The frequent Ex Kachosen is one of the few habits that separate my Mai from Ash's.

Of course when designing a character they incorporate flexibility for playstyles, however the hit&run works so well with her speed, priority and jump arcs it's like saying Maxima has autoguards but you don't really play him using them which is such a waste (and for the record, I don't hit&run to win by time, ever -- one of the only other pet peeves I have).  Yes she has corner combos that, like Hwa Jai, come to life in the corner (Hwa being a more extreme case in damage and in variety) but she is very limited. Most of her combo starters are Ex Ryuenbu or hcf+K cancels, which in the corner leads to a bunch of Ryuenbu juggles, and that's really about it. Between Ash and I, we can perform all the longer Mai combos that we've posted in the Mai thread but have yet to capture the cooler variations on camera.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying THOSE Mais that you saw in the vids is the best Mai there is, of course not, I would never imply something so pretentious.  I'm just saying, by and large, that's how Mai is and there's nothing more crazy or revolutionary you're probably going to see in the coming months from any videos including the beloved KCE which I adore as well (but I pray that I'm wrong).

It's subtle, but I try to incorporate as much variety in my gameplay, you can see me going for the jump D (blocked) --> into wall jump mixups and I use her c.d~ub/uf+P for zoning, hell I even use her air dives and they're hella risky.

What Diavle want to see is some of her combos listed in her thread.  We rarely seen any DM combo, or HD combo with her, even we didn't see damaging corner combos (I never seen any of these combos that can be finished with air grab). Watching combo's list of her thread, you realize that Mai has things we never have seen in videos. Maybe is because all these nice combos are uneffective in a real match or simply because Mai players seen in vids use her as filler bar first character and they don't pretend combo with her.

But, combos aside, I think use Mai as zoning-run attack-escape character is the regular way to use her. At least I always played her in that way (maybe using more Musasabi and Hisatsu)

(sorry for the offtopic, maybe we should move this to Mai's discussion thread)

Ahhh, I see what you're getting at (this is mildly relevant since it's about the videos in questions.)  Short answer, you'll see them in due time.  Longer answer: Mai is relatively new to both Ash and myself (and we're the only Mai users in AI) as oppose to Shen and Chin who I've been using since day one.  Both of us actually did corner combos with drive cancels etc. in the tournament but they were done on earlier matches which were not recorded I'm afraid.  Lastly, Mai is too awesome as a battery character so flashier combos which are usually reserved for 2nd and 3rd characters are seldom seen.

Remember she has a limited moveset: she doesn't hit confirm well (no command attacks), she doesn't really have a safe move except qcb+A (even the C version is kinda unsafe), her DM suffers hugely from damage scaling and therefore Ex Ryuenbu is a much better substitute usage of a stock and finally her HD combos are really only useable near the corner (she has one non-corner HD combo that requires you to have 2 stocks) but going back to the hit confirm and lack of command attacks, activating HD is much more of a challenge.

Command attacks help hit confirmations so much it's not funny (think Shen, Iori, Terry, K' etc...), at least some characters who don't have command attacks have 2 hit standing attacks to hit confirm (Mature's s.B and Raiden's s.D) into HD.  Kensou also suffers from the same problem as Mai.

Currently we're both working on activating HD on light attacks but we're still practicing (I was trying it on the early rounds in the tournament and got it off once or twice but not consistently).

These weren't bad at all. Suffered from too much top tier use, but didn't ruin it for me. Surprised with the double K.O. in one vid, and the clinch victory with Shen. And was it just my computer or were some of the vids slightly higher in quality than normal?

i disagree, didn't see that much K/Liz/fatguy at all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6HcIzMvHJw <- epic last match. 4 or so out of the above vids featured sans cullotes combos, some of which quite nicely done, considering it's not practice mode.
KoF XIII... Needs more Angel, Vanessa and Blue Mary! ^^

MUSOLINI

In the end, there can only be XIII.

Look at this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dr-zhRYPWOw&feature=related

At around the 58th second the guy does a two hit chain into qcb+P for a three hit combo, shouldn't the two kicks give you enough time to hit confirm into HD? That's how I hit confirm into a super in MOTW with Hokutomaru, his sB, sD chain.

And can you transition into HD using an EX move? Then you should be able to do cB, cB, sB into EX HCF+K to get into HD. Kinda like with Kensou you do cB, cB and then use the rekka to get into HD.

Just poking won't get you far, is what I'm trying to say, because the opponent has nothing to fear. You gotta find ways to get in there and create pressure and to let them know that they will be in a world of hurt if they mess up.

He does a s.D into a qcb C (which hits twice).

Well activating on the light hits is an extra step (extra hit) then just activating with the shortcut (hcf BCD etc..)

Poking into HD into a full combo is something to fear.  Yeah of course, if they did a whiff dp I'll unleash a full HD but till then pokes works well (see how KCE vids how they activate with light hits).

Ah, cool.

Well there you go, an easy and long hit confirm.

That's what I'm talking about, having those in your arsenal and actually using them. All I saw in those vids was pretty much exclusively poking into nothing.

Hehe we're not there yet, we're getting there. ;)

Been trying to learn this myself but have lots of failed attempt, I'm going to learn it even if it causes me to lose,  I see it becoming. A necessity

To one of these vids...I wonder if it's better to just block and risk a guard crush from a meterless Raiden than to try and avoid his drop kicks but risk getting hit by them if you make a mistake...

And lol at the NM punishes/finishes.

It's up to the player, btw if you guard his first lvl 4 dropkick there's enough time for you to run up and throw him.

Gravelneed

wow those vids were great. I'm really happy to see some character variety.....and NeoMax's punishes lol

Ash in all those vids was really good. I'm guessing it was the same player because of their frequent use of the fire kiss(this move is good people) in the corner.

Also, have there been any match vids of Ash's move, Germinal being used?

That move is great to gain the advantage especially with Raiden/K'/Liz.

V1.0 so infinites are in (Joe+Mature).

Nice Takuma in there, some Clark and Mai action is present as well.

Chin fans may want to shield their eyes at the end of part 2.
