Shen Woo / Re: Shen Woo (Console)

Really simple HD, for anyone who needs to dumb it down.

Usual confirm of cr.B st.B or close C f.B into HD activate...

4 bars: close C xx f.B xx qcf+A xx cmd grab xx qcf+AC, qcf qcf+C xx neomax.
3 bars: close C xx f.B xx qcf+A xx cmd grab xx qcf+AC, neomax.

The cmd grab into ex punch spaces them for hold button buffer followups without needing to time anything really. The qcf+A can be omitted if spacing is close, but that makes it much more consistent. Works with EX super -> neomax as well but it's not as easy to time.

It's not meter-efficient or optimal, but hey, if it'll finish the match and you just need something simple...

Random: You can set up a crossup j.B off of EX cmd grab. And it can be done deep enough to get  ;d ~ ;d for an HD combo or whatever. Gimmicky but cool. Who expects a vice crossup?

EDIT: oh cool.

He wants to see matches where players to use it to see how they implement it. Where they use it in strings, etc. He knows it's useful, but just wants to see players that use it is all.  ;up

Yeah after playing some Maxima last night and getting successful reads off air EX vapor cannon into close C and having it whiff on the second hit frequently, I'm definitely gonna use df.C more. Thanks for the input!

Trying to learn Ryo. Here's some casuals with a few friends who are newer to the game. Matches start at 30 or 40m in, but I get more on point as I warm up and we buckle down and stop chatting as much while playing lol.

Just some casuals with a few friends/newer players and myself. Trying to learn Mr. $5. First time playing him against humans. It starts pretty sloppy and as I warm up gets a little better. Nothing ground breaking but hey these forums need activity. :)

Some friends/newer players and I had a casual session tonight - one of 'em plays Leona, but may not have a lot of interesting stuff to see as he's still learning...

I play her too though, and bust her out about 2h30m in. I play her for a good hour or so. *shrug*

Not sure if this is common knowledge but I don't see it very frequently:

Safe jump setup:
end any corner combo with qcb+P instead of a dp, whiff another qcb+P (hold button buffer), then normal hop (hop C preferred for hitstun).

Another option is after qcb+P, just backdash, then hop forward C.

It's a standard 4f safe jump and really easy to do! I think it's well worth the small damage sacrifice for not ending with DP.

Are you sure? I know qcb+D can be canceled into on block, I'm pretty sure qcb+B would be the same.

If you're talking about whiff canceling though, then yes. I frequently see good Kim players whiff crouch C outside of it's range and they OS qcb+D so that if the counter poke connects it comes out and combos. Whenever you see Reynald whiff crouch C that's what he's doing. The qcb+D can then be canceled to his launcher super for some good damage off a random counterpoke!

Maxima / Re: Maxima (Console)

Do you know if close C (1) xx df.C is more consistent at that range? Just trying to decide which HD confirm would be better to commit to muscle memory.

Re: the ex grab combo

Would it not be more damage if you followed up the grab with qcb+P first? It's more difficult because you have to do grab -> lightning -> qcf (hold forward for a sec) +K so beni walks forward a step before you Iaido kick into ex ball or it will whiff, but it gets them higher up in the air for what it's worth.

That's weird, but awesome. I don't get it but I'm gonna mess with this. I usually just try to anticipate forward roll because backward roll is easier to punish. Sweet.

Check out Tenga/Tenkawa, he usually plays Shen on point so you'll see a lot more than just HD confirm. (Look for Shen/Duo Lon/Ash in the match vid document on the fb group :P)

Also check out cafeid archives - I see a lot of the korean Shen players using both that as well as stuff like st.C qcf+D frame trap into st.A or crouch C which I think is underutilized as well.

General Discussion / Re: Tier lists and Character Discussion Thread
« on: June 17, 2013, 11:31:27 PM »
Raiden definitely has issues against the top tier hop pressure characters, but I think he's high tier anyway. Most the just-under-top-tiers have issues in those matchups. I think that 1) having anywhere juggle tools automatically puts you pretty high tier. Being able to convert off nearly anything is an incredible tool to have, and 2) having an overhead that can be canceled without HD is also extremely useful. Couple that with a 1f cmd grab, a great anti-air dp move, and insane damage output and that's a recipe for high tier character. He definitely has glaring weaknesses but the tools are all there.

As for Kula, I think she's underrated. I can't agree with people putting her at the bottom. Having a long range 4f normal that is special cancelable alone is amazing. She gets full punishes (that many characters can't even get) leading to safejumps pretty easily. Couple that with 2-hit throw normals that are cancelable (which lead to great corner damage for just 1 stock on hit), an amazingly fast/active/lengthy j.B, and amazing guard gauge depletion due to her weird stand A bug, she's solid mid to me. Her DP is okay too. She suffers from not having an overhead and ineffecient damage on her drive cancels but they all lead to easy safejumps in the corner which helps balance it out.

Leona is NOT bottom tier, surprised we're not past this assumption yet. Neither is Billy, especially after his b+A xx spinny staff free cancel tech, he gets great damage.

It's so hard to put people in bottom tier in this game, since the balance is good. Mai and Elisabeth are the two worst characters to me. Mai just has to work a lot harder than the rest, and elisabeth is just so damn stubby she has zero ground game aside from gimmicky slap spam. The fact that she almost has to take to the air to mount an offense really cripples her IMO.

Oh boy there's some nastiness going on in here. Ralf better than Kim? Dive bomber safe at all times? EXs that make up for his weaknesses? Yikes. Not gonna go into that, but no, no, no.

^ What he said!

Join us on Facebook at "KOF Northwest" and/or send me a message on here! We have weeklies and a larger monthly we'd love to have more players!

As for eastern WA, I'm not sure about the scene that way. Either way our FB group is pretty large and I imagine some of them live out that way.
