Dark Geese

An often overlooked game with RB2 and RB1 being in the mix, there are very very few matches you will find on youtube of this gem of a game. While it is before RB2, it was cut after RB1!

While no longer do you have Ring Outs, the walls still have a strategic value in that once broken your opponent is temporarily dizzy! This game also was the first to introduce Nightmare Geese. The game overall is so well balanced you could argue 90% of the cast is in A Class (There truly is no "Mid Tier" in this game). Also this if you are a Mai Shiranui fan, this game has the best version of Mai you can find in any game! (Yes even FFS or RB1 this is the complete Mai in this game!)

Also then you have the infamous "Line Shift Argument" where it seems people that haven't played the game ENOUGH argue that the Line Shift attacks are too strong in this game and thats what doomed it. Line Shifts aren't soo strong in this game where they don't have a corner. I recall people saying you can just sit in one plane with Billy and only tap a few buttons and win! It's not that simple unless you are facing a braindead opponent!!!

US Tier List:

God Tier and Banned:
Nightmare Geese

S+ Class:
Billy/EX, Sokaku, Duck King

S- Class:
Mai, Krauser, Kim, Yamazaki,  Joe, Terry, Andy/EX, EX Blue Mary

A+ Class:
Blue Mary, Franco Bash, Lawrence Blood

A- Class:
Hon Fu, Chonrei, Chonshu, Bob Wilson

Low Tier:
Tung Fu Rue/EX, Cheng Sinzan

I have challenged myself to provide matches in this game on my youtube channel since there are so few to be found:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CizBPM7bzDY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9UVRACJAy0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcBvCWJRUyM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHEc-p90kiQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNksAkG78mg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSP6iEiBiq8

These are older matches of course with the main problem being that I cannot use my newer recording software to direct feed the Real Bout Collection or Fatal Fury Special, it simply does not like it. So for future casuals like with Shin SSV on PS2, I have to record it with a camera.

I think it's time for a RBS Revival!!!

As far as the tops in the USA in this game (that remain left lol), I'd say they are (w/mains I think):

-Myself (Mai MASTAH, Duck King, Krauser, EX Blue Mary, EX Andy/Andy, Laurence Blood, Sokaku, Billy)
-Deadly Rave Neo (Duck King)
-ShinBlanka (EX Tung Fu Rue)

Those are the ones that I know of and whether they still play it is anyone's guess. I still play it and have been all this time!

Nah, you ain't tryin' to see me or my Bob Wilson infinite. ;) Anyway, I'm still have a love for those games and play them from time to time, but it's hard to get anyone interested in any SNK games besides KoF or Garou these days.

Bob Wilson infinite in RBS? I know he's got one in RB2 but in RBS???? Please tell me more!!!!!

Yes I understand hard to get anyone interested in anything other than KoF or Garou I hear yah..

desmond_kof

Me and Deadly Rave Neo played some RBS online on ArcLive once, but if you want a revival, you should start online and have some hyped grudge matches offline in it for people to care I think. RBS is pretty fun, I will be down to learn it more too. I'm also down to learn SSTenka/6 too.

No, you're right. The Bob Wilson infinite is in RB2 only. I thought this was a thread discussion for the entire RB series. My bad. I do use Bob Wilson and Hon-Fu.

Seeing this thread makes me smile. I don't know the game very well, but it's a real joy to play. I've shown RBS to several friends as their first introduction to Real Bout and it never fails to impress. Love that announcer. "Be tough or be dead, big guy!"

Questions:

Do all the walls in the game break after the same number of hits? What is that number?

Why are the Tungs and Cheng considered low tier? What are their problems?

Why hasn't Mai been this good in any other games? At least she finally got her fan rekkas back in 2002UM, but I think that's only the SECOND game they've been in. C'mon, SNK.

MUSOLINI

tung and cheng have shitty damage output.
In the end, there can only be XIII.

As the other guy said, low damage output and for Cheng very risky specials/options.

Mai has never been this good before, not even in 2002 UM is she this good! She is the total package in this game the more I play it the more I realize it!!!

As far as the number of hits to wall break not sure, I just know there are "wallbreak comboes" that will break the walls!

Other things to not are that certain things are removed in the PS2 home versions of the games which tweaks the characters:

1. Sokaku's Glitch
2. EX Andy toned down

Other stuff as well, so the tiers in this game on the US are based off the CONSOLE VERSION (PS2) of the game NOT the arcade.

Also something else like RB2, tick throws are hard in this game so you have to realize that it can become a turtlefest but because everyone has soooo many options in this game it rarely does become a turtle fest! Also the fear of wallbreaking forces people to be more offensive!!!

Other things that are different in this game over RB2-

Krauser:

Gigatec Cyclone has more range, to play Krauser at his max you have to master sweep range Gigatec Cyclone!
Tomahawk KNOCKS DOWN, which makes more mixups.

Desmond- We can play some RBS when I'm in Minnesota this week!

another thing that sucks about cheng is bad supers and not comboable.

also whats soo good about ex andy, hes just as good as normal andy imo, nothing special.

also terry not S tier? hes as good as the rest in the S tier. also ex mary isnt better than normal marry. their bout equally good imo, normal marry has better normal combos and moves, while ex has better supers.

could somebody point out why ex andy is 2 tiers higher than normal andy? he doesnt have the tools to be that high imo, normal andy is also better than where hes put. both got comboable supers and ppowers and safe moves.

and indeed, krausers gigantic is boss in this game. ive been caught and ive caught people as far as almost 1/3 screen or 1/4 screen away. cpu level 8 actually caught me with this move once from a huge distance (just when i was about to face nightmare) while i had only taken chip damage from 1 blocked fb, i died. good ol level 8 snk syndrome.
In the end, there can only be XIII.

At least here in the USA- EX Mary can shut down a lot of the top tier because of her specials. She also has the juggle anywhere state (dp+k move can get off a sweep) which completely helps her out in crossup maneuvers. EX Mary also seems faster than regular Mary.

Regular Mary is more attack based than EX Mary, EX is more grappler and trap based so EX Mary is better balanced overall to counter the top tier characters. Mary has counters and a regular grab, but does not have anything else thus she is just attack based.

EX Andy used to have an infinite in the arcade version I believe but I am not certain if it was removed in the console version (I do not recall what it is) thus I have him where he is. EX Andy infinite experts could elaborate whether it has been removed or not. Otherwise I would rate Andy and EX about the same.

Terry could possibly be S- give or take, but I haven't seen a S- level Terry yet so again this is regional tier list...I can see that Terry has the capability to be S- without question, I just wanna see him played to that level to validate it because here in the USA I haven't seen an S- level Terry player.

EDIT: After playing it some more today have moved the Tier Lists around some more.

MUSOLINI

im liking the tierlist a lot better now. i totally agree with moving laurence and andy. if it where up to me though:

duck king = S- he just isnt as good as the other ones in this tier imo, would be better in place 1 tier lower imo.

maybe move yamazaki up to S- as well, but he might be good where you got him. some things i didnt see from your vids, he can break walls in 1 combo and he can kill opponents in 2 combos. he canpin people down real good. his double return is fucking boss in his game, super fast, and almost always punishes any fb thrown at you. against character like joe who use 3 fb's he absorbs the first and shoots his own fb straight through the other 2, its like geese  ;a reppuken in this game, other fb's cant stpo it. hes a serious competitor and if he touches you 2 times your as good as dead. and thats without the use of superpowers. hes dope in rb2, but also in rbs and rb1, fuck even in ff3 hes boss with as little as 3 moves.

and terry is really REALLY powerful. hes AT LEAST as strong as mai, joe and andy's, AT LEAST. terry is a beast, i suggest you try playing him and learning him, you wont regret it. his combos ending in powercharge into powerdunk or rising tackle kills opponents in almost 2 combos. he can combo his ppower after the powercharge as well. if hes close to the corner he can add a rising tackle after it. he has some of the best normals in the game. some of the best and safest specials in the game. rising tackle cant be beat, like most charge specials it can go forward a bit or straight up (people know this, right?). some characters even have trouble defending against the powerdunk even if they are able to block it. even powerdunk seems unbveatable in this game, it doesnt trade but straight out beat any non invincible dp like rising tackle or tiger kick or andys dp. i think normal mary's dp might have invible frames in it, same for mai btw (d-u+C).

In the end, there can only be XIII.

I'd say Duck King in the USA stays where he is for now because:

Duck King- He has the most mixups in the game outside of Sokaku. He does easy damage and gets a guaranteed OTG off a throw (not everyone gets this, EX Andy does and a few others but he doesn't get it. Duck King also really doesn't have many bad matchups, his toughest matchup is Billy, but that's it. He can fight anyone in the game.

If anyone I question in S+ Class now it's Kim because I do not see what makes him S+ Class at least here in the USA. Can someone please explain this to me....until I can get a really good explanation I'm moving him down to S-.

I'd say in S- Mai is above even Terry because:

Mai- She has an option select airthrow, frame traps, can throw half the cast and link into hcf+c or super. Also she can fight anyone in the game.

Terry is strictly attack based meaning you do not truly fear the throw with Terry.  But with Mai you fear the throw.

**So Tier list has been altered again, and this is the sign guys of a well balanced game!!!**

I didn't know this. How does that work?

Are there any tricks to get all (or just most of) the hits of Terry's Triple Geyser to connect after Power Charge? I can only get one reliably, but sometimes two. It seems random.
