Cool video from the guy that sounds like that did the 2002UM master class videos. So far I've found Iori, Billy, Saiki, and another Kyo video. They are on the dc youtube, but they will be released once I get some translations soon.

This alternate guard thing is starting to worry me. Is it game-breaking? What are grapplers going to do about it? I think characters that rely heavily on grabs for opening up opponents in the corner/in their neutral game are kinda screwed.

Alternate guarding has been in KoF for a long time now. It's not really gamebreaking, persay. I mean, sure, it prevents the character from being thrown, but it doesn't make them invincible. Run a mixup on them. Throw in lows when they guard high. Generally, when an opponent is focusing on alternate guarding, they are thinking defensively, rather than offensively, so you don't have to worry about a counterattack as much. All it means is that your throw game can't be braindead. It's a good tool, but it can be exploited like everything else. Don't forget that characters can combo into their command throws in this game, so don't worry too much about it.

Fair enough. From the youtube video I saw, it seems that you just rapidly crouch/stand block after previously blocking an attack. If that's the case, how can one exactly land a hit if they just keep switching blocks? Do I just keep rushing and hope to land a hit? It might not be game-breaking, but it's obnoxious as hell.

You pretty much answered the question yourself. If you know they're going to switch block stance from high to low in rapid succession, then you know how predictably they are going to block, right? Mixups and stagger pressure. No one is going to sit in a corner and just alternate guard all day. If you're really that worried about it, watch any high level match videos, and I guarantee you, alternate guarding is very minimal. It's strong on paper, but you're overestimating its usefulness in the overall flow of combat.

Well in the video I watched, the opponent was alternating guards so fast I couldn't tell which was occurring. I'll take your advice though. I love the game too much to succumb to my fears about random game mechanics.

Apparently when someone is doing alternate guarding you can simply hit them with a low? With Raiden for example you could easily do  ;dn ;b;a;bk ;db ;dn ;df ;fd ;k for an easy throw. Or do you need to put in a  ;dn ;a before the  ;a? I don't play Raiden ha ha.

With that said, archives from NEC yesterday are up. It's part three of the archive: http://www.twitch.tv/8wayrun/b/301644345

Insane stuff.

Nice tutorial.

Did anyone check out the maniac combo vids yet? Mostly academic as they generally require full drive and 5 meters, but oh so entertaining. Craaaaazy death and stun combos for pretty much everyone.

Some nice combo parts takeaways on the real application side I suppose.

Dude, you're a page late! =P

Those combos were insane, though. So insane, I had to offer my own commentary on them.
