Duo Lon / Re: Duo Lon (Console)
January 14, 2012, 02:10:12 AM
Does anyone know if c.B, c.B, c.A xx qcf+P, qcf+P, EX qcf+P, qcf+P, qcb+A, c.A, qcf+P, qcf+P, qcf+P, (qcb~hcf+P) OR (qcf+B, s.C xx whatever) works?

The post above got me thinking about difficulty with rekkas. I can do Duo Lon's BnBs and stuff DC'd into f+A+C, but the rekkas into EX rekkas into qcb+A has been impossible for me to link. I keep dropping it at the qcb+A.

Can anyone attest to this being possible? I works so well in my mind...

Practical corner combo I cooked up:

(Corner) j.CD (counter hit), qcf+C~f,f, qcf+A*, dp+A DC air hcf+B, qcf+A, qcf~hcb+A(+C)

560 for the level one. 650 if you EX the final super. I often get counterhit j.CD against opponents eager to get out of the corner.

* = If you don't want to get qcf+C~f,f, f~hcf+P (which you will get, and which will not juggle) you need to delay slightly between the dash cancel and the qcf+A. That's what worked for me, anyway. This combo really punishes opponents trying to stick out moves or jump out of the corner.

Oh, was also experimenting with resets into EX qcf+P. The only way to combo after this crushes guard is to spend 50% Dream and Super Cancel it into qcf~hcb+P. You could do other supers, but this is the best damage. Remember: you can only DC a special on a hit, which the guard crush does not count as (though it does do 16 damage which I assume is chip). I've got a few resets down, but they're not very meter efficient (2 stocks and 50% DC), and I will probably use them more to troll/style on people than actually boost damage.

Man ppl really hate Leona lol.
I have to admit, I was playing her when I first took up this game, but I soon left for other characters. That was before I'd seen any contention about her tier placement. My decision was more based on ease of hit confirms (though there may have been a correlation there between my difficulty with that and just being new to the game period), and start-up time of specials. d,u+P is obviously an excellent move, but qcb+K is very difficult, if not impossible to use against an opponent with good reactions. I find it only catches people who don't really know the move. Even b,f+A seems relatively slow to come out. It stays out forever, yes, but it controls a very limited amount of space and has a large start up time.

I don't know if I'd definitively put her on the bottom, but I will say that she felt she was lacking tools where other characters felt much more intuitive.

^sure. A pity that his j.B is no longer cancellable into f.B. Was great for continuing pressure for more rekkas..
Wait, what? Yes it is o.O.

Quote from: LouisCipher on January 12, 2012, 05:10:58 AMLinking the C SRK Break into Back Dash Tatsu into whatever is HARD. Holy shit.
Why would you want to do this? You can do dp+C~A+B, TK Tatsu. No need to back dash. Just input the Tatsu as 412369+B and it will connect every time. The window is tight, but I got it down in about five minutes. Make sure you really hit the u/f corner on the input before hitting B, otherwise you'll get standing Bs all day. It even feels like you can somewhat buffer this.

Quote from: LouisCipher on January 12, 2012, 05:10:58 AMEX Fireball seems pretty worthless. Hits only midscreen and SLOW as hell.
It's an automatic Guard Crush on block though, I think that's the true use. Even as I say this, I'm imagining reset situations where you time it so they either have to eat the move, or take the guard crush into an even bigger combo.

Quote from: LouisCipher on January 12, 2012, 05:10:58 AMIs it practical to combo into the Hundred Hand Slaps/Zanretuken? It's HARD to DC after it and with damage scaling it doesn't seem worth it.
I don't know about the damage scaling, but rather than DC it, you can link a dp+A in the corner. Midscreen I'm not convinced of the uses.

I was under the impression that teleporting after blocked rekkas was at least throw punishable. Actually, it was a post I read on command grab punishes. I need to test it more myself, but it stated that 1f command throws were able to punish qcf+B after blocked rekkas. Clark/Beni/Daimon/Vice are all in this category, and are probable encounters on point. Metagame considerations, and I don't have to use the CD cross up setups on them, but it does merit concern.

The CD whiff into Rekka cross-up is a really unsafe mixup for not much reward, though. I'd prefer something that gives me a much safer option select. Straight up, I've played a lot of King, and I find her to much safer and more solid all around. That being said, her play style is a little boring to me.

I'm curious to know what this thread thinks of Duo Lon. I've been having some success with the character so far, but I can see limitations in his damage output and real mix up options. Teleport crossups and resets can work against beginner to intermediate players, but I sense that he just isn't tricky enough to really open up advanced players with solid fundamental defenses. He seems like a lot of work for not quite enough damage. I'm not saying I'm going to let perceived tiers define who I play, but I am making an effort to become a serious contender in this game and have my sights set on taking some local tournaments in the near future. Does Duo Lon pay off in the long run, or is one of those characters where it's too much work for not enough reward?

Solid information t3h mAsTarOth, thanks for posting. Check your PMs.

Edit: Can you explain what you meant by "option selecting" DCs? Is it just that, on block, the DC won't come out because they only work in the event of a hit, and that the string is otherwise relatively safe?

Yeah, the sky isn't falling after all. Just downloaded him. I'm not used to waiting for PSN updates, so I just expected it to unlock at midnight like with Steam :P.

Is it just me or is he not available on the North American PSN yet? I woke up this morning all excited that he'd been released, went to download him, but there's no sign of him in the store :(.

Meet & Greet / Re: Toronto KoF player.

Nah Duo Lon is the Masta Killah, and Mr. Karate will be the Ghostface Killah (once he's released, because he keeps his face concealed). Then I add him to my team and take King out so I'll have Masta, Ghostface, and ODB (RIP).

I figure Chin is the ODB of this game, so you know he had to be on my team!

Now, off to exposing unprotected necks.

Meet & Greet / Toronto KoF player.

I'm a long time FG player, been attending local and national tournaments since about 2002 for various games. Nothing in the 2D realm has really held my interest lately, but KoF is looking like it really stepped up to the plate.

I was the A&C tournament yesterday (the 8th). If anyone was there, I was in the orange hoodie/scarf and played Duo Lon/Chin/King. Anyhow, looking forward to meeting more local players and getting gatherings in since online is terrible.

I found some good info here already. The Chin guides were really in depth which is great, since he obviously takes a lot of work, but I'm dedicated!
