Training Room / Differences and similarties between SF to KOF13
« on: January 11, 2013, 04:45:50 PM »
Why don't we make a big list of differences and similarities between SF games and KOF13?

Reason for making this thread is because we all know that many KOF players started with Street Fighter first. If we investigate the similarities, differences and the way they relate to each other, maybe it will help Street Fighter players make their transition to KOF13 much more easier and smoother.

What are blatant differences to you?

Which characters are similar in SF4 (or older Street Fighter games) and KOF13 to you? Which character moves are similar?

What about system mechanics? What things are similar and different about the gameplay system mechanics compared to SF to KOF13?

When helping new players from Street Fighter games that are interested in KOF, what things do you tell them when comparing the games?

Training Room / The KOF Battle Journal
« on: October 16, 2012, 02:45:14 AM »
This thread is will be sort of like a journal for players to document their thoughts and feelings from various battles you have experienced. These experiences can be from casuals, playing online or at tournaments, money matches, etc.

You can also post up things you need to work on in training mode (combos, setups etc), or certain habits you will like to eliminate to improve your gameplay.

You can also share what characters you are currently playing with, your progress with them as well as characters you are having trouble fighting and your progresses towards that.

You can even rant and post your frustrations or brag and boast of your success.

The point to this thread is for you can journal down your experiences, and feelings, then look back at them at a later date to see how much you have improved and what you may still need to work on.

Here are a few rules:

1.) This is not a Q & A thread, or advice thread. It is simply for you to express yourself and note down things you need to work on regarding your gameplay.

2.) This is not a thread to disrespect or gossip about certain players you have come across. Leave names of players out.

3.) This is not a "Good Games"/"Bad Games" thread. Post your feelings about the match instead, with positive and negative things you have found in your gameplay.

4.) This is not a video critique thread. But you can journal down things you have observed in a match video you have saved or that is uploaded online.

This is an example of one journal entry:

"I need to practice and work on my hit confirms into combos. I have missed out on too many high damage opportunities because I cannot consistently hit confirm low attacks into bnb's or HD combos. I also need to pay attention to my opponents habits while on the defense for I can find gaps in their offense and blockstrings instead of just trying to mash out of the corner hoping for a lucky hit."

These are some really good articles that you were post on SRK last year by MyLifeisAnRPG. It doesn't have anything to do with KOF specifically (it is mentioned a few time) but it's more about helping your mental and psychological state while playing fighting games, and overcoming learning hurdles.

So hopefully this will help new players that are new to fighting games as well as some long-time players whom are interested in different and more consistent ways of learning. VERY helpful stuff.

"The key to effective teaching and learning is in understanding how the human brain works. Before I became a professional geek I had a long college career in psychology and dabbled in teaching. I quickly figured out that if you don’t keep in mind the brain’s psychological limits you might as well be giving a lesson to a brick wall. Here’s the thing, these psychological limits apply whether you are learning long division or trying to nail down perfect execution on your new Vergil touch-of-death combo. Learning is learning, no matter what the subject matter, so I am here to give you six psychological tips to keep in mind when leveling up your game."

Iori Yagami (Claw) / Claw vs Flame!
« on: June 27, 2012, 08:05:14 PM »
All the Claw vs Flame Iori comparisons go here.

-Kane317

---

Speaking of Flame Iori, anyone wanna brainstorm on comparing him to Claw?

Firstly, here are some ideas on Claw Iori's pros and cons which need to be filled out here: http://dreamcancel.com/wiki/index.php?title=Iori_Yagami_(XIII)#Gameplay_Overview

(if anyone agrees or disagrees or has anything to add, please share)

Pros:

* Good damage output

* Air and ground resets in the corner and midscreen

* Good frame traps (mostly with his qcb+B)

* Great offensive pressure

* Great air and ground normals

Cons

* Not many meterless tools (as Matt expressed)

* Not many hard knockdown opportunities

* Lacking zoning/long range game

Now, when people ask me to compare the two Iori's I usually

* Flame Iori has the stronger oki game (because of his hard knockdown combos from rekkas, etc)

* Flame Iori can zone better with his qcf+P

* Claw Iori has more damaging HD combos

* Claw Iori has better resets from his command throw and corner resets with his bnb into qcb+C (or A, I don't remember) then st.A for the reset, j.C or s.B, etc.

Btw, which Iori you guys feel has the best standing overhead? Claw's df+C or Flame's f+B?

Who has the better dp? Better reversals?

Anyone else have anything to add? This is all my opinion and perspective, it would be good to hear some other ones.
