Hey guys. What kind of fight sticks or pads does everyone use? Any pics? I have a few sticks I use. Any cool custom art? Any ideas on what you would like on one? Please share! I'll post some pictures in a few hours.

I would love a King of Fighters stick or a SNK stick. I would love to have this on one. If I mod one this would be on it.

I have a chun li te stick and a mayflash fightstick. They are quite different but have their qualities. Anyways, i think the kof xii stick was a mayflash stick and i wouldn't mind if they used the same brand for xiii.
Here's my collection:

The NeoGeo stick with the orange balltop is a PS2 model. The NG stick next to it is one of the 2 PS3/PC NeoGeo sticks I own. I found them both at a discount and it's great when I bring KOF to SF gatherings to provide the exact same sticks to new players. I own 1 NeoGeo pad for PS2 and 2 for PS3. My wife prefers the NeoGeo pad. The HRAP3 with Kyo is my main stick. It has Seimitsu clear buttons and a Seimitsy LS-56 stick. The buttons are arranged in the default SNK layout. The blue NeoGeo themed stick is a gutted MadCatz SE that has a hacked PS2 pad inside. The Iori stick is a current project. It's a gutted Hori Wii stick which will be PS2 pad hacked soon. It uses the Hori stick which I've added Omron switches to and Seimitsu ultra flat buttons. Not pictured: 1 Hori Wii stick, 1 NeoGeo stick for Wii and 1 MadCatz TvC stick with Sanwa parts.

Amazon is one of the best places to purchase one
(http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/1827/hrapv3samaixiii.jpg)
This is a montage. It's a Hrapv3-sa with a seimitsu LS-40-01 stick (red stick, white ball). Mai's picture is made by me, I'm printing it right now. When I have finished it, I will take a picture to show you the result.

Not sure if you have a Wii but the Gameshark store online has a deal if you buy one Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom stick you get one free. The stick is not amazing but will get the job done. Your local gamestop should have the Street Fighter 4 regular stick or TE. They will run you about $50 for regular ad $130 for TE. But online is your best bet. Amazon has some good sticks for cheap. They are selling the Tekken 6 stick with the game for around $60. If you can spare some cash the Madcatz Tournament sticks are the way to go for me at least.

That's some amazing art you have on there. I'm looking forward to seeing it finished. What are you using to apply the art to the stick with?

I'm going to go on a digital printing house and I will show them the default material of the art of the stick and will ask them to use the same for my print (I guess is some kind ofd adhesive paper). I guess they will have it or at least something very similar.

I'm still sticking with this pad since May. I can't afford a stick so I will check out the pdp mvc 3 controller or the neo geo pad if SNKP decide to release it with XIII *finger crossed*

Hey guys, how it's the HORI EX 2 stick?
Will work for 2002, 98, or marvel and HD REMIX?
I heard the hori ex 2 stick is crap
My trusty PS2 controller, that I bought from Gamestop (pre-owned) has started fail when I pressing buttons. D-pad works well, but shorst jumps in KOF are damn hard to do, but the face buttons aren't that responsive anymore.
So, I decided to get arcade stick. It should work on PS2 (for training and playing with friends) and PC (if I start using GGPO) and price must be that low, about 30 euros is enough, but if it is over 30, then I have to consider. And if I order a stick from internet, it should be from Europe, because stuff moves more easily thorugh customs.
After a bit searching, I found one contender. It is Logic3 Arcade controller and it looks like this
(http://cdon.fi/media-dynamic/images/product/00/10/13/71/30/3/ae4ef412-c8ba-41c8-ad73-d9694fe9664c.jpg)
Description: Experience the intensity of an arcade machine in your own home! If the standard PS3, PS2 or PC controller is not giving you the extra edge for those beat-em-up games perhaps the Logic3 Arcade Controller will better suit you're fighting needs.
The Arcade Controller has an eight way directional joystick and ten action buttons. Its soft touch rubber finish brings the authentic arcade feeling back to the classic arcade games. Its turbo - fire switch is great for shooting games or when your button bashing away trying to pull of the ultimate combo.
* Arcade style controller
* 8 Way directional controller / 10 action buttons
* Turbo fire function
* Macro Function
* Soft touch rubber finish
* Compatible with PS3, PS2 & PC
So, what do you think? Cheapest price 41 euros and most expensive is 52 euros.
I have a stick from the chinese company mayflash, It's called mayflash arcade fighting stick. It's cheap, should be about 40 euros, it is good, though not perfect (then again, comparing prices, it gives you alot for its relatively low cost) and is compatible with ps2/ps3/pc and is supposed to work with 360 and wii with the help of adapters. Though why a usb device should need an adapter to work with a 360 is beyond me..
Still, this stick seems to have gained some popularity, and i could recommend it as a good starter stick. I still feel that in some ways it's better than my madcatz TE stick, even though the overall quality is lower and it has gotten worn with use. But with that said, within a year of buying it i noticed that it had started to get a bit worn, some buttons started to squeak a bit oddly and on rare ocations seem to react twice to button presses. It is however still very much functional though i usually just have it lying on a shelf untill i have a reason to bring it out.
http://www.mayflash.com/pc/pc042/pc042.htm
It is available from atleast one swedish store although i don't know if they ship to the rest of europe. You can probably find it in a store in your country if it interests you.
Personally i bought mine from play-asia, though that came back and bit me in the ass. The stick was very cheap but i had to fork up twice its cost for shipment and toll.

I've heard of that Mayflash stick. Unfortunately, only Finnish store that sells those doesn't have them anymore. That Logic3 controller is only stick compatible with PS2/PS3/PC that you can find in Finland. Sweden doesn't use euro, so I guess if I order I have to use credit card.
If I order from Play-Asia, they only deliver packages to Finland using delivery services, so that is very expensive. They deliver packages to Finland using UPS (Universal Packet Smashers), so no thanks. I try to avoid ordering from abroad at all costs.
Guess I have to go with that Logic3 controller then. What I've heard, it is quite good controller and good for beginners.

Yeah it's not original artwork. He just found it online and put it on there. I bought it off of him as is, said if I ever wanted to change the artwork I would just need to send him the image. Too lazy to pick one though =P Right now that stick it out of commission sadly

that stick is so wrong ... i had one similar and you can t play shit with it especially kof.it's better to raise some money and buy at least a madcatz SE stick or make one yourself but not that garbage...
Man all I have is a stock TE. I did pick up a Dreamcast MAS stick today for 20 bucks though! :)
wow great score! Where did you get it from?
the madcatz blazblue tournament edition is worthy?
I want a TE, but I don't want to spende 400 dollars for a stick, the BB te costs me 200
I want to get a MadCatz BB TE too, so far i heard it's basically the same as the SFIV Tournament Edition, but with different art and limited to 1500 units per system. So yes, i guess it's worthy.
More info about that will be appreciated.

Do we have spoilers option in the forum? because i can't find it :\
And BTW sibarraz, where are you getting that BB TE stick? is it the PS3 version? i was trying to get one from Amazon but it's sold out, same with a lot of other sites.
nup, 360, it seems that those are not that popular
I found amazon and gamestop, but I must hurry up, problem is I don't know how much will increase the price if I export it
Yup, you better hurry up if you are going to get one.
I thought amazon was going to have the PS3 version in stock for a good while, but suddenly it went sold out like yesterday :(.
Good luck.
still with some doubts about it, I need to pay it with 3-4 payments
My current stick:
I have a modded hori stick and 2 more TE sticks.
At the moment, I'm working on a 2nd dual modded KOF TE stick with the following artwork: http://amedos310.deviantart.com/art/The-King-of-Fighters-203287387
I want to get my first fight strick, and im not willing to pay for anything higher than a 100 bucks, so far looking through videos on youtube I narrowed my choice to SF IV SE stick and T6 fight stick, from what I got is that their both bad and they have some good things about them. I am willing to mod if I can get the parts. T6 is nearly impossible to mod. I want a stick to at least be durable to last at most a year.
Any suggestions
If you need a PS3 stick, this one is quite nice for $100: http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Real-Arcade-Fighting-Stick-3/dp/B001GDQRZM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1303136909&sr=8-2. Otherwise, you should probably get a Mad Catz SE and then mod it with either Sanwa or Seimitsu parts. The SE is very easy to mod.
Not sure if anybody is good with photoshop, but I was thinking maybe we should do a dc.com template for the TE sticks. What do you guys think?
I'm a graphic designer so I can do that. I'll get started once i have some time.

Digging that custom art on the TE S. Do you play KoF like that, Amedo? With the four top row buttons? I tried before but it feels so weird. I can't even play RB2 or Garou like that or how it was originally in the arcades I have to set it up like Blazblue for RB2 and have D on the bottom row and then for Garou/KoF do it with the Tekken setup and just use the first four buttons. Dunno, using thumb or pinky feels strange to me.

Totally on board with this idea
Designing a stick template is a unique project for me. I keep the designs simple because I feel the stick and buttons should either be part of the design or need to be designed around. I hate seeing sticks protruding from character's faces or chests so I try to use graphics that wrap nicely around the physical parts. You will notice this in this post: http://dreamcancel.com/forum/index.php?topic=577.msg9637#msg9637

I really don't play that button style. I might learn to play it one day, just not now. The layout is just to show homage to SNK neogeo cabinets.

Nilcam, I have done a few wallpapers that were inspired by those stripe designs: http://amedos310.deviantart.com/gallery/.
Also I'm sure you can make a better use of some of the images used from the KOF Character Encyclopedia so here's where I found the scans: (Yahoo Search: "KOF Character Enciclopedia Parte 1")

Hey Nilcam, can you make one with the .com after the dc log and maybe add some snkp, taito and KOF XIII logos at the bottom. thanks :). Also can the character be Elizabeth.
EDIT: First 6 buttons only please.
Any suggestions for a budget stick compatible with both PS2 and PS3? I'm quite unfamiliar with sticks, but I've heard Mayflash makes such a stick. I'm in Canada, if that influences things at all.
Your best bet is to get a PS2 stick or padhack a PS2 controller that way you can get adapters for all of the other systems.

A little on topic and it for those Fightsticks!

Interesting. Very cool business idea though i wonder how much demand there will really be for this product. I just sit with my stick in my lap and it would just be weird for me to adapt to this (or so i assume). Still, hope this goes well because you have to respect the idea.

WAIT WAIT, WH-WH-WHAT?!!?!? Shame on you holding out on me Nilcam!
Btw, did you ever get that wireless stick fixed?
I've had this project in the works for a long time. It was originally going to be an Iori stick with a pink solid background and magenta buttons. All of this talk of having Dream Cancel sticks so I changed it up.
The buttons are navy blue Seimitsu shallow buttons. The innards are a solderless padhacked PS1 controller and the case is a Hori Wii stick.

Another awesome design; I've never seen that art with Kensou before. Official or fan-made?
Looks good, nilcam. Maybe interchange the rims of the buttons to white ones to match the dustwasher? Heh, makes me want to mod my TE again.
That's official art from KOF Neo Wave.

Awesome stick design.

These buttons are not available in white, otherwise I would have done that. The case is so shallow that only the really small Seimitsu buttons (PS15) fit. I have a black washer on the way but I like the white so I may keep it. It ties the design together nicely. Considering the placement of the 5th button, Kensou's pose was too perfect.

I bet that that Kensou is from Neowave. It has the most horrible artstyle ever in a KOF game. Only 2001 rivals that game.

Ahh, PS-15's. I've never had the chance to use any of those in my mods. How do you like them? Do they feel the same as PS-14's? The only difference being that their bodies are shorter, correct?

Just to shows that art is subjective, I love the 2001 art style and the Neowave is pretty good as well. In certain cases, specifically Vanessa, I prefer her 2001 look to her XI look.
As for PS-15s, I love them. They feel like all of the other Seimitsu buttons.
I used Cherry microswitches on the stick but I need to figure out how to tighten the stick. It feels too Sanwa and I prefer the slightly tighter Seimitsu feel.

Aren't PS-15's Seimitsu? I believe the Sanwa equivalents to the PS lineup are the OBSF-30's (though more like the 14's, and not 15's, in height).
As for the stick tightening, what kind of stick is it, and have you tried replacing the spring? They usually sell stiffer springs separately or you could grab one from another type of stick. I, too, prefer the tighter Seimitsu feel.
Have you ever had any experience with optical sticks? I've been meaning to try one out, but I hear they go kinda wonky after a while.
They are Seimitsu. I shouldn't type before breakfast.
I'm using the stock Hori stick because the case is too short to accommodate other sticks. I replaced the Hori switches with Cherry microswitches.
I have no experience with optical sticks.

The VLX will give you a hernia, true story. One of the local guys has it.
I have a new stick project started. I won't have the PCB in until the end of the month, but I'm super excited. I'll post photos as soon as it's done.
I saw that some store was selling that Tekken 6 arcade stick for PS3. It cost 44 euros and I've heard it is possible to coonect it to PC. Is it a good stick or should I search something better?

I haven't personally played on that joystick but I hear the stick is closer to the buttons than the TE is, so if you have big hands it might be a problem.

I have this Hori Real Arcade Pro V3 SA (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0041SGD44/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B002FL0T8U&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1TETZ4E0V2835GKZVQ1Y) which I believe is the PS3 counterpart and it's fine. Only improvements I would make is to make the entire joystick heavier and quieter (I know ppl modded it to do so).
Yeah it feels really light, but I still find it to be my favorite arcade stick so far. I wish I knew someone that could mod it for me for other consoles.
So yeah, should i Pick it?
My hands are relative small, but I can't see how mucho does than influentiate
If you don't mind paying the price for it, then buy it. I like them over any Madcatz sticks.
Hay guys I have a few questions for yall, I'm going to get my stick made by this guy http://www.b15sdmdesigns.com/
So I was looking to get some good examples of art for him, I'm looking for cool art of K9999,Nameless,Benimaru,Leona,Duo Lon,and Anji Mito. I'm going to chose the theme of the stick depending on the art. Anyway I'm looking to do a full semetsu mod for the stick, I already know that i want a 6 semetsu button layout but I don't know about the stick, I know I want a square gate but its hard to do kof movements on a square gate but i need one because i play Vega in SF. I don't like to ride the gate nor do I like bat tops, so happ and Korean sticks are out of the question(but if you can convence me to use a happ or Korean stick then i migh change my mind). I really want a semetsu stick but don't know which one to get and which one will make kof easier, I play KOF,SF,BBCS2 and Tekken at a high lv so I really want to get the perfect stick for all those games.
Which Seimitsu stick depends on the tightness and throw you prefer. Seimitsu LS-32 is slightly stiffer and has a shorter throw than Sanwa JLF. Seimitsu LS-56 is much tighter and has an extremely short throw. I prefer the LS-56 as I find hopping and hyper hopping to be much easier on that stick.
well i don't want it to be to loose but Idk how tight i want it, I know I don't want the 32, I'm looking in to the 40 and the 52, it dependso on how hard it is to back dash cancle in T6 with the stick
Keep in mind that you can always replace the spring to suit your tension preferences.
Maybe u guys can help me out. I have an old TE stick that i had dual modded with a cuthulu board, but i think the boards are all messed up as none of it works. There a dual board that i can easy swap in and replace all the old cpu components?
I am thinking of buying the Real Arcade Pro Premium VLX for the PS3.Did anyone had any problems with this stick and is it pc compatible without too much hassle?
@KBlackNoah: I don't know much about that stick but my Hori Real Arcade Pro is plug and play on Windows so I would assume the same is true of the VLX.
@Phoenixazure: There's the PS360+ but it won't be out for a few months.
That stick better make me coffee in the morning too ...for how much money i pay for it! LOL
The stick arrived today.Damn!!!! i tought i will call it a cheap overpiced piece of shit but man this is the best thing ever.i can barely take my eyes off of it it when i am in the room LOL
compared to the madcatz te...madcatz is a baby's toy - still, both are good sticks - but the vlx is perfection.

that viewlix stick is really beautiful, congrats man
It's cheaper to make a case like that yourself out of wood / fiberglass / plastics.
It uses the same parts as a TE. How is it better, like, at all?
To me it's just an overpriced stick that could be manufactured and created for half the price. Hell, even one third the price. You can probably make the case for $30, rip the board from a SE, and order parts online for ~$40. Way cheaper for the same product.
Oh, and the position of the start button is seriously ugly.

Well go right ahead and make yourself one and put it head to head with a vlx (if you do not have the tools i guarantee making a custom replica of this stick would cost you almost the same). For a buget price the te stick is a good stick like i said but compared with the vlx it feels cheap.Play with it for 1 minute and you won't want to touch another stick again.Hell you can play with a pad or a home made stick or even a keyboard and that's fine.+ i won't be buying another stick ever and if i decide to sell it one day i will get some real moneyz.
Hell, even one third the price? LOL you will be selling those like crazy but man you are off your rocket.
@sibarraz
thanks
Explain how Sanwa parts that the stick you bought for $300 is better than a TE, that uses Sanwa parts too.
You can make a case out of fiberglass for like $40 bro. Case + SE board + Sanwa parts = $100 - $180
$300 > $180
$180 = Better.

lol you know nothing on about making arcade sticks or quality of a stick you haven't even touched.
Spoiler about artwork on arcade sticks.
Artwork is either really generic or printed a little larger to have it still look good if the art is misaligned.
Also the warranty kicks ass on the VLX as long you don't open the black box you're allowed to do what ever you want to. cut a hole for a RJ-45, use a different pcb, disconnect the turbo pcb, and switch out buttons you're allowed to do it as long you don't open up that black box.
As for the best stick it is Sega's HSS-0130.
The HSS-0130 for the sega saturn is so hard to find and expensive...maybe one day i ll find one at a decent price. That is the only stick besides the vlx i am willing to spend some good money on.
HEY GUys, I will buy an stick, but I can't decide between the MC ROUND2 TOURNAMENT EDITION or a HORI REAL ARCADE PRO.VX SA
Depends what you want to do with the arcade stick. For just sitting around and playing either one will do just fine.
mmm, I seriosuly doubt that I will move them to tournaments, but I want something that feels like it will not broke as soon as I play with it, at least that happened to me with the tekken 6 stick
Both are good sticks and won't break easily.Just choose the one you like. The only difference is that the hori stick has the buttons and stick a bit closer to each other (some people say it's annoying but it's just preference/you can adapt - i have big hands and play it with no problems). If i were you i would go with the hori :)
Also the hori is compatible with pc with no problems, as for the madcatz you need a VIA chipset usb board or something to make it work (my TE stick doesn't work on my new laptop because of that stupid shit).
Here's my sticks -
(http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/n504/RunningWild1984/sticks.png)
I mainly use the Namco Arcade Stick on my laptop using a USB converter, while I use the original TE on my PS3. I would use the Sega Virtua Stick High Grade, but a PCB problem that is apparent on many of the earlier models prevents the stick from properly detecting 3 simultaneous button presses.
Also I have a Hori Fighting Commander 3 that I use exclusively for Mortal Kombat -

I love the Virtua Sticks, especially the ones with the straight stacked 3x3 button layout, and five buttons on the bottom row. Not like the Mad Catz sticks that have a weird angle on the 3x3 stack that you need to play with two left hands.
If I had a machine shop handy I'd pull the face plate off my Mad Catz and make a plate with the Virtua Stick layout.

Mad Catz and Hori sticks both have less-than-universal PC compatability. Hori sticks tend to be slightly more likely to work (although I used to have a PS3 Round 2 TE and currently have a X360 Round 2 TE modded to work on PS2 and PS3 as well, and I've never had a problem using either of them on windows PCs), but if you're going to be using the stick primarily on PC, I'd suggest making sure you can get your money back in case it doesn't work.
In general, HRAPs and TEs are about equally good in terms of stick/button quality, but if there's little/no price difference, I'd recommend the HRAP VX SA over a Round 2 because the layout is a little more comfortable for playing on your lap.
Actually, I already had an stick pc with happ parts, but if the thing could work in a PC too, it will be very cool

anyone know where i can get some good art for B15 to make my stick. I'm looking for Klonoa art. I see people with all this great art for their stick but I can never find any site for art.

It's only really worthwhile to Bondo if you reinforce the backing. Otherwise it'll probably just crack or crumble from wear and tear. Have you thought of just ordering a custom plate? You could check out Art's Hobbies for that. I'm pretty sure they have a plate template for Astro City. I also like the Astro City layout myself.

Yeah, if you're not used to playing on a stick (or even JP parts), I can understand how everything might feel pretty sensitive. Personally, I like Seimitsu parts over Sanwa parts in my sticks simply because Sanwa parts generally feel
too sensitive to me. I feel like they could activate even if I breathed on them lol

The buttons might seem weird first days. Before i played on sanwa i used to have a cheap stick and to make the buttons work you had to push all the way down. With sanwa with only a gentile touch it takes the command (i would compare this with wearing a pair of heavy boots in the winter and in spring when you take a lighter pair of shoes you can barely walk like a normal man LOL).Just give it a week and you will see improvements.Sanwa are very durable - i still have the first set of buttons on my TE stick and they work like day 1 and i mashed them like crazy LOL.have fun with your new stick :) and practice every day
Thanks, I wll do that, I also had problem with QCF and QCF x2

have you ever played on a stick before or.. how long you last played on a stick? It s normal to have problems with execution if you haven t played a long time. Some people say an octagonal gate is better for those movements...but i like square gate because i have more precision.
Give it a week to accommodate like i said
Yeah, it can be a little weird getting used to a stick for the first time. I remember constantly ending up with accidental tiger knees when I was trying to do low tiger shots with Sagat years ago *laughs* . If you have a way to see your inputs displayed, spend some time using that and just practicing doing basic motions (qcf, dp, dashing, hcb~f, etc.), trying to do them without any extra inputs. Remember to practice the motions facing both ways, too! I know that sounds obvious, but a LOT of people overlook it and then cry that they can't dash to the left or something. It's alright to "ride the gate" (push the stick as far as it can go) at first, but you'll want to eventually be able to do motions with as little movement as possible.
As far as gates, it's pretty much personal preference. I like square the most since it gives you precise diagonals (good for command normals like Kyo's d/f+D) and it has less maximum movement than octagonal, plus most arcades with japanese setups that I've been to are square gates, as well as most japanese sticks (if can you ever need to borrow someone else's).

Give it a week to accommodate like i said
I hadn't played with a stick for like a year at this point, college took tons of my time and I couldn't go to the ARCADES
that being said, with my happ competion for PC i was playing 3 months and I didn't had any of this problems
Well, second day, and I'm doing better, I don't know if the first day I was afraid to break the stick or what, but now I could pull motions more fluidly, and don't lnow why, but comboing jump normals is way more easy with stick than with a pad
I will try some combos in 98, my favorite basic combos like ex yuri with 2b, 2a, and one of her 2 DM are working well, but with kim I had problems comboing 5c, 6a, DM, only in the first player side, in the second one I could pull it well.
this is not my first time using an stick, but is the first time in a wayu long time
here some pics

As a collector's item they are pretty cool (i recommend buying this for collectors if you find it at a decent price - The King of Fighters Orochi Collection [Limited Edition] - the package also includes the game) but they are cheaply made and don t offer to much stability for play.If you need a stick to play avoid this. With this money you could buy a hori pro or a madcatz te

@ nilcam
I think you said you have a Garou: Mark of the Wolves neo geo stick 2 - can you post a picture of that? Someone made me a sweet offer :)
I used to have a Neo-Geo Stick 2, the 1st edition one. Worked really nicely for RB2 with it's layout, but I've since gotten rid of it and adapted to using the Namco Stick, I doubt I can ever go back.
I really wanted that Garou Neo-Geo Stick though... few years ago a dude offered to sell me one for cheap, almost kinda wish I went for it.
Here's the Garou stick:
I love the form factor and layout of the NeoGeo stick. I've gutted one and replaced the buttons with 24mm Seimitsus and will put a PS360+ board in it when that arrives.
Well i thought of showing off my sticks here(:P). The HRAP3s have custom paint and there guts swapd for sixaxis with adapters. And the custom HAPP was made by me and my uncle(who I <3 very much), and thats about it.

Thanks!..i couldn't find a pic anywhere on internet.Stick looks very nice - tho i do not plan to modify it because it's pretty hard to play with it at my max level, just for collection :)
The garou stick is pretty good, i own one as well and use it as one of my main sticks.
I always wondered why AES owners preferred the Neo stick and after playing on one for the past year i can understand why.

lol you know nothing on about making arcade sticks or quality of a stick you haven't even touched.
Spoiler about artwork on arcade sticks.
Artwork is either really generic or printed a little larger to have it still look good if the art is misaligned.
You know nothing on about making sentences or properly forming you haven't tried.
I'm pretty sure making a stick like that wouldn't be that difficult so long as you have the materials / tools. My god all you need to do is heat seal plastics together, and add other misc parts (hinges, etc) to make it a full imitation. It could EASILY be done in only a few days for less than half the price.
I wasn't talking about the artwork, the layout of the buttons are terrible and badly aligned for actual play. Of course some people like that straight-line layout, but it's unconventional for mostly everybody. I realize that artwork is printed a tad larger than the stick itself so it won't look incorrect if the art is misaligned. If it's misaligned though, the company should get the machine fixed.

GTFO with that.
Also, The VLX and TE use the same layout.

The HSS-0130 for the sega saturn is so hard to find and expensive...maybe one day i ll find one at a decent price. That is the only stick besides the vlx i am willing to spend some good money on.
Last time I checked the HSS-0130 is very similar in pricing to a VLX. Has it gone up since then?
Quote from: jedpossum on July 21, 2011, 04:20:57 AM
The VLX and TE use the same layout.
VLX has way less curvature, which is uncomfortable for many users fingers. Also, the start button should never be right next to the buttons unless it has an off button for the start, which it doesn't. Oh, and why is the headset port on the front? WORST LAYOUT EVER.
The only difference between a VLX and a TE, aside from the fact that the VLX is ugly as shit, and twice the price is the fact that the VLX can be opened up easier. It still breaks the warranty doing that. From the official site. "HORI is not responsible for any damages or failure to the product or parts if customized or if the top plate has been opened."
VLX. You pay for a quick-open modification panel that still breaks the warranty, a shitty layout, oversized body, and Sanwa parts.

Every person I know who's ever played on a VLX has not complained about the layout at all probably because the layout is the same. I'll change my mind on this if you can procure an image with measurements showing otherwise. The start button is where it is on pretty much every single cabinet for the player 1 side. I don't see people accidentally taunting left and right because they're hitting start by accident. Not going to comment on the headset port because I never paid attention to it.

I didn't realize that size and what material the body of the stick is made of did not matter at all. I guess playing on a tupperware stick is the same as using a TE so why don't we all just use that? Since the VLX is made to look like the Vewlix control panel that means the Vewlix is ugly as shit as well. Why is that the most expensive and sought after cab with people ordering custom kits just to replicate it. Of course it's going to void warranty if you do that, what company is going to say "Hey open up the product and do whatever you want inside of it! If you screw up we'll cover you no sweat!"

@Demoninja
Stop arguing with that bufon..he never played a vlx.The only difference when it comes to the layout between a vlx and the te stick is that the distance between the buttons is a bit larger (the vlx has teh same layout but the buttons are a bit closer to each other and to the stick). You can find pictures on the internet with the layout and you can compare them very easy even if you do not own a vlx.
But really now you can't compare a vlx with a te stick.

I play regularly on my stick (TE) and my friends' sticks (various TEs and Horis), and each model does feel slightly different different, though they're all similar enough to be comfortable. Hell, if anything, I think the TE is the least comfortable of the lot, even though it's what I'm always practicing on *laughs*
Man, this thread makes me want to do something with the art on my TE. I mean, it'd make more sense if it showed a game that I actually played, plus it could be an excuse to spend a bit more to get a new top panel with an astro city layout.
First intelligent person to attempt to argue that the VLX is good.
Thank god that all VLX users aren't retards.

Fairly certain that they're not using much more than other companies. They're probably using similar, if not the same plastics used in the TE. If not, test the tensile properties of both of the plastics and get the results.
Earlier one of the users stated that it would still be covered if you open up the panel to mod it. That was just to state he's wrong, really.
Vewlix == Cab
VLX == Stick
Stick != Cab
It might look good as a cab, but that doesn't mean it's good as a stick.

Cheaper to make a quick-open panel yourself, even with something like PC/ABS. Hell, even PVC would make it nice. You can buy enough PVC to make a stick inside of for ~$40. Fuck, if you want to spend $300 on a stick, get some high-quality plastics that're better than that of a VLX.
Edit: Unnecessary slur. As has been stated many times, disagreeing is fine but be respectful!

My conclusions:
-Even is Hori Stock, this stick is great to play (and now I can do "Raging Storm Moves" smoothly - ex: K9999/Nameless DM's)
-Works for PS3 & PC
-The stock joystick now got Shaft Cover
-6 buttons and Vewlix (in J-sticks, I don't mind the layout, except the "Crapcom Layout")
-The mod difficulty is not so hard (even the buttons STILL ARE SOLDERED)
-The wiring is similar to the firstPS1/PS2 Hori sticks wiring (ex: Hori Real Arcade PS)

I just got my first Fight Sticks.. Hori FSVX for the Xbox360 for 50 USD, I been using 2002U to get use to it, I have to say that I like it, is bringing that old arcade feeling back... I see myself upgrading to better FS in the Future.
I've been meaning to post in this thread for awhile, but just never got around to getting my sticks together for pics until now. First up, commercial sticks:
(http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm236/jt4mtb/Arcadesticks/IMG_1219.jpg) (http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm236/jt4mtb/Arcadesticks/IMG_1219.jpg)
A Tekken 5 Collector's Edition stick, two Neo Geo old style AES sticks, and two PS1 Namco sticks. All are unmodded, though I'm thinking of changing out the parts on the Tekken stick at some point. Neat story: the Tekken stick I found last year used in a Gamestop for only $7. Seriously.
Other than that, I've also made my own sticks over the last couple years:
(http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm236/jt4mtb/Arcadesticks/IMG_1112.jpg) (http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm236/jt4mtb/Arcadesticks/IMG_1112.jpg)
All of them have iL Eurosticks (except the Ragna stick which has a Semitsu LS-32) and Happ Competition buttons. The two plain wood ones are setup for PS2 right now, the Ragna stick is PC/PS3, Last Blade stick is set for my supergun atm, Garou/Terry stick has a MC Cthulhu, and the Hazama stick is PS3/360. My personal favorite is the Terry stick, and it's the one I use the most.
Hell yeah, Namco Stick ftw.
I also dig the Garou Terry stick.

People with multiple consoles looking for a stick should probably wait til this comes out.
http://shoryuken.com/2011/12/04/joy-tron-announces-exchanger-dual-console-arcade-stick-with-sanwa-or-korean-parts/ (http://shoryuken.com/2011/12/04/joy-tron-announces-exchanger-dual-console-arcade-stick-with-sanwa-or-korean-parts/)
Dual korean top of the line arcade stick. It's super easy to open and, mod as well. When I say super easy to open and, I mean just the touch of a button to pop the top open.
Probably a silly question, but using a Hori FS3 right now for XIII, might be looking for another quality stick.
Looking at either an Eightarc or the ExChanger (http://shoryuken.com/2011/12/04/joy-tron-announces-exchanger-dual-console-arcade-stick-with-sanwa-or-korean-parts/), which do you think might fare better over time, and for XIII?
Go for a Qanba. I think the Eightarc is a rebranded Qanba. Kane317 reviewed one on the homepage.
The Eightarc lacks the handle bar of the Qanba, but the start button isn't on the face, which I think makes the Eightarc alot more appealing.
That EXChanger isn't out yet, but I got my eyes peeled on it, looks pretty cool, I like how easily it opens up. The Razor stick has a similar feature I believe.
My HRAP3's cord is breaking at the base. I'm glad all of the newer sticks are using a better design for the cord. I'm likely going to order a HRAP V3. We need high quality 6 button sticks on the market.

Damn straight. I ordered a 6 button layout plexi overlay from Tek Innovations for my TE and I love it, despite having a minor scratch below the R2 button.
Exar released a full sanwa stick awhile back that uses a six button layout, the stick is pretty much identical to their old KOFXII stick far as the case goes, and it's like $120 I think. I haven't heard any impressions from those that managed to buy it though, sold out quickly @ Play-Asia.
I ordered a Hori Real Arcade Pro v3 SA last night! I also need to order 2 Qanba white plugs to get rid of those pesky unnecessary buttons.
Doesn't HRAP v3 SA come with 2 button plugs? This definitely looked to be the case when atching a bunch of vid reviews on youtube. (or are you talking about plugging 4 buttons for KOF :) )

Good for you!
I was going to ordered from arcade shock the Qanba or the Hori RAPV3SA, but I found a place in my country that had one remaining unit of the Hori, so I got it.
It is really hard for me to adjust since I got used to the pad, I haven´t played with stick since the SF2 days, but I have to admit that now I see why the top players preferred this type of thing, it is a whole new world. You have an unmatched level of precision on each imput.
Now I just need to train to be ready for EVO.
I just received my Qanba stick today!! Ordered it from http://www.arcadeshock.com/ (http://www.arcadeshock.com/) definitely taking some getting use too but I won't give up on it. Thanks a lot Giby thought I was going to have to end up waiting till January to get one of these.
Never had a fight stick before and looking to grab one. I havn't seen anyone with the KoF 13 stick and was wondering if it's any good? Are the parts alright or would I need to change them out. For those who don't know it's this stick http://www.gammac.asia/ProductShow.asp?ID=259 (http://www.gammac.asia/ProductShow.asp?ID=259) which retails around $100. If this stick isn't that great should I grab a hori or TE?

I looked into that stick myself. Would've have gotten it, but haven't seen any feedback off of it. Still looking for some at the moment. Looking mainly into the Eightarc Fusion (http://eightarc.com/fusion-ebony) now. Though closer to $200, got great reviews, sanwa parts, and does multiplatform, which made the XIII stick appealing too. I'd suggest that stick for for a long-term commitment, even moreso than Hori or TE since you won't have to worry about who's got what game on what system.
How come noone makes any decent American Sticks besides AiaB?? I mean hell, even a limited run here and there I think would sell out quickly.
Has anyone compared the Eightarc ISO to the an HRAP?
Thinking of getting an Eightarc soon as it tough finding HRAPs.
Have seen good reviews on Eightarc as well, but would like to know if it is as usable as an HRAP.
It's likely a definite buy for me with that nice felt bottom.
Which is the difference between
This (http://www.focusattack.com/products/Qanba-Q4RAF-XB360-PS3-PC-Compatible-Joystick.html) and
This (http://www.focusattack.com/qanba-q4raf-xb360-ps3-pc-compatible-joystick-limited-edition-ice-blue/)
They seem to be the same honestly, yet the second one is more expensive, could somebody explain why
The blue one is limited edition. Otherwise, they're the same.
Are those sticks good?
One friend wants to import them, and it will be really expensive for them, so I want to give him advice
I hear they're really good. Kane317 did a review: http://dreamcancel.com/2011/12/06/qanba-q4raf-triple-mod-joystick-review-part-1/ (http://dreamcancel.com/2011/12/06/qanba-q4raf-triple-mod-joystick-review-part-1/)
My new stick:

Pretty suave nilcam, are those seimetsu buttons?
I think the HRAP-VXSA is one of the better looking sticks out of the box, nice and sleek looking.
No, these are the new Sanwa clear buttons. They're actually prettier than the Seimitsu clear buttons. They're a bit more clear and vibrant.
I didn't know Sanwa was doing clear buttons now. Pretty awesome.
I'm still undecided if I'm gonna get a new stick anytime soon, I'd wish that Razer would make that new stick they have in the works for the PS3.
So I was looking around some of the old controller sI have and came upon something I completely forgot I had. I have the SNK variant Agetec ASCII FT stick for the Dreamcast version of CvS2. I even forgot that it came with the index cards of SNK character showing off their movelist.
Since I don't play with Japanese setups, anyone know what I should try to sell this thing for? Hell, I'll probably just give away the cards if anyone is interested.
My eightarc ISO PS3 Onyx is now in hand. Great stick. Nice weight, controls as expected. The felt bottom and detachable cable are indispensable. Best stick I've ever had. This replaces my excer KOF XII stick which was also pretty decent, but I couldn't replace a bad button on that bc it's setup so you can do virtually no modding.

Have noticed that the non-game buttons like start/select/home/etc. register inputs twice on one press.
Probably luck of the draw, but this makes angry...
Here is my MOTW TE joystick (Paewang Revolution MC mod with sanwa buttons) along with my two old KOF TE joysticks (both are now MC Cthulhu/ 360 Madcatz fight-pads dual-mods with seimitsu buttons):

I'll be on most of today, and much more consistency with this new stick. Can't wait to fight you again.
I got a story and a question. For a hot second I've been trying to pick up a new stick. All the stores in the area are sold out. I took a trip to the Chicago area and they were sold out as well. On the way back I finally got a chance to swing into an inport store I love and picked up a Hori RAP EX. I end up playing this for a few days and suddenly get an unexpected package in the mail. My wife bought me a Hori RAP VX with a regular Hori VX.
Now I played with both sticks and except for the turbo, weight, and button layout is there any realreason they changed from EX to VX? My wife commented that she couldn't get the ex style anymore so she was panicked I wouldn't like the new style. Personally I'm still debating on which one I like more.
I'm pretty sure the Hori RAP EX uses stock Hori parts, save for the stick I think (?), and the Hori VX uses all stock Hori parts. It's just the build that is different.
I have the Street Fighter IV TE with a triple mod PCB that Steamwolf put in. Works for me, and it's hella awesome using it over a 360 controller for RB2. :)
I think this is the right place to post, so here I go. I just got a Qanba Q4RAF and am making some artwork for it. I was looking for opinions (One is for KOF XIII and the other for Street Fighter x Tekken) and is there anything that I could do to improve them.
Street Fighter x Tekken: http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g336/JonMcBon/Qanba/Q4-t2_SFXT3.jpg (http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g336/JonMcBon/Qanba/Q4-t2_SFXT3.jpg)
King of Fighters XIII: http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g336/JonMcBon/Qanba/Q4-t2_12_2.jpg (http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g336/JonMcBon/Qanba/Q4-t2_12_2.jpg)
I know that they're pretty basic, but I'm just working within my limitations.
I wouldn't be the right one to ask for artistic direction, but the sfxt one looks amazing.
The SFxT image has a better flow to it. The KOF art looks like a simple mish mash of images.
I'm a big fan of simple stick art because I hate it when characters have a stick growing out of them or are hidden under buttons.
Thanks for the comment. I made a modification to the first one. I found a png of Hwoarang, so I swapped out Law for him.

Does anybody here know where to buy a sega 8 button circuit board? It's for the saturn version of the astro city joystick panel.
Here are my 3 arcade sticks:
A Sega Saturn Virtua Stick HSS-0136 (old faithful), a EightArc Fusion (Tournament Stick), and a custom homemade stick based off a MC Cthuhlu chip + RJ-45 Ethernet setup (basically covers everything except the Xbox 360).
The EightArc and custom sticks both have octagonal gates and Link Quick-Releases (makes 'em way more back pack friendly), and I just did the Sanwa JLF "Ultimate Mod" on them. I like the quicker reactions and shorter throw, but I'm still getting used to the increased effort that they require now.
I haven't touched an arcade stick in so long.. Being a semi-broke college student, I just grabbed the Hori Fighting Stick V3 for $60 with my copy of KoF XIII - which came with the bonus pre-order CD's which is both awesome and sad.
Honestly have no idea how terribly (?) this stacks up with say a $200 stick. People seem to say it's a good entry level one, though, and I'm definitely liking it.
^ The Hori stick works for the most part but they have always had problems with multiple button presses at one time. I always tend to hit the buttons harder to compensate but it can be frustrating in a very competitive matchup. If you're playing casually it's a good stick. If you want better the hori real arcade pros and madcatz tournament sticks can usually be found starting around $120 (madcatz is usually more but sometimes you see them on sale), but I wouldn't drop the major cheddar unless you're hardcore getting into a particular fighter and feel the hori stick is holding you back.

Newegg is selling them right now for $99 w/ free shipping.
They are also selling the Street Fighter X Tekken Pro sticks for $99 w/ free shipping as well, those also have sanwa parts.

Yeah they are pretty much discontinued, and I wouldn't recommend it anyways since it would be a bitch to mod.

mai stick, i sanded and painted the side panels and put in the arc eyes 3 for the LED light buttons and the remora to control it & connected that with the ps360+ & FG widget to control the LED balltop so it fades out when i move it. im thinking about reversing that effect though so it lights up instead of out when i move it. if any of you guys have questions feel free to ask.

Necro-ing because valid questions apart from a little showcase.
I've been thinking of modding my stick to dual-mod (Tekken 6 wireless), but there was also this option of buying an eightarc or qanba Q4 at close to the same price. I've calculated that grabbing a PS360+ PCB, $4~ clear buttons (Senwa v Seimitsu question incoming), new microswitches, and a Sanwa JLF, it would almost be the same price as buying a full stick. However, I can "trickle" my mod parts, upgrading the stick slowly until it's complete. I can't do that with buying a replacement stick.
Now that we have that overview, QUESTION TIME:
1) Mod vs the two options. Does anyone have any experience with at least the Qanba Q4? It's the cheapest one on offer that has dual-mod. I've read somewhere that they're prone to breaking down easier than many other sticks at its price range.
2) Senwa vs Seimitsu buttons. I tend to graze over buttons when I play, and when I input, it's not a snappy push, it's me throwing down the gauntlet (or at least a giant finger) onto the button. Which one of these is snappier and less sensitive to light accidental inputs?
3) On both of these buttons for the clear/translucent ones, what's the inner diameter of the plunger where you can put art inserts? I've seen unconfirmed numbers thrown in like 22mm for the 30mm buttons, or approximations like a dime for the 24mm and a nickel for the 30mm, but I need hard numbers because everything will be sent to a print shop for higher-quality printing.
On that note, I've been working on some art for this stick. Just a note, there's a reason I have #iDOLSPORTS on my forum title. It's a little group a bunch of FGC friends made about a year ago, maybe two now, playing iDOLM@STER 2. Because most of us were big fans of iDOLM@STER (and now Love Live! and Aikatsu, too), during a stream we had been jokingly (maybe half-jokingly for some) going about how iM@S was going to be an eSports title because LOLWECANDREAM, and we effectively coined the twitter hashtag that actually trended during that long stream on Twitch. The person who streamed, @ChunandRice, even went as far as putting up an #iDOLSPORTS panel I believe back in Fanime in San Jose.
So behold! My Neo Maximum Love Live School Idol Fighting Stick Project!
The numbers in the circle indicate PC input according to the Game Controller Settings > Properties window (Buttons 1-10). Select/Back is 7, and Start is 8. Also, the buttons and the various holes are guides, and will not be in the actual printout.
Here's the proof-of-concept. Used an alternate button art option, but really this was meant to check for sizes and fits. Looks like I'll have to scale down the buttons.
1. Qanba Q4 is an alright stick, just take good care of it and it'll take good care of you.
2. Seimitsu sounds like the prime choice you'd want.
I dunno about 3.
Also you should be smacked for having that kind of artwork slapped on a stick.

Nice HRAP collection.
first gen HRAP da bes.
Yeah I have a HRAP1 (Version B) and a HRAP2, great sticks. I'm not a fan of the new HRAP "V3", so little wrist room.
nice, I still need a 1B among others that I really want like the 2SA. I don't really mind the V3 and I think the angled palm area is actually comfortable for my hands, but the likeness of the Astro panel and general class of the first gen HRAPs are what make them for me. Timeless design. The ones without hex bolts are a straight bitch to mod, though.
Decided to make the switch to stick, whipped up some stick art I had in mind.
I figure I'll make my stick so sick, I'll find it impossible to quit and go back to pad.

Finally got rid of the ugly cross tekken art

I got another VS Stick to make a set and change the art for both sticks:

I wanna be a necromancer.
Anyways, after years of thinking, I'm going to buy a arcade stick (I refuse to call them fight sticks). Options in Finland are quite limited and like to be out of stock. Also the price range is quite large. I would use them for other games also (like the games on that NeoGeo Bundle) and I'd prefer to have PS4 version. I'm also a bit of a controller enthusiast, so having one would be nice.
Currently I have few options. Hori Fighting Stick Mini 4 is the cheapest at 50 euros. It seems to be quite small and judging by the reviews, it gets the job done. It would be good option, because I'm not that hardcore when it comes to fighting games. On the other hand, cheapness might be sign of questionable quality.
Then there's Mad Catz Arcade FightStick TE2. This is so much more expensive and larger, so storing it might be problem. Priced at 190 euros, it is not the expensive thing I found, but on the higher spectrum. On the other hand I have spend that much money on a keyboard (Ducky Shine 4 with MX Clears) and other stuff, but that was more novelty/collecting thing.
Other options are for the Xbox 360/One, like Hori Real Arcade Pro and Razer Atrox (ewww). I'd prefer to have PS4 version, because that would be the console I'd buy if I buy one.
I was on a budget for a PS4 stick and went with the Hori RAP4. It also works for the PS3. It isn't the best stick out there but I consider it the cheapest while still being high quality. The chraper hori sticks work but tend to have issues when using comboination of buttons.
I ended up ordering Hori Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai from Germany. Seemed to be good price/quality controller. It should arrive here in two weeks, so I can't wait to try it out. I was thinking about doing little vlog series of me telling how I'm learning to use it. Is anyone intrested?
Okay, I got the stick. I ordered Kai version, but the box says it is normal version. I guess this isn't big of a deal for me, because apparently Kai version has more space between buttons and the stick. I don't have that big hands, so no worries.
First impressions from a person who hasn't used stick ever. Well, it feels solid. Stick is wonderfully clicky. Buttons feel easy to press, although I'd like that they would have more tacticle feedback (I have few mechanical keyboards with Cherry switches). Travel time on them is short. Plastic on the art is glossy, so it is quite a fingerprint magnet, I wonder how easy it is to apply custom art?.
Stick was easy to get to work on PC, because it was plug and play. KOF 2002UM and KOF 98UMFE on Steam worked with no problems, it even said on the menu what controller I'm using (Hori Real Arcade). KOF XIII didn't work for some reason, I have investigate this one more. I tried it on Steam Metal Slug X and assinging buttons was easy. Freedom Planet also worked.
How did I perform? It was weird to use stick. I could to multiple quater circles in a row, without accidental dp motions, unlike with DualShock 4. Half circles felt okay. Double motions like 2 x qcf's and 2 x hcb were difficult to pull off, because apparently you have to wiggle stick damn fast. I noticed I got too much unnecessary inputs.
Well, I guess I need lot's of practice.
I have a stick for sale. https://twitter.com/EXWildWolf/status/943553093127434240
