Any tips on the qcb+C -> st.A link? I can't get it down. x_x

I've been trying: cl. D, f. A, qcb + C, s. A, hcf + BD

Delay the qcb+C as much as possible, midscreen you dont need to delay it much but in the corner u have to pretty much cancel into the mayhem as late as possible or the s.A will whiff.

Thanks, I'll try that.

Kinda given up on DL. :/ My execution on his Rekkas is still atrocious after playing him for long enough to get a feel for him at entry level, and that pretty much closes off his combos/shenanigans to me, while also making my DL play full of easily punishable holes when I mess them up.

U sure you can do it anywhere?

I made this vid showcasing the max amount of sA, hcf+BD loops you can do. It also shows it being done out of corner.

vice.avi

o_o I'm speechless. Trying to work out if this is cheap or awesome. I doubt I'd ever have the execution ability to pull it off though, so I guess it's kinda arbitrary. x_x Do people use it a lot in higher level play?

Any tips on getting into Duo Lon? He's intrigued me, but a friend said he's quite hard to learn because he's markedly different from most KoF characters. I get that you can follow up QCFP->QCF+B, but have only seen it done once or twice.. People have said there's a mixup game there, could someone explain that to me? Or is that just him in general?

Honestly, the best place to start is his wiki as I put a lot hyperlinks to corresponding matches.  Although all the clips are to the arcade version, it should be 90% relevant.    If you have any questions after you finish reading the strategies please don't hesitate to ask.

Also, any tips on the timing of his Neomax cancel from EX DM would be greatly appreciated (also, is the direction of the NM input in relation to where you start the DM from, or where he hits on the final hit of it before cancelling?).

For the Ex DM, you [MC] on the 3rd hit inputting the NeoMax the opposite direction.

Yeah, I read the wiki after and facepalmed a little, as it answered so many of my questions. Thanks on both counts.

General Discussion / Re: Real match execution.

More than just understanding basic combos from c. B/low jump attacks, it's also important to understand your characters' basic mixup options so that you have ways to open your opponent up (or with a zoning character, keep them at a manageable range).

Even if you're not always landing optimal combos, if you understand how to limit the opponent's options with your character, you can kill the opponent with repeated small victories instead of one or two decisive blows. Learn how to create traps for your opponent's common reactions (roll? DP? CD counter? keep blocking? mash from disadvantage? jump predictively or on reaction?), and exploit those with simple but consistent punishes to keep your momentum. (You bait your opponent's roll out of your corner pressure, but you don't know/can't do any good combo punishes for it? Then you can at least throw them back into the corner and try to counter whatever they try next to escape. Any punish beats NO punish, any day of the week.)

This game scares a lot of people due to the high-end execution requirements, but many new players don't realize how easy and rewarding it is to create a fundamental game to build on. If your combos are still developing, there are plenty of universal offensive and defensive tools to fill out your basic mixup and zoning. Worry first about learning how to poke, zone, move and mix up at the basic level, and grow into bigger and better combos as you get better at creating opportunities for them.

This is such a very helpful post, thankyou.

I'm a newbie at XIII-Clarke (honestly, KoF in general, esp. multiplayer. Only a little 2002UM before). I still can't do his super cancels, etc.. That's just practice, though. At the moment I'm spamming B SAB -> Hop wakeup loop way too much. It works 90% of the time on the AI, but I know it'll get me owned next time I play people online. What wakeup game do I have after I ground them?

Atm, I'm relying on:
;b SAB
Charge -> Gatling
;bk  ;c
Block

Which of these combos would count as Kula's BnB? I'm guessing the jump-in ones would be a good start. I'm trying to learn her, but I need to get out of just spamming bad shoto-scrub habits, so knowing which combos to focus on would be really helpful.

I suspect it's just the pace of the game I'm not used to in regards to counters. Also the odd way they're grouped with some characters. I'll get the hang of it with time, I'm sure.

Well, like a lot of people here have said, XIII is a really new game that happens to share a lot with games like 2k2UM and 98UM. So I wouldn't worry about not being able to join right now since a lot of us still have not had a chance to play 13. But I will say though, don't be intimidated by all the extra stuff that KoF presents the player. What I mean by that, is all the different kind of jumps, rolls and extra things you can do with power stocks.

Hehe, Dandy J's tutorial was a good introduction to stuff like that. I still don't have a clue how to effectively use the MAX gauge, though. But I suspect that will come with time.

A friend recommended KoF, and I was getting a bit tired of Street Fighter. 4 is a solid game, but I guess I wanted to find something else to learn and sink my teeth into. I'm worried I've joined the KoF community a bit late, though.. It seems like it's not as popular now as it was before, though what I've heard about XIII is promising (if they ever get around to releasing it here..).
