Title: Smartphone app
Post by: nilcam on May 17, 2011, 06:09:56 AM
I've put a lot of thought into creating a smartphone app lately. I've found a way to create 1 app that is compatible both with Android and iPhone. The app would provide access to the homepage stories and Facebook and YouTube pages.

Let your voices be heard. If you're interested, please vote in the poll.

Here's the link to the trial version: http://www.widgetbox.com/mobile/app/dreamcancel

I was all excited over this last night until I realized it's $25 a month and is basically a mobile site. It's still a possibility but I kind of want a legit app. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I've looked into Appsgeyser but it seems too limited. I'm checking out Sencha touch next.

Edit: Sencha is beyond me. It's basically a programming language. Widgetbox regains the lead!

Please let me know if you use iPhone, Android or other.

I like the idea so far.  As for the youtube feature, do you think you can organize the videos by game and series of videos, like the 02UM Master Tutorials?  That would help it make look less cluttered, since you guys upload videos for many games.

I've run into some issues building this app. Widgetbox creates an iPhone app but Android users just get a shortcut to a mobile site. iSites is the opposite. $25 to build a mobile site for me? Eff that, son.

I've built a mobile site. Go to dreamcancel.com on any smartphone and you'll get to it. So far, you can check out the homepage and 10 most recent YouTube uploads. I'm working on Facebook integration. If you have an Android phone running 2.1 or higher, get to scanning:

Personally, I'd like to see some sort of KoF XIII App kinda like the SSFIV: AE Mook for Android. At the very least, mobile access to the wiki would be nice as often times I find when I'm out playing somewhere or even at home, my screens are being used for gaming so its a bother to pull up a web page if you wanna go over combos or look something up real quick. So being able to go "Hey lets check if this can combo" and going to, say, the "KoF XIII App" would be quite beneficial. At the very least, wiki access on the mobile site would be good but I only have wifi on my Android tablet so it would be cool to have an app I could use if say, I'm not in a wifi area.

I'm working on adding the wiki to the site but it takes about 30 minutes per character. I've been able to add 4 characters this week.
