Just got back from Evo and KoF was extremely hype this year and we got a lot of stream exposure and big stage presence. Overall, the quality of pool play this year was so much better than last year with a lot of hype matches and tons of upsets. I recorded as much pool play as I could so I'll be uploading those to youtube sometime but some editing needs to be done. Personally, I liked last years top 8 better than this years but this year was extremely good as well. That being said, I think we would've had a different land scape if BALA, Koopa, and Huevo attended this year.

I think this is what I managed to record:

Tokido vs Zeroblack
Fox vs Haregoro (maybe it was Umezono I can't remember atm)
Sange Tencho (thanks to the facebook group for identifying this player for me) vs Ren
Kyabetsu vs Ren
Mr.KoF vs Cafe ID Verna
Mr.KoF vs Luffy
Reynald vs Dakou

That's all I can remember right now but I think I manage to get a few more vids than this.

Yeah, those grand finals were insane. That was pretty much an Evo grand finals for me because the level of play was so intense.

I'm disappointed that neither BALA nor Koopa can attend Evo this year. I know BALA had visa issues or something but Koopa would have been a nice substitute and a favorite to win the tournament or at least get top 8. I have no idea who's making top 8 this year since the competition is heavily concentrated this year than last year. There's a lot of wild cards this year and I'm expecting a lot of unexpected results and upsets.

A friend and I are going to try to record as many of the non-streamed pool play so if you guys see someone with a monopod and camera please make room. lol

What are the uses for K's sweep?

I'm tryng to be a little bit more unpredictable with K' because I'm finding that I'm being too easy to read. I'm not sure if it's just my general gameplay or K' oriented. So to try and remedy this situation, I'm trying to figure out the multiple uses for K's normals.

Also, what are good pressure strings for K' when on the offensive? I'm doing a few simple frame traps, but I'm finding that I'm leaving too many holes in the pressure, allowing them to escape. It could be due to my judgement or that I'm limiting my options too much when applying pressure.

I definitely would like to know more about K's:

-Hop Pressure Strings (Super needed!)
-Corner Pressure Strings
-Ground Pressure Strings

I don't want to Trigger a lot as I used to. Reasoning is because I'm noticing that for some matchups, doing a Trigger after a string effectively ends the pressure, or allows a hole for them to exit out of. Some Trigger Strings would also help as well!

K' sweep is pretty standard for any sweep. It's got a nice range to it and is special cancelable so you can cancel the recovery with Ein's Trigger to keep yourself mostly safe.

The thing with K' is he's trying to get the opponent in the corner so he can bully with Ein's Trigger traps. Midscreen you kind of have to rely on j.CD and anti-air reactions. Also, at high level play being able to capitalize off of stray j.CD's, CH j.CD's, or anti-air/air-to-air situations with TK Crow Bite is really important. It's what allows you to maximize damage from stray hits and get people into the corner faster. EX Crow Bites lets you get follow ups in the corner and you can score 450+ damage with You only want to cancel Ein's Trigger->Second Shoot in a block string when they don't have meter cause they can guard cancel roll in between and punish you. So you're ground pressure strings is pretty much standard alterations of c.B, c.A, s.B, s.A mixed in with delays, hops, and jumps.

In close range you don't want to use j.D because the hit box is weird and will often whiff or get you anti-aired with a crouching normal. I really like j.A, j.B, j.C and j.CD for his jumping normals at close ranges but primarily his j.A because it has fast start up and long active frames while j.CD has a good hit box on it.

There's nothing special in hop pressure strings, it's pretty much standard between all of the characters. You have to read your opponent and see if they are going to check a hop with a normal in between your strings. If they are throwing out anti-air normals in between gaps of your strings then you can do something like c.B, c.B, dash c.B and catch their normal. If they are mashing on c.A/B to stuff those type of strings you start hopping/jumping instead. Depending on the match up you can use normal jumps to throw the anti-air timing for normals that would stop hops.

In the corner, you're bullying with the threat of Ein's trigger. You don't really want to use it in a block string in the corner but stagger your normals to entice them to try and escape. When you leave those gaps you can try using Ein's Trigger->Second Shell to catch a button or a jump. There's no way to react to their jump so you'll have to throw in Ein's Trigger->Second Shell when you feel the opponent might jump. Otherwise, you can just do standard normal pressure with c.B, hops, etc... EX Ein's Trigger is really good in the corner for guard bar damage, frame advantage, and further bullying.

-Revised combo notation
-Added some combos
-Added info on the Clark match up

I don't know the exact numbers but pretty sure KoF had over 1000 entrants last year but a lot of people entered for the free t-shirt.

The trophy is not real. It's just a clever stream overlay.

I found a 4f safe jump with K'. After his qcf~hcb+p super if you whiff s.B and then do a slightly delayed hop j.A it's a 4f safe jump. You may wonder when you would land his super but if you do his 1 drive, 1 bar bnb in the corner you'll land it.

Anyone catch KoFXIII at South East Major? I missed it but I'm reading on twitter that Yao Ren pulled out the EX Iori and Benimaru infinites in tourney matches.

There's an excel sheet floating somewhere with all the Japanese players coming to Evo and what games they are participating in.

If you guys caught the TRB stream last night, Kane317 and TheAnswer were going over all the international players (that they know of) that are coming down to Evo this year. The line up sounds absolutely crazy this year and the pools are going to be concentrated killers. I'm actually kind of glad I'm not competing this year, as this will let me try to record as much of pool play as possible. Plus, I'll actually be able to explore Vegas and get in as much casuals as possible.

From what I can remember of the stream, Kane mentioned there's going to be an exhibition area somewhere. I'm hoping Kane can provide more details about this on the forums because I'm definitely interested.

It's a well done tutorial video for beginner-to-intermediate players as intended. I prefer his way of explaining the spacing after qcf+A and dp+A. Also, I've been trying to find a way to explain the different juggle properties off of dp+A and dp+C and I really like his way of calling it half and full juggles (not sure if this was used in previous KOF's).

The video mostly reinforces what Oscar and I talked about during the Elisabeth podcast. However, I think we were mistaken about the EX command dash being full body invincibility. Based on the video it looks like it's only upper body invincibility. He also did confirm that EX command has full body invincibility. I've actually corrected all of this in the wiki already. lol

There's only 2 things that I had issues in his video.

1) HD combos - He said the simplest 3 bar combos were cl s.C, f+B, HD activation, cl s.C, f+B xx dp+C, dp+A, qcfx2+P xx Neomax. The damage output was like 747 when he could have simplified it to cl s.C, f+B, HD, far s.C xx dp+C, qcfx2+p xx Neomax for 767 damage. Both are easy to do but from a beginner perspective, less inputs and more damage is better.

He also did 4 bar combos involving adding Grand Rafale after the Neomax when you might as well do EX qcfx2+P xx Neomax for like 891 damage.

2) Counter Hits - I would have liked to see him go into her counter hit scenarios more. I feel that this is really important in her game at an intermediate-to-expert level. I know his aim is for beginner-to-intermediate but the knowledge of what you get off of Counter Hit qcf+A, s.CD, and j.CD is really good info.

Also, check out for some high level Elisabeth play from Cebollas. It really outlines her strengths and weaknesses and the spacing you should be aiming with the character.

Check out the MM vids (especially part 2) to watch Kusanagi's K'. He has a very rush down based K' over Luis Cha's defensive K' play style. His hit confirms and execution off of stray hits is amazing. There's a couple of combos I'll have to remember from him. I like his use of old school tactics of whiffing standing normals to get a throw.

I added the following combos:

j.D -> d.B -> d.B -> qcf+AC -> f+D -> (delay) qcb+D -> qcb+K (miss) -> dp+C

j.CD -> j.qcb+BD -> dp+C

j.CD (Counter Hit) -> qcb+D -> qcb+K (miss) -> dp+A (2 hits)

j.CD (Counter Hit) -> j.CD -> j.qcb+BD ->dp+C

j.CD (Counter Hit) -> qcb+D -> qcb+K (miss) -> dp+A (1 hit) -> DC qcf+C (Corner) -> f+D -> f+A -> j.CD -> j.qcb+BD -> dp+C

When I have some time tonight I want to do some damage and stun values for the combos. Also, for whoever was working on the K' wiki originally, do you mind if I changed the combo notation so it's consistent with the other character wikis?

Changing things like '->' to ',' and 'd.X' to 'c.X'

-Reorganized combo listings based on midscreen, corner, and counter hit rather than no drive and drive cancel.
-Reorganized cross ups, safe jumps, and command grab mind games under tips rather than their own section.
