Come one, come all! Veterans, boosters, Robert/Kyo scrubs (lol) new players interested in KOF or just plain tired of the same matchups in Super Ryu Fighter IV. For the past two weeks, The New Wolves KOF XII clan has been frequently beating the crap outta each other online.
Yes, you heard me right ONLINE...KOF XII's online component is actually PLAYABLE now as long as your connection is wired, that is.
We've been seeing some random players lurking around and figured they're lookin to get down too. So, myself, FameDouglas aka HDR Fei Long legend, hdcloudstrife08 aka SSF IV Deadly Dudley and clan newcomer, AgentOrange82 are sending a beacon out to all of you have may have just picked the game up or had it for a while but no one will play it with you because you're too good offline (lol) and lookin for a change until XIII or MvC2 gets here!

I wouldn't post something like this if it wasn't. Then again, most people I run into have fiber-optic internet like myself.
I sent several of the haters invites or messages to come and try it out but they were too busy playing Super Jab Fighter IV.
I never said the "netcode was stellar" or perfect at all. I said that it was PLAYABLE which is a far cry from what it was around this time last year! We get connections on an average of 2 yellow and sometimes 3 green or blue or whatever. Plays just fine with the occasional hiccup when someone hits the Home button to get to the XMB or when someone is joining or leaving.
From "slide-show" to PLAYABLE is an improvement and there are a few players in our lobby right now so I'ma get back to it!

You can't just expect people to up and support any KOF title that drops. You got Tekken fans that refuse to play Tekken 6. SF fans that hate SFIV. Catch my drift? You expect people to go out and buy XII? Again?
If you want players to support a game it has to be a game they can believe in. Like 98UM or 02UM or XIII. XII isn't that game. It left a sour taste in a lot of peoples mouth. You wanna put people down for not being supportive? Really? So if someone comes up in here and says "support KOF 01", anyone who is a KOF fan should be all "HELLZ YEAH"? Fans are obligated to support every game released now? You play every KOF game I assume? Being all "dedicated" and "supportive" as you are.

I don't recall sayin people should go out and buy anything but only if they happened to have it already or recently picked it up on a whim, that there are a few people that play it regularly.
I do have every KOF on Sega Saturn (imports), PS2, PSP, DC (imports) btw among other SNK games/series.
As far as KOF goes, not gonna be a blind fanboy and they were all GOTY. 94, 96, 99, 01 and 03 were my least favorite KOF games but I played them because I knew they were takin the series in a different direction (besides recycled sprites).
I lost a match against hdcloudstrife08 so I had time to write this. lol

Dude, KOFXII netcode is NOT PLAYABLE by any means. GGPO netcode is not perfect or stellar but it is extremely playable.
I even tried it again this morning and it is still atrocious.

Yeah I'm playing. It's waning between yellow and red, but it's playable. Missed a few combos I shouldn't have but still good games.
They need some work though. But they're good new fighters I've never seen before.

No need to bash other games. We all know KOF 12 is unfinished, but the biggest jab is the netcode. If it had great netcode people would forgive the unfinished nature.

My opinion is that a lot of "Snk" fans only like SNK because of what capcom displayed in Capcom VS SNK 2. They tried the SNK games then found em radically different then just gave up. The thing with SNK is that each franchise plays incredibly different unlike Capcom where each fighting franchise has some generalities that make it easier to transfer from Street Fighter to Darkstalkers to Alpha and so on. SNK's fighting systems vary widely from Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, World Heroes. Their jumps are so radical that each fighting game series they make just makes jumping in harder then it would for capcom fans.

As far the split in the KOF community, it's like SF peeps liking the vanilla ST over IV or 3S over IV or whatever. Some people have trouble leaving their COMFORT ZONES for any changes made to the engines of the games, subtle or major.
Some people can't handle change. I was one of those people when SF III came out. It was too different so I ain't like it cuz I couldn't dominate like the old school SF's.
When KOF 96 came out and changed the engine, I ain't like it at first cuz it was too different from 95 and was no longer able to dominate like I used to.
Reviewers and some of the KOF community talked trash about SNK using the same sprites for years and now when XII does away with the old sprites and gives you new ones...some people can't be pleased outside of the COMFORT ZONE.
Like a radio plays a song you don't like at first but you keep hearin over and over 21 times a day and then all of a sudden, you KNOW the song and you in the club dancin to it but the when the DJ plays a NEW song you leave the dance floor cuz you never heard that song before.

im a sf pro player not a jab noob but trust me cap needs 2 change their formula & ono needs 2 step up & balance the game NOW!!!!! & it really hurts 2 say after all these years.
this kof 13 is a dream come true cap could learn a thing or 2 fron the the real masters SNK!!!!!!!
anyway please SNK fans support the game not through ggpo or mame or W,E but through real consoles.
& most important stop bashing if ur smashing

It's good to step out of a comfort zone, but with street fighter there's a certain amount of things people expect from that series especially since it's the most accessable of the fighting games. And the reason jabs are so popular in the game is that several of them are done in 3-4 frames which makes them beat almost everything. Hell in the arcade edition of super Deejay's jab has full invincibility from the arm.
There is reigns on how much can be changed, but I dunno if Ono would do a proper change. SNK has things to learn but so does capcom. The difference is that SNK is willing to experiment with everything while Capcom makes small subtle changes over time. People prefer that to what SNK does where they almost do complete revamps with each game.

People actually like some form of familiarity though. Complete revamping can backfire. Remember how Iori changed completely? People hated that. But Kensou fans don't care because they have to learn new shit every year so no sympathy from them. Almost all characters are changed in 12.

Which is why I keep hearin "play me on KOF 98 or 2002! I'm good on those, not on this one cuz it suxorz they changed the game so much!"
Like for real though, I stopped playin SF for a while back in the late 90's early 00s and when CvS2 came out I literally avoided the Capcom characters like the plague because I knew there was nothing new there except Ken's ;bk ;dn ;db+ ;k move.
SF is the Madden of 2D fighters...one minor change every game.

Insulting someone isn't the best way to get someone to play a game. That just turns them off as that makes a community of elitists. The Melty Blood community didn't do that because they know they're niche. Same with Aksys. Don't go to insulting people when they're going to try a new game or a game they don't particularly like.

I'd step up to your Minnesota team. I not only play online, but play a good amount offline too. I play 98UM too. Dont' really play 2k2 UM or XI though. But I play 98, 98UM, XII, and I guess some 2k2.
KOF XII is a good game, but the online ruins it. It's actually fairly balanced when you really consider everything due to the clash system nullifying certain attacks and normals being significantly different for each characters. Incomplete? You betcha. Bad game? Hell no.

I would actually play XII if the netcode was good enough. I enjoyed the game. It has a couple things I'm not that fond of but it's not that bad. I run Kyo/Iori and switch between Ralf/Ryo/Ash/Robert. Haven't been practicing things like counter hit combos and CC combos because no comp so.... no "need" to try to step up.

To be honest though this game lacks game modes and netplay is unreliable, but to call KOF XII unplayable is just plain ludicrous. (if talking about from gameplay POV)
It astound me how negative rep KOFXII receive for its design which isn't all flaw, if any thing the only thing I truly hated were the damage output from CC and how some character where pretty much clones of another. (oh wait SSF4 is full of those & people love that game)
I must admit I'm not a KOF fan but KOFXII is a decent game with decent concept that could have been polish more in the future game. But developer choose not too. Cant say I blame them for their market decision for KOFXIII.
But I'll honestly say I would play this than KOFXIII. Which I find is let down to the new reboot that claim to make. KOFXIII is just like every other kof game with visual polish and system that yet again only cater to aggressive play. ( i think kofXII fix that)

Well i don't know about turtling but defensive play is way too difficult for me in KOF later titles, and KOFXIII and rush down is far to forgiving which in combination makes KOF the game it is.KOF12 still has the same experience but makes tweaks in the system that I feel keeps the game fresh from degenerate play style and match ups.

To be fair KOFXIII was design for it fans and revitalize the series, while KOFXII seem to had been design to be a reboot. I'm not sure if some considered KOFXIII a reboot too but to me it seem like last market stand for a come back. Which seems to be working, but I have personal vendetta against their decision to not polish the system KOFXII. Its not like their older games never had it. Im pretty confident it was not the game system that people hated but the barbone port and unreliable netplay.
Two button grab was not an issue nor were C+D attack function. Not only did they take away but added things like a guard meter in a game where offensive play has a lot of advantage. just don't seem to work out well in my opinion. Not competition wise.

Yes, we do play KOFXII offline and I'm not good at it at all, I'm much stronger in 98/2002 and their UM games, as well as XI. We had a few round robins in the game and I didn't do well. Damn good ass games to nilcam, the connection, I gotta admit towards FameDouglas, was actually quite playable. If you just have the room set only to two people, and they have yellow bars the input lag was pretty minimal and I was pulling off a few combos.
I couldn't do any 1 frame links with Shen Woo, but I was doing a few bread and butters with some effort.
After nilcam left, I played with a local player and the connection still pretty playable.
So I guess if only two people in a room are playing and they have yellow bars then you can have some fun games.

Especially when there is lag involved because it is an unstable environment, but you decide to talk smack like there is something on the line.

As for the shit talk, I've been keeping a close eye on it and have requested that people chill in 2 posts. Two users have PMed me and things are going to calm down for sure. If they don't, then I'll lock the thread. While I find some of the comments in this thread to be overzealous, I haven't seen anything that is offensive enough for a severe crackdown.

I have bought my 98UM and KOFXI used so that money doesn't go to them, lol. Downloading two little roms shouldn't hurt them too much, they don't even make money from those carts anymore. As long as they have people that play the game, that should be their main concern.

Your list is wrong. Iori was also considered top in Japan. So was Joe who was incredibly powerful in 12. Terry for the most part was considered a 2 or maybe a 3 if you really stretched it. People that are in the 3's tend to have completed move sets too. Mature and Elizabeth aren't even a one. They're bottom ones, and in Mature's case, a zero due to only having TWO moves.

I based it on character usage percentages, not an "official" tier list from Japan. In that light, my list more right than wrong.
Like I said before, it's open for discussion. Anyone have input? Anyone here agree that Iori is top tier? Before you answer, think about active players in community who actually use him in a dominant fashion.

So true. I was just on the GameFAQS message boards for KOF XII and it was a GHOST TOWN! The thing is, not to sound fanboy-ish but the 360 demographic is mostly for fratboys who like FPS games (COD:BO, Halo and all that jazz).
Sure, you can say "the PRO SSF IV players all play on 360" partly because they're paid to and MicroSoft GIVES them free stuff as long as they rep the console in public.
The real fighting game fans are on PS3...many of them transitioning from the KOF XI and 02/03 scene on PS2. More people play COD BO on 360 because there ain't much to play besides FPS every other game. The PS3 has a VARIETY of games to play other than FPS. They're so spread out among the other games...fighting games included.

The more the merrier...as long as they have a decent connection that is. If they're all that good then we can mos def get our game up by learning from them! That's part of what this all about ya digg!
I know a there are a few kats "ghosting" this thread and are still skeptical about KOF XII and all that so I wanna say to the "ghosts" that I encourage you all to give it a 2nd chance and the rest of the "crew" and I welcome you to join.
Oh yeah, two more things. WIRED CONNECTIONS of 20 Mb or higher are highly recommended for KOF XII online and when in the lobby and ESPECIALLY while a match is going on (even if you're just spectating) DO NOT go to the XMB for any reason until the match is over! Ignore those "is that game good?" and all the COD: BO invites until the match is done and everyone is in the pre-fight lobby.
I'm at work now but I'm sure hdcloudstrife08, n0thin89, AgentOrange82, Ken-Chan55 or BestMCfromMASS (just to name a FEW) would be down for a few rounds of some PSN KOF XII action!

And man do I wish critical counters were gone from this game and instead the damage output of moves were increased. It would make for a better game instead of it boiling down to who can hit HP first.

Yeah, I think it felt more like AOF 3 with the zoom cam. I think the CCs add that sense of awareness to the game and make you think a bit on offense. I'd compare them to the ULTRA COMBOS in SSF IV where one slip can mean big damage on the punish. Plus, they're fun to watch and see the different combos people put together.
Oh well, they took out the CCs in XIII but replaced them with the ability to cancel specials and added EX moves, EX DMs and NeoMax moves.

I can deal with Chin, Ralf and Mature. I don't mind that so much because they're a breath of fresh air to watch. lol Been a KOF fan for years so I've had my fill of Kyo and the AOF team.
So, you hate Benimaru and now Andy too? I see a pattern developing...I think you got something against BLONDES! lol I guess we're even then.
Nilcam, what times are you usually online? I rarely ever see you log onto PSN. hdcloud is right though. We had one of the BEST KOF XII sessions of the YEAR 2011! It ran great with a couple of exceptions (WiFi users be damned! lol). I work most of the day today from 7am to 1:30pm and then from 5pm to 11pm so from like 2 to 4pm we can mix it up a bit!

Because Robert is more flash then Ryo and people seem to like the kick variation of the Kyokugen martial arts a lot more then the fist variation. Plus Robert has a far better fireball that is used effectively for both offense and defense, while Ryo's fireball is more of an offensive tool or a combo part essentially. Plus the HienShinpakku kick has full distance and puts him to safety if the opponent blocks. Ryo's triple kick does not put him in safety and is more of a combo move which is harder to spam.

I had a feeling that ease of use was one of the reasons in comparison. It makes sense in reflection of the Kyokugenryu hierarchy.
Takuma's is the final mastery form called Shoran I think. Ryo's form is under that, then Robert's form and then the basic form centering on projectile based attacks is Yuri's form.
Well, outside of combo videos and players lookin to use infinite combos, I guess we won't see too many Takuma players especially w/o an anti-air special.

Recommended connection is 20 Mb or higher WIRED! Anything less than that will lag up the place.
"But I play COD BO and SSF IV online no problem and I'm on my neighbors' connection - I'm wireless in my mom's basement - I got wireless but it's high speed and only like 20 feet away". All that means NOTHING.
Again, if you don't have at least a 20 Mb wired connection, you're setting yourself up for frustration. We have already confirmed this with most of the XII community which is actively growing more and more each day.

How does this explain my connection then which is only 6 mbps down and 1.5 mbps up? SNKP games are more distance based then bandwidth based as most fighting games are very low on actual bandwidth consumption.

You're in CA right? I'm on the east coast in VA so I'm not sure if the distance means anything or in your case, why you're to play with a relatively low speed connection. Everyone, except you of course, with speeds lower than 20 Mb and wireless have all been laggy no matter how close they were.

Yeah wireless really fucking sucks. But most people have to use it because it's easier then cabling through the house and more convenient. They forget to properly set their PS3 in DMZ or don't even bother to forward the ports.

I'm sure you've seen us mention it several times on this thread about how to get the most outta KOF XII's online play as far as connection requirements. Anything less than 20 Mb and mos def if it ain't a wired connection, then expect to be frustrated a lil bit. Otherwise, it's hit or miss...more miss than hit.
Oh well, it don't hurt to try so let's give a chance at least. I'll add you to the list. The crew welcomes you!

XII is the foundation for whats to come, sure alot of staple gameplay features are missing but all the key elements are still there and if you were a true fan of the series youd know that. All fans of KOF 2k2 are loving XIII because it has a lot of the things they're used to. But anyway, lemme touch on a few of your "points" without resorting to name calling or baseless insults as you have done in an effort to mask whatever insecurities you have about your knowledge of XII.
Multi-Level Super Gauge - KOF 94/95 was the series' beginning...neither of these games had more
than one super guage and had only one super move. 94 was good while 95 was GREAT with that foundation 94 had built which was really closer to Fatal Fury Special.
Guard Cancel Attacks - Are present (in essence) in XII but work differently than what you and fans of 2k2 prefer. In XII I'd say this works similar to the way the reversals work in Tekken or VF; ;bk+ ;c ;d vs an incoming attack and can be done an unlimited number of times but does NOT mean it can be abused or that it's SAFE in anyway.
Guard Cancel Rolls - Not present in 94 or 95. With unlimited Guard Attakcs this would have been OVERKILL against the aggressor in a match. Instead of placing yourself at risk of being baited into a GA which should be done on REACTION and not prediction in the first place, a player would just opt to make sure contact is made and then go into the GCR. That would have promoted turtling.
Guard Gauge - This was not present in 94 or 95, the series' humble beginnings. Woulda been nice but since this is a REBOOT, a return to the roots [94/95], it wasn't necessary. (I LOVE Guard Crush too btw).
Dizzies - Come on, really? As easy as it is to pull off combos in XII coupled with the fact that damage reduction was almost a NON-FACTOR...stack on the presence of CC's in the game and you would have cried FOUL the first time you were victim to a 55% or more CC combo and ended up dizzy with less than 10% left afterward. Standing ;c for the finish! lol I don't recall 2k2 havin dizzies...it's been a while. XIII doesn't seem to have them either so I think there may be some misinformation in your statement. Oh well...on to the next one!
Tech Throws - were not present in 94/95, the series' humble beginnings. Throws took on the VF rule of thumb...striking beats throws->throws beat guarding (and evasion rolls)->guarding beats strikes. If you're afraid of being thrown, toss a few LP's out there to keep em honest! Ask Goro, Clark and Raiden about that.
Super Cancels - Not present in 94/95. Would have been nice to look at if EVERYONE had them and not just Shen Woo! There is ONE Super Cancel in XII and it's exclusive to "not Kyo/Robert/Terry/Joe/Andy" but Shen Woo! lol Seriously though, this would have been OVERKILL on the ease of combo-ability (for lack of a better word) AND the fact that they didn't do much damage reduction in the first place (94/95 had NO DMG redux in combos).
There ya have it. It seems you're misunderstanding what they were tryin to do in regards to REBOOTING the series. As far as SNKPs "mistakes" are concerned in regards to KOF...their BIGGEST mistake of all was NOT REBOOTING after the NESTS Saga was completed!
As far as character having few moves or moves taken away from them or altered in some way...if you were a true fan of the entire KOF series and not just a fan of 98/02, you know that this was, in fact, NORMAL throughout the series and was not a flaw or a mistake. That's part of what kept KOF fresh for so many years!
That's it for tonight's KOF 110 lecture. For your homework assignment, you should go back and actually PLAY through all the KOF games (Max Impact and 2006 too!) and not just the ones you're good at (***cough*** 98/2k2) and study the progression of not only the characters and how they've changed in each game but also the core gameplay mechanics and features...you might be surprised as to which KOF had Guard Cancels FIRST!

Dude, just because 12 was supposed to be a "reboot" is no excuse to take away over 15 years worth of gameplay advancements (and special moves) that were added throughout the KOF series.
I mean first of all, no tech throws is the dumbest shit ever. Every fighting game has some way to reversal/escape a regular throw. But when you think about it, in 12 it's not so bad considering regular throws are garbage with no range and slow start-up... but then that also causes problems - Cracking a turtling player becomes difficult. Especially with the absence of the guard gauge. You could take a risk and try throwing out a fully charged CD attack, but that's still a huge risk and you could potentially eat a Critical Counter trying to do it.
you know that this was, in fact, NORMAL throughout the series and was not a flaw or a mistake. That's part of what kept KOF fresh for so many years!
I wouldn't call giving Clark only 2 special moves "normal" and not keeping it fresh at all when you look back to him from 96-XI. Clark came a long way from being a Ralf headswap, now he's back to being a headswap... and a very ineffective one at that compared to his buddy Ralf who at least gained some very useful new moves, even if it was only 2 new moves. They were at least good moves. All poor Clark got was a hop and an air throw.
When I look at KOF12, I see an extremely barebones games with very limited options and primitive fighting gameplay compared to previous KOF installments and other 2D fighters on the market. The game is lacking in every aspect, but now that KOF13 is out, it fixed just about everything fans complained about with 12.
Really there is no more reason to hold onto 12. There never was.

I WISH I had a lil more time to play but between school and work I'm lucky to have ANY gametime these days. So much goin on... it's tough but it's worth it! I still plan on makin those combo vids though.

Good idea but we handled that a while back...just chillin now. Everyone that WAS gonna profess their love for 98/02 and their hatred of 12 because it was not like them, has probably changed their minds about it after all the drama from before. That ain't what we was on, we just wanted say "wassup...let's play!"
Anyway, sure you are more than welcome to play some 12 with us...hit anyone of us up on PSN! I just been goin H.A.M. on school lately.

I upgraded my internet to a cable connection (up to 15mb now) and I wouldn't mind playing with you guys either. Sorry we came off on the wrong foot in the beginning, you and hdcloudstrife08 are cool homies.
Also, I agree with Steam on the new thread, nothing is wrong with a clean, fresh slate, and probably even some directions and instructions on how to join to play? Maybe even sticky the thread too.
Shit man, also, there isn't a KOFXII wiki or much gameplay talk about it here either. ;)
