Mai Shiranui / Re: Mai Shiranui

Mai has always been most effective as a footsie character, so I don't really think that busting out crazy big combos would be worth it for her.  She can do some damaging stuff sure, but the meter she would use would be better spent by a Kyo or a Liz.  More bang for your buck.

Anywho, I share Diavie's sentiment.  sD, chain combo, cC, A Ryu Enbu, and air throws all day, erryday.

moves inspired by Gordan Bombay, he should be in the win quotes  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WZ0uRJOatQ

Either that, or she should have a Mighty Duck jersey alt.

SNK Games / Re: Breakers Revenge

WOW.  I thought people forgot about this game.  Played it for the first time in a long time the other day and got run over by the nostalgia truck.  Rila was always my homegirl.  Once I get GGPO up and running I'm so gonna take you up on that offer, Running Wild!

After taking a rather lengthy break from KOF, I recently came back into the series with OG 98, my favorite KOF game.  Are there any plans to create a wiki page for OG?

Evo staff wants numbers.  No one who runs a tournament will host a game that doesn't have numbers to back it. Like I said in the GD thread,  it doesn't matter how many people WANT KOF at Evo.  What matters is how many people are going to show up.    KOF players need to be at Evo, not signing their names saying they want it at Evo.

This.

Offline Matchmaking / Boston KOF
November 10, 2010, 12:00:25 AM
Don't know what happened to the old thread, but yeah.

Anybody here from Boston?

---

Sorry for the double post, but I just thought I'd spread the word.  There's a bar down by the aquarium called Goodbar Boston that has fight nights every Wednesday 8 - midnight and Sunday 3:30 - midnight.  I'm usually there on Sundays and I bring KOF with me, so you should come on out!  I can't be the only KOF player in the city haha.

---

Ok, triple post haha.  There's a new place called Ultimate Game Spot out in Dedham where I and a couple of other KOF players meet to get some games in.  We mostly play OG 98, but we also get in some 98UM and 2k2UM as well.  That'll change when XIII drops though, as a number of people there are planning to pick it up.  UGS is located at the Metro PCS store on the Provience Highway in Dedham from 6 - midnight on Saturdays.  You should come out!

I was wondering which other version of KOF would be good to practice with Kyo so I can get a bit more fimiliar to his XIII build.

Looknig for Mai and Terry as well.

Anything with Kyo's 95 moveset.  Kusanagi in 2k2UM would be closest, but Kyo in XII or EX Kyo in 98/UM would also be good places to start.

Kinda makes it hard to take SNKP seriously when they say XIII's netcode will "kick ass."  So far, they're 0 for 2 on KOF games having good netcode.

Got my ethernet cable today, and the online matches were still pretty terrible.  Kind of disappointing.

A list like that would be very hard to compile seeing as it changes from game to game.  Also, there are some characters who are extremely versatile and can be effective in any position, so they don't really fit in any particular category.

The only DCer I got to fight was sibarraz, but I also played about 5 other matches.  All of them had a decent amount of input lag on my end, but it wasn't unplayable.  Better netcode than 98UM for sure.  I'm pretty sure that my lag comes from the fact that I'm using a wifi adapter instead of an ethernet cable, so I'm gonna buy one and see how much smoother the games are compared to wifi.

The lowest ping I got was 88, but I never actually played that match.  The guy kept booting me out of the game whenever I tried to pick Ryo.  Don't know what was up with that.

Also, gg sibarraz.

Wow Vanilla.  We have so many characters in common it's scary haha.

I'd love to go, but my schedule is pretty much always up in the air due to work (freelancing lol).  Schedule permitting, I'll be there.

She can also cancel into it off of a hh A, B, or D.  The timing is kind of tricky, but being able to do it consistently is essential.  The timing for Leona's cancels and combos is harder than most characters (at least in 98.  Not sure about 2k2), so she's probably not the best choice for a beginner, but stick with her anyway.  If you get a feel for her, then other characters should be a walk in the park for the most part IMO.

Some players put their best character as their anchor, but this isn't necessarily the best way to go.  Like Remxi said, consider meter usage.  As a Leona player, I've found that she has a harder time building meter on her own than most of the rest of the cast.  Considering that she's a somewhat meter-dependent character, placing her 2nd or 3rd would be best.  With Leona, it's all about the V-Slasher, so you should do whatever you have to to make sure she has at least one ready to go.
