt after a few minutes and the d-pad is really bad for fighters.

I support KOF XIII for any plataform (even I'm just going to play it for ps3). More plataforms, more sells I guess, and more popularity. But I agree with nicalm, 3DS is terrible for fighting games, I tried SSFIV and pffff... I can't imagine someone playing it more than 15 min.  SnKPlaymore was on the list of NGP (PSP2) supporters, so KOF XIII for NGP could really happen.

yes, closely followed by sf3 series and motw. but 13 is way above those 2 (cept in animation, in which sf3, motw and aof3 are at least on par with 13).

Btw anyone else think XIII is the best looking 2D game to date ?

Absolutely. And I'm feel a bit angry with "videogame community" for not point it out enough. Come on, there's no 2D game could be compared to XIII, and I even heard comments like "blazblue graphics are better" just because sprites are bigger or other comments like "this game looks ok for a PS2". Is depressing. I can't wait to see that game in my HD TV, I'm just a bit affraid to see characters a bit blurry, but I guess it will be better than KOF XII for pixel haters...

But is not only graphics are gergous, I think Nona did an incredible work of art direction giving to new KOF a unique style. I'm pixel artist and I'm totally fascinated for KOF XII/XIII graphics.

thing where 13 is lacking is some animations like falling animations. it aint really that important, but after being spoiled by sf3 falling animations where everybody spins soo fucking beautifully i do miss them a lil bit.but its only minor, like no special intros and only 1 winpose. a least we gotr taunts back.

Yes faces that havent in more than 4 kof games, I want Adel, Momoko, Duck King,Oswald, Malin, Gato, Tizoc, B Jenet, and 98 iori and billy kane if they where really on the disk information
other than that the American sport team, 96 boss team as DLC

I do think that its one of the best looking 2d fighter especially in the extra detail they put into the game, love the stages absolutely breath taking, its pushing the boundary.

Other than that the next Samsho done in a a water color or painting stile that would be mind blowing

Yes, I agree with you at this point. KO animations look the same for all characters. Animate this sprites is a titanic, so I can understand this. Like the most of taunts are other animations recicled, or there aren't intros, or only one win pose. But this something they could improve easily for next titles (if we have them..) Oh, just imagine. Own KO animations, incresed move lists, better taunts, intros, "get ready anim" when you select char... and more characters of course.

Other thing I really appreciate are color palettes. Not only the fantastic work they have done with Raiden/Big Bear or Takuma/MrKarate, but colors palettes like Yuri's ones (it looks like she wears a different outfit with each color), or King wearing gloves or not depending on the color you choose, Benimaru different t-shirts (or without), Raiden changing outfit, etc. Is something never seen before in 2D.

Well, as i remember old kof games didn't have great falling animations either, so it might be a nostalgia thing. I think it is ok, any improvements are welcome ofcourse but i wouldn't ask for any on the graphic's department since every character would need to recieve the same updates separately so it would be way to much of a hassle.

I don´t thin the intro animations will be animated specially for the console release.
I do think that, if the KOF 13 becomes a mega hit for SNKP, and they plan to continue the series, we will probably see them soon.
When you select a character, you can even hear classic catch phrases that characters said at the begging of the matches in previous games.
Now that they finally made a full game, they won´t have to go back to scratch.
They can start adding certain characters, certain moves, little changes to some costumes, etc; just like old time. They won´t have to go back to scratch again.

from 96 onwards characters could fall forwards or backwards, on their backs or fronts, spin horizontally, spin vertically (this was the ugliest animated one, the one you get for instance when goro did his special throw).

Gotta love how timeless 2D art can be, Capcom's work on Darkstalkers is very impressive to this day as well.

Yeah and its the overall package that makes 13 so impressive, it isn't just the animation but the exellenet backgrounds and the bright colors and the attention to detail on the character coloring and body part shadows. Add to that the fantastic special effects (love Maxima's steam effects) and you have a real winner.

But is not only graphics are gergous, I think Nona did an incredible work of art direction giving to new KOF a unique style. I'm pixel artist and I'm totally fascinated for KOF XII/XIII graphics.

This, a million times. The thing about Nona is that he likes to make characters unique, even the first first time he popped up (iirc anyway) in KOF2001 he tried to give each character a distinct personality in their win art (dat Yuri).

With XIII he did the same, pretty much each character looks distinct not only in looks but in the body type as well. With Capom you have Ken, Akuma and Ryu who look pretty much identical but look at Robert, Takuma and Ryo, they all are very distinct in their look. Same with Terry, Andy, Joe, all unique body types and feels. The list goes on goes on, they couldn't have picked a better artist than Nona imo to usher KOF into a new age.

I always loved Nona, even when everybody was hating him because he overexagerated kof characters in 2000-2001. Watching XI's endings or SvC Chaos artworks, I do really love his art.

Exactly. Just compare Terry and Andy, Kyo and K', Mature and King, characters who could be very similar but they aren't. I don't understand why he left the project... not sure if he left by his own or they fired him..

I'm pretty sure the in-game portraits and the official character art were done by different people. At least, that's been the case for most KOFs. At any rate, they have a completely different style.

But more to the point, Nona was definitely the best choice for art director of the new KOF. I really hope someone can fill the void left by his departure. Even looking at just XIII, I suspect that Kula was done after he left, and (in my opinion) it really shows.

Not really, they look like something he would do. I'm note %100 sure if it is he who did the in-game art but through the years I have heard a ton of hate for KOF2001 win art and all of it has been directed at Nona.

Definitely. I think Kula, K' and Maxima are done by the new art director. While Nona tried to give more personality to characters, the new one just tried to keep the "standard" look. The new one (I don't remember he's name) talked about Mai sprite like if it was from him, but the truth is Mai has a strong Nona style in all her pixels... maybe I'm wrong and the new art director did a good work with Mai catching Nona's style or maybe she was started by Nona and finished by the new guy.

Do you think complains about Athena and Ralf/Clark's proportions and XII's pixels are related to Nona's departure?

indeed.

also nona is a great artist for sprites, but damn terrible for ending and artwork. some of his work looks hideous, while others are ok. his sprite work though is impressive.

and agreed on darkstalkers animation. the game is older than sfa series but it animates better than any sfa game.

also along with ss1-4 and 64 1 & 2, darkstalkers has the best designs ever in a fighter. SS characters are in a tier of their own, same for darkstalkers.

In terms of balance:

KOF XII > KOF XIII > KOF XI

I'll say that SNKP "wins" the home console game if they can get K' and Raiden down to Kula/Elizabeth level. And then wins+2 if they can get all four of them down to Shen/Iori/Kyo/Andy level.

I dunno XII had Joe and Kyo that stood out, but I suppose that's true.

Wow, if they can get K', Raiden, Liz and Kula to the Shen, Iori, Kyo and Andy level that'll be so awesome, I bet they'll instantly get more ppl playing the game.

Raiden
- Take away the invincibilty on lvl 4 dropkick, it'll make it easier to trade/punish, it'll still be a good move but it also won't be nerfed enough to really shift his tier placement (much).
- Get rid of GCCD to lvl 3/4 DK

K'
- Make the (EX) Narrow Spike follow-up DC only, he'll be forced to spend more meter for more damage bringing him back down to 2002UM level K', top tier but not really towering over the rest of the cast.

IMO Liz needs more moves because at the moment she can't really function offensively without consistently using her Etincelles (meter) and for the most part her dp (damage) as well, then there's her loop combo. I got gripes with a few others but it's not as important, Leona and Athena need their airthrows back and so on.

I think the best way to balance Liz would be to split her uppercut DM into two version. Make a the current one do more damage, but make it an EX DM. The normal DM would be more similar to the XI version (which only did three hits, and couldn't be followed up), with maybe less speed and priority.

Basically, she'd be more balanced (but still good) if she needed two bars to do her current combos, or a DC in order to connect her normal DM.

EDIT: Hold on, this is the video thread? Oops. Sorry for the off-topic.

They should add stats to potential challengers you're about to connect with, showing all their stats and character selection.  If you see them use 70% Raiden then chances are you're going get a DK to the face.  For lols, they should add an extra stats of how many DK he or she has performed to date.  Alternatively, they should do what MvC3 supposedly does and instead of just connecting RageQuitters with RageQuitters (which is a brilliant idea they should keep), they should connect DK'ers with DK'ers lol.

Wish snkp would do a online code for this game, boy they are going to need it if they fuck this up

fix k' narrow spike follow up and shrink  his landing  distance when ex crowbite is blocked( I rather have K' land closer so you can punish it for missing )

fix raiden dropkick, give it a different input command and nerf it  where it does the same damage like his other special moves, give ex DK guard break property

turn liz dm upper into a regular move, remove her Coup De Veine links both light-light and strong-light its a overkill seeing it being exploit, give her a new dm

fix kula where she has to do ex ray spin to connect to another

first of pairing ragequiters with ragequiters is the best thing ive ever heard in a fighter (and its from a fighter i dont even like, at least they did something right).

on the balance issues, personally i think its best to balance the game in the easiest manner possible. i know ive said this before but i still standf by it as the best and easiest balancing method that would work 100%.

K: more lag on firebal and followups, if you dont follow up there should be a window to punish. if you do follow up, the opponent has to chose up or straight. make it so that k has little time to decide wether to go for fb ro up kick afterwards. this makes it more fair. also the amount of super power and dc bar gained from his  ;dn ;db ;bk + K should be halfed, so when he does use it and does do another one to do the low follow up he gets the same anount of bar hed normally get from 1 move.

Raiden: this guy is the easiest. just lower the damage of his dropkicks and the problem is finished. have them do 25 or 50% less damage and were set.

Lizzy: make it so that only the first dp launches. meaning if you do another dp afterwards the opponent flies backwards really hard (imagine landing on yamazakis straight ( ;b) snake fist from the air and getting hit by both hits, the way you fly away would fit lizzys second dp very well imo). making the second dp cancelable into super or her hand slash attack or ex dp to launch them again would make her fair game. you would have to spend bar, either just DC or both super and DC basr. this would still allow her to do some nice damaging combos without too much bar if she actually has the opponent cornered, thus making it fair.

kula is a hard one imo, its all about her  ;dn ;db ;bk + K move, thats the one that messes up everything and makes her overpowered. normally youd have to DC cancel for it to become powerful, but doing 2 combos with 1 dc cancel in each pretty much kills any opponent, how do we fix this. if she keeps this move shell always be powerful, but its possible to make it less powerful. make it so that if not in the corner if you do this move and its follow up thatll send the opponent too far away to juggle afterwards. make it so that only her ex version allows you to juggle afterwards. her normal versions should only be able to connect a dp afterwards if the combo is done in the corner imo. or you have to waste a DC bar when you cancel the moves follow up into dp, and another dcbar if you wanna cancel the dp into her  ;dn ;db ;bk + K again. if shes able to get the opponent into the corner afterwards shell be able to do the normal juggle, but shell have lost both her DC stocks. this would make her very fair and still a threat imo.

remember this is imo, ive read through most of your posts and looked at the different answers from you guys. so far what im telling you guys here seems the best solution, at least to me.

Am I only person here who wants Adelheid added to the roster? Afterall, he is quite improtant character in this saga, right?  He was in 2003 and XI, so why he isn't in this game? He is also my favorite KOF boss, so it would be nice to have him.

Adelheid will surely return at some point. I wouldn't be surprised if he made it into the console version.

The thing I keep thinking is: SNK has to include a random character that no one is expecting. It's become a tradition.

KOF XI: WTF, Duck King and Eiji?
KOF XII: WTF,  Raiden??
KOF XII console: WTF, Mature???
KOF XIII: WTF, Hwa Jai????

So, part of me is hoping for a complete surprise.

The thing I keep thinking is: SNK has to include a random character that no one is expecting. It's become a tradition.

I hope it will be Karman Cole or Jubei Yamada, lol.

Or USA Sports Team  :) Heavy D! is awesome.

It shall be all of the above! Now that'll be really random!

I would buy 5 copies if they included May Lee.

That said, I don't care about extras or re-balancing or even netcode. I just want to play the damn thing.

Color edit + effect edit would be great in this game ^_^ I'd feel a BIT bad for SNKP (as they could make a killing off all the colors they could make, if they keep all their detailed palettes and such to themselves), but I guess they could make up for it, with things like Camo, Ponytails, and Mask additions/removals, as seen in the 2nd palette options already in the game.

And I have to ask... is there anyone out there who'd prefer to see the characters already in the game improved/modified, more than seeing new characters? It'd be great to see some mods here and there, like Hwa getting more unique normals, Terry getting either power dunk/charge/quick burn/fire kick, or Mai getting Kagerou / flip kick /a 2nd DM.

I'm still suprised with the amount of new specials / normals / neomax's / taunts they added to XIII, along with the new characters, personally. I think it'd be great to see such a thing carried on into a console release.

(And hey, if you're gonna end up giving arcade operators something for free, as Frionel theorized... might as well be substantial, and not just 2 or 3 characters, right? The drive they have to send out cost them the same thing in the end!)

I would really enjoy color edit in this game, but I'm a bit afraid thinking odd colors you could find online, like characters all in black or in yellow xD

Well, if I can choose of course I prefer a complete Mai (with Kagero, command moves and 2nd DM) than extra characters. But looks like we are not going to have this. This could mean re-balance the game. I think it's easier add new characters than tune the regular ones. Mai improvement, and any other character improvement, will have to wait to future titles probably..., if we have them.

But yes, I would prefer this than new characters. Because I have the feeling that new characters will be awesome and well finished to have people happy, and regulars chars like Mai, King or Terry will look incomplete compared to them, and will be very unfair.

They could implement a way to not have that. For example, you pick a certain body part, like K dash right leg. You can only change the color of all that body part, you shouldn't be dealing with specific colors like previews color edits. So if you change the leg to white, all the shadows will change color appropriately to the color you picked, making it faster and easier. Well that is the solution I would come up with.

The most logical road to take after Console Release to me is to see KOF14. It would be weird to see another Arcade Revision that isn't just a patch to the actual Arcade. Seen as 13 not been a Dream Match.

Speaking of which... I wonder how KOF14 will be, I doubt they will do a Dream Match this time around, the most logical thing is to make a story driven game. If they do a Dream Match, they would need to add more characters, maybe around 12 or more to the actual cast.

Let's see, from 2003 we are missing:
Tizoc, Gato, B.Jenet, Chang, Yamazaki, Mary, Billy, Shingo, Whip, Jhun, Chizuru, Hinako, Adelheid & Mukai

Which are 14... and then from XI:
Duck King, Oswald, Ramon, Kasumi, Vanessa, Momoko, Eiji, Magaki & Shion

So that leads to 23 More characters of the Ash Saga, but then you must add teams that usually appear again like KOF98/Orochi Team, those Kyo Clones and Rugal.

Man... that's a lot of character for a "Dream" Match of just Ash Saga, well they can try do so a KOF14 UM with more character added later on if they want. Bah...

There's no rule that dream matches have to include all (or even most) of the characters from that storyline. 98 and especially 2002 were missing lots of them.

I don't know if we'll be seeing XIV any time soon, though. We'll have to see how XIII does on consoles.
Title: Re: The King of Fighters XIII General Discussion Thread
Post by: Shiranui_ninja on May 10, 2011, 01:59:01 PM
I know people think that each saga must end with a Dream Match, because Orochi and NESTS do it, but already having KOF XII (we all know is not a dream match but is the word they used to sell it..) being Ash saga the longest saga to end (because of long period to develop XII and XIII) I really would like next title, if there's any new title, starts a new saga. With new characters related to, new enemies/bosses and returning KOF chars while the regulars ones in XIII are kept and improved, of course.

But as Rex Dart says, let's go step by step. First we need an official console version announce, then the release itself and wait the game do it well and sells more than XII. Maybe then, we can start to talk about next KoFs.

Well, here is what I will suggest:

Here is my explanation for Story Mode options:

In other words, select Team if you want to play a team story, or select single to play a team member's own story.

If single is selected, select a team, then select a character, you will play through that character's backstory (I select the Fatal Fury team, then I select Joe, I get his own story afterwards). Each character will have two different routes, the good ending route, and the bad ending route.

If team is selected, simply just select a team, you will play through that team's backstory (I select the Fatal Fury team, I get the team's official backstory). Each Team will have three different routes, the true team ending route, the good ending route, and the bad ending route.

Red means that it is selected, Dark Red means that it is unselected.

Also, here is what I will suggest for the game's voice cast, along with an arrange Japanese cast (Think Samurai Shodown VI in the Anthology):

I admire your passion.

Edit: Although I don't get why you'd want to replace any of the Japanese voice cast. Most of them have been voicing their characters for years. It would sound off hearing someone else voicing these characters.

  • New console-exclusive opening animation, with cutscenes done by Satelite, and theme song done by Nana Mizuki.
  • Anime cutscenes for Story Mode by Satelite
This is asking too much. I guess you know you can't expect this. Story mode already have animce cutscenes, I don't know who made them but they are great. Opening movie is already done, I hardly doubt they will change it for console version. Is not impressive as story mode cutscenes but is ok.

About new japanese voices... I don't see why. And about Chunli's english voice for Mai, I really hope this doesn't happen.

agreed. US voice cast, or any other voice cast that isnt done by the japanese voice actors is the most terrible idea ive heard so far. at least non gameplay related.

some things i cant stand about germans, spanish, french, turkish, italian american and whatever countries (even the dutch lately), STOP YOUR FUCKING DUBBING AND FUCKING UP MOVIES ON TV. in an age where everybody can read, we dont need anymore dubs, just subs.

yes this also applies to games. all imo.

  • Replay Upload and download.
This is a must, since they had it on 12. But I really hope they add a player like in BlazBlue, love to see frame by frame animations.

  • NGBC XBLA netcode (I had to suggest this)
NGBC is good, but I want better. BlazBlue or GGPO like code would be awesome.

  • BlazBlue-Style story mode (Where you have two options: Select a team, and pick a member of that team to see their own backstory seperate from their team's backstory (Example: I selected Elisabeth's team, and I selected Shen Woo, I get his part of the backstory of Elisabeth's team) or simply select a team, and play through their story)
As much as I would like this, I see it hard to have more than one ending for each team. I just wish they added the pre-team stories with some animations, like the endings and some voice acting. That would be enough for me.

  • New online menu with a different menu design from the main menu (See Tekken 6 and SFIV/SSFIV for examples)
I seriously hope not, I mean if the design of the first menu is good don't change it. But in Tekken 6 and SF4/SSF4 their menus aren't that great.

  • New console-exclusive opening animation, with cutscenes done by Satelite, and theme song done by Nana Mizuki.
  • Anime cutscenes for Story Mode by Satelite
I kinda agreed with some people, asking for Animated Cutscenes is a bit too much sometimes. Besides I would prefer to see SNK do their own animations, KOFXI and KOF XIII cutscenes, even with limited animations were fun to watch, even though I don't like Nona art.

Just to add I would love for KOF13 to be the first fighter to have Online Training Mode. I keep thinking this will help a lot of people to have a way to teach someone online without time limits or a character dying during a training session.

Inspired by DarKaoZ, here's my dream KOF tutorial:

Part 1: How to move and defend
(Covers basics of 2D fighter movement, running and back-dash, different jumps and hops, rolling, recovery rolls and GCAB/CD.)

Part 2: How to attack
(Covers normals, CDs, throws, command normals, specials, command throws, EX specials, DMs, EX DMs, NeoMaxes, Drive Cancels, HD mode and Max Cancels. Phew.)

Part 3: Defensive Strategy
(Covers using pokes for defense, dealing with basic mix-ups, dealing with more advanced mix-ups, avoiding guard crush, and using the invincibility of EX moves to avoid attacks)

Part 4: Offensive Strategy
(Covers safe vs. unsafe moves, basic blockstrings, move properties [overheads], basic mix-ups, building gauge, and taunts.)

Each section would consist of a number of easy-to-moderate challenges teaching the player about the game. The sections can be done in any order (so experienced players can skip through some of the basics), but completing them all gets you a gold star (or something equally valuable). SNKP has already had challenges like these in their games, but they've always been mixed in with the more general challenge mode. The idea of this mode would be to make players aware of what they're learning.

The tutorial characters are Kyo, Iori and Ash, since their move sets cover just about all KOF basics. Each section would be taught by one of the "master" characters: Kim (attacking), Takuma  (offense), and Chin (defense). Maybe Rose or someone could handle movement? Final exam is Kyo/Iori/Ash vs. Kim/Takuma/Chin on moderate difficulty.
Title: Re: The King of Fighters XIII Home Port Wishlist
Post by: DarKaoZ on May 16, 2011, 11:51:12 PM
Yeah, that is something I had in mind. But don't you think it should be kinda cool if in each SECTION you could retell the story of past KOFs? The only problem I see about this is that you will need to make new backgrounds for specific places. But I would love to see old stages in HD, so that should be a plus.

I think SNKP should copy SF4 in the "titles" rewards. They could also do the same for some "Trials" like events to teach each character specific moves and BnBs. Those would unlock the extra colors and/or titles. Giving the player incentive to try those modes is awesome.

I hope they have done something like this during all this time they had since the Arcade release, because they really need to get more people to play KOF and all this are great fanservices for fans too, so nothing wrong by doing that.

1) NGBC Netcode, but I'm sure that Atlus won't screw it up. It's not Ignition, after all.
2) Replays, and replay sharing.
3) Balance out Raiden / K'. Everybody else is fine, really.

I'd rather not have titles / trials, although a tutorial mode and the same data they have in the technical references would be lovely for new and veteran players alike.

Icons / Symbols > Titles.

Problem with Ignition is that they put a lot of pressure to SNKP to release soon the game, even though isn't their fault, they didn't helped either

About the story mode, I fin hard to see cutscenes for 31 characters, I believe that will be better to see only team story modes, if they had the length of the story mode from blazblue, will be fine, considering that SNKP doesn't had the money to make more of this (plus Is a drag to play 31 story mode)

Yo, ohisashiburi dana!

I just hope for a couple of things: add a drive cancel to K and Kula's longer combos cuz right now it's nuts. raiden and liz need some attention too.

on the other hand, some neo-max moves are underwhelming. Terry's is an example, it misses most of it's damage, while Kyo's, fairly similar, hits full screen. and it's not like terry is a killer on every other field. to, there should be no more than 2 tiers: easy to use, high damage but limited options OR very versatile but low damage. right now it feels like a character either rocks the cradle or is a pushover (it's an exaggeration but you get the point).

and Netcode... maybe they should give id software a call hahahhahah.

Mai, terry, Doulon, king do really need a damaging Neomax, and fix the hit box for terry and king neomax because they tend to not fully hit you and do less damage beause of it

Wat? Terry's neomax only does three hits from what I know, and it's best used midscreen. I'm rather curious how that's an issue considering they do the predesignated amount of hits.

SNKP needs to put extra character, specially ones that people want. Because if they don't have this, then a lot of the Owners of the dumb version will not even think of buying it to play the game. This is assuming the netcode is not good, so at least the new characters will make the people curious enough to buy the game.

dlc doesnt cut it, thats that retarded shit. i think most people just wanna play each other without worrying about wether they have a certain character or not. also this is the first itteration of the game, how stupid would it be to have dlc characters for a game thats just released. if there are extra characters and backgrounds, they should be on disc imo. fuck that dlc bs.

I also wouldn't mind if there weren't any new characters. I can already see myself spending tons of time learning all the characters already in the game. Good netcode, cool and meaningful (and meaningless) extras, and rebalancing get higher on my priority list.

Although my big wish for characters is that, whatever new characters get added (if any) they feel at least somewhat NEW and not RECYCLED. In other words, I hope most characters get Kensou / Iori or even Maxima / Takuma / womens team-style makeovers. XIII Kula feels underwhelming to me.

While extra characters would be cool (crosses fingers for Blue Mary), it's not something I would consider to be a top priority. I just want a well rounded game with modes that will satisfy both those who prefer online play and those who prefer to play by themselves.

I don't expect them to go overboard with modes like in a MK or SC game, but I don't wanna feel like I have experienced everything the game has to offer after 10 minutes of play either.

Personally, I want SNKP to make XIII a basis for DLC for a year + to come. I love what I see from the systems of this game, and I actually wanna see old favorities get their chance to shine under them.

I mean, really, at this point, a good KoF XIII port, even with DLC, would *kinda* save me money on other games. I wouldn't be buying as many downloadable games, as many main games, or as much DLC for games like Mortal Kombat or SSFIV.

I'd love for SNKP to make this the game they really get to pimp-out and show off their creative abilities with, but mostly, I just wanna be able to play XIII. What the arcade has is already pretty nice (with it's cinematics, team and edit endings, unique convos between characters, and stages exclusive to the boss battles), so if they continue to build home features in that direction, that's cool. A few more edit team endings, a sound and art gallery, a new sub-boss who'd be playable (c'mon Adel or Boton), and a new stage or 2 would be nice.

i think one character and a couple of backgrounds from 12 would be realistic expectations. asking ppl for money after they JUST bought the game is kinda retarted and offensive. i mean, if they manage to squeeze a couple of charaters to extend the game's console longevity, great. but if it happens too soon (or too late, as is often the case) don't bother.

I don't know why, but I like the system of DLC in MK9

Maybe is a case of well, they gave us so many extras that I really don't care

In the other hand, I fuckin hated the DLC on MVC9

It's possible to give us the stages of XII, reescalate them and put them for free, I think that those will work fine, and I lot that some stages in XIII are the same as XII but with modifications, but still I will not mind to see them again

But if they draw more bg, props to them, even though I don't know why I got a feeling that they will do them on 3D, I never understood why the new stages on XI were on 3d.
Title: Re: The King of Fighters XIII Home Port Wishlist

The new stages of XI were a PS2 extra, so they used what that hardware was best at (3D). It did clash a bit, but they looked rather nice in progressive scan...

Anyway, I have no problem with properly used DLC. If you told me back in 1997 I coulda payed 5 dollars to add the Gunstar Heroes to Guardian Heroes, I would have been RIGHT THERE! If you told me I could turn KoF 97 into KoF 98, a year after 97's release, with 30 dollars worth of DLC (Or a free update, in the case of Blazblue Continue Shift 2), and have the option to switch between both in menus, I wouldn't have complained a bit.

Super this, Turbo that, EX + Alpha, Perfect, yearly updates, championship editions... all those upgrades to fighters were basically "DLC" with more obtuse, more expensive, less convenient ways to get the content. So why act like DLC has no place in fighters? If properly supported and distributed, fighters are some of the best games to offer DLC for, and may have paved the way for other console games that get them now.

Speaking of proper support, the big problem I have with Marvels DLC is that they didn't follow up with it well. Shuma and Jill are great, but what is there past that? The first costume pack was ambitious, but wheres the others? Couldn't they have at least made alt colors for the costumes over this time? It's like they promised a trend, and then failed to follow up on it. I'm OK with not having new characters or stages yet, but they should have followed up their DLC character polls with rough sketches of the winners, or something to say "Hey, this content is actually coming!!!" The "Shadow Battles" are no where NEAR interesting enough to cover the wait they've put us through, and many have stopped caring.

Commpare that to MK9's, which seems much better paced, and professional; shame the game annoys me to no end, lol. I'd love to see a game I really like, do the same as they are, because they've done a great job at teasing upcoming released, and softening the "Oh no, it's DLC!" backlash, by giving away "free" bonuses like Klassic Kostumes with their compatability updates and the like.

KoF XIII is releasing for 50 bucks in the US; so, for example, if they release a 3 character team + extra colors / "2nd outfit" sprite mods for an existing team, for 10 dollars, in 2 or 3 months time after release, I don't think anyone would feel that burned, given that the game is already cheaper.

Truthfully, if I were heading SNKP, I'd be using KoF XIII to promote everything I make for the next few years. Making a new Metal Slug? Thow Fio + A Metal Slug stage into XIII as DLC. Releasing Samurai Showdown RPG on Virtua Console? Drop Kazuki or Hanzo into XIII. Making a Pachislot Fighters History Game? Drop Mastorious and Mizonguchi into XIII. Or get another doujin game ported to XBLA (Like Akatsuki Blitzkampf), and give one of their characters the proper SNKP treatment for XIII. Working with Capcom to release CVS2 on downloadable services? Get Capcom to allow a SF team of Ryu, C.Viper, and Sagat to guest start in XIII. (Like a tease of the CVS3 we'd probably never see otherwise... :( )

Really, more than any other fighter company out there, SNKP has a lot riding on this particular game. It'd be really nice for them to take their unique situation, and use it as best they can. They don't even have to do it all "out the box" on console release, if they played their cards right.

This all doesn't matter without good Netcode though, lol. But if the netcode is worth it, they really could have a game and platform to promote themselves to more and more players through. So again, while I'd be happy just getting XIII and a bit more on console release, I think they COULD do a lot more, if they desire.

Heck, I'd consider it a "Console extra" if they'd offer beta keys to people who pre-ordered, to test the netcode, and help them give it the stress test + improvements it needs. Make it a little better than a normal demo (like give 2 teams worth of characters), and use it until the game releases. After the game is out, make some minor adjustments, and let the "Beta" become a free demo, open to all, with a few characters stripped out. Basically 1 thing becomes a pre-release hype builder, and a post-release advertisement.

This is the WISH list thread, so gotta get out these crazy wishes every once in a while! (-_-;)

he he :D that's why they are the only ones i play in sf4 (some of the guys behind sf4 used to work for snk ..and it shows LOL )..tho for now i can play only viper and rufus at a decent level.Yang, remy and yun are also good choices :3 forgot about them + some others from 3s.But ken, ryu, sagat i don't want to see.

I can undertand that sentiment, but I've always felt that it'd be a good way for them to get some extra funding, extra promotion, and pick up the capcom fans who were burned by SF going 3D graphics. Might as well hit all the niche's they could, right?

Ryu and Sagat wouldn't be my first choices either (Sagat maybe, just because he'd look cool drawn SNKP huge), but I'd either pick for gameplay reasons (charge characters like Guile or DeeJay, or Abel or Alex, since they're unique grapplers), or just who'd be best fitting (Juri's basically an evil Chae Lim, and Kim would freak out over an EVIL TKD fighter, Yang would be a freaky take on Lin in some ways, etc).

There's so much "If you can't BEAT the competetion... team up with them!" going on in entertainment now-a-days... And SNKP has shown a lot of KoF in other works stuff lately (Queens Gate game, LoV with Square, that chinese MMO from a while back), that'd it would be nice to see a crossover that'd actually be relevant to the worldwide audience.

XIII doesn't play like SF4 or Third Strike so the novelty would wear off fast, the only way those characters would be used often is if they ended up being top tiers, not because they are Capcom characters in a KOF.

You would honestly rather have characters like Ryu/Guile/Yang/Abel etc. over possibilities like Oswald/Yamazaki/Gai/Vanessa/Ramon/Angel etc?

Not to mention if they create sprites (these super high quality and very time consuming sprites) for SNK characters then they can use them for years to come and not have to worry about Capcom pulling the plug or a contract running out.

The idea is a waste of time and money imo, unless its a full on VS game.
Title: Re: The King of Fighters XIII Home Port Wishlist

You honestly think some SF fanboys wouldn't buy the game just to see their characters in 2D again? Or that some who buy into it wouldn't become KoF fans afterwards? Not to mention KoF XIII's game play systems would bring a whole new style to the characters; some even might prefer to play them in XIII, after being brought in by a familiar lure. We all agree that XIII is great fun to watch / play, SNKP seems to be confident in this as well.

Serving the KoF Fanbase keeps that audience happy. Serving the Fighting game fanbase potentially grows the brand to even more people.

Not to mention Capcom would potentially provide them with some money for making such a thing, splitting some of the dev cost, so it'd possibly be "cheaper" for SNKP than developing their own characters.

Well done crossovers can have great "long tail" benefits. Some negative ones, with regards to contracts, as well. But many of the old ones were made before reselling on digital services was ever dreamed of. I'd imagine they'd be much smarter now.

I've heard and read "I got into SNK games because of CvS!" or "I only know how to play Kyo because I mained him in CvS2!" or even "I only found out about SNK games because of the crossovers!" so many times over the years, that I could see such a thing really profiting KoF and SNKP quite a lot.

Besides, there's always a few "throw away" characters in each game (as far as ones who don't move on to the next immediate title), and if such a thing was used as a seed towards getting interest for new crossovers / re-releasing old ones, the investment could be one that reaches more (and gets more money) than any other simple team of characters could.

Do you really think is a good thing have Ryu and company into KOF XIII just due to get new players on KOF? Well, maybe... But I hope I never see this.

Sure, why not? (^_^) You don't know how many times I wished I could play Capcom characters with SNK gameplay systems. Like letting Makoto Normal-> Command Normal -> Karakusa, using Guile with SNK charge times, or wondering what'd it feel like to play some characters with proper hops / ability to do air moves to extend or shorten back dashes. Just like it was great fun to see how SNK character adapted to the 3 level super system of the alpha series, or what new normals the characters obtained since they went from a 4 button fighter to a 6 button one, in CVS series.

Some? Yes. Enough to make a difference? No. CVS didn't make much of a difference for SNK's popularity, that much is evident.

Besides, the last thing SNK should want is for KOF to become more popular thanks to Capcom characters.

And considering the current financial standing and popularity of each company it would probably be SNK that would have to dish out the dough to have Capcom let them use their characters.

Hmmm, different perspectives then. At any rate, I'd love to see KoF bring "crossover" to relevancy with it's name again. XI was a great start, and the series was birthed as a way to bring characters from the greatest fighters around together under unique gameplay, so it'd be good to see XIII work with that in some unique ways.

Basically every fighter out now has some kinda crossover element, be it between characters from different games in the same series, to characters from franchises that make absolutely no sense (such as Kratos in MK, or the Star Wars characters + Manga creators guest designs in SCIV). Almost anything is possible now, so it'll be interesting to see what occurs.

Yeah, and you can add Cole from infamous to SFxT.
This is exactly what I dislike of these games... But anyway, these cases are very different from to put a SF char into a KOF... Kratos, Star Wars, Cole, FFantasy (rumored a guest characters for SCV), are characters from non fighting games franchises. Putting a SF char into a KOF is like to say "look, we want to be like Capcom and get its fans!" Too much desperate. I think it will be terribly negative thing for SNKP image. Sales can't justify everything.

I don't see any problem seeing non fighting game characters on franchises, the metal slug characters did fine on NGBC, hell, the ikaris and athena are not from fighting games

Eh, nothing negative about it, really. "Foreign challengers reunite, to take on the King of Fighters!". These guys have history + a classic rivalry together, and KoF XIII has gameplay systems that'd be REALLY great to see certain character under, that's the main focuses here. Drive / HD cancelling could bring a whole new dimension to so many characters, as well.

Besides, I think putting Star Wars characters into SC looked more desperate, actually. And Cole in SF x T is just... odd.

Having too much fun thinking about Makoto in XIII's systems now, though! Hayate DC's into Karakusa, Fukiage HD mode juggles! Or maybe making Abare Tosanami act similiar to Leona's V-Slasher, allowing Tsurugi -> Super Cancel Abare, which could then Max Cancel into Seichusen Godanzuki? I'd feel nerf'd playing her in SF after all that, lol.

*Note that I'm one of the people that HATES the idea of a Capcom/SNK takeover, lol. It's nothing like that. But they're the 2 most relevant 2D fighting companies, so I think it's awesome when they work together. (SF x T is a matchup I never cared about... but the idea of playing Julia Chang in 2D gameplay is growing on me, haha.)

as long as they find a way to work with the system, I'm fine with it

Yup, I love the way SNK(P) can make characters relevant to their games. That's the way I'd look at any crossovers they'd do; they make characters into awesome, fun to play fighters.

If you want to put SF characters on a KOF the solution is very simple

Use them as a parody a la Dan, make fun of some antics that are proper of SF, I will mark : D

KOF needs more guys from other franchises, that is why kof is so great, we need more FF, AOF, Buriki One, Fighter's History and maybe Savage Reign Characters, or even kisarah from ADK, gave them some redisgn, and you got new characters that made KOF the SNK crossover that originally was.

Well, FH is not from SNK, but they will still fit on the series

I still wanna see THAT Ryoko VS / Merged with World Hero's Ryoko, lol.

That'd be fun however, to see FH characters mixed up even more with modern SF characters. Heck, even if they made pure SF characters, they could salvage them later by dumping a lot of their spritework into FH designs later, lol.

This type of thing is enormously subjective, but my two cents:

I like that XIII (and XII) feel like an old school SNK fighting game. I'd really like them to maintain that atmosphere, since its something that I haven't really experienced since . . . maybe KOF 2000?

"Crazier" crossover games, like NGBC, KOF XI or, hell, even Maximum Impact 2/R.A can also be fun, but I don't like them as much. If they really want Metal Slug vs. Capcom vs. Fighter's History vs. King of Monsters, make another 3D game please.

Keep the main series SNK-only.

Yeah, they definitely need some Buriki One characters. Gai is obvious, but it's a bit tough with the others since a lot of the other fighting styles in B1 are already represented by other characters (muay thai, tae kwon do, judo, boxing, wrestling). Only unique one I think is tai chi? But no one seems excited about more old guys.

There is no comparison between a 3D guest character and a 2D one like those found in XIII, huge difference in time and effort.

I'd kill for Gai in XIV.

You know, I've been thinking about it and Shen is a pretty close match to Makoto. Both have:

- command grabs that can lead to combos
- a dash punch special (that they both can charge and cancel)
- a DP-like punch special that is more for combos than a DP
- power up supers
- overhead specials
- both are all offense and crap defense

Yeah, they could end up feeling pretty similiar under the same gameplay systems. Makes me wonder even more at what they'd do to differentiate them. Rather similiar for characters who have absolutely nothing in common!

As for the Buriki chara's, I dunno how many of them would make the transition well... Silber and Guy made the transition very well, but would I want Rob Python over Heavy D!, Vanessa, Axel Hawk, or Rick Strowd?

Oh, and I'd be cool with more old guys in the game, haha. Still wanna make the "Ojiisan" team, the natural evolution of the Oyaji team!

I'd like to see a 1 on 1 vs Mode that could be played online. I'm one of those guys who have difficulty at getting really good at more than one character. Because my experience in past KOF games has been this: I pick one character that I'm pretty decent at and know a lot about (mostly Joe, but in 02 it was K9999) then a pretty basic character like 95' Kyo, then one character that looks like fun and I want to get better at. The fun character I picked gets destroyed in 2 seconds, I make 2 mistakes with Kyo (like doing an SRK and they don't jump, or doing a projectile just as they jump) and he's knocked out. Then I'm down to my main and I do okay, but by that point I have 1-2 other characters to fight and not enough life or Yomi magic to win.

KOF should stay the way it is with characters that were previously in the game. There's a shitton of characters already in the KOF series, we don't need more.
NGBC could be used for out-of-KOF games. NGBC2?

As much as I'd like to see Vanessa and Ramon return, I'd rather have new characters. Some of the characters from TFTP look cool and I think could be interesting in the game. If we have to have old characters, I'd like to see them advance. Honestly, I'd be excited for Billy Kane if he had given up the staff and used moves similar to Geese, kind of like the way Shingo is to Kyo.

I'd hate to see him change THAT much, it it would be nice to see him get some Geese overtones. Like maybe an air stad downward, to mimic a Reppuuken, and a flame version of Raizing Storm.

But I agree with seeing character refreshed, expecially if it emphasizes what was unique about them in the first place. As example, Blue Mary losing a few of her old moves, in place of earning the ability to shift between multiple locks upon "attack grapple", would be pretty cool. It'd be great to see a throw character that could chain multiple throws together in a variety of ways. The few that Goro can do now are already pretty cool, but expand on the idea!

A really useful feature would be a game speed change in training and/or challenge mode. I remember learning guitar and playing songs at maybe half speed, then maybe 70 percent, until 100 percent. A feature like that to practice combos would make an incredibly useful tool for novices like myself.

I don't know, I think that the problem with combos is more about timing than speed, so if you slow it down, maybe will be harder to pull them later, in the other hand, you can learn when you had to cancel the moves, interesting topic

I guess this kind of thing would only apply if they made console a version 1.2 or something since its system changes, but just some things I've noticed...

1. Pushboxes in the middle of sprites are really skinny, makes cross-ups weirder than they should be, others and I have mentioned this before. Would be nice if they could adjust how close you can get to the middle of a sprite so things aren't as random.

2. Input buffer has some flaws, particularly dp conflicting with half circles in the same direction. As an example, dashing into Athena's command throw produces a dp, and if you have 1 drive stock and it hits, a dp drive canceled into a command throw. Funny story, I saw the CPU do this. Even they can't dash and command throw! This has never been a problem in games where Athena, (or anyone else) had both these moves.

3. Make it so inputs stay in the buffer during the GC roll freeze. In past games, you could react to the GC roll screen freeze and stop what you were doing, otherwise you would continue your string and possibly get punished. In XIII, the GC roll freeze virtually nullifies inputs, so even if you input a special, it doesn't come out. To note a specific case, K's cr.B xx flame would actually be punishable by GC rolling the cr.B, but the freeze canceling the inputs makes it so the flame will never come out if you GC roll and he will be safe, without having to react or be mindful of it.

1. Great observation, I've notice that specially on big characters.

2. Very true, this is one of the reasons I've stopped playing Kyo. I was having too many issues doing hcb+K, during fast paced matches I kept on getting his rdp+K instead which is fatal.

3. I'll pay attention to this next time.

ive only had the chance to play the slower crappy version of the game, but i def agree with dandy. since i haven't had the chance to play the game in its full glory i cant see all the things wrong with the game. but ive personally noticed points 1 and 2 as well, lol cause cpu athena has the same problems. im guessing 3 must be true as well. i dont know if snkp will fix the in game writing though, but i hope its possible.

Regarding the extra levels in the iPhone version: I hope they're improved before appearing in the console version.

Of course, the iPhone version doesn't have any background animation, but even then most of these new stages just lack the energy (and spectators) of the main stages. I'd really, really like it if more people could be added to the Esaka stage. Add some stereotypical middle eastern people for the desert stage. Maybe some factory workers for Iori's 95 stage?

I know this is a small thing, but I'd definitely prefer for more consistency between new and old stages.

(Also, funny that Marco is in the background of two stages now [Kyokugen and Jungle]. So he's extra super confirmed to not be a console character.  ;))

I know this is a small thing, but I'd definitely prefer for more consistency between new and old stages.

Well, if you just compare France, India or Japan (sumo stage) with new ones like Esaka, Kyokugen dojo or Iori'95 stage is pretty obvious they look very, very different. Is not only about fat/funny people, is the whole art direction. I think even some character sprites are afected by this art direction change if you compare how different look Athena or Leona, even Women Fighters and how indentical to old titles look Kula and K' sprites.

I agree with you, new stages are lacking people (maybe Iori'95's one doesn't need people on background), but even with more people, the art direction change will be obvious since Nona left the project and new art director is more focused in redraw old NeoGeo style in HD more than refresh and change a bit KOF look, as Nona did. Expect more realism, more old-school looking and less fat/funny/modern style.

2. THIS!

I can't say much for one and three due to my inexperience with XIII but I can say this buffer problem is something I noticed right away. At first I thought it was maybe a speed issue or poor execution (often the case with mediocre players like myself) but this was considerably different. I found it difficult to do these motions with considerable accuracy. The buffer windows are quite large and the controls are very lenient, personally I like it just as bit tighter with certain motions in KOF. Perhaps if more people speak up this will be addressed.

Gotta agree with this.  I much prefer "traditional" 2D fighters such as KoF XII, XIII, CvS 1&2, etc.  Zany games like BlazBlue can be fun sometimes, but I tend to lose interest in those after not too long.  I've always hated MvC.

Ah, okay.

Well, Atlus always hires good voice actors, so there could be a chance at Atlus assisting SNK with the English voice overs.

Right now, I am going to take this rumor as a normal rumor..

Atlus stated that there would be no English voice actors.

That is true.. I also posted a reply to the suggestions topic in the Atlus forums, regarding the reasons of why I suggested an English Dub for the game (http://atlus.com/forum/showpost.php?p=252796&postcount=150).

I know that the game won't have an English Dub, and I understand that greatly, only problem is whether the game will be released on either PSN or on Disc.

There's spoken English in the game so I think it's covered in that regard. The game will be disc-based which is why Gamestop is pre-selling it.

I know that the game won't have an English Dub, and I understand that greatly, only problem is whether the game will be released on either PSN or on Disc.

You know, even during the Arcana Heart 1 issue that brought this thing into knowledge in the first place, the only problem was not having long, drawn out, forgeign language voice for a game, explaining things like story, or being spoken in lengthy cinematics.

Having Japanese only in limited, quick gameplay style (like in almost every fighting game ever released) was never a problem.

Tis the reason why they REMOVED the story voices from AH, but everything else was fine to keep in Japanese.

Most likely, KoF is going to maintain a fully quiet, text-only storyline for all these things, just like in KoF XI, and all KoF's beforehand. So it shouldn't raise any issues.
Title: Re: The King of Fighters XIII Home Port Wishlist

^ Indeed none of the old KOF needed any voice over work. But this is the first time SNKP is doing a stand alone STORY Mode for a Canonical KOF series (MI kinda did that in a way). So to show that they are taking it seriously, having English Voice acting would be nice.

But like its been said several times, having the option to select which language to hear would make everybody happy. Besides, even if BB has some annoying voices, I really appreciate the detail they added. For example when certain characters fight each other, they will scream different things.

Which added a lot to the characters personality and rivalries. If BB didn't have English voices I wouldn't know what they were screaming at each other and maybe I wouldn't appreciate the characters more.

So I don't think that having English Voice option will hurt SNKP, heck, maybe it will help get more people into KOF even if they don't play it competitive. Of course, I say this assuming the game will feature a story mode ala BlazBlue. BlazBlue Arcade had a story mode too, but more off the lines of what you see in KOFXIII, just some small conversation boxes in some matches and an ending. Yet the console version came out and they did a full new story mode, which followed the Arcade version one, but it expanded. So I think SNKP might be trying to do something along those lines.

WHAT DA HECK HAPPENED TO JOO?!  Robert's voiceactor is at his best in this game.

To be honest, I never had liked the English Voices in KOF XII.

And like most of you guys said, it wasn't needed before, but it is needed this time because like how DarKaoZ mentioned, this is the first time SNK is doing a Story Mode for a canonical KOF game. Besides, I can't even understand what Saiki and Evil Ash are saying if the game were to have Japanese voices only, and there are going to be no subtitles during matches, so I find subs to be useless for the in-game experience.

Anyway, observation time!

My newest observation is that since Johnny Yong Bosch, Cristina Vee, Cassandra Morris, Tony Oliver, Patrick Seitz, and Stephanie Sheh (Just to name a few) are guests at Otakon this year, I think this might hint at something related to the game or not... (Hints that the game might get a new English Dub after all? or, are they there just for fun?; I suggested them for Kyo, Athena, Kula, Takuma, Ralf, and Rose, respectively)

My new observation is just a theory/guess, so this is nothing official or whatever.

On what you said about Kyo, Leona, and Ryo's English Voices, that is exactly my view of the voice acting in KOF XII.

And Catherine uses PCB Productions for its English Dub, so if Atlus provides SNK with the assistance in the English voice acting for KOF XIII, there won't be a problem. SFIV, BB, and Catherine all use high-profile Anime voice actors. ;)

Take Laura Bailey (Who I wanted to see play Mai anyway) for example, she was Chun-Li in SFIV, Platinum in BB:CS, and Catherine in Catherine (Obviously). Her "Tohru Honda" voice, or her "Chun-Li" voice can be fitting enough for Mai anyway.

You can say that I am a supporter of Dual Language voice tracks.

So with SF3 Online Edition coming out, I got to taste GGPO on consoles, where as before it was on PC. I know a lot of us were hoping for GGPO for KoF13, and now we're praying for good netcode.

After experiencing Capcom's attempt with SF3 and GGPO on console though... I'm glad KoF13 isn't going to use it. It works great IF the person is in your region, and by far is the best IF your connections are good. If it's yellow bar or below though, it was a slide show for me. In games like SF4 or Blazblue when it gets laggy it gets choppy sure, but I much prefer that kind of lag then so many frames of animation being removed that a dash becomes a teleport from point A to point B.

I'm still wishing for god like net code, and it's possible since Blazblue CT has the best netcode of any console fighter this generation. My only other big hope is that they find a way to include spectator mode through DLC or a patch. MvC3 become a paperweight because I couldn't spectate matches with friends, and coupled together with crap online lag/matchmaking, my only games to enjoy were with friends in private lobbies. It's just too bad none of us had the patience to watch cards hump for more than 30 minutes before going our separate ways... and after a while we all just stopped putting the game in.

KoF13 NEEDS good netcode, but the importance of spectator mode is just a notch under that, because the majority of people buying the game WILL be casual to intermediate level play, and for them being able to spectate and BS around with friends is a must. Even for me, where I feel I'm a little better above intermediate at fighters, I NEED spectator mode to grind it out with 2 buddies, but not be bored when I'm not up fighting so I can watch my opponents and learn/see some patterns.

Final thing to note is SNK should take this time to at least invent a way for the game disc launch to have a method of inputting a spectator mode in a patch or as a DLC. I would see NO PROBLEM paying $5.00-$10.00 2-3 months after release for a spectator mode DLC, to help pay SNK for their extra development time after it.

First and foremost, welcome to Dreamcancel.  Make sure you introduce yourself properly (http://dreamcancel.com/forum/index.php?board=9.0) when you get a chance).

That's a great first post and a lengthy write up.  I was unaware that the GGPO port was less than successful for SF3OE, I thought it would have gone without a hitch especially after demoing it at EVO.

We're all crossing our figures when it comes to netcode and I'm sure SNKP will deliver when the time comes.

I will love to see the option to upload replays on a dedicated server

For example, for those with a kinect, you can upload videos on kinectshare.com

I think that the next step should be being able to upload the replays to that page, and then you can do whatever you want with them.

I think that is better than uploading the videos directly on youtube.

Problem is, I now that maybe the money cost will not be worthy for the company, but who knows, is something that I will love to see one day (Yes, I know, 33, but I hadn't liked that much the feature to be honest)

GGPO works fine for 3SOE,it just if one persons connection sucks of course it's going to be bad. And seeing how you can control  how much teleporting goes on *By setting smoothing* the teleporting can go down but that will affect input delay. To act like 3SOE online wise failed is foolish.

In my opinion, GGPO is better off being used in Capcom-developed games that are getting a re-release, like 3SOE. That is probably as to why I couldn't see GGPO working in KOF XIII.

Also, in the Atlus forums... I just had (http://atlus.com/forum/showpost.php?p=262277&postcount=382) to tell everyone to shut up (http://atlus.com/forum/showpost.php?p=262576&postcount=390) for me to prevent another flamewar from breaking out over English Dubs.

Netcode was the biggest concern in KOF XII, and the reason why XII's netcode failed was because it was designed for excellent broadband completely, as confirmed by Gunsmith of Orochinagi. One of SNK's primary focuses are the netcode itself.

Wow... I didn't think that dubs would be that big of a deal. Personally, English dubs isn't something that this game needs. Especially if they're gonna be as bad as the ones from KOF XII. Those were really awful.

Kyo's XII dub better be an unlockable, or else I'll cancel my preorder.

"How'd you like that heat?"

I also cracked up at the rushed losing quips

Here is my stance on dubs:

Half of the time, the original Japanese voices suck. (Look at Yuri for example, her Japanese voice in the KOF series is annoying). But seriously, this dub bashing is getting old, and the only people that hate dubs are those that watch subs, you guys really need to get used to a dub, even if it is bad.

What this game needs in a future update is a good English dub, and judging from the KOF XIII pre-order sales, that might happen. While I do respect those that like subs, I prefer dubs more.

There is a reason of why Japanese games have a voice language option, so you can switch to the original Japanese voices if you don't want to use the English voices, but people like me will keep the voices to English.

And while I do like subs, they happen to suck half of the time, so in my stance:

Fuck subs, live with a dub. (Counter to MUSOLINI's "Fuck a dub, live with subs")

Uhh.... english dubs... is that what would brings in money? like really, will that even increase sells more than the game having good net code or being less glitchy?

Even if the game had dubs... I'm sure the dubs would have to be like dynasty warriors4+ dubs with well known voice actors or people who can bring the people to like their japanese counter part. There's no need for dubs if the dubs turn out just as bad as SB3... with characters like Masamune and Yukimura left souless.

Well, it will help newcomers understand what the characters are saying if they don't really understand Japanese. And besides, it will be annoying for newcomers if the game has only Japanese voice acting.

The Netcode; however, was a bigger complaint in XII than the voice acting, so I don't see why people would whine over voices if the netcode was actually XII's weak point.

English Voice Dubs are unnecessary.  They wouldn't be HORRIBLE to have or anything, but that time could be spent doing other things.  English Dubs won't make learning moves or playing the game any easier.  They can do it later when they have time to spare.  As of now, focus on other parts of localization.

Like that all important netcode.  Like I've been saying, this is KOF's big chance to get back in the good graces of the FG scene, and actually make more fans than they have in the past.  People are turning on Capcom, Blazblue is niche, MK is starting to die down, and Tekken will be largely meh here until TTT2 gets localized as well.  But to GET that love back, they need to have good netcode, KOF doesn't have enough legs to get there in its absence.  KOF is lukewarm over here reception wise, or at least it was until KOFXII.  It needs that boost.

Ok now which is your problem with yuri, she never did anything to you.

To be honest, Japanese voices are awesome, there seem to had more variety than english, and IMO the only fighting game with good english dub is SF IV, and still produces some butt hurt in comparision to the japanese voices

That being said, even though is not necesary, let's not act like if they included the option, they will waste time to focus on other points, the only negative is that it will spend more money, and will not bring any users to the game so will be a waste

Its mainly her Japanese voice, its too high pitched and annoying.

Anyway, since KOF XIII has been delayed. Will they add an English Dub? and/or add Spectator Mode? I listed English Dub because it is probable that the game is delayed because Sony most likely denied the game for a disc release the first time.

So, I guess the Announcer/Raiden's voice doesn't apply with the policy, could adding English voices for all characters solve that problem? Who knows...

I was actually surprised that the XII English voices were pretty decent - I always prefer original voices hands down no matter what the language is though. @marchefelix , trust me think it could've been much worse. I would have LMAO if they got all the English done Geese style by the Japanese actors.
The great thing I'm looking forward to is all of the additional voice acting in XIII console. Just watching some of the Atlus vids on YT, you'll notice chrs saying different things when they are knocked down which are not in arcade.

Spectator mode would be great with the amount of interest people have in it, but not at the cost of lag which I saw on NeoGaf that sites that as the reason for not having... but we shall see.

Heh, I think Yuri is meant to sound crazed like that - tis part of her charm I suppose. Something that did grate on me back in the day with older KOFs was
PSYCHO BALL!! PSYCHO BALL!! PSYCHO SWORD!! PSYCHO BALL!! PSYCHO BALL!! PSYCHO SWORD!! PSYCHO BALL!! PSYCHO BALL!! PSYCHO SWORD!! PSYCHO BALL!! PSYCHO BALL!!

I think I have just grown use to it though - definitely gives you incentive to blast down the spammer.

So true; her voice was very annoying back then, but not as annoying as my dumb brothers insisting that Yashiro's  ;dn ;db ;bk +  ;k is more annoying than that. They also say that K''s  ;dn ;db ;bk +  ;k is more annoying too (that I might believe).

What's poor Kaori Horie ever done to deserve that, eh? ;) I've actually enjoyed her voice since the beginning. Reminds me of Nicole's voice from Guardian heroes, too (which is impossible, since Kaori does little else but KoF, and Nicole's voice ended up being Pikachu from Pokemon, lol), and I think they both very well fit that "cute Japanese girl" character type.

I really enjoyed the early days of being introduced to all the japanese talk in video games. Still do now, really. It's awkward at first, but it ends up having the same charm as listening to exaggerated move declarations and yells in martial arts movies. It adds something to fighting games, that localized VA actually detracts from.

I kinda think it's good for gamers to get used to another culture's vocal taste and ways. And KoF is as "Japanese" as they come. I think learning EXACTLY what it is, is one of the best parts of playing it, really. These voices ARE the characters. These actors have been doing skits at presentations, and vocal drama CDs and songs as these characters since the mid 90s! I've heard these guys so long, it's almost like I've had actual conversations with them, lol. I barely even think "I wish the person would stop shooting Psycho Balls!", it's more like "Man, Athena's being annoying! Time to shut her up!" ;)

I guess it's partially different, because SF started off with very plain vocal synth voicework. So I have little problem hearing them as others (and it's cool hearing Ryu as Kyle Herbert, English Gohan!). But whenever I hear KoF characters dubbed in english, it's a constant "who'se that guy pretending to be Kyo?!?!" type deal, haha.

We'll always have the Maximum Impact series to satisfy our curiosity as to what English KoF would sound like, even if none of the 2D games ever get localized VA. I'd actually encourage people to help learn about the Japanese Seiyuus, look up translation FAQs by the late K Megura, and start recognizing a bit of japanese by ear! Unique "lost in translation" quirks, like how Yuri ends her sentences with "-chi!", Or Robert and Kensou's unique Kansai dialect use, are nice to appreciate, once you know what you're looking for.

Good thing about many KoF JP VA's is that you don't hear them many places. The archetype, sure, but the actor, not so much. Whomever would have been used by Atlus probably would have been VERY familiar (same cast of SFIV and BB, for instance). I did KINDA like that about MI; they were mostly unknowns! But that can be a blessing and curse, for obvious reasons...

"SHADAAAAH!! SHADAAAH!!", gotta agree that that's sort of up there.

Like SAB mentions, the voice characterizations in all of the hit SNK titles are hell good I must say. Just about everyone stinks of personality unlike a good number of other fighters I can think of. What's nice about Japan is the sheer number of game/anime VAs that are available. SNK though seems to pay particular attention to the voices which seems obvious considering the very minimal amounts of VA overlap across the typically large cast of KOF characters.

As far as KOF goes, Iori I think is by far one of the best. Love the evil laugh Flame Iroi has for his NM.

One archetype that doesn't please me so much is the 'high-pitched madman' type voice. This would be Hwa in KOF, Freeman in GMOTW, and Mukuro in LB2. That sort of voice tends to work better with smaller scrappier characters like with Choi where I think it fits.
