Meet & Greet / Re: Some dude in SoCal

Hello everyone, recently found out this place existed and decided to sign up. I played a teenie tiny bit of 02 and Garou in the past ~3 years before XIII, but it was infrequent enough that I had to constantly relearn my characters whenever I played. Despite living in SoCal, I'm super NAH, hopefully that will start to change with this game.

Welcome Elec, where abouts in SoCal you stay at?

Big E, thank you for hosting such an amazing event and all your hard work. I have nothing but amazing things to say about NEC when I get back home, I will definetely try to make it out next year. The KOF community in the East coast is awesome they showed nothing but love to the WC and out of state players. JT did an amazing job running the KOF side of the tourney all his hard work is appreciated too. NEC has set a bench mark for KOF majors, as a TO for SCR I will try to match the level of excitment and numbers you guys delivered.

Again thanks to all the NEC Staff!

Thank you all for your support via twitter and the forums, I appreciate it and believe it or not helped me get through the finals. I will do a Recap Stream later this week possibly Thursday.

I do not ask  that you guys win, just that you do not let Justin Wong win.

Don't worry, I'll take care of that for ya! ;)

Archives / Re: SoCal Regionals 2011 REGISTRATION OPEN!!!!!!

Hi Luis, I think it's only online.

37
So HYPED!!!

38
we've extended online registration til 10pm tonight.  Last chance people!

Fuck yeah I just registered lol, I woke up this morning as was like "FFFFFUUUUUUUUU" cause I forgot about the deadline but I'm cool now.

About teams tourney is just like Metaphysics said, pretty much eveybody plays the oldschool config so we don't really have that problem. but I think if we pause the game right at the beginning of the round and configure the buttons it should go pretty fast. Based on the singles registration I'm guessing we'll have 8 teams at most and if you have 4 setups this should take no more than 2 hours max.

This will be the first time anything like this is ever done so I'll leave it up to you guys but I think it will be a fun addition to NEC.

I propose a 3v3 teams tournament, each players only gets one character. KOF style baby! We sometimes do this in SoCal and is so much fun.

Here's a good question for our tourney players: Do you absolutely have to know Neo Max combos in order to be competitive? Just curious if there's anyone that's done well in tournies (like Top 8) without using the extended Neo Max combos for select characters.

For top 8 in tourneys is a must, like Saitsuofleaves explained before it wasn't that necessary because of the 3 meter requirement but now in the arcade version you need to know them.

I'm going to politely disagree here.  Yes, in the console the NeoMaxs have lower requirements and from producer Yamamoto-san himself, he wanted encourage NeoMaxes being used.  However, it's still up to your playstyle and character.  Remember, most characters don't use NeoMaxes outside of HD combos so if you don't normally do them, you probably won't in the console either.  For what it's worth, I tied 7th at Evo and I never used NeoMax combos.

Sir I respect your point of view, and I will agree to disagree. I do see the need to learn NeoMax combos as a number of characters such as Yuri, Terry and Saiki allow you to follow up after a NeoMax which in cases is better than just going for a normal super or Ex Super ender.

Just curious if anyone else is experiencing it. Is there an unusual amount of droppers on this game? I thought I was playing SVC again. One guy really befuddled me. He put on his message before the match starts "Don't hold back." Then drops when I have him down 2 characters.

Are the droppers getting away with not recording a loss, or are they in withdrawal from Capcom installing punishments for dropping?

Let me guess, are playing on PSN? I hear there's lot of quitters there. I don't think the system to punish them is severe enough.

Saiki / Re: Saiki
« on: November 24, 2011, 01:28:06 AM »
This should be on the first post BTW, maybe we can get a mod to add it.

To unlock Saiki you need to complete 50 target actions by the end of your third match, then defeat him once you face him. If you average 6 target actions per round you should be able to unlock him.
