It isn't. It was going to be a prequel at first, but now it has nothing to do with it. It's has to do with Aliens in a spiritual sense.

No one yet knows if it's a true prequel. But I'm calling it a prequel. The trailer clearly shows the derelict craft that contained the eggs and space jockey from the first Alien.
