At least I do.
For me, musics are one of the main factors is the game good. They make the game more enjoyable. For example, I like Tekken 3, but to be honest, musics in it aren't that good.
I personally like jazzy themes. They tend so sound cool and relazing, but they really make you wanna fight (at least this works for me).
Also, which fighting game has the best soundtrack? My personal favorite is Fatal Fury Special's arranged soundtrack. I like every song in it.
-
Yeah, I like fighting game music but I just really pick out the best for me instead of staying in one genre or soundtrack. Sometimes, I also outgrow certain music. For example, I used to think Guilty Gear has one of the best soundtracks, but now, I really only like a certain handful. Holy Orders never really did stick to me and Writhe in Pain just became too repetitive.
While playing though, it takes time for me to notice the music unless things really got slow paced. Most of the time though, it doesn't matter, but I do sit, relax and just enjoy the music while not playing.
Currently, these are the songs I'm hooked up with:
1. KoF XIII Soundtrack (I have the whole soundtrack, so yeah)
2. Last Blade 1's Change (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5EPQIj9Kjc)
Not so much but it's mostly due to me being in a Pokémon feel lately.

I think the music is important because it helps set the mood. Once the fight starts though, i don't really think about it too much. I don't know if i have any one particular favorite amongst games i've played but since its arcade release i've been amazed by kof13 and the quality of the music in it. There are some songs that don't quite hit home for me, but then again, they aren't bad and add some variety. Some songs in kof13 makes me think of the music in the first metal slug game so it really brings in some nostalgia in a weird way aswell. Amongst fighting games i think that's the winner..

I care about it. I download the song I especially like.
-
Of course. Gaming has produced some of the best musical compilations in history, especially in fighting. Wouldn't even know where to start as far as naming a favorite because there are too many, but my latest favorites have been KoF 99 (keep coming back to this one), KOF XIII, some SSFIV tracks, Samurai Spirits IV, and MvC 3 (glad they have a per-character theme setup again). Give me the right song in a fight and my skill just automatically improves, as if the shit just got real because Tears, Esaka?, or KD-0079 is playing.
-
Yeah, i care about music, but it's not one of my main concerns about a fighting game.
Anyways my favourite (fighting game) music comes from the Guilty Gear/BlazBlue games, AKA anything from Daisuke Ishiwatari.
-
I care about music if it's great, but I can ignore it if it's poor. So it can make a game better, but not worse, in my opinion.
I don't really have a favorite music for a fighting game, personally. I'm too busy enjoying Megaman music.
-
I became a fan of SNK thanks to the music and shinkiro
At first I thought that KOF was bush league, so yeah, music is an important aspect for me
-
Music is pretty important to me, one of the main reasons I wasn't feeling SFIV at first and have a slight preference to A2 over 3 is due to the music.
The soundtracks that stick out the most to me as favorites are SF2I *2I Jazzy NYC, Crowded Street, and Tomboy are so mucb better than their 3S counterparts, 3S still is a fave of mine though*, 98UM, BB, and GG.
-
well Blue Mary's Blues is what made me fall in love with her in the first place so hell yeah i care about the music espcially cause its some of the best music to listen to when your out driving
-
Oh yeah, that's a given. It's a big part of the game's Aesthetic. If it sucks or just mindless Jpop it will definitely turn me off to it, whether or not the gameplay is good is another story.
-
i care about the complete package, graphics, animation, great bg's, awesome musical pieces. gameplay is still king though, but because of aesthetics i dont care at all fro 2k2, while i really enjoy 98 (same goes for the way 98 > 2k2 play).
when a game is great in gameplay but also in the rest of the aspects about it like the ones i mentioned, it truly becomed a classsis and really memmorable.
this is also why i cant play games like SS games past 4. not onlydid the add characters that sucked into the games, but they also added some fucked up gameplay aspects that dont make no fucking sense. some extra salt in the wound because the games look like mugen. i feel the same way about kofs from 2k0 to 2k3, even though theyre pretty decent games.

^This, along with "Tears" special arranged, Fatal Fury Special's "Let's go to Seoul" (Kim) and "Feared by 100 Southern Thailanders" (Joe) arranges.
-
Give me arranged version of "Blaze" from 2003, almost every song from XI or Geese ni Kissu from Fatal Fury and my skills should improve alot.
-
cham chams arranged theme is hot from SSII. i always loved fighting in her stage, same for wan fu.

I like Sieger's stage. Although he is tough when you're fighting against CPU...
-
Since we're going into musics that get you more into a fight, throw in Queen from XI, nearly any song from '99, NESTS or Original Zero theme from 01, and Kazuki, Galford, and Charlotte SS4 theme.
-
Man 99 had such an awesome soundtrack, especially Sadistic Eyes.
-
I have tons of soundtracks from different fighters. I think the Fatal Fury series has some of the best music, especially the arranged versions. I also love the themes in Street Fighter II, and the various arrangements from different versions (Sega Genesis ftw!). I like Guilty Gear's soundtrack as well, my favorite track would have to be Assassins.
I absolutely cannot stand the music in BlazBlue though. It's not memorable at all, besides Bang Bang Bang Bang, but even that gets old.
I think my most favorite track is Big Shot! from The King Of Fighters XI AST. Love it.

My favorite Yagami track, out of a list of several great ones too.

I appreciate a good ost for a game but mainly i care about the game
best theme ever in a fighting game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKc8gxBwuG0

When we talk about Guilty Gear X2's musics, I prefer Korean soundtrack more. Here's a few examples:

Korean GGXXX soundtrack is amazing. I love the Assassins theme in the that one as well.
-
I always liked Heavy Rocks Tracks (X1 AST) the best. X2 Japanese and Korean were awesome, but HRT is like the bar Daisuke Ishiwatari set for himself that he has yet to top. Themes like Still in the Dark, Fatal Duel, and especially No Mercy feel as iconic as Tears.
-
I like rock alot in OSTs, but I still gravitate to more hip hop stuff nowadays, something I feels missing in fighters nowadays. Man I miss tracks like Jazzy NYC, Bottoms Up, Leave Alone, 3S Character select, and You Blow you Mind.
-
I do care, the song must be good enough to not make me get sick of it. SF4 music had me sick after playing it for so many hrs, SSF4 kinda save it thank to characters specific music. It wasn't that bad hearing a different tune most of the time, except when you fought the same character 4 times in a row.
But yeah, SF4 was the first fight game that made me realize how bad music could make me hate a game. And KOF02UM is a game that made me realize how good music can make me return to play the game just to hear the awesome tunes.

agreed. and i gotta say, i had a really great sieger back in the days. but dare i say it? cpu level 8 sieger might just have been even better than me, especially as a later character (i did the flashier combos, cpu had that snk reaction). i played all the characters, but the cpu at level 8 did a better job with some of the characters than i did. jubei is another one (and i was good with him too), sometimes he could be such a bitch.
are there still games made this difficult? i dont believe there are.
also i hated 99 but always did lkike how it looked and sounbded (neo cd, go figure). most of the themes where good, especially tears. ioris themes from 96 and 97 top that of 99 imo, but 99's is great as well. i dont hink dude has any bad tunes at all.

World War III (Ikari Theme) in 99 was pretty epic, especially AST.

Ikari's best yet. Even the title is my favorite for that team.

i dont think LB 2 and especially 1 need to be memtioned.

LB music was much like SC music to me. Not memorable, but fit the setting and set the atmosphere tone really, reall well. Basically it served it's purpose and didn't stick out.

Hell yeaaah!!! They're what makes fighting games alive babyyy. Can't imagine playing fighting games without the funky/heavy background music. =)) HAHAHAH!
-
I keep my ears open, we'll say that.
-
Ha ha, while I am posting this, I am listening to Kim's theme from KOF XIII. Great track.
-
Shen woo's theme is my favorite in XIII! izsocatchyyy!
-
I think music is way more important to a FG than a lot of people give it credit for. Especially back in the pre-interwebs days of gaming. I hated MVC2's music to the point where I returned the game. Luckily SNK seems to have great music most of the time.
That being said King Lion's theme in NGBC is one of my favorite boss themes ever, it foreshadows his ferocity in an appropriate way. On the same vein Kim Jae Hoon's theme in Garou is similar in reflecting his character; it shows his gentle badassery.
-
Music definitely has to be good in a fighting game, just like any other. It's going to be something you will play for hours on end whether it be practice or vsing. You always need a good Ost to make a game stand out. It's also what makes certain characters memorable. For example Iori's atarashi no saxophone is his theme over the years he gets remixed iterations but for the most part its synonymous with him.
-
Music is always important. Remember how MVC2's Jazz soundtrack was ridiculed. It sets the mood and is absolutely essential? Where would we be without the Guile Theme? What about Yashiro's absolutely badass KOF98 theme? Or Billy Kane or Geese's theme?
-
Hell yeah!
They almost make 50% for some fights for me :D

Once again, I'll play necromancer. After all, this is thread that I started five years ago :)
Anyways, I decided to make YouTube playlist, where I gathered all my favorite tracks from KOF-series. I had to exclude some songs, that the playlist wouldn't be dominated by certain games, like 96 and 2000. I included main entries from the series, 94-XIII plus Neowave and 2002UM. I left the handheld games, Maximum Impact-series and possibly some KOF games I might not have heard of, because I haven't played those games.
Hardest part of making this list was every game before '98, because I haven't played those games, but I had listened the soundtracks of those. Finding good quality OST uploads of certain games like 97, 2000, 2001 and 2003 was also difficult, because AST's were most common.
Anyways, I hope enjoy and feel free tell your own favorites and disagree with some of my choices :)
