Title: Forum Skins update
Post by: nilcam on May 11, 2011, 02:10:44 AM
Managing 3 forum skins has become a hassle so I've decided to reduce the number of skins available. In a few days I'll delete the Classic theme in favor of the new and improved Core theme. I've reworked the Core theme to fit in better with the look of the site and added full navigation to the theme. I also worked to improve the contrast and readability of the Core theme. In the next few days, I plan to work on the Dark theme to match the functionality of the Core theme.

Hope you like the new look!

Update: I've created a new dark theme which is a variation on the default theme. This will allow me to keep both skins up-to-date easily and provides a more unified look to the forum. Please leave any feedback in this thread.

Thanks, Rex! The knowledge I've amassed since launching Dream Cancel has been very helpful.

Best forum format this site has had yet. Hope this works out for a good while. Great job Nilcam.

Thanks! These skins will be here for a long time. It took a lot of work to get these modded to the point of being happy with them. I worked for about a day-and-a-half for the light one and then about 45 minutes modifying the files for the dark version.

I'm using the Core one, which is really cool.

Have you tried downloading some themes for the forum?

I found this site which has several: http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/

Dunno if that helps for something.

Thanks for the link. The old themes were from that site. The Core family is much easier to use.

Dark theme is sick, think you could edit in a picture of K' on the dreamcancel bar?

I've tried putting characters up there but, since it's a gif, any sort of clipping or softening I do looks very jagged.

Update: Added K' for the Dark and Kyo for the Core themes. I used sprite-based artwork so the jaggies are a bit more hidden. Let me know what you think!

I like how Kyo looks in the Core theme. But what bothers me a bit is how the Dark Theme still has the bars in light Grey. Is the first time I looked at it, I was expecting the bars of the theme to be from Black to Grey or Dark Grey to Grey.

But well that is the only thing that stroke me awkward, but as long as people like it there shouldn't be a problem.

I have a very important concern:  What if you put Chin on the Core theme (I'm a darktheme user) and I never find out about it?  The world would inplode instantly.  =(

I guess you'll have to check the light theme every 20 minutes just in case.

Just kidding... I won't change the characters on the forum headers.
