CALF

I had posted two of my beadsprites over in the Fan Art Gallery page earlier.  (CvS2 Iori and Yamazaki)  I've really loved the KoF characters since CvS2, but had never got into an SNK game other than at a very casual level until recently after purchasing KoFXIII.  I have played Garou and really liked that game.  Unfortunately for me my favorite characters, Yama, Geese and Freeman, are not in XIII.  I have been experimenting around and think I have decided on who I want to play first.  Mature, Ryo and Robert, or as I like to call them Team Karate Kid III Villains + Blonde Milf.  At this point the game is still very over my head, or at least it feels that way.  I understand the different jumps somewhat from playing N-Groove occasionally, but other functions of the game like auto-guard attacks, CD moves, and the level of meter management is very intense.  I live in SoCal (Long Beach) and would love to find people to play with since I understand that the netcode requires both opponents to have fiber optic connection to get the most out of it.  I do go to Wednesday Night Fights at Super Arcade as well.

welcome and shouts to Ryo/Robert teams.
I refer to them as John Kreese and Terry Silver.  Costume 5 for Ryo is even Cobra Kai colors. :D

Officially welcome CALF. Cobra Kai Ryo and Robert eh? Time to make Kensou a Daniel-san and Chin a Mr. Miyagi. Anyway, you'll be getting the hang of the game in no time with that kind of scene. As a Freeman lover, you might consider XIII Iori too; really close to that fighting style if you ask me.

I have also played with Claw Iori, but I like Mature more because she has the rekka.

I'm completely convinced that Ryo and Robert were based on John Kreese and Terry Silver.  I'm actually surprised that other people don't make that connection.  Ryo wears a gi with the sleeves ripped off and has bushy blonde hair, like John Kreese from the Karate Kid.  Robert is rich, has a pony tail, and drives a convertible, just like Terry Silver from The Karate Kid III.  Plus in The Art of Fighting they have those strength tests where you break ice blocks, which was in the Karate Kid II.  As crazy as I may sound, I am not some obsessed fan of the Karate Kid movies, but I am sure that AoF drew a lot of influence from them.

Welcome to DC CALF, make post you in the SoCal thread as well.

You mentioned you goto WNF, but did you ever goto TheRunBack?

Mr Bakaboy

Actually AOF fans have talked about the Karate Kid movies since AOF 1. It comes up more then you think it would. Problem nowadays is the newer blood isn't going to watch The Karate Kid movies as much since the martial arts movie explosion happened back in the mid 90's.  Nice to see players who still watch the classics.
Say it with me now: "Variable input lag BAAAAAAD!!!"

I actually just found out about TheRunBack this Wednesday.  I will be there next week.
