Training Room / Re: trying to get better at KOF.
« on: October 03, 2010, 06:38:21 AM »
start here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r75Lz1Drp8g the movement options still apply, and it's good to generally know.

rolling is very punishable. they're vulnerable to throws. bait an opponent's roll out of the corner and throw them back in. after a few tries, they'll learn to respect the pressure and either sit in the corner or guard CD you. be more patient with your corner pressure.

you don't have to worry about command throws as much in this game. most of the time, you'll only get caught if it's comboed or from an empty jump-in. be careful of not hitting your jump-ins deep, it's somewhat akin to getting SPD'd out of blockstun (since you're familiar with SF)

as for character specific stuff, you should probably ask questions to the people who play those characters or do a bit of research, even though the character threads are pretty bare at the moment.

and that's as much as help i can offer. i'm pretty new to the game myself. i think we're all learning at this point still.

GGs to those i played last night, even though i got stomped on for the latter half. though there was an asian guy who was giving me a mad face every match we played. i think i'm going to retire my scrubby goro. i'm only useful with him against people who are terrible with footsies (how people almost got OCV'd by me basically doing s.D, i can't understand). i'm gonna try to stick with learning vice. i think shes a fun character. a lot different than her previous incarnations (i wish she had her qcb+K). after watching some good players last night, i feel like picking up king. i'm honestly surprised though that i don't see a lot of duolon. it was mostly k', andy, robert yesterday.

General Discussion / Re: The King of Fighters XIII Video Thread

I just want to know what happened to Terry.  Dude looked like he had potential.  I know there are some good Terry's that don't make it to video though.

he still looks pretty solid, i think. it's just that he's a pretty straightforward character and i don't think he has any tricks or something gimmicky going for him. that's just my opinion on really limited knowledge though.

dude those are supposed to be the first things you check out when playing a fighter, you gotta know the system man.

not sure if you were referring to my questions but...

A) would it surprise you that maybe some people don't have a lot of experience with XIII? i played it for the first time a week ago.

B) sure, the first two i could have probably tested myself, but the last question is really situational (e.g. might only be applicable to leona) and is a really nitpicky thing about the system. it's something that most people wouldn't know offhand and would require testing. it would be helpful to know the answer for that matchup in case it ever happened (even though i think elizabeth could probably omit the reset and DM juggle you anyway).

C) in most of the character threads so far, most of the notes regarding movelists are still lacking details and properties. this is fine, considering the game is still fairly new and people are still testing stuff, but i figure that this is the point of these character threads: to compile notes and information about the characters for those who want to learn new/more characters but don't really know much. sure, movelists are there, but we all know it takes more than moveset memorization to successfully play a character. if thats all we needed, the forums would be unnecessary and we'd just download the PDF movelist or look at the master guide.

case in point, and i didn't mean to rant so much in a character thread, this is a forum. questions are meant to be asked. this community is fairly new, and being constructive by gathering information for people who come to the boards is rather helpful compared to making arbitrary remarks. at the very least, if you know the system, you should oblige us with answers.

a few questions:

- does KOFXIII still have that counterhit staggering property that was in KOFXII? i remember leona's f+C (now far C) was great because of its range, and if it counterhit, you could just run up and do whatever you wanted since the stagger lasted so long.

- does anyone know the property difference between the B and D versions of the slash sabre DM? startup? recovery? distance?

- when being reset in the air, using elizabeth as an example, after a j.C in a corner combo but right before the DM juggle, can you v-slasher out? or does the state not allow any actions from the recovering player? it sounds like a general system question, but leona's v-slasher is the only air DM i could think of that could possibly even get you out of a situation like that.

few questions:

- can tenchigaeshi (hcb,f+A/C) still be shortcut'd by doing  ;dn ;db ;bk ;fd ;a/ ;c ?

- is there any invincibility on EX jiraishin (dp+A/C)? i.e. is it good for reversals?

- kumotsukaminage (hcf+A) used to work on most standing characters in XII (i compiled a list somewhere on the ON forums about who it did and didn't work on). does this still apply?

- does kirikabugaeshi (hcf+C) still have autoguard? i didn't see it mentioned anywhere here (i am known to be pretty blind and i'm infamous for skimming anyway).

most of these i could probably test for myself since i'm now located near an actual machine, though i thought i'd point out some questions to those who might know off hand, for those who don't have access to the game. either way, if i have time to test these this upcoming week, i'll update or post again.

General Discussion / Re: Dune's KOFXIII
« on: September 26, 2010, 10:45:32 AM »
it's quite sad to read actually. with the showing that was KOFXII, and knowing how poorly it was accepted, you'd have thought that SNK would have fully backed KOFXIII to continue their most popular franchise. it seemed like initially the hardcore fanbase loved it (and people are still enjoying the "newness" of it). as fun as it is to watch and play, unless SNK does work on it, the balancing could really take a toll on the longevity of KOFXIII, which is rather unfortunate. here's hoping that SNK sticks to their guns and keeps KOF alive.
