Koukou is the best Kim player I think.

As for why they didn't do that well at Evo...I didn't see Koukou or Haregoro play on the big stage but Woo and Nemo seemed to break down under the pressure with everyone yelling. It's a very different atmosphere than their tournaments and it seems they aren't really used to do that...

Like in the case of Nemo, he did not do well at Evo in umvc3, but when it came to long sets for money, he beat PR Rog 15-6 and 15-12, lost to Wong 15-14, beat FChamp 20-11 for $500 and beat ChrisG 20-10 for $1000. That is extremely good consistency, but it was in a different atmosphere than the evo tournament atmosphere.

Tokido vs Zeroblack

I hope people noticed in game 3 that Tokido was fishing hard for Kim's far s.D with Mr.Karate's cr.A. It was pretty obvious when he started throwing it out a lot and I'm wondering if Zeroblack noticed or made adaptations to play around it. In the end though he ended up getting tagged out of far s.D and Tokido hit confirms for a huge punish.

I think you mean at the end of game 2...and Tokido ended up getting Zeroblack out of a Kim qcb+D, not far D. That qcb+D was probably an error, can't imagine why he would have done that.

This was pretty hype, but I wouldn't really call this a win for America in the sense that there is a huge gap in skill between Reynald and everyone else in the US. The US very much so need to go "back to work" as the topic suggests.

As for the grand final, as good as Reynald played, it looked like it was the pressure and the crowd that really beat Woo...he was so mentally strong in all of his other matches but the moment Reynald made that comeback in the third match when Reynald was losing 2-0, everything turned around. Definitely looked like Woo was going to get a heart attack.

A little 5v5 video I found on Dune's youtube. So far so good... and this is the first part of out a couple videos. I'll post the rest later.

Honestly the first couple of parts aren't that good...the players are kind of new/sloppy there. But as you get further, it gets pretty crazy.

like 4:40 and 17:22.

Koukou is really godly, but for whatever reason he didn't play nearly as good in the tournament.

He has defeated Madkof and pretty much destroyed most of the other top players in sets, such as Tenkawa. He also won some Japanese national tournament recently.

If anything, I felt Kyabetsu didn't play that well, but still somehow won the tournament. Kyabetsu is definitely a lower level player compared to Koukou.

Stunfest is this week and Koukou the god, as well as Kyabetsu, will be coming to Europe for it.

Were you able to get footage of the KCE 5 on 5 that happened recently in Japan. I think it happened last Saturday or Sunday.

No, I'm waiting for that...I heard Kaneblueriver was there and teamed up with Haregoro, Myu and some others.

Who're some exceptional Shingo players in OG 98, and if they exist, do they have any match footage?

Your best bet will be to look for a player named Ichiku...but most of his footage is from 98UM. Still has some relevance.

40
By Korean, I'll just say CafeID, but the difference with them over many Japanese is they'll go for the available hit, and don't rely on HD combos or cancelling. My latest fight against Verna was his Terry with a fucking crazy yomi, and at least one fight against him (and MadKOF once) involved a excellent-timed raw HD. Maybe Japanese players like Shokti or Haregoro do that, but they don't do it as consistently.

While I think it was a slight exaggeration, do you know what the running joke was that was being made by the Japanese players during KCE Cup/V-1 Final, to the korean players? That the EX Hangetsuzan is coming any time now.

From what I see, MadKof is probably the only player that is on the level of those japanese players. The other cafeID members are pretty good too, especially Lacid, but they don't have the footsies and execution of those japanese players. Just because the Japanese HD combo/cancel better than the koreans, doesn't mean the Japanese rely on it more...they can just convert into it better, though honestly I wouldn't say this is the reason they are better.

Interesting stuff from the host GDH was talking to. I'd kind of want to tell you to tell him to watch more than just Japanese play; Korean and South American (Brazil, Chile, etc.) play-styles show some things the Japanese don't always take advantage of

Like? I can't really think of anything, except stuff that Japanese players leave out of their metagame because it's inferior.

Also that thing about Japanese players disregarding meter management/building is nonsense...if anything, they are more aware of how much meter they need in a particular situation than other players are. But sometimes you just have to take out a character when you get the chance...does Bala know nothing about meter management because he had to use 4 bars and HD against Madkof's Chin when it didn't kill him and it wasn't Madkof's last character?

Hey Mikel do you have anymore footage from the KCE Cup? There's a number of matches missing.

There was another 2on2 the day before this one, also for kof13...I don't have the full results but orochinagi posted some information about it:

http://orochinagi.com/2013/01/team-japan-is-ready-kce-cup-5-results

From what I remember, both cafe ID teams got to top 8 but couldn't advance further than that. Lacid teamed up with 777, I think they only made it to top 16 though.

Madkof got knocked out by some ridiculous Athena, I think his name was Nagihe or Gaku.

Also I'm pretty sure this "Hamutai" is actually "Hamatai"

Yeah that's the guy...but this video is incorrectly labelled. I think those are casuals.

Also go to 38:00 for Lacid, Gutts and Madkof vs. Tenkawa.

I caught the archive last night, fantastic play all around. I do hope this Evo more Japanese players make a statement. It's not like they have anything to prove, but I think people really need to see what's up with Japanese KoF.

Keep in mind that the archive only has one of the 2v2 tournaments. There was another one the day before that Madkof and crew also entered and that one was very impressive as well...but I can't find any matches from it now. I'm particularly looking for the Madkof vs. Nagihe(Saiki/Athena player) match.
