Title: The Dream Cancel Wiki and YOU! - Dream Team steady mobbin'
Post by: krazykone123 on October 29, 2010, 10:36:45 PM
So you wanna be a contributor but you don't know how or what to contribute? well let's fix that then, the wiki is in dire need of updates so we'll put you to work there, it's quite a simple process actually just read the information below then you too can become a contributing member of this website, but first I know you have some questions so let's get that out of the way first

Q: I don't have an account, what do I do!?
A: PM nilcam about, he should help you out

Q: I don't know what to work on first?
A: Hit the "random page" button on the left side of the wiki, did you find an empty page? work on it then

Q: Wait, but I don't play KOF
A: Then why are you here? you can hang around and lurk I guess if that's what you want to do

Q: If I'm working on a page where do I post to keep track of my work?
A: Post it in this topic, seriously we want to hear what you're working on, whether it's a little bit of info or a lot it still counts, just post a link to what you're working on here, you can even put a 1~100% next to the link to gauge how much you've done

Q: What if I need help?
A: Once again post it in this topic and somebody should help you out

Q: Where can I get KOF information to add to the wiki?
A: A bunch of places

http://www21.atwiki.jp/kof13/pages/40.html (http://www21.atwiki.jp/kof13/pages/40.html)
http://www20.atwiki.jp/kof2002um/ (http://www20.atwiki.jp/kof2002um/)
http://www33.atwiki.jp/kof98um/ (http://www33.atwiki.jp/kof98um/)
http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/game/50324/ (http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/game/50324/)
http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/game/48855/ (http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/game/48855/)
http://comesonobravo.jugem.jp/?eid=1638 (http://comesonobravo.jugem.jp/?eid=1638)
http://www.gamefaqs.com/ (http://www.gamefaqs.com/)

I frequent these places a lot as they have A LOT of useful information, for gamefaqs I suggest that you *DO NOT COPY ANY MOVE DESCRIPTIONS IN THE GUIDES*, make up your own please

Q: I can't speak/read Japanese so I have no clue how to get any kind of useful information from the places called "atwiki" or "BBS"
A: Disregard it then, but if you really think it's useful then post it here then someone will help you out

Q: Can I use google translate?
A: If the translation ends up in engrish then no

Q: I'm kinda lazy so I don't think I can add really long drawn out descriptions for every single move
A: Then just put the move name then leave it alone, post what you did here then someone will (probably) finish the rest of it

Q: Can I request a wiki for a specific SNK game?
A: No, well if we fill up the KOF wiki's then maybe

Q: What if I'm working on a video about BnB's/Combos/HowTo video?
A: You can post it here if you want to, then post it in the the designated character thread

Q: If I'm not contributing anything can I still ask for a specific wiki page to be worked?
A: Sure, but don't expect info right away

If you have any other questions post here

The King of Fighters XIII wiki

IMO this section has high standards, we (well maybe just me and possibly nilcam) want this section to look good, really GOOD, so here's what's expected

*character image goes here*, yes a character image will go here just to show what page are they on

Upload file, browse image whether it's in the folder/desktop/etc, then go back to the character page, "Edit" then put the tags [[Image:*image name*.png/jpeg/whatever]]

==Gameplay Overview==
This section is used to describe what the character can do and specifically what they're good at, are they proficient with throws/grappling? can they fight well in the corner? can they zone well? do they have unique move set-ups? are they a speedy character or are they slow? etc. Also explain the moves and what/where they excel at, this section is supposed to get people interested about said character and possibly have them in their team.

===Gameplay Notes===

===Pros===
- Info about what the character excels goes here, 4-6 descriptions is usually good enough

===Cons===
- info about what the character succumbs to, once again just a couple descriptions is good

==Normals==
This is the section for normals whether it's jump/stand/crouch, nothing goes here as it's just a placeholder

===Standing===
===Jumping===
===Crouching===
===Blowback Attack===

*image(s) goes here*

'''normal goes here, it's suggested that you abbreviate it but it's not required e.g. st.A:''', input goes here, description goes here, can it be used as an anti-air? does it chain with other moves? is it cancel-able? does it lack range? does it have a slow/fast start-up? note all of it here, this template goes all the normal sections (stand/crouch/jump/CD)

- Cancellable: info goes here, if it isn't cancel-able just erase this part

- Hit Detection: high/mid/low etc

- Damage: Yup that goes here too

==Throw==
*Image goes here*

'''*Move Name here* (*input here*)''' - **description here**

- Can be broken, regular throws can be broken so this will always go here, Air throws also go in this section, they also cannot be broken so be sure to note that

- Hit Detection: Close, throws are always close range

- Damage:

==Command Moves==
*picture goes here*

'''*Move Name here* (*input here*)''' - **description here**

- Since it's a command normal be sure to describe what the character does when they use it, do they use their arm or leg? is it fast? is it slow? is it free cancel-able or is it free cancel-able only if you cancel into it first? does it hit high/Mid/Low? how many hits does it do? which hit is cancel-able? do it combo well from lights (A/B) or strong attacks (C/D)? does it do a lot of hit-stun? does it have really bad recovery? is it safe or not, once again be descriptive

- *Cancellable specific information goes here*

- Hit Detection:

- Damage:

==Special Moves==
*picture goes here*

'''*Move Name here* (*input here*)''' - **description here**

- If there is a difference between the weak & strong version be sure to describe it, once again be as descriptive as possible

- *Cancellable specific information goes here*

- Hit Detection:

- Damage:

For EX attacks put the info below the regular version of the move

*Be sure to put EX parentheses here* = *input goes here* - *EX description goes here"

- *Cancellable specific information goes here*

- Hit Detection:

- Damage:

==Desperation Moves==
*picture goes here*

'''*Move Name here* (*input here*)''' - **description here**

- *Cancellable specific information goes here*

- Hit Detection:

- Damage:

If there is another variation of the move simply put the information below the regular version of the move, e.g. Kyo's Air Orochinagi

'''*Move Name here* (*input here*)''' - **description here**

- *Cancellable specific information goes here*

- Hit Detection:

- Damage:

*Be sure to put EX parentheses here* = *input goes here* - *EX description goes here"

- *Cancellable specific information goes here*

- Hit Detection:

- Damage:

==Neomax==
*picture goes here*

'''*Move Name here* (*input here*)''' - **description here**

- Hit Detection:

- Damage:

==Combos==

(HD) - Activate Hyperdrive

(HDC) - Hyperdrive Cancel

(DC) - Drive Cancel

(SC) - Super Cancel

(MC) - MAX Cancel

DMG - Damage

Some templates you may end up using

'''No Drive/No Meter'''

'''No Drive/1 Meter'''

'''50% Drive/1 Meter'''

'''No Drive/2 Meters'''

'''50% Drive/2 Meters'''

'''2 Meter Additions'''

'''3 Meter Additions'''

'''4 Meter Additions'''

==Tips==
- Info about tricks and stuff go here, e.g. To do Leona's short hop V-Slasher press  ;dn ;df ;fd ;uf ;fd ;df ;dn ;db ;bk+ ;a/ ;c

==Miscellaneous==
- Character sprite will go here, along with colors

===Other===
- other pictures and junk will go here

==Links & References==
- You can link Tournament videos here if you want to

'''Technical Reference'''
- Yup that goes here

'''Training Mode Videos'''
- Training modes of course will go here

[[Category: King of Fighters XIII]] this goes at the absolute end of the page

I've got almost all of the graphics for the 2k2UM section done. I plan on putting in some time on that this weekend in preparation for the XBLA release.

Good to hear, I'm gonna add stuff to the K' and Leona XIII wiki's so you guys can look forward to seeing an update of those through out the next couple days

btw nilcam can you sticky this thread?

when listing combos, would you guys prefer move names or commands? personally i prefer move names with the required strength ("move name B" for example of the light version) since it helps me visualize better. i'm transcribing stuff from the JP wiki, but i see that the DC wiki tends to use commands. let me know what works best before i start updating the character threads.

What I liked to do is at least write the notation of the command once along with the name in the same post, and then there on out I just refer it to the name (unless the name is so obscure that the notation is easier to write).  e.g.  After Trap Shot B (hcf B), do another Trap Shot D.  Trap Shot cancelled into...

for example, i had combos written out like this (since thats how JP wiki lists it):

2C> 3D> EX Venom Strike> Venom Strike B> Tornado Kick D (1st hit only)> (DC) EX Aerial Venom Strike> Venom Strike B> Tornado Kick D [522]

but, it looks like people prefer commands, so i'll retype before i start posting. probably wont get anything new up until tuesday though. if people want specific characters done first, let me know. order doesn't matter to me.

I think if you have the movelist right above, stating which commands corresponds to which move name it shouldn't be so bad.  However, I suppose if the person reading it wasn't familiar with any of her moves and kept having to re-check the legend then it could be a tad tedious.

If I know the character moves names, than that's definitely easier to read. However, if I don't know the move names it can be a real nightmare to read. Out of courtesy to new players then, I'd suggest using commands.

I'm usually a command person but Kane317's suggestion of listing the command in parentheses after the first reference to the move works as well. I'd prefer not to use numeric notation as the rest of the Wiki is using qcf, cr., etc. With laptops being so common, not everyone has a numpad on their keyboard.

I like to make people think they came up with the conclusion themselves hehe.

Just put them all. I'm sure the reader can decide which ones they feel are impractical.

Been adding a few things to your Chin wiki, his moveset is a lot more complicated than it looks, all those command moves and stances, what's the input for EX Nikikyaku?
Title: Re: The Dream Cancel Wiki and YOU! - Puttin' in Work

i've been noticing that some characters on the JP wiki have combos (those 100% dmg 5 stock combos) that seem to be untested since they don't have damage numbers. would you still like those transcribed? or would you rather wait until someone has actually playtested them to confirm their validity? i mean, i could always add an "untested/needs confirming section" for those who want to try and could update as necessary.

note: i also forgot that people wanted commands over names, so all the work i've done so far is in move names still. should i just post and edit later, or would you guys rather wait? i've been kinda busy lately so i apologize for not having updates put up sooner.

I want to help with the Kula XIII wiki, and maybe other XIII characters if i can (or if my work is good enough), but i still haven't played the game.

The most i can do is post images of each movement with their properties, trying to make it look like the Leona and K's wikis.

I have the scans of the XIII mook, and i can use the other wikis to know when a movement is cancelable, the damage, etc.

I'm accepting any tips to help me with the wikis :)

I just sent a PM to nilcam a minute ago.

Worked on the Kula XIII wiki.

Something i noticed from the XIII wikis is the size of the images, the images in some pages are bigger than the images in other pages.

For example, just compare the images between the pages of Ash, Leona, Chin, K' and maybe Terry with the pages of Kyo, Elisabeth, Iori, Vice.

Which size is the "default" ?

I wanted to resize some of Chin's images too, felt they were too large.

UPDATE: Chin is 95% complete.  Need some proofreading and some resizing of images and I'm done for now.

How general a strategy are you talking about? Each character page can have a strategy section.

On the 2002UM side, I'm filling in the basics of each character page. It takes about 20 minutes per character to transcribe from the moveset menu to the wiki. I'll do 3 or 4 characters per day until the basics are done. If you'd like to add in info on moves (description, damage, etc.), just bullet the info under the move by putting an * (space) before each line.

On a sidenote: going to start on the NGBC wiki this week, and help out more on the 2K2UM portions if possible...

When I say general strategy, I simply mean a synopsis of how to play a certain character (i.e.- best anti airs to use, 'X' character is a zoning type, so you want to use this move and that move to setup, best and worst matchups, frame traps, etc.). I just want to help put up some info so people can get a general feel for that character by using the basic style that character was built for, so that it can be easier for new people to pick up whatever character they decide to learn... I personally don't know all of the ins and outs, but I do know some to be competitive, and hopefully that can help both newcomers and vets learn more about their particular character(s)...

For example, 2k2UM Mature's wiki I tried putting some descriptive info on moves and what they look like, plus whether or not the move can be cancelled into something else, or if it were a good move, or whatever... Aside from that, if there were to be a general strategy section for her, it might mention some things already stated in the individual movelist (for redundancy purposes, and to help the player understand that this move is important because "fill in the blank"), but it will also have things like the play style for that particular character, good block strings to use, follow-ups to use after a CD attack, best ways to do a BC combo, anti-top tier strats, and maybe even ways to beat the boss...

I think having a general strategy section for individual characters is a great idea. I would put that after the move list and before the combo section. Part of me thinks it would be good before the move list but that sort of information would probably be read once by each player. That's my rationale for page placement.

Combos added to the King (02UM) wiki page

Also requesting a character image for the Angel (02UM) wiki page, I'll finish the rest later on

Eventually we can even add some minor (since everything is not included from the Mook) frame data in the wikis too.

Yeah some of it is in there, but not enough to really make a designated section for it though

guess they can go somewhere under the move names or something

I added some further explanations of various movement and defensive options in the KOF2002UM wiki, I hope the information was translated properly and isn't redundant to anyone.

I'm kinda sad that the 98UM wiki hasn't gotten any love, maybe I'll try adding some stuff there, but I can't do it alone.

Is there a list of changes for all of the characters in KOF2k2UM??? It would be good to put that tidbit of info in for the characters, as it could keep people from attempting something that only works in OG2k2 and not in 2k2UM...

Also, are there any "training" vids like DJB13's CvS2 vids that are worth embedding in the wiki if possible??? Krazykone123 I saw a Vice video from your YouTube link, and it got me thinking about that... If not have training vids for 2k2UM, it would be cool to at least have some for KOFXIII...

Finished the NGBC wiki info for Tung Fu Rue. Need to find the actual name for  ;fd ;d , and fix up a few things here and there... I will also input a general strategy portion in there was well this week.

Nilcam, do you happen to have a particular pic for Tung you'd like to use?? If not, I think I could get one... Thanks.

Some of them are listed in the move evaluation section (usually in blue text), the rest of it can be learned via playing the game.

There aren't much, but if I find any I'll pass them onto the wiki.

I definitely plan to do some for XIII when it's released on console (NTSC-J/US whatever), I'll do more for 02UM but my work schedule makes it rather difficult.

Nah there's no prize sadly (the title header is just a clever reference to the 1950/60'S), anyway if you want to help you don't need to do anything brain racking, you can do something simple, most of the empty KOF XIII (and some 2002UM) pages have movelists that look a lot like

"*input* = *move name* (EX)"

but I would prefer the format to be more like

"*move name* = "*input here*"
(EX)

makes it easier to edit, if you can do that you'll be cool, if you don't want to do that you can make a 2002UM character thread that hasn't been made yet

Thanks. I'm hoping to do some more for nbc this week. I do feel that granted 2k2 is better than nbc system-wise, but the game has better netcode, and seemed completely overlooked by many because it wasn't a traditional KoF game... It definitely needs more hype, as it was a better SNK cross-over game...

Nice job on the Tung Fu Rue page. One request, please mark Throws as a section header (==Throws==) and for the normals, use '''Close''', etc. It bolds the words but does not increase the size.

Thanks for the effort! And I'll play you once I study it some more.

Thanks man... Roger dodger on the request, I'll make sure that gets done for future wiki additions... We can do training sessions on nbc if you want, just pm me here or on xbl... The system is quite easier to learn (no hops, universal throw command, etc).

~~new~~

I just finished Billy's general strats section, and made a few edits since I was able to test some things out last night... General strats probably needs a good look over to see if it needs to be sectioned more, or if its missing some info...

Added a bit to the df.D slide description.  As for the combo section, I'll probably go and change all the 2C and 3Ds to d.C and df.D respectively for you later.  The number notation works well if you have a number pad in front of you and slightly more universal if you can't read English but I hate having to look at a number pad and it's also character side dependent (1p bias).

I use commas coz it's easier to do on my phone lol.  Generally both are accepted.   Taking a step further we could use commas to differentiate links (,) vs cancels (>) and so forth.

I think I started using that notation, because for some characters there are stuff that are cancelled and some parts that aren't. Once a combo starts getting really long, it's gonna be super hard to differentiate what parts are cancelled and which aren't if it's not specified

Added a bit to the df.D slide description.  As for the combo section, I'll probably go and change all the 2C and 3Ds to d.C and df.D respectively for you later.  The number notation works well if you have a number pad in front of you and slightly more universal if you can't read English but I hate having to look at a number pad and it's also character side dependent (1p bias).

thanks kane, i'll keep it in mind for future updates. i didn't even think of the player side bias lol also, i'm thinking of adding a subsection to the Combo area with "Combo Starters" to kinda show the variation available when initiating combos. for example, i hate how the combos i listed generally start with (2C, 3D) since i usually use (d.B, d.A, df.D) or (s.D, df.D), but that's how the JP wiki lists them sooo... yeah. also, i didn't ask, but are commas ( , ) or greater than symbols ( > ) easier to look at? personally it doesn't matter to me.

I use commas coz it's easier to do on my phone lol.  Generally both are accepted.   Taking a step further we could use commas to differentiate links (,) vs cancels (>) and so forth.

I think I started using that notation, because for some characters there are stuff that are cancelled and some parts that aren't. Once a combo starts getting really long, it's gonna be super hard to differentiate what parts are cancelled and which aren't if it's not specified

i noted cancels by using (DC), (HDC), or (SC). it's easier to see, IMO, at least for me anyway.

Joe, Kim and Kensou have had their moves' cancel and damage info added.

At some point, you may want to switch from "Characters that need attention / work" to a percentage complete system.

i.e. Hwa Jai: 5%, Raiden: 100%

Would it be a good idea to include more video links to the wiki's? Like:

1.) character specific tutorials

2.) character specific combo videos

3.) match videos (featuring a top player using a certain character)

4.) examples of game mechanics (like the video linked explaining the jump system for the KOF2002UM wiki)?

Also, this can be used to link to a direct time in video: http://youtubetime.com/

Any thoughts??

Those sound like great ideas to me. We should list them at the bottom of the wiki pages in the Notes section.

The 2K2UM wiki is shaping up nicely. As of now, the Billy Kane page is the gold star standard. It's pretty damned amazing. Very good work!

A few things to note regarding formatting and abbreviations in the 2K2UM section:

Also, please remember to click on the protect tab at the top of the page and set permissions to Administrators only in order to protect all of this work we've put in.

Thanks!

Any guidelines like that for the XIII wiki?

I've used the P and K notation a couple times.

NBC Wiki for Ryo is done... I'm going to try to keep the format for those as close to each other as possible, so more than likely I'll do some more work tomorrow... Edited Geese's page a bit as well... Gotta get in touch with Dark Geese, as he has some info I'd like to put in the wiki with his permission though...

As far as the video links go, is there any way to have an actual video database, or is that gonna be hefty for the server???

I'm definitely down for this, seeing as some characters do better than others when fighting particular characters because of certain strats... Plus certain "anomalies" occur when certain characters fight also... I don't know of any character-specific combos though...

I'm all for any amount of visual aid to help people learn the characters.  It's really crazy how far we've come in the information age and there's no reason we shouldn't take advantage of it.  People should be learning 3x or 4x faster than we did back in the days when e-mail was consider super privileged high-tech.

  • Instead of P and K we use A/C and B/D, respectively.

This is the only one I kinda disagree on, I think the easiest notation to read while being equally concise should be utilized.  I think P/K/A/B/C/D all have their places.  Let's say a combo needs a specific strength like Liz's dp+C into dp+A, we should obviously indicate which one.  However, if we're talking about Ex moves (perhaps this pertains more so to XIII) it gets real cluttered listing it as Ex qcb+AC (vs Ex qcb+P) especially when you're listing longer combos.  Furthermore, sometimes you want to indicate that a combo can use either button A or C so leaving it as P makes more sense instead of writing out A or C every time.  Lastly, I like to also list "DM" and "Ex" because I found when I'm glancing at longer combos, I want to know how many stocks this combo uses so scan for the "DM"s and "Ex"s but that's me, it might be overkill.

In short, it doesn't really matter when you're listing out their movesets with A/C instead of P, but when you're listing long HD combos you want to be a concise as possible without omitting pertinent information.

What do you guys feel about this?

Oops! I omitted "in movelists" to that statement.

What I meant was
Instead of P and K we use A/C and B/D, respectively, in movelists.

In combo listings, I think keeping it as clean as possible is very important, especially on those long-ass HD combos in XIII.

Sounds good, as long you fill up the wiki page along with it, half and half it if you have to, you can give it it's own designated section at the end.

Anyway gonna hook up the Athena (2002UM) wiki page next, I see that the O. Shermie (2002UM) template is up but no one is working on, I'll take it if no one wants to do it lol.

Desmond came up with the idea, anyway Desmond if you're familiar with "Intsant Overheads" think you could add some info about them to the Offense section on the 02UM page?

O. Shermie wiki (2002UM) page should be done by tommorow, I didn't quiet on the XIII wiki's btw, they're just on hold atm.

Ok, I inserted what I knew first hand about them but I don't have any deeper knowledge of them unfortunately.

Yup, it will be cool to get those JPN videos up, it will be extremely helpful.

all jumping attacks are overheads, but it doesn't necessarily make them "instant overheads". instant overheads are usually applicable to jumping attacks which have very fast startup with low hitboxes. a fairly common example is leona's neutral j.D into v-slasher. because of the downward angle of the attack, if you j.D immediately after a neutral jump, the active frames hit low enough even on a crouching opponent ,hence, instant since it's pretty hard to react to.

i didn't mean to add strategy/gameplay to the thread, but i figured i'd throw it in there since i looked that part over. also, i don't really want to mess around with the 2k2 wiki since i don't really play that game anymore. feel free to use this information, however, and delete this post at your discretion.

looks good. you may also want to add that cancelled overheads also lose knockdown properties (leona's f+B, K's f+A, etc.) and can be further cancelled into specials/DMs.

i don't remember if going into an overhead straight from a BC cancel keeps its overhead properties as if the string was reset. in XIII, it's a common strategy to HD cancel a blockstring and go into a standing overhead, since the HD activation (BC in 2k2's case) resets the string and the overhead is counted as if it was done as a standalone move. it's pretty specific and situational though so i don't know if it would really go in that section or not. it's a good potential mixup for characters with overheads, that would be good to note somewhere.

come to think of it, i didn't see a section going over BC/MAX mode (though i might have just overlooked it). i don't even remember if you can BC cancel if the prior hits are blocked, so disregard what i said if it's irrelevant.

Thanks for your input!

For ADX sound format games (like MvC2/CvS2/NH3/etc.) there is a method to replacing the music in the game with whatever tracks you want, first you have to rip the game, then use Audacity to re-format mp3's/WAV files to convert them to the correct format (usually requires DOS/Command Line Prompt), then you have to rename the music files according to where you want them to play and replace them, then burn the new edited version of the game on a CD-R or run it on a emulator, that's about all the steps I remember.

I did it with a couple of my PS2 games back in 2006~2007, it takes a bit of work but the outcome is pretty boss.

Anyone with some knowledge about any characters in this game please drop some knowledge in the wiki, or post it up in the appropriate thread, and someone working on the wiki will... It will be very appreciated!!!

Little sidebar: you might read that I refer to it as NBC vice NGBC. The Japanese refer to it as NBC many times, and its quicker to type (lazy right? lol)...

Maybe a few of us here can help, we can just watch and point out whatever is going on from our understanding like:

1:24: trying to connect whatever move from whatever move
1:42: this is combo is, C, F+A, qcb+b
2:32: this move is an overhead, has invincibility frames etc

Then from there you can just copy and paste them according to the right time in the annotations?

EDIT: 2002UM templates for Yamazaki, and Takuma are up and are waiting more detail and information. :)

KOF XIII Wiki "To Do" list
[X] 1. Basic info for the wiki pages complete
[ ] 2. Mook Pics, Sprites, etc.
[ ] 3. Descriptions, Combos, in-depth info
[ ] 4. Frame Data/Specifics, Strats, Videos, Match-up Data
[ ] 5. Revision 2.0
[ ] 6. ???

I'd like to get all the mook pics up and stuff by the end of the year but there's no rush, Rex you got a pay pal account? I'd buy you a Coke or somethin' if you weren't so far away.

that said, you guys are all doing a great job on the wiki so far. it's a whole lot more work than i thought it would be, but it's shaping up really well. i wish i was as dedicated as nilcam and krazy, and hopefully with a little more free time coming up, i'll be able to do so.

Moving on, I added more combos to the Elisabeth wiki page, and I plan to completely revise the Kyo wiki page but I decided to just start with his combo section first.

Added extra primer info for Mr. Karate, and Yuki. Also added a chart showing all of the characters' ultimate juggle moves, with an explanation as to what that actually is... Lemme know if it needs some sprucing up or if I'm missing something (i.e. - a move)...

Quick question about the 2k2um wiki... I know its obviously too much to put every matchup for each character, plus this isn't SF, but does anybody have any info regarding the "best" and "worst" matchup for a particular character??? Just wondering...

Added more combos to the Kyo (XIII), Maxima (2002UM) should be done by tomorrow, and added some examples to the OTG (2002UM) section as well.

How about a section dedicated to air specific moves for the 2002UM Offense section? information about cross-ups/jump-ins/meaty attacks/Air-to-Air attacks/comboing into stand/crouch normals, Air DM's, etc.

Empty Jumps could go in the Defense section, info about button strengths, CD's, Reverse knockdowns, Hard knockdowns would be cool too, btw I can help with the Max Mode section whenever you get it going Desmond.

Hmm, how about team specific match-up pages? I mean it'll take A LOT of work but I think would be cool to compile information for stuff like

"This character has trouble against this character because"
"This character has the advantage over this character because"
"This move beats that move"
"This move trades with that move"
"This move loses to this move"
"If they use this, counter with this"
"Watch out for this"
and so on, just basic but thorough stuff.

Speaking of that, do you think it's possible for a "tier list" to be made based on who has the most priorities for normals???

Ai(NGBC) is about 98% done... A/D Assaults are being put in the ones that have been worked on. Yuki is complete... I think Iori is done for now, only thing left would be extra info...

I'm sure there's a list somewhere, I'll go check the usual places

I'm still looking for NGBC frame data but I'm having a hard time, gonna comprise a list of changes/differences between K9999 and Nameless

General Wiki questions:

1) Why is it that the game's main page always lists the characters at the bottom? It seems to me that that's what most people will want to go to from that page, so it seems odd to keep it at the very bottom of the page. Just my opinion.

2) The main page says that the reason why 2K2UM Wiki is included is because it's closest to XIII's system. That's true, but it really doesn't explain why Wikis for 98UM, NGBC or FF Special are included. I guess my point is: we don't really need to offer a justification for games anymore, do we? These games got Wikis because our community is interested in learning more about them. Isn't that enough?

Good questions, Rex. As the system information sections have grown exponentially, we need to address the first. I'll look into that today. Feel free to make suggestions.

I'll also rewrite the intro. I added the reasoning behind adding 2002 as a means to maintain transparency and explain what some may see as an arbitrary decision.

Edit: After looking over the wikis, the placement of the character list seems fine on all of them except for 2K2UM. That game system is filled in so thoroughly that it takes forever to get to the character list. I think we should either make a detailed information on the game engine page so that the main wiki page only has the introduction, basic notations and character list or move the character list to under the introduction.

Should just make a quick link to the teams, and links for the individual characters within the teams...

It would be kinda cool if you used the team pictures for the wiki as an actual links for the individual characters, and once on the actual page of that particular character, use the jpeg that has that character highlighted...

It would be kinda flashy but accessible (in theory)...

What type of running charge are we talking about?  Like Leona or Kim running forward and doing a d~u+P/K or are we talking about dash command throw (or am I totally off)?

What type of running charge are we talking about?  Like Leona or Kim running forward and doing a d~u+P/K or are we talking about dash command throw (or am I totally off)?

taken from the 2k2UM wiki:

""Running Charge" is a simple but useful technique that allows special attacks that require a vertical charge to come out whilst executing a run, the trick is to start running (press f,f) then move the stick/directional pad so that it's pointing in the down-forward direction but continue to hold, then quickly slide it to the up (ub/u/uf) position then press the designated face button then the move will come out, the trick is to hold down-forward so that you'll run and buffer the charge time at the same time, if you want to super cancel the charge move it would require you to buffer the input during the charge move when at times can get really difficult."

so to answer your question, yes, this applies to charge moves. seems like it only applies to d~u moves. though, i'm not sure if this still works in XIII anyway.

You guys should make a few character threads first, and if the interest is their then we can go ahead and make a wiki for it otherwise we should work with what we have, as much as I would like to see one we need to focus now instead of later.

Personally I'd really like to make a Samurai Showdown Tenka wiki too but I'm just too busy :/, maybe if I bug Nocturnal I could get him and Giby to make a real nice Garou wiki.

The KOF 2002UM wiki looks fantastic guys, but I'm gonna take a break for a little bit because I feel it's necessary, I'll still work on a few pages but just don't expect me to get as much done as I usually do.

Anyway migrations is workin' on his KOF 94 thread which looks good so I suppose you guys can expect a wiki entry for that somewhere down the line, anyway I'll be working on the Samurai Shodown Tenka thread for a bit, if you guys still want me to work on somethin' particular just holla at me thru PM, or this thread.

You guys run at your own pace from now on.

Discuss at [http://dreamcancel.com/forum/index.php?topic=#### Dream Cancel]

Replace the #### with the number in the URL.

I made a template for normal attack information (http://www.dreamcancel.com/wiki/index.php?title=Template:Normals). Dunno what else it needs though and if it's good enough for the wiki. I think it does make character pages look neater with tables than just a bulleted list.

Also, I have to admit, the template was made for KoF XIII.

Think you could add a "into/from" combo chart to the table? and speaking of the table is their anyway to make it a little bigger? some of the descriptions look very cramped when I add them to it.

Gonna run a spell check through some of the pages, errors/proofreading etc.

Edit:
New table (http://www.dreamcancel.com/wiki/index.php?title=Template:Kof_Normals_Info). I just removed the "Description" from the table and didn't add the Combos From/Into anymore as I figured it would look restricted.

I would just like to say that helps me out alot. I'ma '98 player and im trying to get better at 2002 with the cancels and the running charge tactic to cancels that you explained in the video.

If you're interested in cancels then you'll have to peep the info Desmond put up on the wiki, running charge is an old tech from the earlier games, it just looks a lot cooler in 2k2 because of all the super canceling options that come with it. The likelihood of you catching someone with fluctuates, someone who isn't aware of the technique and tries to do a crappy reversal.

Quote
Thanks, a bunch and also I say again you guys are doing a excellent job with the Dream Cancel Wiki. Its all coming along.

It looks good but there's still a lot that needs to be done, I don't like to settle for less so I have to criticize everything including my own work. It might come off sounding like I'm whining at times but it is what it is, gotta keep raising that bar son.

LMAO my first match on 2002 was against some guy from Japan and i thought i was hot shit because the amount of time i put into 2k2um but this dude put me down like a sick dog. I was actually happy because now i can finally challenge some parts of the world with decent connection and improve more by learning from them.

Next time anyone sees me in the IRC, try using or even spamming '/me pokes Aenthin' so I can get an alert. :3

Anyway, can I have some input on the template (http://www.dreamcancel.com/wiki/index.php?title=Template:Kof_Normals_Info) I made? Should I undock it from the right side of the screen? Should I add more columns for the other buttons? Etc...

So guys I've been thinking, would yall want pictures of normals/special attacks on the 2k2um wiki? I was thinking it could be a little like the XIII with all the pictures from the mook and junk, because some people respond better to visual examples than my crappy grammar/sentence structure. My (well my brother's) capture card can take pics and the process is pretty quick so I wouldn't really mind doing it. This could go anywhere so I thought I'd just pose the question to you guys first.

Yeah having pics could definitely help those who are trying new characters out, and those who get confused with moves and the range at which some moves hit... Plus it makes the wiki look more complete... Prima guides who?? Bradygames what??

Ok will do, I plan to add the whiff animations as well, like for command grabs and stuff.

I added a few to the Vice (2k2um) page first, looks a little messy right now but I'll clean it up, I didn't want to make the images too big because it'll stretch the page so they might look small at first.

I plan to do this for SS Tenka, and NGBC too when I get the time.

That's looking good, Kane!

I've been looking over SRK's MvC3 Wiki and I'm getting Wiki envy. I'm starting to research changing colors, embedding video and other ways to improve the appearance of our wiki. The XIII wiki is coming along nicely, but I think we need to get a general game engine section added.

It's looking good, Kane! The Gameplay Overview section is really comprehensive. My suggestion, for future updates to her page, would be to add descriptions/notes for her Normals and Moves sections. No complaints though.

@nilcam Yeah, the MvC3 wiki looks pretty slick and the interface is easy to navigate. I wish I knew how to do all that snazzy editing stuff so I could help you bolster the wiki. Unfortunately, all I can do is add information that I know.

Oh, wow. I didn't realize how bare the Leona wiki was. I'll get on adding descriptions and notes for stuff, but I'll leave the more advanced stuff to you and Ash since I don't play her as much anymore (well, not enough to talk strategy anyway lol). I'll also see what other characters I can work on some more.

I've changed the skin on the Wiki to something a bit nicer. I've also changed the logo to match the new look on the homepage. More importantly, we can now embed videos into the wiki.

Here's the code to use: {{#ev:service|id}}

The service will most likely be youtube and the ID can be pulled from the URL.

Thanks for all the hard work nilcam!  Although, I can't tell the difference in the skin, is it a minor change (nor can I see the change in the homepage for that matter, maybe it's due to my dark theme)?

Anyways, played around with embedding the video and I've come to conclusion that I personally prefer just link it directly.  First of all, when you embed a video you can't link a specific point in time like I normally do in youtube videos (e.g j.C, s.C, BC, s.C, hcf D [2hits], [HDC] air.qcb P, (hcf D [2hits],[HDC] qcb C) x2, hcf D [2hits], [HDC] qcf P, qcf~hcb+AC NM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvJsHUl1qX8#t=0m14)).  Second of all, doesn't embedding videos slow down the page big time, so it's kinda a win win situation if I don't--maybe I'll only embed the technical reference.

Oh, wow. I didn't realize how bare the Leona wiki was. You know more than enough =)  We do need someone to help write out the game mechanics/system for XIII, like how Ex moves work, drive canceling, HD, NeoMaxes etc... *hint* *hint*.  Abe and Duc should be able to help out as well.

I didn't make any homepage changes, I just added the new version of the logo to all of the other pages. If yoiu want to see the old skin on the wiki, log in to the wiki, click on preferences then the appearance tab and preview Monobook. We're now using Vector which simplifies the tabs at the top of each page and uses a blue very similar to the logo. I'm looking into making more substantial changes in the future!

I've embedded a video on the Nameless 2K2UM page and it doesn't seem to slow the page down.

My bad, I just re-read what you posted and I do notice the blue logo now.

So I suppose it doesn't slow down the page but unfortunately still doesn't solve trying to link it directly to the actually time.

Added move descriptions, move notes, and fixed a few hit detections to the Leona (XIII) wiki. Will work on gameplay overview, pros/cons, and strategy sections soon.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, doesn't she have an air throw? I was wondering if there was a scan of it in the guide that someone could put up? Unless she doesn't? Thanks ahead of time.

If you see any spam, let me know who posted it and I'll delete the account. Spammers are the reason we have to Protect every page we work on. I cannot prevent anyone from creating an account on the wiki but I can set permissions for legitimate members of the Dream Cancel community.

Edit: I'm blocking all non-Administrator users. It's a drastic measure but will take care of the spammers. I just deleted about 300 pages of spam. I'm going to look into better spam protection.

I've made some changes to the wiki. Nothing can be edited by anonymous members. This will provide some protection in the case that we forget to protect a page. This is a back up so do not rely on it.

New account creation is closed. On the flip side, all Administrators can create new accounts so, if you can edit the wiki, you can create an account for a member interested in helping out. To do this, log in, and go to http://dreamcancel.com/wiki/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&type=signup.

Iori - fixed
Tung - fixed
Oroch-- I mean Mizuchi - done
Shishioh - done
Shermie - WIP

Still adding notes to the threads pertaining to some characters (MP, Geese, etc) and plan on translating that info over to the wiki in a more 'professional' format...

Still more to come...

Currently testing out some stuff for 2k2UM Billy... Found out some things in OG2k2 that I need to test out on UM also...

98UM wiki: Templates for the Orochi New Faces team and Team 97 have been completed. All they need now is just some combos, normal moves explained, and some indepth information on special and desperation moves.

I started on indepth combo information for Kyo too, check it out: http://dreamcancel.com/wiki/index.php?title=Kyo_Kusanagi_%2898UM%29

Fixed a few pics here and there, especially for Rock and Ai... Managed to get some scans for the NGBC Master Guide so I'm gonna be flipping/clicking(?) through those to see what can go up on the wiki as well...

When someone gets the time, can you write up a new Introduction for XIII wiki?

I added this:

"King of Fighters XIII is the latest entry in the KOF series. While it resembles XII graphically, all of XII's new systems (clash, critical counter, guard attack) have been removed. The developers stated that their concept for the game was "KOF-ism," so many classic KOF systems return, such as guard cancel rolls and guard cancel attacks. HyperDrive mode is modeled on 2002's BC mode, while Max Cancels resemble XI's Dream Cancels. Finally, new to the series are EX moves (more powerful special moves costing one bar) and Drive Cancels (canceling from one special to another).

At the moment, KOF XIII is only available in arcades. No console version has been announced. "

Hope it's not too wordy.  :)

Hey, I was wondering if it'd be possible for me to have access to editting the wiki. I noticed that a lot of random combos doesn't have the damage listed and I love doing random combos so that's something I'd be able to help out with.

I didn't know I have editing powers already. xD

Some small changes I did this morning:
On the Game Systems section (http://dreamcancel.com/wiki/index.php?title=King_of_Fighters_XIII#Game_Systems), I was thinking maybe the Attack Notations and stuff should have its own page instead. Same goes for the same section found in the other KoF main pages. Most of these are basic fighting game terms anyway.

I'll be honest. I'm actually just adding and editing little details for now related to reorganization of the wiki such as adding a few categories and redirects.

I'm not sure how to break down Attack Notations, Terms and all those stuff yet, though I'm thinking of naming the article "Basic Gameplay System" or something like that.

Just a question though. Should we still name Kim with or without the "Kaphwan"?

The wiki is running an update script and may be down for a bit.

Edit: The update is completed with no problems or downtime!

XI is looking sweet! Good work!

I listed Kim without the Kaphwan since that's how his name was officially listed. I'm fine with adding his last name.

Seeing how KOF XIII and XI have images in their wikis, I was thinking that XII can have images too. I can scanned my bradygames guide for images of each move and color palettes.

I've been in touch with the Don't Drop That Combo team and we have permission to use their videos on our wiki! I added the videos for Kyo, Benimaru and Goro. On the Kyo page, I think we need to put some thought into out Table of Contents. I have to scroll 2 screens down to get to the beginning of the text. I'm thinking we only need the section headers and not the subsections listed. If we did that and either floated the TOC or the character picture to the right we can get the opening text to the first screen.

Edit: I found a workaround. Continue with your business.

Here's the embed code:

{{#ev:youtube|ID}}

Replace the ID with the code in the YouTube URL. for example, for XIII Kyo (URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgLXa9ykRyw), you'd replace ID with IgLXa9ykRyw

I hope you guys didn't mind, but I was working on the Leona (XIII) wiki and I noticed the header character image was too wide so it would end up under the Table of Contents section, thus pushing everything really far down. I resized the image to 640x265 (using the King image as a template) and reuploaded it, while still keeping the original files in case you wanted to revert it. I had to do the same for the Raiden and K' pages.

I finished mine finally, a little later than expect but completed nonetheless.

Nilcam, I found the same "author" that you mentioned as I was in run-on-sentence hell for Athena's post.  Took me a while to correct it lol.

Since we're on that topic, are we keeping "cancelable" as one word and one " L "?  Since it's not a real word in the dictionary I figured it made the most sense.  Same goes with "chainable".

Finally, Athena and Kensou's picture needs resizing so if someone could help with that that'll be cool.

Is there a problem with them? I mean does it mess with the formatting of the pages? I'm using Google Chrome and it looks fine to me, so let me know if it's a browser specific thing. I only resized images last time cause they were oversized and messed with the formatting of the page and the Table of Contents. Looking at the dimensions of the Athena and Kensou Header images, they're are a bit taller but slighty shorter lengthwise than the other character header images. Either way, if you think they need resizing, I'll gladly do it.

@DarKaoZ I will leave that up to nilcam's discretion. Although, personally, I believe we should refrain from using anything "arcade dump" related for any Dream Cancel resource.

So... while editing the Mai wiki, I never noticed this move description before: "Mai's trademark fan toss.  It is still of great debate where Mai pulls her fans out from." I actually started laughing when I read this.

Don't all the characters already have damage values for normals/specials/supers? Unless you meant damage values for combos or something. But, as always, help with the wiki is always appreciated. While editing and proofing the character pages, I noticed a lot of them were bare. So, to all DC members: if you have any character knowledge, help us fill the wiki or drop your knowledge into the character threads! We are a community and we can't do this without your help! :)

When doing strategy or gameplay sections, being somewhat wordy is fine. However, when doing move descriptions or making small notes, try to keep things as concise for the reader as possible.

I had to delete a lot of sentences like "Hits low therefore it much be blocked whilst crouching otherwise they'll get hit. "

EDIT: Finally finished proofing the teams I assigned myself. Man, some of those pages were a handful lol.

Also, and I dunno why we didn't do this sooner, I'm going to have the each character's wiki linked in their thread right after the movelists (http://dreamcancel.com/forum/index.php?topic=18.msg41#msg41).

I'm writing some stuff down in the Raiden strategy and I'm hoping you guys can read it over and fix any glaring mistakes I make. I'm writing it based on how I like to play Raiden and what I do at those distances.

Edit: I was wondering if anyone can set up the combo section for Raiden like it is for K'? I think that's a good format for everyone to follow and I don't know how to do that.

Edit 2: Added the below combo to K' wiki.
j.D -> d.B -> qcf+A -> f+D -> qcb+D -> qcb+D (miss) -> dp+A(1hit) -> qcf+C -> f+D -> qcb+D -> qcb+D (miss)-> dp+C

Ok ten more weeks to the console release guys--we have tons of work to do.  In the next few days I'm going to finish up the elive English translations of the technical reference that I started with Gunsmith then I'll dive back into the wiki stuff.

Should we add the tentative Evo console build changes to each character respectively?

We need as much help as possible.

Do you really think that's necessary? The XI wiki approach of just including a "console changes" section seems like it would suffice. How much interest will there be in the arcade version post-console?

The console changes are quote significant and I feel the current wiki is too top-heavy. Since I'm going to rearrange the pages, I figured we may as well create a new one.

Can't we just update the current wiki? Actually is the current wiki even full? Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind a new one at all but I don't see the point in making one unless we're promised (minimal) 15+ contributors (competitive players suggested, Nor/SoCal players etc) this time around to make it more of a community joint project rather than just a couple dudes who play the game for kicks. I don't want to see people hype up an idea and not back it up this time.

IMO I highly recommend we stick to revising the current wiki pages, finalize them, then add and note console version information (buffs & nerfs). Frame Data and match-up information could also come next afterwards.

Toss this idea around for a bit fellas.

The console changes are quote significant and I feel the current wiki is too top-heavy. Since I'm going to rearrange the pages, I figured we may as well create a new one.

I agree that the changes are significant, but that's partly why I don't think we'd need two XIII wikis. Even on Dream Cancel, which has a lot of active arcade players, I think nearly everyone is planning to switch to the console version. Hardly any new players will be interested in the arcade version. At least, that's the hope, isn't it? That the console version becomes the definitive version?

Could you explain what you mean about the current wiki being too top-heavy?

Okay, I'm sold on the idea.

By top heavy, I mean that a reader has to scroll down 5 screens before reaching the moveset. One of the really good things about the SRK guide is that it starts out general and then moves to specifics.

This isn't SRK but I digress, just put a command list near the top of every character page (a la mizuumi's AH3 wiki) to make it more accessible.

You guys got anymore suggestions?

Ok we're finally done working on the "translations" of the technical reference and I created  a new thread here (http://dreamcancel.com/forum/index.php?topic=1237.msg26267#msg26267) about it.

That was a lot of work but we'll start on improving our wikis as well.  Lots of work ahead of us, only 8 weeks left.

From here on, let's not post any combos unless you can confirm them. The biggest problem with our wiki is combo accuracy.

Speaking of which, how consistent are we on annotations??? I mean for instance, for moves that have other options (i.e. - LB2 chain combos, Shermie's throws, etc), are we listing them using the same annotations?

Also, for hard vs soft knockdowns, how are we going about naming those??? I don't wanna confuse anybody with what I type just because one game has one way of saying things and another game mentions something else... I just wanna clear up as much as possible, so even while others are working on the major things that need work, the minor things or the more finer points can be tended to as well...

It's true, we need to standardize our jargon/notation and of course use the correct terminology for the respective game.  We could say, "in the KOF world for the last 15+ years it has always been referred to 'straight (victory) or straighting' when you use one player to defeat all three of your opponents, but some people call it OCV in other fighting games" and just use "straighting" from then on.

Ultimately, we could have a link on each wiki to convert all the qcf's to 236s etc. which although is time consuming, are probably the two most common way of writing movelists in the kof world etc.

We need a lot of help in testing out all the combos on our entire wiki, if you could volunteer some ppl to help check for us Reiki from STA that'll be awesome.

I've started to go through the move lists in KOFXIII. I'm removing the parenthesis around motions and adding a shortened move list to the top of the entry. At some point, I need to resize the images.

Can try and ask a few people. I don't really play Kyo, but I do play K', Maxima, and Terry so I'll work on those.

As you check and test characters, write which ones you're working on so people can check other characters, that'll way we'll cruise through the 31 characters quickly.

Remember that we'll likely have to go through all the characters again once the console version drops. A few combos will have to be added/removed/adjusted, along with the damage values.

I'll gladly help with that project. :)

Well, I'll work on Terry. Just from looking at him, I noticed that one of the no-meter combos, cr. Ax2, f+A, qcf+C does not work because f+A is uncancellable except in HD mode.

I know you can hit his Qcb+D -> st.D combo if the opponent is in the air and at a certain height. These combos:

- qcb+D, st. C

- qcb+D, st. D

50% Drive/No Meter

- qcb+D, st. C, df+C, qcb+A, (DC) d~u+C

- qcb+D, st. D, df+C, qcb+A, (DC) d~u+C

- qcb+D, st. C, df+C, qcb+A, (DC) qcb+B, st. C

- qcb+D, st. D, df+C, qcb+A, (DC) qcb+B, st. C

Need to clarify why you do qcb+D. Specifically, you could explain that doing qcb+D hitting a crouch-blocking opponent puts you at positive frame advantage. Otherwise, even on counter hit, the st.D won't juggle the opponent with a df+C, and certainly won't do burn knuckle. So that needs a little clarification.

================

- cr. Bx1~3, st. B, qcfx2+P (Needs to be kick)
================

- st. C, df+C, qcb+A, (DC) qcb+D, qcfx2+K

Can also be done with D and is corner only, the qcb+D will whiff midscreen. There's also the EX version which isn't listed.
================

- st. C, df+C, qcb+A, (DC) d~u+C, (DC) qcb+AC, qcb+D, d~u+C

This combo, as far as I can do, is corner only. The character falls and Terry is too far away by the time the animation ends in the midscreen. You also have to delay the qcb+D until the EX burn knuckle animation is over or it won't do it.

================
Not listed combo, 100% drive, 1 meter:
- st. C, df+C, qcb+A, (DC)qcb+AC, (DC), qcb+D, d~u+C
*Note: You have to do qcf+D in midscreen because Terry will likely cross up himself, forcing you to change your perspective.

Can do this midscreen.

don't you guy's think that we should organize the combo's into like a BnB section? there are a lot of arbitrary combo's especially looking through the terry section. I don't know about the other ones though
   Edit
Also I really think we need to notate on the combo's, "corner only", "midscreen", "anti air only", "crouching only" stuff like that otherwise some of them make no sense
Title: Re: The Dream Cancel Wiki and YOU! - Can't stop the hustle

I'll work on all the loli's.

One thing I want to ask is do we only want to list practical BNBs or do we want to list whatever will work? Like with K' he has an extremely long combo section but half of those combos make the other half useless. An example would be his 1 drive 1 super combos.

- j.D -> d.B -> qcf+A -> f+D -> qcb+D -> qcb+K (miss) -> dp+A (1hit) -> SC qcfx2+P
- j.D -> d.B -> qcf+A -> f+D -> qcb+BD -> qcb+K (miss) -> dp+A (2hit) -> DC qcf+B -> dp+C
- j.D -> d.B -> qcf+A -> f+D -> qcb+D -> qcb+K (miss) -> dp+A (1hit) -> DC qcb+BD -> qcb+K (miss) -> dp+C
- j.D -> d.B -> qcf+A -> f+D -> qcb+D -> qcb+K (miss) -> dp+A (2hit) -> DC qcf+B -> dp+AC

Yes all 4 of them work but they all work no matter what. Do we really need to have all four when we can list maybe the highest damaging one and a slightly easier variation of it?

Call me biased since I wrote it but I think the Shen template (http://dreamcancel.com/wiki/index.php?title=Shen_Woo_(XIII)) works just fine.

It is divided up by utility (wall-to-wall, corner only, no-stock, no drive etc...)

Something I was considering was doing combo starters and enders.

For example, you just list the basic BnB of what will start a combo. For example, most combos you start all have similar enders or the SAME ender. Some have the SAME starter.

This way, you can save room and it's not the same strain over and over again.

For example, lets pick K':

Combo Starters

No drive, no stock
cr.b x1~2, qcf+A, f+D (Corner Only)
st.C (2 hits) qcf+A, f+D
st.C (1 hit), f+A, qcf+A, f+D
st.D, qcf+A, f+D
d.C, qcf+A, f+D

1 stock
cr.b x1~2, qcf+AC, f+D
qcb+BD, qcb+k

Combo Extensions

No drive, no stock
---> qcb+D, qcb+D (miss), dp+C (After midscreen combo or if opponent is high enough)
---> qcb+B, qcb+B, dp+A (At corner or opponent is falling low)
---> dp+C

1 drive
---> qcb+D, qcb+D, dp+A (1 hit), (DC) qcb+B, qcb+B, dp+A (dp+C if opponent is high enough)
---> qcb+k, qcb+k, dp+A (2 hits), (DC) qcf+B, dp+C

etc.

For moves or combo starters that have a short range of follow-ups, you just put an asterisk to denote them as special. Then you make a special combo extension section and list them, putting before the arrow that it precedes the special combo starter. That way, a person can just scroll up and play mix and match. It saves space horizontally as you're not having to read the same strain over and over again.

I've mentioned this before, but it never caught on. I only did it for the King page cause her starters are all super basic.

Call me biased since I wrote it but I think the Shen template (http://dreamcancel.com/wiki/index.php?title=Shen_Woo_(XIII)) works just fine.

I like this setup, actually. I should probably condense the combo sections I did to useful combos. I just listed anything and everything so people would know the options they had. I also like the YT link references. The only problem is if those vids get taken down. Maybe someone could host up the vids or put them up on the DC channel for a permanent link? I could do it but damn that would take a long time lol

I personally like the way that the Japanese wiki is broken up. The four main sections are 0% Drive, 50% Drive, 100% Drive and HD Combos. (Some characters like Takuma, Ash and Joe could also use a 150% Drive section.)

Within those sections you have smaller headings for 1 stock, 2 stock, etc.

However, this system might not be best for everyone. Chin, for example, is pretty free-form with his combos. I think the current wiki for him doesn't need to be messed with much.

I'm slowly but surely adding the rest of the EX characters move list for 98UM in the 98UM section, I'll be adding some simple Bnb's and etc. for some of the characters once im done with them all. Also, updating them with any useful info that anyone else post in the threads. I'd figured i'd just do the rest of the EX characters that are not available in the 98UM section of the Wiki. If you guys want, whenever you want copy the info to put it in the wiki. :)

So far, Ive done

EX Andy
EX Yamazaki
EX Blue Mary (Finished not to long ago)

Who I'll get too in time.

EX Terry
EX Joe
EX Ryo
EX Robert
EX Mai
EX Billy

By the way you guys got 2 EX Terry's there lol.

But yea, hope you guys dont mine. Just trying to help a little and i love 98 so i thought hey what the hell lol. ;)

I reworked Kula's and K's combo section. Basically I deleted a bunch of combos that were pointless based on the fact that we have optimized combos now and don't need 50 variations of the same meter usage. If anyone wants to go ahead and delete the 100% drive section for K' since I think that's useless as well but I don't know how to do it. Then again sometimes you build the meter for a kill so I'm not 100% about that.

I also added some random notes to Raiden and Ash's optimized stun combo.

Liz's driveless combos got the treatment as well. I don't actually know any drive combos with her so I didn't touch that section.

Added one combo to Andy's section and changed the notation to look like the other pages.

I might actually put game play notes tomorrow or something.

^Like you said some of the "unnecessary" variations may be due to differences in starting meter, the way the player confirms the combo, screen position etc. There may be optimal combos but there might be slightly easier versions that do almost the same damage, something like that. There's definitely some clutter but probably not all of them should be deleted.
Title: Re: The Dream Cancel Wiki and YOU! - Dream Team steady mobbin'
Post by: Demoninja on October 21, 2011, 05:24:10 PM
Right I agree, I did take into account things like difficulty and screen position but for some characters it definitely was a problem. Also I'm pretty sure at the moment there are no combos that say you should have x amount of meter and y combo will build exactly enough to do z.

IIRC K' had about 6 or 7 combos for 1 super 1 drive. It's K' so those combos all work anywhere and are about the same difficulty. The problem is a lot of stuff on the wiki hasn't been looked over in a while so some of it many be dated, especially the optimal combos.

There are a lot of resources out there for cool and flashy combos but in my opinion, a gameplay wiki should include the most damage for that amount of meter. However if a combo is really difficult such as K's dp+A (DC) qcf+C then there should be some variations that use the same meter and deal just a bit less damage.

That's the approach I took when I edited the pages.
