Have you been to AI, you should really try to make a trip up here before it closes, it's only like an hour and 15 mins or so depending where you're at in SD to get to AI.

Ah, yes, thought bout it so many times for KoF 13 >_< But i work and am in grad school working on my master's thesis. And the 2 hour trip there, and the other 2 back i'd much rather spend playing games in my own city which seems impossible to do for some reason. Also, i play on 6 button pads. So my competitive level would be dwarfed at AI to where you dudes probably wouldn't want to play me.

Quick update for you cats in SD:
Comic Odyssey runs sessions/tournaments on Mondays from 8PM til whenever they're done (usually its around Midnight-ish). They primarily hold SF4/MvC3, but if you want, you can bust out with your own game and TV if space is provided. I'll be there today, but I'm only bringing my stick. I believe its $2 for the tourney and $3 to get in on the session. Here's the address/number if interested:

I'm cool with the owner, and he allows for free sessions during the store's working hours, so you cats can pick out a day and time to showcase KOF and get matches in. Just lemme know whenever you guys are down for matches, and I'll see what's up.
Alot of people there are showing interest in XIII. My hope is that KOF XIII get as much exposure as, if not more than, SF4, or even MvC3.
Anyway, if you guys show up, I'm gonna be rocking either a red Baltimore hat, or some Orioles hat of some sort. More than likely its the former.

The space is kinda small, I will say that, but those guys manage to hold sessions with 4-8 tvs there for both ps3 and x360. It would be dope to get some high level KOFers in there and show off, especially if XIII was available.

I live down in spring valley. I have 98um and 2k2 on xbox and plan on picking up kof13 when it hits and would love to get some local matches in. Never got good at kof games but they are still fun and I am getting sick of capcom fighters at the moment.
I have no car so I am limited to where I can go via bus but somebody mentioned comic odyssey earlier and I can make it there pretty easy.
If playing locally isn't possible I'd be down with trying to get some games online with anybody.

Ok, I got an idea-- sorta... This is open to any of you cats outside of SD also. The more the merrier!!!
If anyone is free on either the 7th or 14th of November, I'd like to have a KoF/SNK setup at Comic Odyssey while the other games are going on... I personally have 02UM, 98UM, KOFNW (disc), FFS, MoTW, SS2, SSS (disc) and NGBC on my 360 ready to go, and they work offline too (there used to be some DRM issues, but its fixed).
I had a quick setup in the past, and it got a bit of attention, but it was always in comp with SF4 (I'd rather it be 3S though, but whatever)...
I'm gonna talk to the owner, and see what I can do. My request to you cats is to post up and let me know if you're free on either of those days... I'm gonna pick one of those days, and pending on the outcome, I'll try to continue it, and attempt to build even more hype for XIII, since alot of people there (SF players included) are very interested in playing the game...
It would be dope if some of you LA heads came down and show off something... I don't care if I get crushed, I'll get my revenge in XIII at least ;)
Nah, but real talk, lemme know what you guys think about this... I actually wanna get something solidified and not just some idea floating in the air... Those that know anyone else interested, spread the word... We gotta show these cats that KoF is a rewarding game that's worth playing, especially pre-XIII.

Ok, I'll talk to the guy today and see what can be done... I'll keep you posted with the info I get from him...
UPDATE: Ok, I talked to the owner, and he just straight up asked the people around if they were interested. Got a good number of people, and I'm free on the 7th, so I'll be at Comic Odyssey with my little setup. I'll start it off with KOF2002UM and keep it primarily SNK related for exposure, but if cats wanna change the game up to something else, lemme know. Here's what I got so far:

Around 8ish should be fine... As usual, I'll be rocking my Baltimore hat... If my shirt comes in, I'll be wearing the DreamCancel shirt, too... I'll be there around 7 to setup and make sure stuff works... I'm only bringing my 360, so just make sure you got the right stick/pad/converter or whatever...
If you know anyone that's interested, spread the word please... Sure, its casuals, but I want this to be as hyped as possible...
UPDATE: The session's still going down, but I might not be able to record matches (I have a different setup to record so it won't work)... Anyone interested in doing so, feel free to though. Hopefully I can get something jimmy-rigged for the next session.

UPDATE: Success!!! The session had a fairly good turnout, and while some people didn't play, they were certainly spectating, although it didn't start off that way... Started off with 02UM and about 10:45pm we ended up doing some KOFXII til closing. One funny note: that session was the "goodbye MvC3", and it somehow ended up feeling like our "goodbye KOF XII" although many cats said goodbye to KOF XII long before that... Anyway, dope stuff. The owner wants to see more games other than MvC3 and SF4, so that definitely means our foot is in the door. They were even playing RockBand for a bit...
Shoutouts to Rhythmaxed (we'll do mirror matches next time)and 74fists for coming through... 74fists came through with KOF XII and even showed off some combos and such, which actually got some people checking it out... We had people saying, "Is that KOF XIII??" We're like, "Nah, its XII", but surprisingly people still stayed to watch... We got one newcomer to the series wanting to learn the game, which is a plus!!!
I do plan to do this again next week, so stay tuned... I did get a request to get some Fatal Fury Special matches in, and I thought I heard MoTW, but we had a ton of XII matches and didn't have enough time... Hopefully, with XIII coming out soon we can get more people into it...

No sweat man... We did get a new recruit, so we gotta be as diligent but patient as possible with showing him the ropes, while keeping him from bad habits and such... He's pretty good in SF, I've fought him before, so he picks up on strats and the ins and outs of whatever fighter he's playing...
Oh yeah, King is good in 98UM... We gotta get matches in that next time...

UPDATE: Still recovering from surgery, but I'll definitely be getting my copy of XIII this week... I'll see what Ali is up to this week, he might be doing something for the console release, I'm not sure though... Either way, I'll be available for matches online at least (with the hopes of breaking Billy Kane down on day 1), and in the following week, I'll be ready to serve cats offline...

I already have my preorder paid for and gonna be picking it up tuesday. Too bad it will be a day after when they usually hold casuals but that does give us a week to train up during thanksgiving weekend. I'll keep an eye out for you and we can get some online matches in.

Man we needed you for our session in 02UM a week ago... Nah it slow at first, but we held it down with 4 people... I'm sure its gonna change now that we're not rocking XII or even 02UM now... Some cat was talking smack like he plays KOF or whatever, but the whole time he didn't even get on the stick at all... I'ma call him out if I see him next time... It's good that you'll be free for a bit... I'm not sure what's going on this Monday, since I'm still on convalescent leave, and I got a surgery followup, but I'm pretty sure next Monday's a go... I'll still see if the spot is still open if I'm not there though, so at the very least some KoF presence can be seen there...
Anybody here have a camcorder and is willing to record matches??? I have the capability, but the quality is standard, and I have to have my laptop plus a gangload of splitters for both audio and video pending the setup on the tv... I'm looking to find an alternate and easier setup, but that's all I got for now...
Also, if there are other areas, people holding KoF/SNK sessions elsewhere, post up... If any of you cats decide to hold something, feel free to post up... I think I have most of you guys on my xbl friends list, too, so if you see me online, hit me up then as well...

Well I got the game and spent about two hours in practice mode getting use to the game then tried online mode. Pretty fun so far tho I am going to have to put in a ton of time into this game before I start getting anywhere near skilled since I am pure ass at this game ahahaha. I played a few other people as scrubby as I am online at least so to those who were saying they were new to the game don't worry. You won't get blown out by everybody you meet.
I would recommend only playing 4 bar people tho since the netcode is only decent. Can't wait to play this offline next week. Good luck getting the game guys and add me if you get it on xbox live. GT = rythmic.

Whats up guys. Jinx pm'd me awhile back about gatherings for kof but I never got around to going. But with the release of KoF 13 all that has changed! I'd be interested in going to a meetup once in awhile. If I've read correctly they're at this Comic Odessey place on Mondays right?

I get there at 7ish to make sure there's a spot for setup, and I help out a bit, too... Usually things start around 8, so that's a good time to be there. Just bring $3 for the session fee... Oh yeah, they sell drinks and chips, I think its like a dollar for each, I can't remember...

We stayed there til midnight-ish last time, so don't worry about rolling up at 10ish...
Sucks about amazon... I've never had issues with those cats, but what you're going through reminds me of when I ordered from Dr. Jays back in the day... What was to take about a few days took almost 2 1/2 weeks...

Definitely a great turnout this time around... Not only did we have a gangload of players, but we had quite a few spectators and lots of people interested in learning the game... I talked with a few of them in between matches while breaking the tables down, and they showed shared positive remarks for the most part...
The funny thing is that we're making a standout in the midst of 5+ UMvC3 setups and about 2 SSF4AE setups...
Next time we need 2 setups... I'm gonna use the same spot. If anyone has a monitor, please help out if you can for a 2nd setup. There were people who wanted to play, but were afraid of getting slaughtered by those more familiar with the game, and that's coming from the horse's mouth!!!
Props to those I fought who showed improvement as well...

Personally, the only people I can think of is Ace R. (from TekkenZaibatsu), he's out here, and maybe Ali from Comic Odyssey... Maybe Markman might have a stick to sell, but iunno... Pm those cats if you want, but your best bet right now is to probably get a stick from Gamestop in Nat'l City... They had at least some Hori EX Pros, and some Madcatz sticks both SE and TE (I'm not sure about the other models though)... If you get the SE though, make sure someone can mod it for you... I personally don't have spare parts, otherwise I'd help with that...
Worse case scenario, there's buying it online, and there's SRK...

Yeah its still going down, it's at Nat'l City though, not Chula Vista. Anyone here able to bring another xbox (or ps3) and/or a monitor for a 2nd setup??? I want to be able to have a "noob friendly" area, so new cats can try and learn the game out without fear of getting slaughtered for free...
Oh yeah, if you cats hear anyone talking about "yeah I used to play KOF, but they still stuck on MvC3 or whatever else, call 'em out and let them know now is a good time to get back into KOF...
I'm gonna try to help out people more this time around... Alot of SF players weren't used to being dedicated to whatever move they used (no FADC to make things safe)... Just an honest game...

Mad props to everyone that showed up tonight!!! I won't be around for the next 2 weeks, but I'll return crazy stronger than before, believe that!!! Please don't stop coming to the sessions!!! Just bring a setup, and hold it down while I'm gone...
I got hit up by one of the guys who helps coordinate the Monday Night Sessions, and he was interested in getting another setup as well. He was suggesting that I help the new cats in learning KOF, and I said "aight"... Anyone else who is strong enough in KOF, and are willing to help out, please let me know. More than likely it will be a training mode setup with like Terry vs Robert, or some basic characters. We got alot of SF4 players, and they don't know all of the shortcuts, tricks, and basics we might know, so lets help them out...
When I do come back though, I'll take a back seat primarily to help those understand the game. I'm so glad I got another person interested in Billy Kane... Nick if you're reading this, let this be some motivation for learning Billy Kane:

Unfortunately i cant level up and be a legit training partner/opponent for you guys until i fix my 360, but if you guys want to hold casuals not a CO i am there yall. Jinx you got to take me in the lab and show me how to play with billy. Anyways guys ill see you Monday hopefully someone brings a set up. And nikoli bro clark is scary as hell as anchor

Eventually I wanna hold tournaments and ranbats once people level up enough to throw down. I will say this if you wanna level up in kof start reading the tutorial section and data dump that sf stuff. Sf links will mess up your inputs imo.

Damn just one more week and I am free to goof off and play more kof. Next week is finals week won't be able to make it this monday. Monday after that I am going to see if I can bring my xbox and kof13. It depends on if I can get ride together to get home pretty late after the place closes.

I am down to play tomorrow. It usually gets posted on facebook monday mornings if CO is hosting anything. I can bring an xbox and the game but I don't have a spare tv to bring and I am not sure if they provide the tvs or not. When I get a chance I'll message them and ask about it if there are others still interested in going.

I know the feeling. I wish there were more places to get some offline casuals in for kof in general and have been thinking of a few places we could get going to including CO. I figure the more sessions the better it will be to level everybody up.
There is a guy who host casuals wednesdays and sometimes thursday for street fighter 4 and marvel in his backyard in paradise hills. I asked him at CO if he would ever have kof there and he said he would be cool with it as long as somebody bought a setup for it so I guess all we need is for people to show and post up at his pad with some kof.
Another idea would be to find a lan center that has an xbox setup and try to get on it during whenever play there. I don't know of many in san diego besides The office games in mission valley.
Thing is that can get expensive real quick. According to their website day passes are 10 dollars during weekdays and 15 dollars during weekends and its 5 dollars per hour regardless of when during the week.
Another option would be for somebody here to open their homes or something up to the community for kof casuals. I live at home with my mom still we couldn't really cram a lot of people in my room nor would I be allowed to have many in the house like that.(shout outs to adults living at home hahah)
However, I was thinking if I spent a day or so cleaning out my garage of all the junk and found some cheap tables and power strips and grab some cheap chairs. Clean out the spiders I might be able to host in my garage or maybe even in my small backyard. I am not sure how reliable the power outlet is back there tho considering it looks all rusted and shit ahahaha.

Woah 4 bar connections are awesome. Just played a set with donpiff and it played smooth as fuck. Much better than all the other games I've played online against other 3 and 2 bars.

As far as Benimaru's concerned, nah I'm not gonna main him... I liked playing with him in older KOFs and even in CvS2, but I just played with him for fun... I wanna unlock colors so I can make him look like Freakazoid... I might get serious with him though, but there's too many characters to use...
I am putting Raiden in the studio, so be ready for that... Stuff is gonna get punished with command grabs all day!!!
I will say you have gotten stronger since I last played you... Got on point with those Takuma charge combos even... Good stuff... Nice Athena combos also!!!

He usually has casuals in his backyard every wednesday night. We missed the first one but are you guys down to start going wednesdays too? Gotta represent dreamcancel!
If anybody else is interested in hitting this place up I can mesage him on facebook to come pop in on the thread and give out his address since I am not sure if he wants random people just giving it to strangers(he usually asks people to pm him personally on srk or facebook for address) He lives up in paradise hills and has been running casuals for a while now and runs tournaments/ranbats for sf and marvel all the time.
Also there is a place in santee called frubble that has free setups with consoles(ps3 I think) that usually has just sf and marvel. But I bet we could convince them to switch out at least one station for king of fighters if we all went down there. Like on a weekend or something since donpiff had been asking about weekend casual meetups.

Yea frubble is where all the box arena casuals and tournaments are hosted. Its free to play the games there so as long as its not a tournament of theirs or something they are directly hosting I don't think they take a cut of any money or anything. So if you have some past beef with boxarena nick I think you are in the clear.
I guess the main issue will be trying to get a station open if there are a lot of sf and marvel players there.

One thing tho is that all of their setups are ps3 so we would need somebody with the ps3 version of the game(I only gots xbox) and ps3 controllers/sticks

On wakeup srk they are talking about the evo season tournaments that you can get seed points for and they just listed a tournament called "Team mad catz championships" thats going to be here in san diego. I guess they just accidently announced it or something. April 13-15.
I am guessing KOF13 will be there since its going to be an evo game for people to get seeded for. So we have a major for san diego to look forward to.

We had a good turnout ayer, and hopefully once things start going strong, we can start getting tournaments started... I'm always here to help the guys unfamiliar to the game... Glad to break some of their fears of getting stomped, and just allowed them to try it out. Nick understands the game, too, it seems, and he helped out which was a plus...

You might want to try and contact the people at Winter Game Fest and ask them about a KoF tournament.
I was originally gonna go because they had Blazblue last year, but this year they don't so I decided I wouldn't. Then like two days ago I was informed through Dustloop that someone had got in touch with the people who ran WGF and asked about a BB tournament, and they said they were willing to do it provided they got 16 people to come.
I still don't know yet how that is going to turn out, but if it could work for Blazblue it could work for KoF too.
As for me, I won't be going probably. I've got other stuff to do on Saturday. Its supposed to start Friday at 5 though so I might be there for that.

and yea we were just talking about streaming casuals and events while at frubble. Just kind of talk at the moment I think but it would be awesome if we could make it happen. We'd need a laptop and the hd pvr. People say it is kinda booty for streaming and has some driver issues tho but its easily the cheapest option.

It might happen next saturday at ttf if cody is down to host it or at least lets us host it at the same place. gonna message him about it and tell him we have at least 3 of us confirmed. Always possible that others that are already going for other games might want in and we can at least have a small winner take all or something.
Let me just message him and see whats up. If he says no we can try to figure out something else to do or at least show up with a casual station. Visibility is always a good thing when trying to grow the game.

Good games and good turnout last night!!! Got a few people changing teams up, and we got new cats coming here playing, including a Chin player, too (showing off those French combos)!!! EDIT: GGs to all who showed!!! Big improvement on everyone's game so far... We ended up doing a 4 Man Round-Robin tournament, and congrats to Watts for winning that hard earned dough :) ... We had tons of close matches-- I mean a lot of them were to-the-wire...
We also had some more people show up for casuals, even if it was only for a couple of matches...
Oh yeah, props to Nick for holding it down for a few matches of MoTW... Great throwback matches-- plus that Terry was dope!!! Btw, Grant says "hi" and that he has more chest combos for ya, lol...
Next Monday, let's shoot for 2 setups!!! What I wanna do is have one for recorded matches, and put those up on Youtube, and have another setup available for those that just wanna play still without worrying about being put on blast... Honestly, having others watch you in order to constructively critique and help your game is awesome imo, but for some it's not, so I understand...

We managed to do the frubble thing only once so far. But I just went in and told the random guy working there I was meeting some others for some games and he let me set my xbox up and everything. That stuff is only for customers so you gotta buy something from them to be able to play there and that is it.

I'm trying to find a new location for the Blazblue scene in SD. Me and another guy alternate hosting gatherings each week but much to our surprise the amount of people who show up keeps growing, were at about 10 right now, and its kind of making it inconvenient for us to host at our houses/apartments. So I'm trying to switch over to Frubble since they do the Box Arena too.

Oh awesome. Yea just have to make sure to tell everybody who is showing up that before they play make sure to buy a drink or a sandwich or something and they are fine. They don't seem to mind at all as long as you support the place. When I went I got a strawberry "frubble" which is some sort of smoothie drink. about 4 bucks and it was awesome ahha.
But I just told the guy working there I was there to play some games with people and he pointed out where the stations were and to go nuts and was super friendly.

True enough those two dudes were really tough. Tho best way to get better is to play more and better people and to get more tournament experience Those guys up there are having tournaments like every week against each other.
Probably why the skill level is kinda low here in SD. We've only had one tournament a month ago versus those guys who got tournaments every weekend since november. Thinking about it, should probably be trying to get things popping here more often before we start traveling around.

And nikolai and jinxhand what do your friday nights look like? My weekend pretty much starts thursday afternoon as my classes all lgo from mondays though thursdays. If we found a place for fridays would that work for you guys?
Gotta try to find a day as many people as possible are able to attend while avoiding days that a lot of the capcom players might be playing a tournament on and try to get something going.
Also. I know online play is kinda ass but I've been able to get playable games with people who at least live within the city. Would any of you guys be down for some sort of online league going since its a bit hard to get decent games in due to different schedules? Just trying to find some more ideas outside of random casual games we have been having. I think next step is serious competition especially if want to compete against the rest of california.
Its pretty much assumed right now even tho nothing much has been said that in april when madcatz has its major it will have kof13 and will be kind of embarrassing if san diego can't represent at all.

I leave on Saturdays. Friday nights I either go to or host a Blazblue event so my Fridays are busy. I usually go up Saturday and come down on Monday. That'll probably change when next quarter rolls around.
I am down for trying online. Admittedly I haven't played more than two matches online, and both of those were atrocious. I'm willing to try and connect with you guys to see if we can get some good games in, but if those connections are garbage we should stick to offline meetups. CO is what I can make it to most often. We definitely should work something out though. I agree with you that we need to see SD represent at the next major.

I was talking to one of the guys at CO, and I was wondering if holding a free tournament would bring people out of their caves or not... Seems like some people are worried about getting crushed at the price of $2-$3, and I understand that from their perspective, so hopefully something like this can spark some interests...
I know people's schedules are mad busy right now, and SFxT isn't helping much either, but I personally wanna level up, and online is okay, but I prefer to step my game up in person...
JJ's spot is open for matches as well throughout the week... Just hit him up or hit me up and I'll get in touch with him to see what's going down... I'd like to start actually recording matches, since I finally got my jerry-rigged setup going, and I'm testing it now, and so far so good...

Props to those who showed... We ended up just doing recorded casuals rather than a tourney because it started off as 4 people, then went to 3, and one went to do SFxT casuals for a bit, but did get some KoF in earlier...
I'll post up the vids on my yt when I get home... Got a bit of chopping to do, b/c my max for now is 15 minutes... Other than that, no editing will be done to it in order to keep it legit...
Let's take that time to find the weakspots in our game... I know for some, we're not able to play as often as we'd like to, but we can still get what we can by watching these matches...
I know I have to work on better execution myself... I think I have my actual team now... The hard part is implementing spot on execution for confirmed hits...

free tournament didn't work as an incentive it seems and you know what. I keep wishing other people would see the true value of this game and you know what? I think it is time to really see what people think of kof13 in this city.
Lets pick a day and set up a real tournament. I am going to put my own money up to front this. A tournament with a pot of at least 60 dollars up for grabs. Yes I am going to put up 60 dollars upfront into the pot for a tournament.
I have no clue where we can have it at. Or what day. I have never ran a tournament or anything before so I have no clue how the logistics work. We can try doing it on a monday night at the comic store or possibly we can talk to cody at TTF and see if we can host it during one of his ranbat days(for example, he has one for sfxt comming up march 30th on a friday night) or try to get something ourselves going at frubble on a saturday.
Whatever. It doesn't matter. But whatever we decide it will be a pot of at least 60 dollars of my own money put up for this plus whatever gets added to the pot by people signing up and registering for the tournament. We could easily make it 5 bucks (2 dollars to where is hosting the tournament and 3 dollars to the pot?) if we got 8 people to sign up that would make the pot 84 fucking dollars.
how do pots usually get split? something like 60 percent to first place 30 percent to second place and 10 percent to third? that makes it what? 50 bucks to first 25 to second place and 9 dollars to third? If the possiblity of turning 5 bucks into 50 bucks can't entice anybody to want to play this game I guess we should just be happy we got a small handful of people to play casually. I've seen what most people can do by watching them play marvel and sf4. If those people put in just a bit of practice and play time into kof 13 I really think they'd be awesome at it. There is just not that much of a reason to since kof has never gone past much more than just one tournament and mostly just small casuals. If people had a serious reason to practice like they do for sf4 and marvel I wonder how many would truly fall in love with this game.
Anybody got any knowledge of how to run a tournament? Any good days? Try to get as many of us core group of dudes together as possible? I am totally serious about this right now.

A real tournament would require real people, and the sad truth is that we don't have enough people here who are committed to this game right now.
My thoughts on having a "legit" tournament is that this is premature. Unless it is an ungodly amount of money, the prize pot alone is probably not going to provide enough incentive for people to come. But if we do want to have a tournament in the future, we will need a few things:
- First we'll need a venue. It can't be somebody's house, it needs to be an actual place. Frubble hosted Valentine's Day Massacre and other Box Arena related stuff/tournaments, so I would say that is probably the best place in SD right now.
- Second, we'd need confirmed setups, as in setups that we know are going to show up no matter what. At least 4 or more. They would also have to have Asus monitors so that nobody could haggle or complain about lag or other such bullshit. The setups would also have to be all the same system, either ps3 or xbox.
- Third, we need people. 16 or more confirmed shows. Why? Because any less than that you get a shitty 8 man bracket or an even worse round robin format. The tournament could realistically be over in less than an hour if you have less than that number of people.
- Fourth, we'd need hype. Get some big names to show up. The prize pot also contributes to this, but as I mentioned earlier, its not the defining factor on its own. Mainly I think the prize should be large enough that people feel comfortable wasting gas to come out. We'd need to promote it not only on this site but on others. Maybe a fancy youtube video with terrible dubstep like most of the other trailers you see on youtube.
-Last, we would need to put it on a day that no major or other event, local or otherwise, is occurring. Is there is a KoF tournament somewhere else in SoCal, and that date conflicts with ours, I'm willing to bet that people won't show up for ours. In order to increase turnout, we'd most certainly need to put it on a weekend, either a Friday or a Saturday. Another thing is that we should not do it regularly. Biweekly events, in my opinion, tend to get less people total than a single event once every few months. This is because people say "oh, I can miss this one, the next one will be in two weeks anyway." You'll have a constant population of people who won't come because it isn't that special of an event.
All of these points are opinion only, I have never ran a tournament or have been intricately linked to one. But these issues come from my experience going to shitty Blazblue biweekly tournaments at Cal State Long Beach, and other scattered events in SoCal. In particular, I look at the event called "West Toast" that is held at Family Fun Arcade every once in awhile. I tried to go to bikweekly tournaments at FFA and it was just too far and too expensive, but to go out there for one day for a "bigger" event was worth it for me. It was worth it for a lot of other people too, as several high level players showed up as well as locals who spend all their time at FFA anyway.
The last thing I'd like to say about this is that, yeah our scene is pretty bad currently. Three dudes, that barely qualifies as a scene. But thats how BB started in SD too, I was there for it. It was 4 dudes instead of 3 and just by sticking around we turned that into almost 10 people now and that number is going up. It takes time for a scene to grow, so you just gotta be patient. I think a big problem is that people we see at CO always seem interested in KoF, but always pull out the "oh I'll just get wrecked if I play" excuse. It annoys me that it seems some people see a game whose combos are more than two hits and suddenly think that its too complex and they can't get into it. I think we should try being a bit more upfront about trying to get new people to play at CO and easing up a bit when or if we play them so we don't crush their self-esteem. I hope we can get more people interested, but it just seems to difficult to get people to turn away from Capcom.

This could also just be a visibility thing. People randomly play at CO since there is usually a setup of some kind there. It died out in other places like at ttf since none of us dedicated kof players were there repping it. People splitting up their time with other games that already get more attention.
Gotta keep in mind sfxt just dropped and probably took a lot of peoples interest away. From what I read on facebook regular ssf4 is having problems getting enough players for tournaments too.
I almost forgot also about the team madcatz major that is happening here in san diego in mid april. Surprised they still haven't put out any information about that yet. But it is bound to have king of fighters 13.
I guess we should just forcus on getting as much practice and hope that having a good turnout at that tournament will get more people interested in kof?

I'm not even gonna lie, KOF in SD is mad hard to do... But, I do appreciate you guys' effort and dedication... You also gotta take in consideration that there are some cats in the military who go out to sea and such, so that does put a damper on our scene... I happen to be doing shore duty, so I lucked out... We gotta get Eugene back on KOF as well (the Athena/Yuri/Mai[¿?] player), 'cause I know he shows up to watch, but might get maybe one match... Our scene is kinda more than 3 people though, but we're the ones who manage to show up more than others...
As for TTF, I'd like to go, but I goto CO for the Think Tank, as I'm working on some projects with Beau and Alí, and that's where we meet up from 6-8pm... Every once and awhile, we do go have a match or two in KOF and BF... I managed to show off both SFEX2 (best SF since ST imo), and I just showed off MBAACC as well...
With regards to not crushing cats, well, I'ma be real with you... I picked up Kensou with that sole purpose of having a character that I can use without blowing people up... Look what happened--- I'm working on Ralf, and might possibly get back on Elizabeth again... I mean, even if we do pick other characters for the sake of not merking dudes and pushing them off, even with basic fundamentals, we're still at an advantage... We'd eventually have to dumb our game down, and that can have a backwards effect and mess our game up...
WildWallace, you're right about all of those points... I know my monitor is good for the price I got... To my knowledge I don't drop frames, but I know someone's gonna be beefing if it's not a CRT or a Asus monitor...

I know the scene isn't dead though... I look at the GG/MB/AH scenes and they're barely there, some living further up north and others are scattered about... The VF scene starts with me, then jumps all the way to Riverside, and others again are scattered throughout SoCal, but it's like how KOF is in MN, where cats live too far away from even being able to battle frequently... We're not that bad from the looks of it...
Lastly, as for the vids:
The quality for the vids are meh, so I ended up getting a Roxio Game Capture, which actually works wonders for not being an Avex or Hauppauge... I'm currently trying to upgrade the quality of the vids, which I managed to do for another vid awhile ago, but it's taking awhile... Nevertheless, they're gonna get uploaded... I'm actually more excited for next Monday, since I'll be recording with better quality, and less cables...

Can't really make it to TTF. Now that I know my schedule for next quarter I can say that that isn't going to change. At least I don't think it will.
I didn't know there was gonna be a team madcatz major in april, though I'm pretty pumped about it now that you've mentioned it. I'm definitely going to spend a bit of extra time on KoF now that I have something to prepare for.
Last thing: I might now make it to CO this week. I've got a paper due anywhere from 7-10pm that day, so its possible I might be working on it till the last minute, though I hope I won't have to. Beyond that I'm going to be gone for almost two weeks after that, so I will definitely miss the CO meetup after this one.

So Rhythmaxxed tried some netplay earlier. I felt it wasn't too bad but we got some crazy lagspikes sometimes. I added you as a friend on xbl Jinx, I wanna try some netplay with you soon, before I leave town, so I can truly determine whether or not my connection is ass.
And I know you asked on Dustloop Jinx, but I'll answer you here: I do play GG. It was my first fighter ever. I could've sworn I told you. Anyway, yeah, you can bet on me playing it again, for real this time, if it comes back in style. I honestly half expect it to get a final death like Third Strike did when the re-release comes around.

Yeah GGXX was something I dabbled in when I moved to Hawaii back in '04... The scene I was in played every fighter out there, but we mained Tekken primarily, with KOF and GG after that... I went from Jam to Slayer, then to Testament, and noticed everyone playing as him, so I tried messing around with Bridget and liked his style... I still use Testament though, he reminds me of something from JJBA somehow... I can't wait for it to drop on xbla... I might double dip like I will for FS if there's enough people on both systems...
Oh yeah, Dios-X plays GG also... I didn't get a chance to fight him, but from what I was told, he's the man to beat over at CO... Gotta get a setup going for that sometime...
Still working on that roxio (stupid registry/regediting is hell right now)... I'll keep you cats posted when I got it to work consistently, and without the Kanye-chipmunk effects...

Props to those who showed... We had at least 7 people playing throughout the night... Let's continue to show support so CO can keep hosting... Not too many people came yesterday, and even though there were like several games running, the usual numbers are dwindling... I know not everyone's able to make it, but whenever you do, try to bring a friend or two if possible... Let's keep that hype going strong!!!

Sharing that tidbit of info can make our gameplay even stronger... Trust me, it's hard, especially since I play with Kensou; but, the more you know about him, the more I have to step my game up, so in turn we both become strong overall...

Thanks for the welcome! I hope CO lets KOF happen next week. I will play any fighting style as long as the character feels good but mostly a fan of grappler style characters or rushdown. So far iv been playing Andy,Clark, but deciding a third between duo lon or elisabeth.

From what I'm told, next Monday (the 23rd) is good for CO, so sessions will be going down... I'll keep you guys informed on what's going on... I will have my KOF setup as usual, and if anyone else wants to bring there's please feel free to do so... There will be a SG setup, since alot of people (myself included) have gotten into the game... So those are the 2 big games that CO is primarily promoting...
If you can make it on Monday, please do so, and try to bring as many people as you can... The more the merrier, right?
As for Box Arena, when is that again?? I'd like to show up and support in some shape or fashion... I wasn't able to go ayer because I had a meeting that lasted til 10 something... Either Wallice or Rhythmaxed, or anyone here for that matter, if any of you guys are willing to support it, I'm down for that and will assist... Even if we don't do $$$ tourneys just yet, having something on display like a ranbat or something would be dope... I mentioned you two, because you guys seem to have y'alls foot in the door with those guys, so sessions and setups might come by easier (I'm assuming)...
For some SFxT left a sour taste in people's mouths... KOF can fix that... If there's another setup, I'm willing to do tutorials on my setup, while others battle on the other setup if need be... I've heard some people say the game is hard because of inputs or whatnot, and I'm quick to break that stigma, because I personally can tell you games that have hard inputs. Try to do a GC on JJBA (consistently) for starters...
Anyway, I'm still training like a mofo, making sure I don't drop my combos and stuff... Let's continue to help each other out on our game, and whatever findings you come across while playing, post that joint up and help the community grow...
Most importantly, thank you guys for your support in any fashion or form!!! We all have crazy schedules and such, but you guys still pull through whenever you can... That says alot!!! To the new cats, thank you for even posting up, here or elsewhere as well as showing your support... Hope to battle you cats soon...

Box Arena is on Tuesdays Jinx. Its canceled for next week though. I can ask around and see if they'd be interested in having KoF, but space is tight. The reason I brought it up was that there was suddenly all this interest on the FB groups out of nowhere. Seemed really weird to me.

Didn't really have much time to dive into KOF over the weekend... CO I'm told is going down tonight, so bring that A-game, and another setup if possible...
I'll try to stick to one setup so newcomers and those who want some form of training can come to that particular side... If not, I'll just help out whenever I can if I'm fighting or not... Anyone else willing to do the same, please do so... For the most part, our scene isn't just friendly, but we should all be knowledgeable to a point at least...
I'll keep running my usual team, so I can show holes in each character... Kensou's gonna die alot tonight, I can feel it... :(

Yea I try to be a nice as possible to people who are around watching the game or wanting to try to play but I lack a lot of ingame knowledge tho so and hate the fact that I can't really personally help many people with questions since I really only know much about my own characters. It sucks that the best I can do is refer them to dreamcancel really.

GGs to all who showed up!!! We came through with a good turnout unlike the rest-- I guess no one likes SF4 anymore...
We even got a bit of SG in near the end of the night... Dope skills and potential were shown there as well...
DaBakerMann - I'm liking the team you are currently using... The synergy is great, and the order is good now... Just keep up with learning those "Clark-isms" and start taking notice of when to punish moves with his b~f+P, or when to use the EX version of that move... j.B and airthrow are your friends, too... With EX Iori, remember his Taco crossup (j.4B), j.B (best air-to-air option), and j.D... I also noticed no EX Iori player use s.A as a close poking tool (I think I saw s.B though), nor did anyone go for his command grab which would've ended matches rather quickly, especially with Drive meter... Also, depending on the range, cr.C, and cl.D should work as decent AA without the use of dp+P... I'll play with EX Iori next time and see if my gameplay can help... This stuff I mentioned all Iori players should remember... Oh yeah, s.D can act as a good poking tool, just be mindful of the range... I don't remember much with Andy, but jjsmack was holding it down with him, so was Eric (the Chin player)... Poke poke to elbow and poke poke some more...
jjsmack - Great to have you back... I wanna see some HD combos with Leona!!!
Wallice - I think your EX Iori is the most solid so far... Just work in those command grabs, and f+B when you can... j.B and j.D, too-- it's way better than his j.CD... I'd say j.CD every once and awhile... I'm gonna try and work on some Neomax tactics...
glod - I don't even know if you're on this site, but I tip my hat to ya for playing, even though this isn't your main game... There were at least 3 people there who play the game well enough and aren't too "new" to the game, and they weren't even playing it (they stayed on SF4)... But you came through and kept playing for the most part... If you're still interested in learning the game, pick up Vice, Raiden, Clark, and Daimon, maybe Maxima... They're about as "grapply" as you can get... Maxima's now moreso about breaking guard, and taking hits with his armored normals, but he's got a command grab... Hwa has a grab super, and he can do "Verizon Wireless" (anywhere, anytime) HD combos that are really easy to do... I know Wallice will help you learn the game, but I'll help out, too...
Eric - You still impress me with that Chin of yours... I'm also amazed at the fact that our Kensou playstyles are totally different, yet effective... I think you're pulling more wins with him that I am though... I just troll now it seems...
No one here plays Claw (Sad) Iori, Beni, Ash, or Saiki... I hope that changes eventually...
Lastly, no CO next Monday... I wanna hit up that Box Arena though if they're hosting KoF...

Yeah, it was spelled just like that, and I think the sign is still there...
I dunno what the whole deal is with the place, if they're relocating or just straight up closed down or what... It sucks I will say that... I was supposed to play Hanafuda this Monday, too...
So what does that mean for us??? We gotta find another place to battle... Right now, there are only 3 places I can think of at the moment: TTF, JJ's place (he hosts KOF and SCV), and Frubble... What say you?!?!?

The reality is that while we are pulling bigger numbers, and slowly increasing every week, we still aren't making the owner of Frubble enough money to warrant him not double booking us. We've already had to sit through a screamo concert, and either this coming Friday or the Friday afterward we're going to have to endure some religious groups' sermons. I think that putting our two communities under the same roof for a night would benefit us both. I also know that there is a new group of people who have showed up the last two times, who also play KoF and bring their own setup for it each time. Jinx, you've been missing out, we've had Melty and KoF and you haven't even been around!

The reality is that while we are pulling bigger numbers, and slowing increasing every week, we still aren't making the owner of Frubble enough money to warrant him not double booking us. We've already had to sit through a screamo concert, and either this coming Friday or the Friday afterward we're going to have to endure some religious groups' sermons. I think that putting our two communities under the same roof for a night would benefit us both. I also know that there is a new group of people who have showed up the last two times, who also play KoF and bring their own setup for it each time. Jinx, you've been missing out, we've had Melty and KoF and you haven't even been around!

I was cool with the owner, and was working on a project with him, too, but from what I gathered, dude didn't tell quite a few people about this "move"... A buddy of mine who's pretty cool with the owner didn't even know... We bumped into each other at Marukai and I told him about it... It's mad crazy, because supposedly it "was bound to happen", yet quite a few people didn't know about it... I went up there and saw some people who were kinda standing around, because they went there probably to get YuGiOh cards or something, and they had the same reaction I had...
Well, I'm down for a session on Friday at least... Can't do Tuesdays because I have meetings then, and they run for a few hours, plus I use the extra time to work on a beat, or at least search for plugins and samples...

Well, I'm thankful for your words of encouragement, Jinx! I'm interested in getting into KoF, I'll probably pick up a copy once classes are over. Also I hope to see a bunch of KoF people on Friday at Frubble. We've been collaborating pretty hardcore with Box Arena, so to further unite all the SD fighting game communities would be awesome.

So, speaking of the Box Arena, I talked with Frank about having KoF at Box Sessions Live, and he said he was willing to give it a shot. So on Tuesday the 15th, show up if you can. I'm pretty sure we have enough just from the people I see at Box every week to do a 8 man tournament, but if you guys could show up as well we could really blow this up.
Also, this Friday we might run a tournament for KoF depending on how many people show up to that. I am hoping by getting all of us working more closely together that we can blow up the KoF scene in San Diego!

Hey guys, new KoF player here now with some free time with summer coming up. I've been to Frubble and TTF a few times last year for SF4, and I've always wanted to go to CO Mondays so I'm sad to see it go.
I'm down with Fridays at Frubble and I just wanted to know if you folks play on PS3 or 360 setups since I only own PS3 sticks. I know the Box sessions/tourneys are mostly on PS3 but I just want to be sure.

So as I mentioned last Friday, CO is actually not "dead"... It's just relocated out in La Jolla... What does that mean for us??? Honestly, Frubble's probably still the best bet, 'cause I don't know what's going on over at the new joint...
I was also thinking... Last Friday I was paying mad attention to our matches and such, trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong in particular... Then that Andy Zan-ei Ken punish vid was posted up, and it hit me... Looking at alot of the matches we've been having, we're not punishing stuff like we should, I'm totally at fault in that department...
I don't know if its because we play online or what, but I'm personally gonna dedicate a gangload of time in figuring out what can be done against any move at any range... And guess what character I started with??? Yep, if you said Leona, you guessed right... I came across a bunch of stuff that Billy can do against most of her specials... Not too much can be done against that j.D, air qcb+A except a move or two... But yeah, there's a bunch of things that I should've been doing that I haven't, and I need to force myself to be on the proactive side of things and look out for those opportunities to punish and/or combo...
We're all pretty good in the mixup department. There's a bunch of things I'm starting to learn with Kensou now, and I'm officially gonna learn some more characters... Sad Iori is on the list, and I wanna get back on a few other characters I used a few months ago...

Yeah Jinx, I am going to be spending a lot more time reading up on some information. A lot of things that give me headaches in this game could be avoided if I just knew how to punish them right. A lot of things don't LOOK punishable but are.

So I have heard that CO has a new spot that is still in National City, and not very far from the old location. However I have not had a chance to physically go down there to confirm this. Apparently they have been hosting sessions as well. I was told it's across the street from the Wal-Mart on Highland Ave and Plaza Blvd. Once again, I haven't had a chance to confirm the info.

Far as I know Frubble isn't happening anymore on Tuesdays until after Evo. They let people show up but the Box Arena isn't showing up in an official capacity. So I'm probably not going to be showing up on Tuesdays.

yeah sorry man, but last week they charged me 120 to pull out all the info on my hard drive, then told me i needed a new heard rive which cost me 70. i got a new hard drive and installed it and it still didn't work. so i went back today and they said it wasn't the hard drive after all but the cord that connects the hard drive to whatever, and all of a sudden i had a new problem with my fans. So for 60 bucks they said they fixed that. then i went to ucsd where i saw you but it still didn't work, so i called the apple number and complained and they made a new appointment and now basically i will have a brand new mac in a week because they sucked so hard says manager.

It's the SD thread for VF. Sad news guys. My parents are not going to renew the lease on my place in SD, and I have no job, so I'll be moving out of San Diego by the end of July. I'm still gonna try and make Frubble meetups when I can, because since I've lived there I know how hard it is to get people to show up and play, and how few people there are. But there may be a point where burning that gas just isn't feasible. I'm hoping I'll see you guys at other events in SoCal though.

1235 Highland Ave is the new addy. It starts at 8pm and goes on til about Midnight. If you go through the back door, you'll see a big white door with a Heath Ledger Joker face on it. Go in and take the door to the right. The front has a bunch of comic book posters on the windows. You can't miss it.

Evo was pretty cool. Honestly, I feel like I had more fun playing blackjack till 4 in the morning than I did at the actual event. A bit too crowded for me. Finals were pretty cool though.
Btw Nikolai, sorry I didn't spend any time with you man, but I was flitting about all over the place just about all the time. I barely had some time for KoF casuals with my buds in Imperial Palace, but that was it. Hopefully next year I'll be able to make more time to spend with my buds from SD.

Good games yesterday Wallice, we got some good sets in. Although I'm running into the same wall that I ran into back when I still played SF4 where my defense is ass and my offense is auto-pilot heavy. So, apparently Frubble is closing down on the 23rd. From this point forward I think its safe to assume that we will be going back to Comic Odyssey on Mondays for KoF, since that is something all of us could handle. But, I'll also be trying to see if I can secure a new venue for Dustloop stuff for BB and the upcoming P4A. If any of you have any ideas or would be interested in that when it happens, let me know.
So please, show up this Friday the 20th. If you don't I'll cut you so bad, you'll wish I hadn't cut you so bad.
Humpty: GGs man. Based on the sets we played, I feel like Kim is your strongest character, while Ralf is your weakest. Mr. Karate was good for one-off character kills, but he didn't see to do much if he didn't have the meter do that. I would suggest switching Ralf out or working on him hardcore, and polishing your Mr. Karate so that he is a bit more threatening without meter. Definitely abuse j.cd more.

Didn't miss much. Past two or three weeks we have been hitting up CO and TTF a lot and have even been getting a few others playing the game a bit more. Persona 4 arena is looking like the new hot thing and has been having strong showings at nearly every gathering.
Other than that nothing else much. Gonna be a bit busy over this next week so I wont be at TTF but hopefully we can get some games in at CO saturday night?

Word up!!! I told you man.. Cats keep sleeping on this game... Dictator is actually a CvS2 style threat in that game; Guile has decent combos. etc... Every character in that game is damn good imo... Even low tiered ass Pullum has some crazy stuff I was showing off a bit... My only beef with the game is that they needed to add the original arcade soundtrack, Gouki, Blair and (most importantly) Allen Snyder needed to be in the game also...
Speaking of sleeping, I'm sleeping on that Kensou combo I need to start working on that stuns... I missed some punishes with Mature fighting Leona... I'm starting to get her down now...

Never understood why people hate on the sfex series.
For starters, cats hated on the game because it was in 3d, which is a no-no for 2d purists, even though the game played on a 2d plane.
Another reason the game is hated on is because of the extra characters that Arika designed (some where in a game called Fighting Layer which is another fun game). Personally, Arika's characters looked way better than Capcom's (I only felt that Dictator, Claw, and Blanka were creatively designed), and when you think about it, any Capcom fanboy or VF hater can't argue that SF characters are more or less "attractive" than VF character designs, because quite honestly they're on the same level imo; Capcom just happened to design theirs first...
The fighting system was alittle unorthodox in the first EX to be honest. You had the ability to cancel specials with another special, and you could do super cancels into other supers... That's how Ken got his shoryuken~roll~shinryuken combo originally, not CvS2... Plus there were certain conditions in where you could juggle the opponent to a certain degree... EX2 took advantage of that with the excel combo system...
Honestly, anyone who calls himself/herself a SF4 player or has ever played the game needs to get on EX2+... Capcom literally stripped this game, and put it on an engine similar to Battle Fantasia (which SF4 got its inspiration from [Ono said it!!!]); Battle Fantasia is faster than SF4 though... EX2 has meteor supers which they basically turned into Ultras without the risk of losing all of your meter. Guard break became Focus Attack (Saving Attack in Japan), except in SF4 you have a way of canceling the move if you're not the "dedicated" type and are afraid of getting your unblockable beaten by something like a mashed out shoryu (damn 09ers lol j/k)... Then Capcom added some of the good features of SF3 and put it in SF4...
Anyway, the game is great imo... Sure there's some broken things like Chun's infinite (which is actually hard to do), and Rosso has a 3 meter combo that takes out a grip of life, but even that takes some serious practicing to do, the game should've gotten more love... Maybe an HD remake would help that...
Straight up, I feel the same way about EX2+ as I do with KOFXI... The game was ridiculously great, and is the 3rd game in the great debate of the best KOF, but 98 players, 02 players, and everyone else that falls in between kinda keep it from getting any shine... Same with KOFNW...

@Rhythmaxed I went to the OFC gathering before the last one. Those guys are cool as fuck. The venue is awesome and there're plenty of games to play. Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the most recent gathering they had. But they host every two weeks, so we can roll up together and play some KOF with those guys next time maybe.

Last time I hosted, I had a good number of people, though most were there for KOF, we did do other fighters (TTT2, AH3, SFEX2+, etc), and VF was no exception.
As always, if you have a setup, feel free to haul it, but you're not obligated to do so. I welcome everyone, so please bring a friend or 2, even if they don't play VF. Chances are I have the game they play, and if not, they're welcome to bring either the game, and/or a setup for it. At one point in the evening I busted out my SNES for TMNT:TF. Yeah I have love for all fighters, or at the very least respect...
I have 1 x360 and 1 ps3 setup, with a spare tv for whatever. If you have a ps3 stick or a ps2 stick with a converter, bring that with you, because sadly I only have 1 ps3 stick, and I haven't had time to "fix" my hrap2.
Seriously though, if you have friends who play other fighters, bring them, too.. I don't wanna leave other scenes out just because they don't play VF... With Frubble down, and Cosmic Odyssey being "sometimey" I don't want our options to diminish. I'll help scenes out when I can despite my hectic schedule, and the time is now...

I started to remember a few Armaggon tricks, so next time it's definitely on!!! I am finally glad to see Chrome Dome being used properly though...

Friday the 28th, I'm hosting again... Got a b-day to celebrate this Friday (the 21st), and for those waiting on the Mayan doomsday, I'll give you cats some time to welcome that ginormous meteor or Mars People to Earth for our pending destruction--that is if the "fiscal-cliff" doesn't end us all a la Great Depression of the 1930's...
Anyway, I plan on recording some KOFXIII, so bring that A-game, 'cause I'm stepping mine up... I got half days now at work, so best believe when I'm not on Guardians of Middle-Earth (dope game, check it out!!!), I'm gonna be doing some practice in the studio with some characters old and new...
I'm also currently working on a combo vid of sorts--- Currently, it's a compilation of NGBC, Battle Fantasia and VF5FS combos/setups and other crazy leftovers, but if you have a combo/setup or whatever to contribute for "any" game, lemme know, and that Friday I'll chop some time off to help record this said clip... If you have the means to record it, bring the footage and I'll add it, and edit if need be...
Oh yeah, for this upcoming session on the 28th, I need you cats to invite whoever the hell can and is willing to come... Sure, KOFXIII is gonna be the main game, on my "megazord" of a tv (the big gray one), but with the other setups I want to have games that ppl are actually willing to play... Straight up though, if cats wanna hit up TMNT TF, then I'll set it up... I only have one request though, can someone bring SF4AE for ps3... I took the plunge only for my xbox, and I'm not willing to snag that joint again just for my ps3 (there's just some games I won't do that for, but whatever)... So for now I'm planning on having 1 KOF setup, 1 SF4 setup pending someone brings that joint in-- if not, it turns into whatever fighter I have for ps3, unless someone brings in something like TTT2 or P4A... My thing is this: I need cats to come and play... Hate to be that guy who is negative but if you really want people from street fighter or other games to come play at your house you would have to move it off a day that TTF does its sf4 tournaments. The day when those two sf heads showed up was when ttf was closed for the night and they didn't feel like driving to clairemont to where sf4 got relocated for the night(every one else did I guess)
Vast majority of people willing to play other games only play them as a side game to marvel and sf4 and they are willing to stick to going to TTF. The day when those two sf heads showed up was when ttf was closed for the night and they didn't feel like driving to clairemont to where sf4 got relocated for the night(every one else did I guess)

No I don't think it's being negative at all... It's a look at things from a different perspective, and I appreciate that greatly...
I chose Friday to be the "meet up" day because it's the best time for most of us to meet up.. We all have things on Saturday most times, at least I do (music/production/etc), and I initially didn't want to overlap with CO's sessions if they even held sessions on Saturday any more...
I know TTF is and has been around, and I totally forgot about them hosting on Fridays, I only remember Wednesdays... I wouldn't mind trying a Saturday in the future, maybe even when the sun is still out and it's not too freezing or whatever... I'm still sticking to the 28th for now since that's best for most people though, unless not everyone can make it on Friday...
I'm not trying to out do any other venue that's hosting. I actually have multiple reasons I'm hosting. Despite me not being able to do much in terms of hitting up tourneys (that might change real quick though), I would at the very least like to have sessions, while simultaneously not having the "crusade" vibe of "'X' game is better than 'Y' game", but rather show cats that there are other great fighters that are out there... I'm also not trying to leave scenes in the dust, because I know how that feels (hell I play VF and MB)... I've passed far too many ppl who say they play 1 game, but can't find anyone else to play because everyone else is playing something else and isn't willing to learn another game... Things like that kill me, I think because I'm not a closed-minded person, and I feel that situations like that show closed-mindedness... Also, not all "anime-fighters" are ass-holes, and I plan on showing that by my personality...
Real talk, I don't expect to suddenly have a stuffed garage full of people... It'd be nice, but I don't forsee something like that to occur... Whoever's willing to come, come... If not, it's cool, no bad blood... My priorities personally go to both KOF and VF equally, then every other fighter afterwards (yeah even EX2, MB, and TF)... I plan on supporting those 2 games first, because quite honestly, these are ones most neglected... The GG scene itself is ever changing, and can easily turn from GGXX to BB, SG, VSav/Vhun, P4A, MB, HnK, or even AH3 just because it falls under "anime fighter", and the scene in general and DL supporting the games on their forums... KOF at one point in time was divided (98 vs 02), and even some only prefer those over XIII...
I will say this though: though I'm into XIII heavily, I will support those cats who only play games like MOW or RBFF, because that might be their true favorite game and they probably put mad hours of time learning it, and it sucks to only have 2-3 ppl on GGPO to play and 0-1 people in real life to play against (it's possible to level up with only 2-3 people though)... Back to my point, some smaller scenes have other options to fall back on per sé, not KOF or VF... SC players can easily shift to Tekken or DOA (most likely the latter because of the gameplay similarities [I'll break that joint down later])...
In all I guess I'm trying to support all scenes, but especially those neglected perhaps... While I'm not a fan of SF4, those that do wanna hang out and play can do so at my place-- I'm not so anti-SF4 that I don't flat out support it (I do play it too I swear lol)... I just feel its a dumb downed version of SFEX2 which I've explained to several ppl on numerous occasions (your paradigm will indeed be shifting when I'm done explaining)...
Real quick, lemme thank you guys for your support!!! Regardless of what game you play, or what you bring, even if you came and didn't play a damn thing or the game you came for, just showing up alone shows that this stuff is not in vain... Hell, even if you didn't come, but still showed interest in coming, thank you for at least doing that!!! It can only get better from here...
Let's start getting creative with our character specific gameplay!!! They say it can't be done with Kensou, and I personally want to prove cats wrong... I also plan on recording, so be ready for that!!!

On a lighter note I just wanna remind y'all in the SD area that Oceanside Fight Club hosts free casuals, and $2.00 tournaments every other saturday for various games including KOF. Real talk, we need to revive the MoTW scene... I was hitting up some cats about why that game in general gets some play, then it dies out quick... I know I'm not too heavy in 3S, but it's very similar to the game and it's constantly getting "resurrections" and such (some say in Japan only though, but I come across cats who are still on it, and you have heads like Renic, and Pyrolee (?) who hit the game up and make tuts and stuff... Why can't Garou get that same type of love?!?!?! The game is stupid easy to get into, easier than 3S, KOF (any of 'em), Divekick, and any other game that has some learning curve (or none)... Iunno... I still play the game, and think its worth the hype... Have you guys ever played the game, and if so, what were your thoughts/feelings about it???
I'm still pushing that KOFXIII though, just sayin'... XD

As for garou.
I use to play it sometimes back in my kalliera/ggpo whatever days when I would play pretty much anything. I use to like it but never really got good at it much like all the other games I just played randomly. I used to use rock howard and terry. I've seen it on xbla and sorta want to grab it but I know I won't put that much time into it. I dunno about playing it enough to start a revival of a scene for it tho but yea I'll be down to play it occasionally when I need a break from kof13.
I also grabbed that vf5:fs on xbla arcade jinx. I havent had time to get in and learn what changes they made to brad since the last time I played it at CO it seemed like they changed his clinch moves(that or I just forgot them)
In training mode for kof13 trying to get mr karate down. Some of his stuff is harder to time and do than takuma but damn I think he might be a lot more versatile and have a few more options.

I definitely don't mind helping you learn Brad... I know enough to win matches, but I do know the changes/new moves and other stuff that makes him great... Truth be told, other than Vanessa and Pai, Brad can give me a hard time, so I'm gonna be expecting that once you have him down pact...
I'm currently working on guard break strings, other uses for HD mode, and combos that lead into setups... I wish Kensou had at least his dash punch from 98, but I'm still feeling like he's so underrated... Oh yeah, I'm liking Kim this time around... I've hated him for so long, but I do like this one... I wish he had is stomp though...
If you guys are down for 02UM or 98UM matches, I'll set those up also...

I hadn't played Garou in years, but it was pretty fun picking it up again. I think I might play it for shits and giggles from time to time. Might reinstall GGPO so I can play.

Edit- Looking at the invited and going list on the facebook page for the saltmines event looks like oceanside fight club folks are going to that. So I doubt there is going to be anything going on in oceanside. Works for me since it is much closer. Not sure if we could get 8 players for a bracket but should get some decent casual sessions in.

Real quick, I know some of you cats mentioned wanting to learn VF to some extent, and either put it on the backburner or just flat out said nevermind to it... I'm still willing to help you guys understand the game, and though it may seem overwhelming, it's not... I would like to know what made you guys change your mind about the game though... Wallice, I know we talked a bit about it last session, but I never got the chance to truly see you in action with the game... Let's try a few matches or whatnot...
Also, for what it's worth, despite not having TTT2 yet I can still help out with understanding the game, or a specific character per sé (anyone T6 and before sadly)... I'll probably work on getting the game this or next week--- we'll see...
On a side note, I do appreciate the brief character breakdown on Shen, C.Iori, and even Maxima... I gotta analyze my game and see where my flaws are with my team/gameplay... Speaking of which, I haven't had time to upload anything yet, but I will do that most likely this weekend...

From what I understand, Ryan has stated that he's willing to run a tourney for ANY fighter as long as it has at least EIGHT entrants, and casuals for any game are always welcome. We haven't had an 8 man bracket for KOF in a while, so I don't see it happening this Saturday. There's a slight chance we could get 8 if all the OFC KOF'ers make it down, but either way I still want to go. So let's meet up this Saturday and get some matches in!!!!!

Hey guys, a bunch of the Dustloop guys are holding sessions at the Saltmines on Fridays for P4A/GG/BB/etc., so if any of you are interested in going and can bring setups for KoF and any other game, that would be great. I can bring a PS3 setup with several games if the Saltmines has an extra monitor I can use. Let me know if you guys are interested and can make it out on Friday 7pm-12am.

Props to all who came this past Friday. Glad to get some VF in even though it wasn't too long. Also glad to get some SG and MoTW in as well.
As stated on Friday, I wouldn't mind showing up at saltmines an doing sessions there if allowed. I'm not sure what their plans are as of yet, but we should be able to hold something. I wanna showcase several games in conjunction with KoF. Right now, my sights are for MoTW, KoF XIII and 02UM and of course VF5FS. SG needs some love too. I'm still down for helping cats learn whatever game as well.
If we can't have sessions there, Casa no Jinx will be open.
Lets try to get in touch with the owner and post up our findings.

The SD Dustloop guys are pretty cool. I'm 99% sure they would be fine with us joining them at a Saltmines Friday session. Actually I've been meaning to make a dustloop account so I can contact them.

I've played Jojo's but I never really got into it and learned it. Maybe one of these days I'll go back and play more of it since the game is a lot of fun and I'm a big fan of the manga. I am looking forward to Jojo's All Star Battle even though it probably won't be a competitive game.

@Jinx This is a bit late in responding, but my best (and only) combo with kouma in MB is to combo into A rekka -> B rekka JC j.a j.a j.a (jumping) B rekka (jumping B rekka). The last hit slams them down but is a bounce tech and usually pushes them into the corner or close to it. It does 3500 damage or so. I usually follow up with cr.c which will knock do hard knock down if they don't tech in time or do tech and forget to block low. If they are in the corner and don't tech at all, I can do DP super which adds like 1100 damage or so.

@Mild Wallice (lol): I've gotta write out the combo I did with C-Kouma, but I think it does more, but doesn't give oki... I think I like that combo you wrote down more, though I personally prefer F-Kouma for better rekkas...
GGs to those who showed up at Saltmines!!! I definitely plan on doing more of that, but that doesn't mean Casa no Jinx is going outta business lol...
EDIT 4 Wallice: Try this out with C-Kouma:

That there does around 3610 and you can do more if you replace the throw with either the air rekkas or even the super...
He's got some shenanigans I think I'm starting to see, but I'm still testing him out... Txt me if you're down for netplay matches or whatever...
I just found another stronger combo that doens't even need meter:
2A, 2A, 5B, 2B, 5C, 2C, 236A, 236C, 236C, jc. jA, jC, jc, jA, jC, air throw
That does something around 4200-ish... Sometimes if you time the rekkas right, you can get that second 236C to grab, and then the opponent will do a bounce more likely to the corner, where you want them to be anyway... I'm trying to see what can be done after that, but I'm just thinking oki is the only thing available...
Oh yeah on that first jc, you'll be crossed up, so you gotta jump the other way. That can actually play in your favor though, especially if you're either closer to the corner (you'll swap outta there), or from midscreen, you have a chance to push the opponent to the corner with your combo...

I'll probably be doing Saltmines again, primarily for AH3, and JJBA or any other game training for those who want it... If anyone wants me to bring my 360 for Battle Fantasia, NGBC, or JJBA, lemme know, otherwise I might not bring it with my ps3... I'm also down for older KOFs, too, which are on my 360, so lemme know wassup...
Maybe next week, I'll open up the dojo, especially since the weather's looking a bit nicer lately...

@Wallice: Thanks for all the games last night. I feel that I am slowly getting better, I just wish I could play this game more often with more people. The good thing is that I could probably develop the fundamental skills I lack and break my bad habits by playing any game, not just KOF13.

@DooDaHumptyHump Good games. You definitely are getting better, just slowly. The most important thing though is that you're learning as you play. When I started playing Ex Iori on Friday it was clear that at first you didn't know what to do, but by the end of the evening I had to actually work hard to make sure he didn't die, and our last few games you just bopped him immediately. More than game knowledge, the ability to adapt like that is a far more valuable skill. I think the best thing you could do is play more 13, but we'll probably have to wait until 13's rumored steam release before we can see whether or not that would be feasible.

Yea I have been going on ggpo a bit more. It randomly seems to work better for now. Most of the time I am playing sfalpha 2 or 3 or vampire hunter tho.

They are only accepting registrations over their website using paypal or whatever and registration closes on friday night at midnight. Tournament this sunday. KOF13 looks to be starting at approx. 4pm price = 5 dollars for the game and 5 dollar venue fee.

Sunday's event had an awesome turnout!!! There was definitely tons of talent there and great potential for many to become stronger players.

On a side note, I wish the VSav tourney happened earlier, because I know despite the huge turnout that had, there was at least 3 or more players who could've entered if the tourney started sooner.
