Hi KOF community, I'm one of the leads for the testing team at Atlus USA, the publisher of the upcoming King of Fighters XIII on XBox 360 and PlayStation 3. As you may or may not know, we've been doing some location tests for the game. You might've seen King of Fighters XIII at EVO or Otakon and perhaps even played it. And if you noticed any bugs while play-testing, I'd love to hear about them in this thread. We want this game to be the best it can be at release, and any help from the community regarding this matter is greatly appreciated.

Please include the following information when reporting (if possible):
- Description of the bug
- Steps outlining how to reproduce the bug
- How often the bug was able to be reproduced (ie. always, sometimes, once)

Some broad categorizations of what bugs might include:
- Freezing or slowdown
- Corrupted graphics or sound
- Infinites or exploits

What does NOT classify as a bug:
- Balance issues
- Missing features
- Your opinion of the game

Thank you in advance for any assistance that you guys can provide us. If you can cite video footage of a bug, that would be incredibly helpful. I will be monitoring this thread on a regular basis, so if anyone has questions about this subject, feel free to post and I'll do my best to respond.

The most obvious bug we noticed at Evo, which you most likely know already, was the slowdown that occurred when both players activated their HyperDrive; it happened every time those conditions were met.  The slowdown made the characters play like they're underwater.

Yu Namba also mentioned it maybe stage specific or it happens worse when the airship or desert stage was picked.

FataCon

Category: Slowdown

Description: Particular stages would generally cause slowdown; particularly, the desert stage. Having both characters activate HD mode would cause slowdown. However, even a singular character in HD mode could cause temporary slowdown: Ralf in HD using qcb+C (will look for video source).

Triggers:

- certain stages
- both characters having HD mode active
- using particle heavy attacks during HD mode (conjecture)

Rate of occurrence: often

-------------------------

Category: Instability

Description: After the order select screen, (while on the black loading screen) the loading animation in the bottom right corner would play, but the game would fail to load even after several minutes.

Triggers:

- unknown, possibly a specific console unit error

Rate of occurrence: twice (same console/setup)

-------------------------

NOTE: all of the above mentioned were seen in the EVO build.

THE ANSWER

Hi White Rob, welcome to dreamcancel. I'll be uploading videos form the KOF XIII Atlus side tourney this, maybe we can all help spot some more bugs once I upload them.

Continuing the slowdown bug issue:

2K11 EVO KOF XIII El Rosa VS ????????

In this video, when Ralf is in HD mode, his EX ground pound also causes slowdown. The Players even talk about it after that match is over.

From my experience with the game (Otakon), slowdown seemed to occur to varying degrees whenever anything complex was done in coordination with HD being active.

Once, the game froze at the loading screens for us (towards the end of the last day at Otakon), as the first match was loading. I probably had Chin, Maxima... and not sure whom else, the other guy probably had something like Kyo, Terry, and maybe Shen? Not sure which stage we were going to, but after restarting the system, we went to the same stage as the video above. I never personally saw it freeze again in the 2 days I was there.

Didn't notice any graphical errors (like flashing sprites, or dissapearing pieces or anything).

We did a LOT of Button checks when I played at Otakon, and this was slower than needed. I bring it up to ask this, however: is there suppose to be a default "Taunt" (Personal Action) Button? I could only get it to work by specifically SETTING a PA button, but you'd expect for something to do this action under default, such as the back/select buttons. Should be some way to access it, without button configuring.

Hopefully I'll report any issues at SvB this Fri - Sun.

Note: Did not have a lot of time to time experiment because I was judging groups and even with 6 setups they were always occupied which is a good thing :D

Category: Slowdown

Description:
Basically if one player activates and the other activates soon after there is noticeable slowdown.

Triggers:
When both players activated HD mode one after the other

---------------------

Category: Cross up bug

Description:
Still existed but not to a large extent.

Triggers:
Mostly against crouching characters and those that are waking up.

I don't know if you could count this as a bug, but I figure it could be seen as a possible issue?

With Vice, She has a DragonPunch motion ;a / ;c move (Splash), and and HCB, F + ;a ;c move (Gore Fest).

HCB, F motions can apprently be used as a shortcut to DPs in this game, and players use it to avoid Fireball / DP mixups when doing HD combos.

However, since Vice has both these motions as 2 seperate moves, I personally found it really difficult to get my hcb, f EX move to properly come out while playing at Otakon. I know it could be chalked up to execution, of course, but if possible, I wonder if SNKP can look into changing the buffer/shortcut with Vice to make the moves work better between each other, or perhaps change the HCB, F motion to use the Kick buttons, rather than the Punches, or change the throw to F, HCF + P instead?

I never played the arcade release, so I can't say if it felt different than that particular version, but just figured I'd note it!

Noticed slowdown while playing normally on the Jungle stage twice.  No one was in HD mode or anything.

One thing someone mentioned is that the slow loading times was due to the fact the game was running on debugged consoles which is apparently normal.

Nocturnal

I know this isn't the 360 version but maybe someone can replicate it.

Yeah that's particularly annoying since I'm a Vice user as well, but I don't think that constitute as a bug per se, but good suggestion.  In the meantime, stick with hcb~ub~up~uf+P.

Well I didn't assist to any of the console exhibitions or anything, but this combo video does have some bugs exhibition in the middle of it. Dunno if this bugs are still presented on the console version, but it doesn't hurt to test them out.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. I have been checking whatever you guys posted in the current console build. Please note that while not all of these issues may be addressed, we are looking into each matter carefully before determining what the best course of action may be.

Oh, and the slowdown issues are pretty much nonexistent in the current build, so you guys won't have to worry about that come retail release.

Good shit! Honestly that was one of my concerns at EVO.

I hope you guys tackle some of the AI quirkiness I saw in one of the Pax videos. Good AI is going to be important for guys like me who don't go online.
