Hey Desmond, you left out our match on the scores... I should have 6 wins, not 5.

Emil, I think character ignorance is going to play a part in people's struggles for a while.

Can you specify what region in the US you're from? Your steam profile doesn't say.

His intro post on DC says he's in Florida.

Thanks, solid. Updated.

General Discussion / Re: Best beginner team theory?

KIM. Great footsies and confirms, nearly brainless st.D that's + on block and invulnerable to lows, can't be crossed up on wakeup because of charge Hienzan (still can be safe jumped), gets hard knockdowns all over the place so he can safejump and crossup for days, practically instant overheads with air Hangetsuzans... this character has all the tools to win and be a dominant force while teaching you fundamentals at the same time.

Top tiers when played at the highest level: Benimaru and EX Iori because of their infinites. If you can get lightning loops down with Beni you will wreck people. Iori's are a lot harder to do, only a handful of people can do them in a competitive setting but it's very busted and seems like it won't be patched out, so if you can abuse it, go for it.

When I started playing KOF I tried to find characters with good 2-3 hit hitconfirms off lows and standings. Once you get more comfortable with hitconfirms you can try others with shorter confirms. Every character has some dirty tech that you'll have to discover to make the most of them.

Any character in this game can win but some have less tools to work with. Common competitive picks: Kim, EX Iori, Benimaru, Kyo/EX Kyo, Takuma, Chin, King, Mr. Karate, Hwa Jai, Duo Lon, Shen and Yuri. Others are seen but these guys in particular are almost always part of top 8s. Characters you rarely see competitively: Raiden, Kula, Mai, Ralf, Elizabeth, Maxima, Kensou and Robert. These guys are still beasts though, don't be afraid to try them out if you like them.

Started out with Kim/Claw/Kula, dropped Kim when I transitioned from pad to stick (couldn't get f,f+A properly) and switched him with Saiki. Nowadays I mostly play Athena/Raiden/Kula, sometimes with Mature instead of Raiden. I still really like Claw and Saiki, but I felt like I had too many bad matchups with them. I either did really well with Claw or really bad, there didn't seem to be a middle ground of consistency despite all the tricks and nastiness I learned with him. He's still capable, but he brings out that "oh god, this matchup" feeling in me that messes with my head too much. Saiki has a little bit of that for me too, but not as bad as Claw. I'm just not as confident with him as I should be considering how long I've been playing him. Sadly, I think I was better with Mature in 1 week than I was after 2 years with Claw. I don't get that "matchup anxiety" with her. It's my own failings, but whatever, broadening the horizons of who I play is a good thing.

Athena has definitely been my ace in the hole. She has so much dirtiness to her it's just amazing. I'm sure most of you saw Romance's NEC performance with her. Definitely recommend trying her out if you haven't.

Iori Yagami (Claw) / Re: Iori wiki building thread
September 25, 2013, 11:00:13 PM
Updated Iori's wiki to include some of the piss-easy 2-3 meter HDs that weren't included. Sorry about that, not sure why I forgot it.

Kula Diamond / Re: Kula wiki building thread
September 25, 2013, 10:57:28 PM
Updated Kula's wiki a bit, added more frametraps, a stun combo, a 4 meter 96% and a 5 meter 100%.  Will probably be refining some of the existing combos in the next week. If anyone has anything to add, correct, etc., please don't hesitate to post.

Here's a good (albeit hard) one for Athena:

Corner only, 1 stock, 0 drive, 513 damage:
j.C, cl.C, qcb+A, st.C, f+B, qcb+BD, u,f+B (has to be a hop), qcb+D, dp+C

Thread has been updated to include a list of people by region.  If you submitted info and your name isn't on the list, it's probably because you didn't include your Steam ID link and your name is too ambiguous to pinpoint in the friend search. If there's any incorrect info or you want your name removed, send me a PM and I'll fix it.

I'll try to keep this thread regularly updated.

god im getting beat hard im really not used to playing this game with people still

I know the feeling! My old Xbox crew are at all time high levels of beast mode. Will take a long time to catch up, but regardless of winning or losing, it's always infectiously fun. In fact I think I have more fun when losing because it motivates me to improve and try new things. The new netcode opens up a lot of possibilities for on-reaction play, something I was never strong at. Time to put our noses to the grindstone. :)

Just want to remind people to please link their Steam profile page instead of just giving a username.  If multiple people on Steam use your name or a variation of it, it's almost impossible to add to right person.

Spliph, they leave because they don't want to get bodied. :P

I think there's some matchmaking bugs with v7. Sometimes people can't see rooms which sucks since it's the weekend and there won't be any patches (I think).

The bar indicators do seem inaccurate and generally just a poor way of displaying connectivity. Seems like 100-120ms pings have a chance of displaying as 1-2 bars, but sometimes they're very playable in an almost mysterious way... and then sometimes not. You could also ping 50ms to someone but have a terrible match due to packet loss, spikes and other things that don't display clearly with the bar indicators.

tl;dr bars suck, wish console developers wouldn't keep them in PC games.

Played my first 3 bar match on the beta today.  Guy was in New York with average ping of 59ms. It felt really, really good. Barely any discernable input lag. I'm impressed!

As for the KOF moba... Tizoc's ulti looks soooooo cool. ;)
