@Kof peeps: If you guys are cool with it, there's space on Sundays to run the ranbats. It might be possible to get the stream on iPlayWinner just like AE and MvC3. If you're not okay with Sunday, please let me know otherwise I will change it to Sunday. As it stands, it's still going to be Friday the 8th.

Few things I've had a problem with lately is doing a drag punch from down forward position or pretty much everything. With characters Terry in KoF, the timing for doing a standing C into a df.C is okay (though admittedly I've screwed it up in the heat of the moment.) What I have a problem doing is maybe a super, or even a qcf, qcb motion becomes difficult to get out. My greatest challenge is just holding the stick too hard. Feels like my hand is frozen in the motions and I can't do it.

The way I do things like Standing C, df.C, hcb B+D for Maxima is I tap down forward and let go. I quickly do the half-circle back and it'll connect. That works for Maxima, but things like Terry's burning knuckle or power wave have weird timing. What I'm trying to ask is: What's the best way to get a df.C into any follow up? Is letting the stick return to neutral the best?

If they can get AE and Marvel on the same day, that'd be great. I'm hoping we'll see more people come out. Our Norcal thread isn't getting much mention! I've already posted around to a couple sights so here's hoping our first ranking battle tournament goes off without a hitch.

Speaking of 13, I'm pretty psyched to see Billy in the mix, but I'm hoping for even more characters to be revealed or some more moves to be added.

A few edits have been made:

The tournament will be double-elimination and prizes will be handed out at the end of the season. I would like to run this every week, but we'll see from the first day if attendance permits it.

Training Room / Re: Precision practice with combos and movement
« on: June 17, 2011, 09:15:47 PM »
That was what I wanted to touch on and I agree with you, Omegaryuji. It's why I spend a great deal in training mode to improve my gameplay.

It does no help if you drop combos against someone and get punished for it. It's best to get the execution down before you put it into practice. Playing humans is much different than learning when to cancel or what to do if your move his blocked. These things don't require human interaction, but are better done with constant repetition.

Training mode for KoF XIII for example is very useful. You can set the dummy, for the first minute or so, to stand or crouch. Practice execution from midscreen, in the corner, paying attention to the rate it hits. I used to lack the ability to combo midscreen, but a lot of practice with timing has improved that ability.  From there, you can set the dummy to 1-hit guard. This will make it easier for you to see if you're linking it properly. For example, Terry's d.B, d.A, df.C can sometimes be blocked if you don't do it fast enough. If you tap the buttons too fast, it might not even register. It's just to check if you're linking properly. You finish off with practicing hit confirming. Using Terry again, I do his basic s.C, df.C, => into power wave or burning knuckle. If I do powerwave, I am safe on block. If I do burning knuckle and its unblocked, I get a free combo. This helps a lot with making you more reactive and thinking rather than following a string.

I get what you're saying, but I then develop a mindset where it's okay to panic and mash. If I do the combo a thousand times, I feel comfortable doing the combo. It took me a bit in training mode to get how to use K' and his BnB. Without it, I'd always get punished for dropping the combo or whiffing it.

Now, I'm trying to hit confirm with Terry. A lot of the time I'll do Close C, df. C, and have to do power wave if they block or burning knuckle. Can't just mash or guess otherwise I don't get the combo or I eat a combo off a blocked burning knuckle.

There's just topics better players can't teach me. They can teach me when my moves aren't safe or when they make mistakes how to capitalize on them, but I won't get the maximum damage if I can't link. Just a big trade off.

I feel your pain. I am making that transition too. I spend more money in training mode than I do against peeps. But the practicing helps me with my midscreen game since combos are more forgiving in the corner. Slower is faster.

Maxima / Re: Maxima
« on: June 15, 2011, 12:10:39 AM »
Sorry for the double post. I wanted to ask a bit about some footage I saw. I saw a player, acho I think, grab someone with a Maxima press. Instead of going for the follow up, he opted to let the opponent wall splat and roll behind him.

The avatar got back up, and just as he did, Maxima did a hop B. The player blocked, but the Maxima player landed and did d.A, d.B (hit), d.A into a EX vapor cannon. My question is what is the timing for this? How do I pull this off and if there are any visual cues or times I should take note of.

If I remember correctly, I played against Omegaryuji today at Southtown.

I just wanted to say hello and welcome to the arcade! I hope to see you more often and it was great playing against you. It'd be great to work together to improve in the game; let me know when you drop by! That goes for everyone in the area or who would like to come in. Make it a nice group gathering and we'll all get a lot out of it.

EDIT: Whoops! Wasn't him, but omito from Maryland.

For some reason, I block it initially, but when I try to move down, the explosion from when he hits the floor hits me too. Maybe it's just because I like to block low after an attack that I notice it, but it hurts if I move my guard.
