Easy combo characters

Hi, I've been playing KOF since 94 (although I stopped after 99) but always at a casual level.  My characters were usually Ralf, Athena, Kensou and Shingo.

Anyways, I've always been bad at combos, so I want to choose characters that dont really need to rely on combos much.  I am especially bad with link combos and other such things that require specific timing.  Unfortunately I'm not so hot with grapplers either.  In 98, I thought I did ok with Ralf/Kensou/Athena doing pokes, throw mixups and simple cancel combos.

So what would be good characters for me in 13?  Athena seems relatively the same, and doesnt seem to need anything much more complicated than j.C > cl.C > f+B > qcb+D.  So I will keep using her.

However from mission mode Ralf seems to be all about links, and Kensou seems more combo oriented too.  So I need some characters to replace them.  I have had some minor 1st day success with Yuri and Leona.

So yeah, I'm looking for characters like 3S Chun Li - characters with simple execution but great natural advantages like good pokes, high health, useful moves etc.

Any advice would be appreciated, apart from "Man up and practice combos you scrub." :)

Shen :) and with some training, Terry.

good chars and user friendly to approach 13 engine.

I'm also not so great with the combos either so I definitely agree with Terry his close C does two hits plus can cancel into his command normal. I also recommend Joe and Robert and even Kyo. Both Joe and Robert have close. C  f+b links  into super moves. Kyo takes a little more practice but he also has a good command normal link which I feel doesn't take as much of a learning curve as other characters and can be performed from a jump or ground attack.

Cool, I'll give them a try, thanks.

Running Wild

I'd say try Maxima, his combo's are very compact and easy to do, and he dishes huge damage

I just started playing KoF and I find that King is pretty easy to use and has some pretty simple combos and the hit confirms last forever allowing you to drive cancel very easily.

Ryo, very simple combos.

Mai also fits the bill, she relies more on zoning and footsies than combos.

normal (claw) Iori has some very easy basic combos, since his hit confirms are so simple.  His more advanced corner combos are still quite simple, as well.

Both Kyo and EX Kyo have been no problem for me.

I've heard a lot of people say Shen is an easy execution character although honeslty, I disagree. His command grab is very hard to execute and cancelling LP into his Super is not easy at all, in my opinion.

I'd personally say, Kyo/EX Kyo, Maxima, King and Vice.

Kim, Joe, EX/Kyo, EX/Iori, King, Ralf, Terry, among others. Just cause of how I use him, I'd put Kim at the top of the list, and EX Kyo at the top for characters I don't use (yet)

Want to add Mature to the list now. The links-to-rekkas seem really good, and she might have the best rekkas in the game.

Better than EX Kyo's?? :/

EX Kyo's got better advantages with his rekkas, but Mature's feel smoother at times. I'm sure it's a matter of preference for whoever mains them. When I get more playtime with both, I'll come back with a solid opinion.
