Hey guys, just wanted you to know that there's a mistake in the translation regarding Clark (dunno if this is so in the repost). I took another look at the blog when I saw EX SAB > Flashing Elbow > NM in the translation. This should be EX SAB > Flashing Elbow > Super Cancel

Now THAT will change Clark's gameplay especially with his buffed hop. We'll see if that's going to overpower Clark, but I like the change.

Something to keep in mind is that you can [SC] off the Ex Flash elbow, so even if you did the Step --> Flash Elbow, you can't [SC] which is fair.  Otherwise that's pretty scary with Guardpoint into [SC].

Also, at the bottom of the blog it says (I'll summarize instead of going line by line):
That's it for the first release with details on 8 chrs.
We think there'll be a lot of folks wondering "What about Raiden!?" "Why start with Hwa Jai!?"
In order to be fair, we used random select and chose the characters that came up first in that order (true story).
As such, no one knows who'll be included in the next post. If you want to hurry up and see the characters that you use, please pray to the gods of random select!

That's hilarious, I hope they get Chin next on Random.

Hahah, yeah - hoping for Joe/Ryo/Ralf (whom I use), but really interested in seeing Goro as he looks to be the mystery where folks who had a chance to play console saw almost no changes other than some damage buffing and what's on the first page of this thread.

Training mode in arcade is fine, but it makes a huge difference having some guidance as is the case w/ console.

CAN'T WAIT!

This is so true. I have a feeling that this will help me finally become a good KOF player.

Yeah fer sure. It's definitely going to help me. There's going to be a ton of stuff to do with the 1P mode, esp in story. As I understand it, it's three perspectives Ash's/Adel's/Heidern's and with Ash, you can choose all of the teams individually.

Getting HYPE!

Translation posted in Console thread! ^_^

So they made Mai's crouching C easier to cancel, and made Kachousen faster to attack and recover... maybe she'll be able to land the (  ;dn + ;b , ;dn + ;a (link) ;dn + ;c , Kachousen ) Combo mid screen now?

Very nice that they provided us with a visualization for a changelog! And they're actually showing stuff in practical situations, which gives a great idea of how it'll FEEL in a match, rather than just letting our minds wander with no visual reference... nice work SNKP.

Dunno if that would connect mid-screen (doubt it  :(), but at least there are now enough cancel frames on Mai's c. ;c for a hit confirm. She could already do  ;b, ;a Ryuenbu or Shinobibachi - standard confirm. As long as she's able to do what you say in the corner I'm happy  :)

Also with the addition of the  ;b> ;d target combo for HD startups and improved air game, I think she's going to be really fun to play (which is good, bc it's fun having her on the screen) and it better represents some of the really tricky stuff you could do from the air with her in other KOFs.

Some of the Clark changes strike me as a bit odd, though. Weak SAB has auto-guard, but EX SAB remains the same. Except EX SAB -> Flashing Elbow can be MAX canceled. But you can only MAX cancel in HD mode, and if you're in HD mode, why not just use his DM for the increased damage? I guess it's useful if you drop your combo, or just do standalone HD activation. I hardly ever see people use HD in that way, however.

My theory is that his 1 DM (UABB) Takes too long. This reduced the amount of combo-reps and overall damage he could land by moves, before going into the EXDM, as he needed to be able to have meter left at DM's end to Max Cancel.

By giving him a semi-DM (still takes 1 Bar) that he can MAX cancel out of, that's quicker to use, he essentially got a new DM/NM combo, and a buff to his overall end-game threat potential.

You normally cannot cancel the same move into itself in HD mode, right? So this new cancel for Gattling attack is quite unique. It's a nice replacement of his old ( ;c , ;df + ;a , ;df + ;a.... ) combo from XII, and it keeps opponents grounded, for that EX grapple into NM!

Fixed double post -Kane317

I think it's there's something lost in translation but I read it as you can [SC] off the Ex Elbow, then [MC] out of it.  Technically, if you do a NM off a special in [HD], it's just a [HDC] right?  [MC] is reserved from specifically a (Ex) DM into NM.

Good eye Kane, check out my previous post.

ZOMFG - just took a look at the vid after 1:31:30

Yeah good points are made here. After seeing Kabal just DESTRUCTING Sonya (and others), I think the 'perceived' lowest tier KOF characters have a much better chance of OCV'ing a K'/Raiden/Shen team than making Kabal break a sweat. \(O.o)/

Do we have a complete list of mid-air moves that characters can do while back-dashing like Maxima's air vapor cannon?

I heard XIII is a bit more limited in this respect compared to other KOFs.

Actually, what air moves cannot be done during a back-dash?

I think tutorial mode is pretty well made from what I can tell. I like the fact that the easier combos scale to more experienced players where you can add in as many extra hits/juggles as you like as long as you complete what's in the requirements while doing so.

Training mode in arcade is fine, but it makes a huge difference having some guidance as is the case w/ console.

Was just wondering as some time has passed. Is anyone still working on a video?  :)

I think it would be pretty cool if we had a remake of the DandyJ vid with KOF XIII sprites whilst adding in XIII specifics at the same time as well. I understand if no one wants to take that on right away seeing how useful the DandyJ vid still is.

I also agree that it would be good to have a chr specific compilation. DDTC and SNKP's own vids are good combo resources and showcases, but they don't cover frequently used tactics for each character. Use this move in this situation and the EX in this situation type of commentary would be awesome.

So true; her voice was very annoying back then, but not as annoying as my dumb brothers insisting that Yashiro's  ;dn ;db ;bk;k is more annoying than that. They also say that K''s  ;dn ;db ;bk;k is more annoying too (that I might believe).

"SHADAAAAH!! SHADAAAH!!", gotta agree that that's sort of up there.

Like SAB mentions, the voice characterizations in all of the hit SNK titles are hell good I must say. Just about everyone stinks of personality unlike a good number of other fighters I can think of. What's nice about Japan is the sheer number of game/anime VAs that are available. SNK though seems to pay particular attention to the voices which seems obvious considering the very minimal amounts of VA overlap across the typically large cast of KOF characters.

As far as KOF goes, Iori I think is by far one of the best. Love the evil laugh Flame Iroi has for his NM.

One archetype that doesn't please me so much is the 'high-pitched madman' type voice. This would be Hwa in KOF, Freeman in GMOTW, and Mukuro in LB2. That sort of voice tends to work better with smaller scrappier characters like with Choi where I think it fits.

Duo-Lon's/Ash's/Clark's to break down guard

FYI Clark's NM isn't a command throw and hence, it's blockable.

That's right... (edited out of post)

The thing is though is that how many characters really have a workable NM that can really do something outside of HD mode?  There's not a ton.  On top of that, the risk/reward is not that great.  Losing all your HD gauge and then 3 Bars of Super Gauge for essentially a guess outside of HD mode.  If you hit, yeah, you get great damage, but whiff and you're a sitting duck.  Outside of utilities and punishes, it's not that great of an option outside of HD mode.

I agree with everything here. It would have to be for finishing a character off (not just for damage) in a utility type situation as you should be using HD for most punishes and any combos (much of the time in the last round).

Ex.
Kyo's vs a fb
Ryo's/Iori's against a jump-in
Duo-Lon's/Ash's to break down guard
Joe's to go for hell chipping
(I personally would not risk doing a Goro or Elizabeth NM as a stand-alone)

Yeah, you pretty much said it all.

if he's as worked out as EX XI kyo but with EX moves that'll be some triple X shit. if they find a way to make EX mr karate different and interresting than these 3 will by far be the best worked out EX characters in a kof. normality EX characters lack moves and get shit like full screen fb's, now they are more fleshed out than ever.

Yeah, agree. EX chrs in the past have been nice to have, but have all been lacking in polish. Hopefully with SNKP trying to do everything right, they'll be decent like Iori turned out to be. I'd be happy w/ something like NGBC Kyo.

Bio:
Alex's arcade doesn't have a strong enough internet connection to stream, and Little Tokyo has not done it AFAIK.  Family Fun Arcade, last I check, does not permit recording.

Thanks Kane, that's too bad,  :)
All the same, was great seeing you guys at Southtown (I hear it's a 6hr+ drive) Fixed. -Kane317
