Samurai Shodown VI/Items
Before the match, there is an option to toggle items on or off. If enabled, as the match progresses Hikyaku will occasionally run past to throw a random item onto the stage. Additionally, a random item may be spawned via EX Mina's 63214A. Hikyaku himself will either run left or right across the background and will throw the item either where you were when he appeared, where the opponent was or right in between those two points. An item will normally stay on the screen for five seconds before it begins to fade, in which the player will have two thirds of a second to interact with it before it fully disappears. If an item attack deals damage then it will also use up a suitable amount of Weapon Gauge. An item's classification depends on Chample's interaction with the item during EX Mina's 63214B, throwing attack items at the opponent while bringing support items to her. Furthermore, attack items can be destroyed by fireballs or deflected by using 236E or a fireball-reflecting move while active, while support items can only be interacted with in any context by using A+D.
Picking up an item counts as a special move, meaning it can be cancelled into. Not only does item pickup's fast startup lend itself to combos, but attack items generally give you frame advantage or juggle opportunities which let you continue combos either way. Only the rock will not lead to combos of any sort.
