Except if I'm not mistaken, Normal Kyo can't cancel the second hit, hence the need to cancel it early, and since they don't reference the second hit at all, it would elude to the entire normal being uncancellable.

Could be. Of course, given that we now know this:

Holy! So Kyo's actually fast enough now to link Aragami into a light attack ;o

I don't think it matters much anymore, lol.
It's great to see these EX characters getting new tricks. They could have easily been lazy cut-and-paste jobs, but their buffs are making them whole new versions of classic favorites. This is a good way to give Japan less reason to go back to 2K2UM, and to stick around with KoFXIII... Add Hinako, Nameless, and Bao, and they might just forget the game entirely! XD

I noticed that too

In the notes it said he cant special cancel his df+D but he did in HD mode

Actually, the notes said:

Quote
2) df+D 1hit no longer cancellable

Couldn't this mean he can only cancel the 2nd hit, possibly? Would make some sense, as normal Kyo can cancel it early, due to not having many specials that move him so far foward, whereas this Kyo's main specials are all about forward movement.

Random Note: Noone seems to catch on to the fact that Mr. Karate's First hit of Neomax is a very ridiculous version of Marco's Charge Punch from Garou :)

Also, it appears that a flaming image of his mask appears in the Neomax flame column, and that the mask nods in acceptance of something when the final blow lands.

His EX Ranbu also looks more unique than I was expecting. I didn't think he had Zanretsuken as a normal move, either. Wonder if his EX version will still have Anywhere juggle properties?

I also like the fact that Kyo's body is redrawn in licks of flame during his Mu Shiki. Not just glowing red like in old KoF's, but his body is actually on fire, with flame tails forming from him. That's quite a nice effect.

They seem to put a lot of love into these EX characters. Same with their stages. I'm quite happy with that; premium pricing met with premium quality. Even if their Neomax's reuse animations, they seem to have just put that animating time into the more worthwhile moves of the characters, the one's you'll be using every few seconds in the countless matches you'll play them in...

A console Kim Combo loop using loads of Stocks. Provided by a very apathetic uploader, lol.

So a Stun Combo for Kim + No use of HD cancel stocks, eh? not bad...

No problem. So hype for this shit on Tuesday. Does anyone know if you can set music to play for a certain character on PS3? Because I want to use the Robocop theme for Clark.

The only kind of music option is using the systems music player stuff (XMB on PS3, I believe it's called?)

There's nothing in game to adjust music, other than the Track A and B stuff.
And of course on Xbox, you can use it's guide menu to play whatever music you want.

BTW, the last DLC stage also shown by MaxModeMedia, Mr. Karate's:

Esaka is just so good for that matter, haha. It's just great to have a stage with an obvious day0to-night change. The Desert does something similiar, but Esaka's is just so much more pronounced!

NEW: Saiki's 10th Trial, for those who are interested:

sibarraz, btw, how big is the Install file on 360 for the game?

And y'know, I like that the SRK article have people speaking otherwise all throughout the replies. Great to see it's not all doom & gloom, like it could be. Some individual opinions, and some open-minded viewpoints. I've seen much worse from SRK in the past.

Appears to be Shiki from Samurai Shodown / NGBC in the center, and to the left (our directions) it's Moriya from Last Blade.

Scumgale combos are some of the best! It ranks right up where with Maxima Press, and Claw Iori's throw.

I never tried to master Iori, but being able to toss someone around so casually while destroying them is pretty fun to watch. Should be very fun to use.

Love the custom colors that are showing up here, too. Any of them resemble anything here? I think I'll have to make a team Atlus somehow, lol. Kyo = Persona 3 Hero, Shen = Akihiko? Looking forward to original creations and rip-offs alike!

oh anyone know why Clark Steel has been called "Still" since KOFXII?  Wasn't it originally Steel?

Generally, it's said that it changed because Clark Steel was too close to "Clark Kent, the Man of Steel".

I'm not sure if DC ever commented / saught action on it, but I do remember people complaining about the name being changed, and being suprised anyone would notice a little company like SNKP making such a semi-sly joke / tribute.

Ok, for the one who asked, Haohmaru appears in the esaka stage after the 4th round

In ranked, you can search matches for region, skill level, and ping level

Thanks for the Info, and the Esaka stage sounds very in-depth, then. Like one of the most complex stages in the game, period. A premium item attached to a DLC character is cool. I can deal with the teasing preview of the stage, before it's fully available; a bit awkward, but even if it's a mistake, it's kind of cool.

Song selection, how does it work?

Is it like in arcade when you have to hold down a certain button? Or is there an option that lets you choose what songs come up?

Unfortunately, it's an option that's set, somewhere in the options menu. I would have liked the "Hold button to get Alt theme" method myself, but maybe the game Cache's the soundtracks or something, and can only have some much loaded at a time, and stay reasonable in loadtimes, or something.

The options are an "A" and "B" track setting. First is for XIII's specific themes, and B is for the classic themes.

When it actually gets to the fight, the music that plays is decided by the challengers first character in a fight, I believe.

WHAT?! The KOF96 Esaka stage is already included????   Or was it from a preview build?

The characters and stages appear to already be on the disk. So getting to see Esaka 96 is a glitch / fun bonus, it seems.

Ohhhh, they are either planning KOFXIV dreammatch to include them as playables or they are already in the process of being developed as playable DLC!!!!!  (I can at least see Botan and Shroom+Rimelo being added to KOFXIII, but no one really knows how far along those characters are ready for either DLC or a KOFXIII/XIV expansion.  I don't think those single sprites are just for icons, they could hint at future plans. ).  Other companies get away with reselling updated versions of their fighting games so I wouldn't mind if they offer these characters through a separate version, or DLC characters, either way they should be added as playables, and the rest of those icon hints too (like Heidern, Adelheid, Mukai, etc.)

Usually KOF dreammatches bring back villains/characters from those in the saga. so it's really possible they might make previous unplayable story characters playable in a new KOFXIII version or the KOFXIV version that includes just about every major story character from Ash Saga as playables!   :)

Now affinity, fair warning, you know how "Serious business" gamers react to rampant TFTP Fandom, lol. So tread lightly in that respect ;)

Of those characters, I have to wonder. While Rimelo and Shroom are somewhat possible, I don't see them as becoming fighters, personally. They seem more like pestering nuisances, rather than actual fighters. Botan I could possibly see, her puppetmaster abilities could be much like a mix of Chizuru + the partners of Igniz. I'm kinda suprised to see Magaki and Shion, but maybe Botan could bring them back, much as how Igniz uses Krizalid, even after he was killed offscreen in the past (-_-; )

Personally, having her control a variety of characters for the sake of attacks, would be the most efficient way I could see the mostly-non-fighter TFTP members as being "playable fighters".

I wish Chizuru has a pic too... Would be great to have her back, so we could have a sacred treasures team.

I think I remember reading somewhere that they used 3D models as the basis for their sprites, then retouched them to look more hand-drawn.

If that's true perhaps there are models of everyone you posted... which means maybe it's feasible to make them into real playable characters in an update or future installment.

It is reasonable. Unless they skipped a step and just sprited them without modelwork, lol. But it's probably pretty likely that they have models of loads of KoF characters made already... it's the spriting part that's the most difficult and time-consuming!

So, 1 posted video on a page of the Video thread, eh?

C'mon guys. If you wanna discuss something non-vid related, take it to the "Social Club or something! :)

-----

I'm personally suprised we haven't seen any videos or pictures from all these people who have early releases. I'm a bit happy that there haven't been any story spoilers and such, but some combo vids or something would be nice!

Sure, it's not HUGE news, but I find this pretty cool: As the Prof notes on MMCafe, PSNProfiles has full sized version of the Trophy / Achievement images from the game. You can clearly see, now, that SNKP at least made a single sprite frame for each of these characters, which is pretty cool!
