I've seen that few people have mentioned Metal Slug around here, so I decided to start topic, because I didn't find one.
I ordered Metal Slug Anthology for PS2 and I hope all the games would be as good as Metal Slug 3 (I already have it). I liked the MM3 very much, but are the other games on Anthology as good or even better than 3?
And does the Anthology have Unlimited lives option? I read from one source that said that it hasn't, but on the source it said it has. Can someone confirm this fact?

I don't know its a personal choice to me, I enjoy all the series. There is an option for unlimited or limited lives. The amount of limited lives you get is depending on the difficulty you choose.

I'm still waiting for a Metal Slug with overhauled graphics, i'm not asking for HD stuff, just some new sprites/graphics.

Definintely MS. I can say I'm a little bias since I grew up playing this game, but most Metal Slug games are amazing because of their level design, creativity, comedy and the fact that I can replay it as soon as I've finished it, and I can't do that with every game.

I have a Metal Slug 6 machine in an arcade near me, and yet I've never been able to beat the game. I even cheat by picking Ralf :P

I was once visiting gospel music festival. I walked around the the place it was held and I saw Metal Slug 6 machine. I immediatly run to play. I put 2 euros to that machine. It didn't work and I put 2 euros more and tried again and it still didn't work. You can imagine how much I cursed.
Good that I later bought Anthology. Metal Slug 6 was first game I tried. And it became my favorite of whole series.

personally i think ms 1, x and 3 are the best. biggest gripe of the ms games ive got is that at the hardest level the bosses dont get harder in patterns, or in the amount of firepower they use. instead they need to get shot for what seems like an hour to kill just 1. even those damn trains in 2 and x, shooting them on the hardest difficulty took a long ass time. something im still not too fond of. maybe with a new engine they could just have you attacked by more enemies and have more bullets on screen instead of having bosses and such take forever to kill. this is something i also cant stand in games like god of war 3, the game doesnt get harder on the hardest difficulty, its just that all the enemies take forever to die and your moves and weapons dont seem that strong anymore.

I think people who choose Contra do so out of nostalgia. Contra basically started the Run 'n Gun genre, Super C streamlined that experience. Contra 3 and Contra Hardcorps take it that much farther, I prefer Hardcorps because of the alternate paths.
I prefer Metal Slug because of the art style, very satisfying weapons and Tank usage, overt humor, and the branching paths in Metal Slug 3. What a way for old SNK to go out with Metal Slug 3. Ending your run with probably the greatest Run 'n Gun game ever made. Metal Slug 5 is pretty good. The others should be avoided.

I don't know. First game has best soundtrack, 2 is good, but that slowdown issue, X is improvment and hard, 3 feels so damn long, 4 should be avoided, 5 has good soundtrack but meh, 6 is my favorite, 7 had limited lives, which annoyed me. Haven't played XX and that 3D game.

ms3 is pretty crappy imo, not as bad as 4 or 5, but still pretty crappy and way too long and some enemies dont die fast enough. bes ones are still 1 and x imo.

I never understood the criticism that MS3 was too long. I mean, people complain that a Run 'N Gun game is too short, but this one's too long? The final mission will take you about a half hour or so, but I thought it was epic. It had TONS of variety. More variety and imagination than any Run 'N Gun aside from maybe Gunstar Heroes.

3's my all time favorite too. Especially back when I had it on Xbox with limited lives. The day I beat that damn final stage was one of the most epic moments in gaming I've ever had. It may be long but its a non-stop adrenaline rollercoaster that never lets up.

i usually play on hadest, and ms games on hardest just kills it. its not even hard, just damn repetetive and takjes way too fucking long imo. back in the days i could finish ms1, 2/x and 3 in 1cc on hardest. and even then it took a long ass while, especially all those times when you run out of special weapon bullets (which will happen a lot on hardest). games are still fun though, its probably my favorite side scrolling shooter along with contra series.

Difference between 7 and XX are minor. There is only secret passages, different weapons and vehicles placement, unlimited continues, big weapon powerups, and a new rank called "Satan" in combat school.

Yea with multiplayer and exclusive playable character Leona Heidern. Playing it will be the same though except it has longer loading time than 7

Leona is really fun to use, I had yet to understand how to use moon slasher, it seems that used well you had great advantage
But my favorite thing in the game is pick clark and just do argentinas like mad

High score contest you say? Well my high score for Metal Slug(the first one) is a little over 1,900,000 points. If I remember correctly, the world record score is a couple thousand points over 2 million.

Did some research, and supposedly the world record for Metal Slug 1 is over 2,600,000. That means I'm 700,000 points short... I gotta lot of work to do...

Pretty much, I bought the Collector's edition or whatever it was that had Metal Slug 1-6 or whatever it was on a sheer whim for like 15 or so bucks used, it's always worked perfectly.
I thought it was cool that it looked like WORMS if anyone remembers that but I only saw screenshots of that in game magazines. Either way, it was an excellent decision.

That's a tough one. Metal Slug 2 and X where good. However my fav has to be Metal Slug 1 because that's the one I sank the most quarters into on an old Neo Geo MVS. Lots of nostalgic memories :)
I'm going to customize the art on my SFxT Pro stick with a Metal Slug theme. I don't like SFxT and the art is ugly so it's mod time!

3 probably was the best made version, but I can't help playing Metal Slug 1 on the MVS over and over. Trying to beat it on no continues of late.

I'm stuck between 3 and X.
If I had to decide, I'd say X because it doesn't have an extra-long level at the end like 3 does.

I completed metal slug one in 2 continues, so a pretty sloppy run but i somehow did well where it's more acceptable to fail.. haha. I got a score of 686282 wich yet again feels pretty decent. I think i'm gonna try to top that, it's really nice to play the game on the neogeo x when you don't have it plugged in to the tv. I still have the plastic film that protects the screen on though so it looks a bit weird.

Metal Slug is probably the game of my childhood. I must of spent hundreds of quarters when I first started playing it. Metal Slug 3 was my personal favorite. I also enjoyed Metal Slug X. As for the original, it is was fun and all but I always found it preety cheap how easily I would die in that game (yet again I was preety young when I played it). Marco 4 Life!

The first Metal Slug I played was the second one. I spent so much time(and quarters) trying to beat it as a child. Then I learned of the existence of Metal Slug X, a harder version of 2. It's so difficult that I still can't beat it without dying once.
Spending so much time and effort on X is probably why it's my favorite.

SNKP just release Metal Slug Defense to the iOS and Android. It plays similar to Tower Defense so if you are a fan of that then its worth checking it out. If not, its free ;)
