Quick question, is there any room for a "general strategy" in the 2K2UM/NGBC wikis and if so, where specifically in the format should they go???

On a sidenote: going to start on the NGBC wiki this week, and help out more on the 2K2UM portions if possible...

It seems his block stun trick with  ;bk ;fd ;a;c still guarantees a free  ;dn ;df ;fd ;dn ;df ;fd ;a;c if the opponent tries to do anything... I was able to catch my opponent attacking or even doing jump attacks... Jumping  ;c ;d didn't even seem to work...

I haven't had the chance to truly practice with him just yet, but what frame traps or general tricks does he have if any???

If not for the online support, I still would've bought it for local matches... Besides, 02UM is the closest thing to KOFXIII in terms of system, and I'm pretty sure a bunch of people aren't around a KOFXIII machine...

The lower the ping, the less lag you'll experience... The higher the number, well you know that just sucks at that point... Roughly anything with a ping of 160ish (maybe slightly more) and lower is good... Some might say 100 or lower, but I've experienced good matches with a ping of 120 and it depends on the network setup sometimes - like wireless connections might show good ping, but can have a tendency to lag spike...

So you got 50-150, that's actually not bad really... I'll be online today and I can see how I fair out network-wise against your connection if you happen to be on...

Has anyone had to redownload 02UM and notice a change in the lag???

General Fighting Game Discussion / Re: Namco's Ryu
« on: November 04, 2010, 06:19:32 PM »
for some wierd reason, lots of people think that all fighting games characters are rip offs from capcom

Capcom invented karate!

Most of the original World Warriors were ripped off of several anime characters, some KOF characters and some are based on real people...

So how long before a lot of newcomers to the fighting game community start saying that Sega's Akira looks too much like this Ryu?

Quote
Trust me, he got enough of that during the first and second VF.

Yeah, Akira might have looked like him, but Ryu looked like Mas Oyama... Plus Akira's 1P costume was his white gi to my knowledge... Most of the advertisements and fights you might see are with him wearing his blue and red kung fu gi (like the one he wears in the anime)... It wasn't until VF4 that his white gi became his 1p outfit...

Most game companies that make "main characters" are always inspired by something... Zen from The Rumble Fish, although had an original design, still had the "fight to become the strongest" mindset which several "posterboy" characters from other games had...

Kazuya could very well be original... I honestly don't know what ideas Namco got when making him...

Is there any chance that we could get a wiki setup for ngbc??? I'll gladly contribute to that if possible...

Also, is there ever going to be a thread made for foreign players??? It would be kinda cool if we were able to unite players from Germany, Japan, France, or elsewhere...

1252
One things for sure, its no NGBC in terms of netcode... But who knows, maybe if people said something to ignition somebody or a liason that works for/with SNK, they might fix it... They're actively listening now, too...

Alot of people I've come across have been saying he's difficult to use, but still a solid character... What actually makes him difficult??? The rekkas aren't hard to combo with... He has good normals... He's pretty balanced imo (I'm pretty sure someone has proof that this isn't true)... Is his move priorities messed up to the point that he's considered difficult???

I don't understand her "Ei Sake" moves. What's the difference between  ;fd ;a and  ;a ;fd?

;fd ;a is her command normal, which can be comboed into (i.e.-  ;dn ;a;a;fd ;a;dn ;df ;fd ;a ).  ;a  ;fd is one of her counters. It has to be done as the opponent attacks.

- Close ;d does two hits making it very easy to hit-confirm into command moves or special attacks.

- Stand ;b does two hits and is only cancel-able while doing the move in Max Mode ( ;b ;c ).
- Stand ;c does two hits and moves Mature forward.
- Stand ;d deceiving looks like Iori's ;dn ;d but does not hit low.

Crouching
- ;dn ;a / ;c / ;d are cancel-able/whiff cancel-able.
- ;dn ;a / ;b are chain-able, but ;dn ;a is faster and ;dn ;b cannot be canceled into anything other than normals.
- ;dn ;b can only be blocked low.
- ;dn ;c is a moderately good anti-air if used early enough, it can canceled but only before her arm extends into the air

;ub ;up ;uf  ;b does two hits and allows for a combo if desired. This move can be used for a cross-up if done with a hyper hop at the right distance, however, it will not combo into anything.

- Despair (QCF+P) can be done in mid-air
- B version of Decide (HCF+K) will drag the opponent up to where Mature is standing. You can then cancel it into any special move other than Decide.
- far C uses the KOF'96 animation, and can be cancelled on the first and second hits
- HSDM has faster startup and can be comboed from strong attacks

I know if you catch your opponent with  ;dn ;df ;fd ;a in the corner, you can do  ;fd ;dn ;df ;b for an extra hit... There's a few other things you can do as well, but I believe this is the best option. I tried connecting her K super and it won't connect...

Another combo I found that does a little more damage is  ;c , ;b ;c ~ ;fd ;d , ;dn ;df ;fd ;a . It requires a bit of practice, as hitting  ;b ;c and  ;fd ;d at the wrong time will result in a close standing  ;d . It's not as strict as linking  ;a to  ;fd ;a .

Is there anything guaranteed off of the counters??? I haven't seen those moves used ever...

Correction, the small combo would be ;dn ;df ;fd ;c in the corner, then ;fd ;dn ;df ;b for the extra hit... You could do a standing ;a or crouching ;c and it would hit, but that would be for mixup - like doing a ;dn ;c after ;dn ;df ;fd ;c to setup for another ;dn ;df ;fd ;c or command throw (but the timing is tricky)...

General Discussion / Re: KOF XIII at EVO 2011
« on: November 01, 2010, 08:16:06 PM »
If it doesn't make the cut for some reason, at least there will be a bunch of KOF side tourneys and casuals, and hopefully seeing that will make them think about their decisions (or lack thereof)...

I play all fighting games, but I am excited about KOFXIII possibly being at EVO, and I hope that this hype spreads over to the SF side as I know a few people who play both games...

1259
Dope, SNK you've done well... Now we gotta wait and see how it plays online...

Man that sucks for Heidern with the slower charge startup. Most people I talk to say that he's good, but not as great as he could be... I'm checking out some match vids to see this potential... I'm actually starting to learn characters I've never played the last time I played vanilla 2k2... Man, I was really hoping I could use regular Geese in tournaments... Oh well...

If KOFXIII doesn't make the EVO cut for whatever reason, here's hoping that this will...

1260
I don't know if this has been answered already (but I've been searching) but what is the "actual" difference between regular UM and the Tougeki (SBO) version, and which version is on xbla???

And as far as tourneys go, what are the official rules for this game (including who's banned)???
