The NEW 50% Character Thread (Tables and Voting on Page 1)

This thread is for talking about chrs we think perform better for the team using 50% HD rather than the full stick as a general strategy. The aim is to identify good point/middle chrs that can deal some pretty significant damage with 50% and aren't hindered by not burning gobs of meter.

So the rule is combos for any chr with up to 50% HD, everything else is fair game.
Naturally relevant strategy and most effective characters can be discussed as well.

I think none of us would mind having a chr or two who played like this in the mixup for those meter starved moments and for setting up the remaining chrs with a fund of power. :)


As an example, Joe:

0 Stock, 1+ Drive Gauge
(Corner) j.D, s.C, f.B, hcf+B (DC) dp+B, [A] 1~2 - qcb+P< j.D = 420 damage
Pretty cracking damage with no stock.

1 Stock, No Drive Gauge

Came up with this crazy contraption recently.

I'm not sure of what is the point of this thread, so before posting i'll ask a few questions, it is to found the most damaging and pratical combos with few bars, best deal between damages and cost with less than 50%HD, or just the most damaging ones?

Because if you just want to optimize this thread lacks some, and if you are looking for practical ones, in order to really use them, i don't get the point to start combo with s.C instead of d.B,d.B,s.B for some char who will land 90%+ of their combo from it.

Scaling is based on hits. In order to get the max damage out of a combo, you have to do the lowest amount of hits with the highest amount of damage. If you flip the argument on its head, you find that the only reason you would do light low moves was because of an execution barrier. If you don't have that barrier, the best thing is to increase the damage of the combo.

It's not a matter of practicality because all of these combos are practical. They don't use a full bar of drive to do them. I think it really shows the potential of characters when they don't have HD mode as a crutch.

The execution has NOTHING to do with the fact a combo will start from a low light rather than an heavy. In fact lows starts slower than stand heavy moves (4 fromes instead of 3), so it's theorically easier to start a combo from a heavy move than a low.

But you can't hit confirm your combo when starting from a single hit heavy (without command moves), or mix up from a low, some combo can't be done from lows but only from heavy, so you should give combos which are really practical, and so starting from the most common opening (Seriously I NEVER land a combo from s.C/s.D except in punishment or a cross up setup).

Moreover using damages from a jump is irrelevant since you can also use the combo from a s.C in punish and you won't knows the damages it will do, same thing if you use a jump which doesn't do 72 Dmg.

Finally it's not enough for the combo to just use few gauge to be called practical, it's necessary, but not enough.
It must be easy to confirm, can be stop at least in a near safe move in guard, even in case of break AB or CD, do not be character specific, do not rely or 1 frame or really hard timing, follow into a good knockdown if possible, and at least do not consume loads of gauge for the damages done.

Well I can add some very damaging combo from the char i'm playing but since some are not practical at all i don't think it worth it. But if it's the trip of the thread why not :

I would just like to say that every single Hwa combo that I've posted in this or the previous thread (aside from the death stun combo) is one that I have used in actual matches before, so they are not exactly impractical.

If you want a light starter combo, I'll throw in another low light starter combo.

Hwa (drunk):

1 drive, 2 meter (builds 1 back) cr.B, cr.B, s.B, d/f+B, dp+D, [DC] qcb+D, qcb+D, qcb+B, qcb+B, qcb+B, qcf+A, qcfx2+BD - 706 damage, starts low, also super easy to confirm, corner only.

easy mode combo:

2 meter (drink+grab) cr.B, cr.B, s.B, d/f+B, qcf,hcb+A - 409 damage, easy confirm, works anywhere, oki setup.

Another practical non-jump-in setup:

off an invulnerable shoryu, drunk, as usual

1 drive, 2 meter (builds 1 back): dp+D, [DC] qcb+D, qcb+B, qcb+B, qcb+B, qcf+A, qcfx2+BD - 735 damage, corner only

1 drive, 2 meter (builds 1 back): dp+D, [DC] qcb+B, qcb+B, qcb+B, qcb+B, qcf+A, qcfx2+BD - 645 damage, works anywhere.

I know, I know, sorry I've kinda been overloading this thread with Hwa stuff... he's just got so many tools and he's simply FUN to combo with.

Here's some Claw Iori stuff to balance it out a little bit more, I guess?

0 drive, 2 meter: j.C, c.C, d/f+C. qcb+AC, qcb+A, qcb+A, qcf,hcb+A/C - 558 damage, or can use EXDM for an extra 1 meter cost and 629 total damage. Corner only.

0 drive, 1 meter: c.B, f+A,A, qcb+C, qcf,hcb+A/C - 341 damage, starts from a low, or can use EXDM for an extra 1 meter and 431 total damage. Works anywhere.

1 drive, 2 meter: j.C, c.C, f+A, qcb+B, [DC] hcf+A/C, dp+C, qcf,hcb+AC - 569 damage, works anywhere.

0 drive, 2 meter: j.C, c.C, d/f+C, qcb+BD, qcf,hcb+A/C - 491 damage, works anywhere, can use EXDM instead for 1 extra meter and 581 total damage.

1 drive, 1 meter: j.C, c.C, d/f+C, qcb+B, [DC] qcb+C, qcf,hcb+A/C - 482 damage, works anywhere, can use EXDM instead for 1 extra meter and 571 total damage.

0 drive, 2 meter: j.C, c.C, d/f+C. qcb+BD, qcb+A, qcf,hcb+A/C - 525 damage, corner only, can use EXDM instead for 1 extra meter and 608 total damage.

I love Claw, gets so much without any drive.
