I think backdash with Athena is one of the strongest openers in the game. It gives her so many options and is pretty safe to do. I started using her again and I'm sorry I strayed from the light.

You should just quit your job, so much hype happens after you leave. Close matches, dropped combos everywhere.

Well to be fair this date was picked first and the place in Davis announced their tourney. I'm gonna be at this one for sure. AE is definitely getting more love since it was officially announced for consoles.

Yuri Sakazaki / Re: Yuri Sakazaki

No I didn't cause I didn't care enough to look it up. I don't even remember where I read that so whatever I definitely can be wrong.

Yuri was first playable in Art of Fighting 2 (1994). Dan was in Alpha 1 (1995). Sakura was in Alpha 2 (1996). So it's certainly plausible that it's the other way around. Dan is most definitely a parody of SNK characters for sure.

Edit: So back to what's really important, I remember seeing a video where the dive kick can cross up on wake up. Is this a big part of her game? Kind of like how Sakura is fairly dependent on her 50/50 game.

So is anyone from SoCal actually thinking about showing up for the tourny? It's not gonna be that big I think because there's gonna be another one going down that same a few hours away. I think that one is going to be bigger cause it has that Marvel.

Yeah I learned that the hard way haha. I'll spend some time getting this down tomorrow, thanks!

You know I sometimes just sit and stare at how good the banner is. The only way to make it better is to get Athena up there.

I didn't know Goro could block Shen Paunch. No one uses him here so that explains why. I really need to learn a different style to mix things up. Lately i just turtle like crazy until I get a clean hit and then I usually end up backing off and turtling again. It works, kind of but my defense is awful so it makes no sense that I'm playing him like this haha. I know the theory of how to rush down with Shen but I can't apply it for some reason.

Then again I guess a strong defense is what leads to a more solid player. Some stuff I try to use is like Far C, d.C, qcf+A, j.CD, st.A, and GCAB to get out. Depending on the type of jump in I end up using different things. In general as I play I forget to use more than one type of anti air and I start leaning towards d.C and st.A. My biggest problem is if I get put in the corner. I end up blocking all day and then slipping up and eating a giant combo. I really need to remember to CD out or roll or something. That one meter is definitely good for getting them off and letting me take control of the flow of the match.

Wow, why did I just write all that haha. Does anyone have suggestions for an HD combo I can use when I am in the corner? I try to use the qcf+D [DC] qcf+C, qcf+A one. I forget who made that popular but that doesn't work if I'm in the corner. What I'm thinking is I can do qcf+D [DC] qcf+C(charge) [DC] qcf+D. Would looping that work?

From what I read, they created Yuri to parody Sakura and then Capcom responded by making Dan haha.

Haha just playing VF with friends. It's all good since none of us plan to be any good. Okay we can get some games in cause I'm at school pretty late on Fridays and I usually show up on Sat to get my training room on. There's been this one dude trying to get into KoF and I usually help him out a bit on Sat.

Ah tomorrow's not a good day for me haha. I have class from 9-1 and 2-3 so I'll only be down there from 1-2. Got stuffs to do after too but I'm sure you'll find some people to play against.

I think we have a very healthy attitude towards newcomers haha. None of us straight whoop on newcomers. The only people I play seriously against are mashers who move the whole CP. Like when someone new comes to play I'll ask if it's okay if I play, pick chars I don't usually play, and offer advice to them afterwards.

@jts If you have to make an hour drive to get here let me know when you come. I'm sure the few of us who play will make an effort to be there if you are gonna travel that far.

I thought about that. Usually SF4 brings like 20+ people with some of them being F Champ, Ricky Ortiz, John Choi and the likes. However how many of them would actually play in the KoF tourny?
