Hi everybody, I would like to thank Alex Valle, TL, and LevelUp for allowing SNKP, dreamcancel.com and me to host a KOF XIII side tournament.

What: The King of Fighters XIII
System: Taito Type X2 Ver.1.1 and we will have Jamma PS2 adapters so that you can bring your own PS2 sticks or we will provide sticks for you. Both players will be able to chose between a TE or a P360 MAS stick.
When: Saturday June 11
Time: 2:00pm (be there on time)
Format: 2/3 Double elimination, winner keeps same team but can change order. Loser can change team and order
Fees: If you wish to participate on this event only you'll only have to pay a $5 venue fee and a $10 tournament fee. If you already signed up for another of the main events you will only have to pay the $10 for the tournament fee.
Stream: TBA! Streaming from a Taito Type X2 is tricky so once LevelUp is able to test their equipment we'll be able to confirm this.
FYI: Main events will have priority, so if any of you is called to play on a main event we'll be happy to wait for you to complete your match as long as you let us before hand.
We will have support from SNKPlaymore and dreamcancel.com so expect bonus gifts for top placers and possibly for all participants.

That is correct, it will replace the June tournament and EVO will replace the July tournament, however we might have preparation event before EVO.

Again timing is not a good thing so I have to see because:
1. I will be just coming back from a 26 hour drive from Nevada (We own 255 acres of land and maybe by the end of tomorrow we will own THE EQUIVALENT OF A CITY..yes 640 acres of land I am NOT KIDDING in Lander County, Nevada, so that will be a total of 895 acres we own in the state of Nevada! EVO what? Again as I was saying before, in the future we will easily be able to build something that will RIVAL EVO FROM THE SNK STANDPOINT!)
2. I will for 100% certain be able to go to at least Anaheim California the month after...
I'm spending $1,500 on my colloquia 3x this year, so that's why I say bad timing...again how far is Anaheim from you guys (so I can weigh my options)?

Hola amigo de Brazil, yo creo que es mas facil si te escribo en español. Yo soy el organizador de el torneo y quiero que sepas que el evento no es de consola. No quiero empezar un rumor por que SNKP nos esta apoyando y a ellos no les gustan los rumores. Porfavor no hablemos de consola :). Me da gusto saver que en Brazil estan esperando KOF XIII y yo se que tienen muchos jugadores muy buenos.
Mi jugador favorito de Brazil es Bucheca :)

I am aware that just because SNK P. .. will support the event does not mean they will release the game for consoles, but if I say that the Brazilian players did not want that to happen is a lie ...... hahahahaha
but the news was posted to both the Brazilian players but also of the world, get more situated with what happens with KOF XIII and to know that the game is participating in high level tournaments, and we can not deny that it fills the eyes SNK P. ... (Which may help the consoles) ;)

I'm hoping for a lot is made by the level UP transmission of the stream of tournament KOF XIII and great players in large numbers to participate as No. 17, Mr. KOF .... among others I'm always watching.

If there is someone there to represent SNKP, let's hope that they are not as stiff as a robot like the last person who was interviewed last year. Oh, and some non cliche answers would be nice.

ReveLAtions is a few days after E3 so I'm hoping we'll already have some information regarding the release. Hopefully, the turnout is good and SNKP sees the passion of the KOF community.

If anyone from SNKP shows up, it will most likely be Shinya Morishita, the same guy who was at SoCal Regionals last year.
There is also no word on SNKP being at E3, or having any games present at E3 (at this time).

We have received confirmation that a very special guest will be coming to ReveLAtions and he goes by the name of Dark Geese!!!
We'll be setting up a special event for a few first to 10 sets either a day before Revelations or after.

We WILL have a 98um set up correct? I don't care if I need to provide the setup, but I cannot not have 98um played there. Though it would be 360.

We can confirm XIII will be there but that's all as I'll be helping out as staff I don't want ppl coming up complaining that "game Z, game Y or game X" is not being played, if it's there, then it's bonus. XIII is the main feature.

Giby and Kane said it pretty much. It's a challenge of it's own to get KOF XIII in this type of major tournaments now days and we must really make sure that we deliver the best show we can without losing focus.

I am going off the assumption that there may be one or two setups. If there are three or more, than I can understand focusing primarily on XIII. Otherwise, I would like to have one station on the side with an older KOF. Main thing I'm hoping for is to catch others' attention, which is why I will be very loud.

That's something else I am looking at, the SNKP representatives being there so it's a win-win probably either way just to meet them and them meet me officially.

Did you guys get the streaming plans confirmed and underway yet? Reason why I asked is because I'm thinking of planning the 2nd KOF98 GGPO FT10 session on the 11th, but it would be cool to watch the stream then play after its done.

The secret to success is wearing the Metal Slug Boxers on tournament day! Getting laid maybe a bad thing prior to a tourney due to the fact that you may tire yourself out faster. I think the perfect strategy for motivation to win is by making a deal to yourself telling the missus " NO SEX" for a month if you don't place LOL

I'm not Rambo, I'm not Arnold, and I'm not even Chuck Norris. There is only one escape from work and that is busting the Jerry Maguire "Who's with me Scene". I'll try my best to go to Revelations...if i am Free i will try and talk to Alex Valle and see if he can put me in Sf4 since the registration is closed already. Okay so the stream is gonna go down at 8-9pm on June 11? I'll make sure to try to get the stream up during the weekly session I'm at. They're all interested in KOF XIII (or so they say) but they all want a console release even though the arcade is a 5-10 minute walk.

It's a shame John won't have that much time to play all those games, but I dunno about the adjective "destroyed", but something tells me he'll take you in all of them except SvC and NGBC only because I have never seen him play those, he could very well take you in those as well. =)

Well I'm not gonna "call out" anyone, just want to play whoever wants to play, again mutual respect here for all I play, nothing like what some of you see "I have to deal with from others."
I am going to lead by example and show them how to RESPECTFULLY play against others.. (This is how I operate in Mexico and you see there is nothing like what I am seeing here in the USA, no one calls me out, or if they do its very respectful like "Lets play a FT10 or a money match" way different tone than some of the crap/drama I see here in the USA....)

Man, fighting game stream chats are the worst. It's like someone collected the the worst youtube commenters, the worst Xbox Live preteens, and bred the two groups together. In my experience, it's worse for multi-game tournaments, since then you also get the obnoxious "yur game sux lol" stuff. I really wish there was a way to close the chat, just to make it easier to ignore.
DarKaoZ: It was awesome your commercial made it into the stream (twice!). You really did an amazing job on it. Are you planning an Evo version for next month?
Kane: Stop calling King mediocre! :( Besides, you always mention that the whole cast can be competitive. Why so surprised when that statement turns out to be true? :P But major props to Balla for showing off how deadly she can be.
It's a shame about all those dropped combos. A lot of those matches will I'm guessing it might be because it was 1am, possibly combined with simple tournament nerves? Watching the Mr.KOF vs. Reynald FT10 on youtube yesterday, it was nuts how rarely they dropped combos. I can remember only two instances in over 15 matches? Well, at any rate, it looks like the Evo event is going to be even bigger than Revalations, so they'll both get chances for revenge. I'll be rooting for them! :)

I have to say, Balla's King was worth the wait tonight. He had such a deep grasp of her tools / using them properly in a KoF, it was quite a watch.
Never afraid to use that meter, to get results, too. I think he just showed the best example of how to use her properly that I've seen, since the game came out so many months ago.

This was the perfect way to start streaming KoF XIII however: Fan Made awesome trailer, unexpected characters dominating (King + That Vice! Landed EX DeSide off a Sweep, too? *drool*), top tier characters being shown as very beatable... nice work from all involved!

Yeah I know... but I wish people would love every fighter. I mean, I play almost every fighter that is out, I'm not the best player but I would say I'm at least mid level in each. But I can appreciate every game for what they are, heck I even enjoy DOA series in their own unique way. But sucks that people have to be so Bias on a genre that was recently though to be dead.

I never really thought of that, I just did the trailer because I wanted to have a trailer to hype KOFXIII announcement. But either Atlus and SKNP did one, dunno the reason, but I bet they are busy. So this came out off my own need to see a trailer and since I have experience in making Anime/Video Game Music Videos as a hobbie, I went ahead and did the trailer. That is one reason why the trailer syncs well with the music, I really tried to make is as a music video. I believe that a well synchronization between the music and video can make any trailer awesome.
Will I do a EVO2k11 trailer? Not sure, never really thought my video would get so much praise. I can't promise anything, but I will definitely try and do one. Sadly I can't do fancy 3D effects, my computer overheats a lot when rendering 3D and turns off, but at least I can do good transitions. lol
But yeah, it was so cool to see my trailer in a stream. I'm glad everybody enjoy it and could help out in something. ;)

Haha, maybe I shouldn't have used the word "mediocre", but I wanted to emphasize how she's not-top tier for the non-kof fans; most of you guys know how I feel about the balance of the game (good overall in a KOF sense). I guess I overdid the point, FYI I was a '98UM King user pretty much like how I was am a Chin XIII user so I want to like her--my bad =)
The dropped combos were...yeah uncharacteristic of them. I dunno what else to say since we all know how good they can be like how Rex Dart pointed out their FT10. Bala played well and deserves the win and we're all happy for him (I love Reynald and John but it's better for the community to have some new winners and it ups the game for everyone).
Too tired to write coherently but thanks for those who stayed up for the stream--yes we know how many times it got delayed but of course it's not in our hands and it was to be expected.
We're super excited of things to come in the coming weeks and months leading up to the console release and I hope you guys enjoyed the "announcements" about EVO, it was damn hard keeping my mouth shut about it for all these months. =)

That was an awesome top 4. Like Kane said, I'm a fan of Reynald and Mr. Kof but at the same time I'm really glad someone else won.
There was Raiden shenanigans and whatnot going on (K' was a non-issue this time) but overall King I think was the star of the show, such a strong showing. Bala was just excellent in his execution and offence.
Was a little bit disappointed in Mr. Kof going for Raiden/K, not so much b/c of tier whoring but because I usually see him do so much better with characters like Robert and Terry. During the last match against Bala he even hovered over Robert so I figured finally but it didn't happen.
Great job overall guys, excellent commentary and matches and a great announcement to go with them. I don't think we could have asked for more.

Woa! Those Balla's King and Vice were the REVELATIONS! no doubt :D pretty happy to see some of my favourite characters winning tournaments. I think Balla really deserved to win, even MrKOF is still a very good player.
Great to hear that announcement! Thanks to all DC stuff to make it possible. You guys are working hard for KOF XIII, is exciting see your passion with that game.

Nice work to Kane and The Answer on bring a great event and getting stream time. It was annoying that it was delayed and only showed top 4, but were great matches and interesting to see someone new win it.

Great showing, even with the uncharacteristic dropped combos going on. I had been hyped up to see XIII earlier in the night, but it ended up kind of working out that it got delayed (was out of town for a AH3 gathering, where we actually ended up running a lot of 2002UM and lamenting that the stream was showing MvC3, but by the time I got home and took a shower and was just about to go to sleep, I happened to give the stream one last check and tuned in on match 2 of winner's finals...of course, had to stay up and watch the whole thing at that point ;) ). Definitely a very strong performance by Bala, showing how beastly Vice and especially King can be. Not that the other guys didn't have their moments as well (Raul's demolition of Raiden in his first match against Bala was great and seemed to get some pretty loud cheers from the crowd), but Bala deservedly stole the show.
Also, the EVO announcement is awesome! Really looking forward to that happening already.

Personally, I think they were just off. If per se, Bala figured out Reynald's Chin, or Reynald's Yuri during casuals and then used that information against them in the tourney; that would be one thing (and Mr KOF doesn't really have specific characters that he's particularly good at--he's just good with everyone). However, I think Reynald and John just played not as well as they normally do but more importantly, Bala was the better player all day long IMO. Don't forget it's not the first time they've played each other in (smaller tourneys) and in casuals.

Oh yeah hopefully we will get some casuals in the older games today, me and John got to play in KOFXI and SvC Chaos but only KOFXI was recorded so today we hope we can play a little more.
John still has it without question he won 10-4/5 in KOFXI and I think the same in SvC Chaos. I wanna play him again and get it recorded so everyone can see! We didnt get to play 98UM or 2002 UM...
I think he and Kula are the same level about in KOFXI, now I haven't seen Armando play KOFXI yet, but we hope that happens today he wants to play me today.
Also me and Oscar got some good matches in Chaos we will run back and get recorded he's got a nice Tabasa lol.

I want to publicly thank DG, Giby, nilcam and of course The Answer himself for making this event possible.
Most ppl don't know how much time, effort and money The Answer had to spend in order to get the joysticks working and still we couldn't get everything to work. We had 3 Japanese sticks prepared (which all needed to be modded to work with the setup) and 1 stick started crapping out 1 day before the tourney (it worked the week before at The Answer's place) but we had no choice but to continue to use it. The "spare" stick didn't work at all, and only one Japanese stick that worked perfectly. The spare stick would literally reset the game if plugged in and throw a coin error code; we used it as the "reset" stick lol (came quite in handy actually).
Right before the actually stream finals, as everyone was waiting to be called up, our only good Japanese stick left stops responding; we had 30mins to fix it and it was like 11:00pm already lol.
Finally, the inevitable stream delays. We had to move the setup to the big stage and just wait there like the rest of you guys. Meanwhile, all the top4 players were just sitting around (mind you we've all been up for about 12 hours by now) wasting valuable practice time.
It was however, all worth it. It's was a pretty exciting tournament as it was but this tournament can really be viewed as a milestone to KOF being a mainstream game in US. It was the first official, "real" stream (SCR's webcam doesn't count), tons of ppl were interested and coupled with the announcements of Atlus as a publisher, EVO around the corner with DUNE himself (ARE YOU KIDDING ME?)--there has been no better time to be a kof fan guys.
Dune may not be known for the best KOF player around, but he's, unquestionably, the most influential Japanese player in the scene.
The whole kof landscape is shifting ladies and gents and one can't avoid the hype and excitement in the air. Sit tight, and let's show the rest of the fighting game scene what we already know; KOF is the best game out there =)

Great props to all you guys for making this happen, I really am impress by how The Answer managed to pull it out. Great stuff!
In cases like this I wish KOFXIII would had been leaked already. But would that make the setup easier to pull out? I mean, you can use any PS3/360 sticks on a PC and it would work out. But IIRC, there is a small lag from the game and the controls. It was like that with BBCS.

I watched the archives, big props to The Answer, Kane317 and others running the tournament, it looked like a lot of fun. Hopefully this will be a start towards something big and fruitful for the SNK community here in the USA as a whole.
Too bad the stream got delayed, I was waiting, and waiting, then I feel asleep. ;p

Great job to everyone involved, especially the players for putting on a great show. It was great meeting some of the NorCal people. This show is just a taste of whats to come at Evo.

Im still in Cali I just wanted to let people know it's okay no biggie that I didn't get to play people in the older games much at all, it will happen in the future.
It certainly won't be the last time I will be in SoCal as I will probably be coming here as often as I do Mexico so I can get practice in KOF13, play against Armando and all of that.
To those that ask why we couldnt get to play the older games, we simply did not have enough time...
So next time I'm sure we'll make sure we get enough time to play those games, because we surely didn't want to take the thunder away from KOF13..as it deserves it from what I have seen.
Hopefully I can make it to EVO, but a few "recent setbacks" now have me stressed out a little bit as I have to prepare for Mexico vs. Peru so I dunno my status as of now.
Either way good to meet everyone (Romance again, Yoshi, Chris, Kim, Raul, Armando, etc) glad I could help be a part of this, thanks to Mr. KOF and Oscar for the hospitality, good playing the little games we did play Oscar (Geese vs. Tabasa matches were hype but am I the "best Geese in the West?" LOL), RJ (Nice playing in KOFXI!) and John (we gotta run back KOFXI and Chaos and play the others!) in SvC Chaos and KOFXI...
NorCal people nice meeting you I'm sure we will get to play in the future I will let you all know next time I'm in Cali it will be sooner than you think...
On another note, one thing that bothers me and bothered the SoCal players a bit is all the racist and UNEDUCATED derogatory remarks on the chats.
Now I know the SoCal players understand my POV, you have all these people commenting on something when they simply do not have all the facts and not giving respect where respect is due, for both Reynald AND Mr. KOF though they lost the tournament, they are both still great players, but you still have "Stream Monsters" talking derogatorily about them both as IF they could do better themselves (Hindsight 20/20 anyone?).
Let me tell you guys something, YOU WON'T. I do not think you could beat ME on a PAD in KOF13 and I played the game ONCE for the FIRST TIME on A STICK.
It's this type of stuff that needs to stop, that's what is really DIVIDING THE COMMUNITY.
If you are as good as you believe in your mind you won't hide behind a monitor, you will come back up your talk.
In regards to the commentating, I don't like to do commentating at all because truth of the matter is that it is pretty much a thankless job. So I have nothing but respect for those that do do it, but I will never do it for this simple reason.
Everyone is going to have their suggestions for improvement about commentating but people need to remember that these people (Oscar, Kane317) are doing this for free so remember to keep the criticism constructive and thank them for their efforts!

I've said it before these people don't matter in the big scheme of things, and that's not being elitist but it's the truth. Until you actually go see how hard it is to win in a tournament where there are quite a few good players, many people I feel should hold their tongue and be a little more respectful. And this goes for everyone really, if you do this on a youtube video (mine or whatever), unless you truly feel you can do better than the people on the video (yes even me), you should be a little more respectful...
Because if you call us out, we will not back down.
But other than that trust me I'm not mad at all, I just know now the SoCal people see the stuff I have to deal with all the time lol. I'm here with Mr. KOF now and he was like "Yeah they don't mean anything it doesn't matter."

I didn't know people were complaining about commentary, but then, the first thing I do whenever tuning in to a stream is get rid of the chat. Doing commentary is not nearly as easy as a lot of a people think it is, and you two did a solid job of it. For that matter, considering all of the challenges you guys must have faced (even being able to do a tournament at all without a console release [seriously, how many other communities would be willing to bring an arcade board to a tournament venue...KOF fans are nuts ;) *laughs* ], setting up the stream, working around all of the delays from other games, having controllers that the players would all be comfortable with that could work with the board set-up, making sure people were clear on the rules, etc.), it was really an incredible job overall. Don't pay any attention to people talking out of their asses. It was a great show, and you guys should be proud of the end result :)

IMO, there's just no reason to make ANY type of video like that despite whoever wins. That type of disrespect on the Hummer video makes me real sick, and I'm not even Japanese. I was still very impressed with all that went down with this tournament. I understand there were setbacks and soforth, but alot of those cats, especially those on the chat, don't really understand all the intricacies of doing something that major.
The commentary was straight. I liked how things were getting broken down so that you can have an idea as to what this player might be trying to do, or what opportunities were missed. The matches are fast, so trying to put out all that info is alot. Couple that with it being very late, and I'm pretty sure the hype led to some nervousness, especially since everyone wanted to put on a good show, which I felt was more important.
I'm definitely glad the K'/Raiden stigma was shutdown live and in HD!!! I'm tired of cats tripping off of that, but then again that doesn't mean that those characters are strong-- they're still beatable though...
Whatever with those stream cats talking smack... This stuff goes down in every type of community, beit MMORPG PvP, Fighting, or FPS. I'm pretty sure if a shuffle board tournament was being streamed, someone would hate... So whatever with all of that hoo-rah...
I'm surprised nobody jumped on KOF thinking they could get easy money by tier whoring. I'm not hating, I'm just saying, because I've witnessed that in other tourneys in the past...
Now let's get that fan-made KOF vid put on National TV, and build that hype, and squash the beef!!! Dudes have been waiting on this console release, and with the success of this tournament, I'm sure a bunch of cats will be trying to show up to more KOF venues, even those heads who dropped the game for other fighters...

That type of unprofessionalism and frankly downright immaturity, is why it's going to be that much harder for anyone to respect a community that promotes such ridicule. The guy flew in all the way to Mexico and that's the type of impression you want him to leave with?

Yeah we were talking about that even the guy that made the Hummer Video me and him have been talking about that. I have also since been talking to both Armando and Kula about this current thing so I want to make sure this type of stuff doesn't happen again.

i just wanna stress out 1 point, the reason peole in Mexico have better manners probably has to do with if you shit talk the wrong guy and you might get fucked. hence the mutual respect. next time somebody ain't got the proper etiquette put your skimask on and curbstomp the motherfucker later. people might actually learn some manners this way. you know i kid, but its still the truth probably.
