Training Room / Re: SNK Term Encyclopedia
« on: November 21, 2011, 05:53:49 PM »
I am speaking about the usage of the term being applied to kof. The term "meaty" is not used by kof until recently where C/D and heavy were used before. I'd even go as far to say reversal wasn't a staple to the kof games terminology, but I don't have a problem with that as much as "meaty" because reversal and dp are quite old terminologies in general applied to that strategy in general not confined to one series/franchise.

Meaty is something that comes across more in line with terms like "short" (for light attacks) for example. That's fine if you disagree and kof games should adopt such terminology it's only an opinion like mine which is what forums are about. Language is like Marmite, some ppl will like it some won't. I hope this clears up the original post/
I've never heard anyone in any fanbase talking about any fighting game use "meaty" as meaning a strong normal attack.  The closest I can think of is sometimes using "beefy" as a joking term for a high level attack in Arc games.

A meaty attack is any attack timed so that your opponent comes out of an invincible state (usually either wake up or aerial reset) while its active frames are touching him.  The only reason why the term might be somewhat linked to Capcom games is because it got made up by people talking about SF2:WW, but the concept applies to pretty much any 2D fighter.

Yeah, age-restricting an arcade is kind o_O.  Did they have porno games or something? *laughs*

Don't worry about being new.  I'm sure XIII will draw in a lot of new players.  Put your energy towards constant learning and improvement ;)

Man alive, one person writes an article and everyone's ready to jump off a cliff?  Just calm down for a few more days and test the damn thing yourselves.

You act like anyone over here is gonna cancel their preorders.  We're all still buying the game.
Quite the opposite.  I don't think anyone here who's placed a preorder is going to cancel it at this point, which is why it's kind of irritating to see doomsaying and whining when people will buy it and try it for themselves anyway.

Also, hello everyone at Dream Cancel. I'm honored to be a part of this community.
Welcome aboard :) .  Feel free to introduce yourself in the Meet'n'Greet area, when you get a chance.

BB:CS's story mode was friendlier than GG's, at least.  No fights that you had to lose, win with perfects, win with instant kills, etc. in order to unlock paths *laughs*

On topic, though, does the practice mode still let you program macros frame by frame?

I love that stage. The sound design on it is amazing.
Likewise.  Also, having a plain background like that means less visual distractions, which is nice.

oh anyone know why Clark Steel has been called "Still" since KOFXII?  Wasn't it originally Steel?
Yeah, it was once Steel.  I don't know why they changed it.  Maybe just something that they messed up translating all along, like Lay Spin.

0- The most important thing to understand is the backdash makes you in airborn state after the first frame, so on the first frame you're still on the ground to be hitted by any meaty or whatever
Are we sure about this?  This was my initial understandaing as well, but the video for the "1 frame backdash" change sure looked like a meaty hit still forced an aerial reset.  I guess we'll see some stuff soon from the people with early releases, since Kane is keeping his secrets *laughs*

So how do you explain being hit or trading with a meaty timed normal on my wake if Im doing...lets say andy's dp+A or even C version
I've had numerous occasions where it just trades. But ex DP owns everything. Same can be said for Yuri.

I dunno much about the KOF system so in that scenario that means what in terms of invincibility frames?
The way that invincible DPs typically work in KOF (haven't tested extensively in XIII yet myself, but what Sharnt says seems to agree with this) is that they have invincible frames through startup only.  This means that they won't get stuffed but will trade with anything that's already active inside of them once the DP reaches active frames.

EX specials are a whole different matter.

Might also be the case in frame traps too? I don't know if it's on recovery or at all times, but a 1 frame activation could mean you get out of frame trap strings with characters without one-frame moves.
It would work like this against a frame trap:

Char A does frame trap opening
Char B backdashes during the gap
Char A hits with the next part of the frame trap against an aerial opponent

Further implications would depend on the exact frame trap being used.

I don't care about tiers or anything of the sort, I just play with who I like.
Good attitude to have ;)

I'm probably gonna be using some combination of Mature/Claw/Elizabeth/Clark/Raiden with Leona at NEC.  If I can get enough practice with him to figure some stuff out, might squeeze Billy into the mix as well.  Also want to try Kensou, Duo Lon, Shen, Benimaru, Yuri, and (once he's available) NESTS Kyo, but I don't think I'll have enough time to get comfortable with any of them before NEC.

Gah, never get tired of hearing that music :)

Cool news about the sponsorship.  I've never been in a tournament with that much of a pot bonus before.  Should be fun stuff *laughs*
