Good stuff Malik that channel in general is awesome whenever Gutts posts something KOF13 related. Recommend everyone here to follow it.

All these impractical combo videos are getting kind of annoying these days.

A side note on Duo Long. I think he is a great point character but a lot of the times can look more dominant than he really is. He is really strong against people who get annoyed easily and start playing dumb. I put myself in that group, I always seem to get bodied by Duo but it is usually the result of getting rekkad a few times and then losing composure just trying to go in and get rid of him.

It isn't a perfect science and I understand where you are coming from about certain characters specializing in certain spots.

I feel the top tier in this game can play 1-3 which is what EX Iori, Beni, Kim, and Karate can all do. I am hesitant to put EX Kyo in that group with them because although he is a fantastic point, I don't really see a reason to stick him anywhere else. I think the best teams in the game are any combination of Flame/Kim/Karate/Beni or EX Kyo/(Beni/Karate/Kim/Flame).

The group below specializes in a certain slot but in that slot they REALLY excel.

It's hard to measure tiers in this game because it isn't as Vanilla as a game like SF4, but I think you can generalize characters to a point to where you can say this group is better than this next group which is better than the next and so on.

I think the tiers are becoming a lot more clear for this game. EX Iori, Benimaru, Kim, Karate, possibly EX Kyo are tops. I think right behind them are characters like Shen, Claw, 13 Kyo, Takuma, Hwa, Chin, Yuri, possibly Duo Lon with recent tourney results. There might be a few more characters sprinkled into that second group that aren't represented as much, and it is also very debatable.

The top group feels to be dominating tournies as far as character representation goes. In theory I think EX Iori and Benimaru are the best because of the ridiculously meter efficient combos they can do if you have the execution. Kim and Karate seem to be generally the best because of how practical their really good stuff is.

This isn't to say that the othe characters aren't viable (because I know someone is going to bring up how Mai and other lower tiered characters are making top 8) but I do think there is a much more noticable gap than before.

I have been playing 13 since launch. I have extensive time logged in online for 360 (over 1000 matches that I HAVE played recently). I think I could give a really good perspective on the comparison between Steam and console online as I do believe a lot of the people who claim that Steam is better than console haven't played console online since launch and had a negative experience in random matchmaking so their recollection on how bad the online was for console is a bit off.

I have talked to RKilley who currently has a beta key that we could possibly play some Steam games then hop onto XBL for some games and give a comparison as of today which could provide some very solid input.

I also think it would be great for Seattle to get at least one beta key, we currently have a growing scene which is scattered throughout Washington. So having a great netcode would help the 10-15 new players we have stick with the game as they could get practice whenever they wanted without getting too discouraged.

I would also plan to test out different internet connections at different locations in Seattle at my fellow players houses and what not. This netcode needs to work!

Joe Higashi / Re: Joe Higashi (Console)

Any beginner Joe tips? I have been playing this game since console release (go to a decent amount of local tournies) so I am not a new player picking him up. I have been told use his st A, cr B, st A, f+B string for my confirms but also told mix it up a lot with Joe like cr B, cr B, st A, f+B or cr. A, st. D, f+b etc.... any other things to note?

Not that I should be practicing this right now anyways but I am working on his corner stun combo after his basic hcf+BD setup. I can get to the first drive cancel into crescent kick but then when I do his rapid punches -> finisher then go for the DP+B it always whiffs, the character is high enough it just doesn't connect. I figure it has something to do with his rapid punches but I can't quite figure it out.

Do you guys double tap or triple tap the punches or just try to do them really quickly?

Thanks for the general tips guys... also I play Joe on point, Joe/Shen/Flame. Had been playing Ralf/Claw/Beni up to this point.

He wants to see matches where players to use it to see how they implement it. Where they use it in strings, etc. He knows it's useful, but just wants to see players that use it is all.  ;up

You really don't need to see a match video to see how it's done. If you understand frame traps and proper offensive pressure, you can play around with it in training mode and in offline matches yourself...just try it.

Understand how it is done and what frame traps are but I like to watch a player who uses it a decent amount (again if every Shen used to a lot I wouldn't be asking this, but I don't see it utilized as much when I watch Shens) and see how he implements it. For example, does he go for it after a couple grabs/command grabs? What particular block string or series of strings does he like to use before he runs up and uses it. How often does he empty hop into it? Etc.

If their isn't any videos people can think of that is fine it is a kind of obscure thing to ask for. The second time I asked if their were any vids I was kind of just joking around anyways.

But yea no big deal ill just dig up some of your matches Malik and really pay attention.

Who is a good Shen player at utilizing his cr B -> St C link? Looking for ways or patterns to set it up. Most Shens I watch always have HD so anything low is just confirmed into that.

Not self bragging or anything but I use that string pretty frequently & it is viable as well as doubling as a frame trap.

You have any notable matches I can check out?

You don't need to watch any matches to know how useful it is, just go to training mode & put the dummy on 1-Guard Jump & see for yourself how useful it is.

So no matches?

A couple basic Robert safe jump set ups. One off his command grab and one off his regular throw.

Regular Throw:

Robert safe jump

Command Grab:

Not knowing the Raiden matchup does indeed go a long ways but I feel like he is a solid character. He does have issues when characters like Kyo or Iori start jumping on him.

Online Matchmaking / Re: New player need some info
June 16, 2013, 06:15:33 AM
I got into the KOF scene because of online play but it is overall terrible. As someone mentioned you can have some playable matches if you play someone in the same state or near you. Even people withing 25 miles of me we still get 3-4 frames of input delay it seems.

Since you need to play people really close to you the online scene is pretty dead, a lot of times when looking for a match no one is on.

I highly recommend finding your closest scene if you are very interested in the game. If you can find a couple of people who live pretty close to you that play online then you can learn some stuff from that.

Northwest Majors Top 8:

http://www.twitch.tv/teamkhaos/b/414772503

go to about the 5:00:00 mark

A lot of good and relatively unknown players from the Northwest. This top 8 features Portland players such as Sam B, Darwin, Daniel T, and Joel B. Local Seattle players Mechanica and Duggish also in here. Finally Air and KaneBlueRiver.

It was a fun top 8 a lot of really good matches. Make sure to check out the Mechanica vs Sam B match (6:13:00).

Damn as a Chin player I thoroughly enjoyed Mechnica's Chin.  Good stuff.

Glad you enjoyed it! Mechanica pretty much plays the entire cast but his Chin is one of the characters he is known for.

ill try and put more content from our scene up here as we tend to post a lot.
